there were a couple of federal agents out front of the hotel and they had a shots fired situation and to go back into the hotel. >> residents battle during a federal raid that left several federal agents injured. i'mri campbell. we are learning more about what left three federal agents hurt.

tara moriarty is live. >> reporter: up to 200 federal agents raided at least a dozen homes throughout the bay area as part of a gang sweep and one of them is the blue house that you see behind me. as soon as federal agents arrived on the scene, something went horribly wrong. just after 4:00 this morning, federal agents with guns drawn swooped in with a search warrant. >> and then i hear fireworks. i thought it was fireworks. and someone was walking in and said, that's gunshots. >> reporter: homeland security knew this was high risk so s.w.a.t. teams were in place. this mornings i heard a couple of loud banks followed by gunfire. >> reporter: they broke in through garage doors and windows.

three federal agents were shot, all expected to survive. >> it never happens in petaluma. this has been a crazy day. >> reporter: bob runs the best western inn behind the hematomas. >> we called all the rooms and told them to stay in. >> reporter: the raid zeroed in on gang members linked to a 2010 triple homicide in south san francisco. we were there in the alley way when three young gang members were gunned down in a drive-by shooting as they walked on 8th and linden street. some of this morning's suspects took part in that drive-by or obstructed just tissments a year-long investigation turned up guns and drugs but no word on what, if any, items were seized from this house. we know that one person was taken into custody and police are bracing for a gang backlash on the heels of this raid.

that means patrols and high vigilance. police police will have a news conference this afternoon at 3:00. >> thank you, tara. there was not the only incident involving a federal agents. a 40-year-old immigration and customs enforcement agent has been shot and killed in los angeles county. this video taken of the agent's home is in carson, about 20 miles south of it downtown l.a. authorities have arrested his 14-year-old son in connection with the attack. they say that the agent was shot in the head. the bullet was fired through a window from the backyard of the house. there is no word yet on a motive. coming up, the story on this video on a policebeating that is causing controversy. now a second video showed up that may explain why this happened we have developing news and

new video out of contra costa county. firefighters are mopping up from a three-alarm fire that seriously damaged an apartment complex late this morning. the complex is located on center avenue. the fire gutted several units and the roof. you can see some firefighters there standing on the roof. right now, we don't have any information on possible injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. a pretrial hearing was postponed this morning for a man akiewsdz of killing five people near a san francisco city college in march. 35-year-old bin thai luc has pleaded not guilty. his lawyers say that they need more time to collect the evidence against him. after receiving the case yesterday, the jury in the murder trial of edwin ramos is

deliberating. ramos is charged with the murder of a father and son. ramos mistook them for rival gang members. the defense says that someone else fired the shots. san francisco police say there were plenty of out-of- towners arrested during a raid in an occupied church building. it's a story we reported live yesterday as it happened. police riot gear arrested more than two dozen occupy movement squatters who had taken over the building which is owned by the catholic church. investigators say that 11 of the 26 people arrested do not live in san francisco. and it was much the same story during the violent may day protest in oakland. police arrested a total of 39 people during monday's rallies, marches and demonstrations. only 12 were from oakland, three were from out of state.

wasn't thoroughly cleaned until just this past monday. >> i do believe there are some questions as to why we didn't clean the area more thoroughly initially but, at this point, there have been two substantial cleanings. >> reporter: the district says there will be daily cleanings like the ones we saw this morning. parent joseph henderson says that bad things happen but it's the response that makes the difference. >> i'm upset about it. i feel like that's something that they should have told every parent the day that it happened. >> reporter: the investigation into the incident is expected to take several days. the youngster will remain on medication until doctors are sure that the sing was not infected with hiv or hepatitis. we have new information about a researcher who diet after becoming infected with a bacteria he was studying in a

san francisco lab. late this morning, authorities identified the 25-year-old lab worker as richard din. din worked at the veteran administrations hospital at land's end. he was part of a team developing a vaccine for meningococcus bacteria which causes a deadly bloodstream infection or meningitis. hours after leaving work last free day, he reportedly started experiencing a headache and chills. the chief of infectious disease says that the diseased caused him to develop a rash. friends brought him to the hospital's emergency room on saturday but it was too late. >> from the onset of the symptoms until when he passed away, it was only about 18 hours. >> reporter: hospital officials gave antibiotics to five members of the research team and dozens of hospital workers who treated him. his girlfriend and five roommates who live with him on treasure island also were treated. the centers for disease control are investigating. there is good news about a

reports of any injuries. at least two people suffered serious injuries in a head on collision in east contra costa county this morning. it happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. and fellows avenue in brentwood. the highway patrol shut down the street for two hours to allow first responders. the chp says that all of the victims are expected to survive. football fans in san diego county and around the nation are still in shock today, one day after the apparent suicide of former charger star junior seau. people have been leaving flowers and other items outside of his home in ocean side north of san diego. seau's girlfriend found him there yesterday, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest, apparently self-inflicted. >> sad for the family. sad for my city. sad for any charger fan. saturdays sad for the kids

>> it's just sad. >> reporter: an autopsy is scheduled for today. no word on funeral services. the fremont police department announced the death of one of their own. 30-year-old tom fazio died of cancer. department officials praised him for his courage throughout his illness, calling him an inspiration. he is survived by his wife and nine-year-old son. once again, a videotape police beating has ignited a controversy. >> get on the ground. get down. >> one tape shows officers using batons to repeatedly beaten an armed suspect. critics say that the police officers used excessive force on a man accused of being drunk in public. however a second video taken just moments earlier may help explain the officers' action. this tape from a store owner

shows the suspect apparently tried to grab an officer's gun during scuffle. the 38-year-old parolee was treated and released. he is in jail. stockton police and d.a. promise to closely review both tapes in this investigation. san francisco's bill graham civic auditorium is taking a very unusual and noisy approach to keep homeless people from camping out on its home steps. [ construction noise ] >> the operators of the auditorium are using recording sounds of jack hammers along with chainsaws and motorcycles to drive people away. the recordings run continually from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 am. the operators say that the recordings have been shown to be very successful keeping people away.

you can see closing it on fairfield, concord, measuring some rainfall and also out toward pinole will shift the wind out to the south. not a lot of coverage around san francisco but some activity along the bay bridge. there is the live doppler sweep. activity to the north and west. as far as the south bay, partly cloudy skies in san jose with the bulk of the activity up to the north. as far as current temperatures, another -- in fact, with this system moving in, we have been cooling off. right now, most areas in the upper 50s to lower 60s. san jose, 22. napa, right around 67 degrees. most of the action up in the north bay for lima, santa rosa, mill valley. san francisco already measurable, already at point 01. forecast headline for the day, some showers. cool and breezy for tomorrow and then a completely different

story just in time for the weekend. here is the weather system we have been track over the past three to five days. this has been the source of the showers. for parts of the bay area and the cooling trend will continue. so best chance of activity will be for the northern half of the region but, ski, a chance elsewhere and temperatures this afternoon only maxing out in the upper 50s to the upper 60s. you can see the shower activity gradually sliding to the south as we head into the afternoon hours by 4:00 and 5:00. still a chance at 7:00 tonight. then decreasing clouds for friday. tomorrow still on the cool side but this will set the stage for a big change for the upcoming weekend. you will see that coming up in the five-day forecast. temperatures this afternoon, as i mentioned, on the cooler side. upper 40s to the upper 60s, keep the umbrellas nearby especially for redwood city, fremont, areas to the north. here ace look at the five-day forecast with the weekend

and the oakland community says that the chairman of the clorox wants to help keep the team in oakland f they can't, they have identified a new ownership group to keep them here. a new engineering group is behind the latest viral video. the automation, a dorm room complete with a party mode feature. freshman derek lowe has dubbed the system brad which stands for berkeley ridiculously automated dorm. he can control the lights, window shades and party music with his voice, motion detector or a remote. he has a hearing tomorrow. officials are seeing if he did any illegal wiring. if he d the school will require him to change it back.

a bomb scare shut down a residence over the berkeley hills. police blocked off several streets around 9:00 last night it happened after a woman reported being threatened with a bomb. she told police she heard ticking coming from her car which is parked near leroy and leconte avenue. berkeley bomb squad sent in a robot but no explosive devices were found. the scene was clear around 3:00 a.m. and police reopened nearby euclid avenue, ridge road and laloma avenue. a new record for the sale of a piece of artwork. the story involves a scream. and there is no reason to be alarmed. yes, this alarm was trying eat a baby. more just ahead.
