left when young men gestured letting us know it was time to go. san francisco police created a task force targeting gang violence. >> since i've had that unit the incidents has died down. >> it hasn't gone away and probably never will. >> reporter: and the suspects now in federal custody are scheduled to make their initial appearance in court tomorrow morning. we continue our coverage of this story on our website. log on to ktvu.com. a 40-year-old immigration and customs enforcement agent has been shot and killed in los angeles. the agent was killed yesterday in his home in carson. sheriff's deputies arrested his 14-year-old son in connection with the killing. the investigators say the agent was shot in the head.

a pretrial hearing was put off this morning for a man accused of murdering 5 people on march 23rd. 35-year-old ben tie has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. his lawyers say they need more time to examine the evidence prosecutors have collected against luke. the jury has wrapped up its first full day in the murder trial of he had monday ramos. he is accused of shooting and killing a man and his two sons in the excelsior district. prosecutors say he mistook them for rival gang members but say ramos was in the car and was

use the training and -- so change appears to be coming. ktvu. some low income tenants in san francisco today celebrated their success in saving their property from foreclosure. 15 people gathered on the steps of city hall today. they were renting a house that went into foreclosure and it was scheduled for public auction. but the land trust stepped in, provided a new loan and helped the tenants form a house cooperative. >> this is a most stable, most beautiful address i've had outside of my own hometown and it's a home that will continue to be a home i hope for people like us. >> i am astounded and ecstatic that i can continue living in this house and know this house will be there for years to come. >> reporter: the community also is providing technical help and advice as the tenants take on the responsibility of home ownership. scientists are using a

this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. need the public's help to find a killer of a teenager. the attack was fast and severe. and the boy ended up in a coma before he died earlier this week. robert honda is here and tells us what a classmate of the victim tells us what happened and what police are doing to try and find some answers. robert. >> reporter: at this hour investigators are still trying to find out exactly what happened here in this area of roosevelt park that led to the teenagers' death and sadness in his community. police kept quiet about the possible gang related attack here at roosevelt park for several days. officials say they were hoping leads might lead to arrests. 14-year-old was attacked by a group of people last friday

evening while at the park with his father. he died at the hospital monday. a classmate told ktvu say he was attacked after being asked if he was a gang banger and he said no. one of the guys just punched him. he got knocked out in one second. >> reporter: say the victim's father was at the park but did not know his son was hurt until the attackers fled. >> someone that they recognized or they believed they recognized this person from an opposing gang or a simple incident where they are initiationing or feel like this person is on their turf. >> reporter: a classmate who asked not to be shown said students are still stunned. >> his friends were getting real emotional and he started to cry. some just went home really fast. they were sad. >> reporter: other parents say they aren't sure what to say to their children exempt be careful. >> the bullying being real bad

this happened on simpson's soul food restaurant. witnesses say they saw the driver and several passengers run from the scene. at last check police did not have any suspects in custody. the university of california has announced plans to open a new service center to handle payroll and other administrative duties for all of its campuses. by october 2014 all ten campuses and 5 medical centers will shift to that one center. uc says that will save as much as $1 million every year. there will be some jobs lost at the other campuses and you see officials are encouraging others there to apply for the new jobs in river side. as many as 600 people will work at that new center. rallied outside san francisco today. workers held an information al

today about their life expectancy. say people who jog regularly can expect to live longer than those who don't. their study found regular jogging increased the life expectancy of men by 6.2 years and women by 5 years. notes joggers need to run about 1 to 2 hours a week to increase their life span. this is a normal brain but a brain after football type injuries may look like this. how doctors can use this. we have some showers that are tapering down. i'll let you know how warm it will get.

a florida judge today refused to grant bail to one of 13 suspects in the mazing death of -- hazing death of robert champion. already on probation for an earlier conviction. he was pummeled last november. jackson and 10 others have been charged with hazing to death. it's a felony. 2 others have been charged with misdemeanor battery. the family is calling for them to disband the marching bands which has a history of hazing incidents. said that the former linebacker wanted to donate his brain to science just like other nfl players before him who had to deal with depression. john, here to explain their

mortgage rates have once again hit fresh record lows. mortgage finance company freddie mac said today that the average rate on a 30 year loan fell to 3.8%. that's the lowest it's been since the 1950s when long term mortgages began. little dropped to a record 3.7%. say home sales have slumped and remain well below healthy levels. youtube is promoting its original channels and promising
