described the crimes he committed and pled guilty. theft of the drug, running a massage parlor-prostitution ring, robbery and extortion. >> the crochendo came in selling drugs that had been in evidence. >> reporter: louis lombardi left after learning he would spend three years behind bars while on the task force. >> on his behalf i guess i would have to say there is no explanation. and that what he did was wrong and that he's prepared to pay the price for those wrong decisions. >> the remaining question mark is norman wells. so far he's indicated he won't take a plea deal despite butler and lombardi being ready to testify against him. >> as far as the drugs are concerned which is the core of this case it was mr. welsh who had access to that, mr. butler didn't. >> reporter: butler's sentencing is set for

september. live in oakland, i'm john sasaki, ktvu news. at this hour in san jose, police are deploying additional officers downtown for the start of the cinco de mayo celebrations. robert handa live in san somewhere -- san jose for the special cause for concern. >> reporter: those police efforts have just started in downtown san jose. as you can see from these posted signs they began restricting traffic just a cup -- just a couple of minutes ago, that means more patrol cars will hit the streets and the enforcement will last through the end of the weekend. extra security are out tonight as people are showing up for cinco de mayo and the release of the q. >> we're really excited about it. >> people who remember the rioting last year say they aren't as excited. this melee took place late at night after celebrations ended.

others said they're also worried about recent gang violence. >> my family won't be present, neither will i here just because of how much gang activity and stuff like that is happening down here. >> reporter: city leaders say that's a big reason why more officers will be patrolling. >> any time you have a community event coming up on the hills of increased activity among rival sets, yeah it may spill over into these events but we're well prepared. >> we will have deputies out there and we will have some gang detectives out there that are going to be working with probation and parol and a couple other agencies, mountain view and sunny vale will be sending detectives. >> reporter: today workers are preparing for the event. >> are you disappointed that people have to be concerned about coming down? >> yeah it should be a tradition, it should not be a violence thing. >> reporter: live in san jose,

robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. investigators in santa clara county were back out searching two reservoirs today in connection with the case of missing teenager sierra la mar. investigators are also doing follow up interviews based on lab results found in a bag belonging to lamar. so far police have not identified any persons of interest. the santa clara county sheriff's office has released the napes of three sex offenders who were arrested during the search for sierra lamar. they are 35-year-old james fincher, 44 ryan zamora and 50- year-old robert nelson. they were arrested for failing to register. all three are transients. the family of a 6-year-old girl fatally struck by a car in an east palo alto crosswalk is suing the city and the driver.

the attorney for siereli samor says the city did nothing to improve a dangerous intersection. the driver, a teacher was negligent -- they also claim the driver, a teacher was negligent. she was a second grader at the near by green oaks academy. a gray whale that was tangled in fishing lines is now free thanks to a determined crabbing boat captain and his crew. the whale was first spotted off the coast of southern california. for several days the coast guard followed it trying to break it free from a net. the distressed whale they found it in bodega bay and finally were able to free it.

today remained shut down. more than 30 stores and rest raápbts were -- restaurants were damaged. >> my impression was that they felt they were losing their playground. you know the mission was their place where they felt comfortable and now that they're being displaced by other more affluent people they're angry about it. >> reporter: they prepared for a street festival. >> we make everything in san francisco, been in business for 30 years and very surprised that we were one of the targets. >> i think if we can do more of community policing, i think we can see less of these types of events. >> city officials say they are taking a new look at law enforcement tactics after criticism of how police handled monday night's vandalism. >> we support the ability for people to demonstrate but we are not going to tolerate tearing down property. >> we're going to take a look at what we can do. >> the costs of monday's

vandalism have yet to be totals. a fund for victims is steadily growing. >> over 150 people have donated to this fund. they've raised over $7,200. they're hoping to raise $10,000 by the end of this week. >> mission district merchants will meet here at valencia with the mayor's aide about vandalism and the funds available for victims. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. as david mentioned, san francisco is kicking off its sunday streets series this weekend in the mission. the street fairs are held on the first sunday of each month through october. this year the city will try out a two mile route in the mission district along valencia street between deboise avenue and 24th street between valencia and hamsure street. other neighborhoods will be hosting sunday streets events. such as the bay view district

in july, the western addition in september. eastern addition in october. the group met at the steps of the capital then marched to the white house. there was also a counter protest where demonstrators claim marijuana is a gate way drug. a new warning for facebook users tonight about privacy concerns. consumer report says much of the information posted by facebook users is mined by employers, insurers, the irs as well as identify thieves and other criminals. 4.7million users like the page about health conditions which could be used by an insurer. 4.8 had used facebook to say when they were planning to go away a tip possibly for burglars. and 20 million include their birthday which can be used by identity thieves. santa clara county residents are being reminded

about the new area code coming. residents in the 408 area code should start dialing one plus the area code plus the telephone number for every call they make. they say it's the best way to prepare for the new 669 area code coming on october 20th. after that, dialing one plus the area code will become mandatory. city and transportation officials today celebrated the work on doyle drive. mayor lee was joined by council officials. doyle drive was shut down last weekend so they could demolish the seismically unsafe roadway. >> now we have the beauty of tearing down a dangerous drive and making sure we do it right. and well guess what, the p recidio parkway is going to be

gore is going to be speaking in the area. tickets range from 4,000 to $5,000. president obama is expected to attend three fun raisers. the first is a round table. then he will attend a private dinner at a home. the third is an appearance at the fox theater. first it was pink slime, now there's an investigation into a so called meat glue. a southern california state senator today called for more transparency. the process in question involves creating a steak from pieces of beef that will normally be discarded but are instead bound together. >> the stake you're about to have is glued together from 25

different parts. >> the process of being pieced together has been used and is completely safe. 16-year-old gene grisby was killed in january of last year in front of his richmond home. a jury found 17-year-old tyler franklin guilty in the home's death. franklin was retaliating in that neighborhood after his younger brother was beaten there earlier in the day. he was tried as an adult and faces 50 years to life in prison. franklin's sentencing is set for may 25th. a 13-year-old girl is playing a key role in a new tribute to a soldier she every even met. mike mibach was at the ground breaking and tell us what needs to happen next for this project to be completed. >> on a dry grassy field in fairfield, a story is

unfolding. a story of sacrifice there is sergeant first class isaac lawson killed in iraq june 2006. >> i will always cherish my memories of him. great soldier. >> i hope everyone remembers every fallen soldier. >> reporter: then there's the story of emma cuvion who's sacrificed the last year of her life raiding donations for a soldier she never met. >> it's about all the fallen soldier, i'm going to be coming here and thinking, this is in memory of them too. >> reporter: this park not only dedicated to sergeant lawson and other soldiers killed but for those in the community who just want to come and reflect. >> and it'll provide a memorial for the people that still serve. that can be reminded of the people that have come before

them and have paid that price. >> reporter: a solano county 4h raised enough money but now it's in need of donated construction supplies to make the vision become a reality. >> emma has risen you know head and shoulders above everybody elses effort. i don't know if she sleeps. >> reporter: and she says she won't until this park opens to honor the man she never met. in fairfield, mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. an investigation of a prosecutor is widening. the fbi raided the headquarters of cino homes. one employee has already been indicted. the company is accused of taking part in a building bail out which involves inflating the value of homes. the much anticipated jobs report released today showing the hiring slowed last month but that the over all unemployment rate actually fell slightly.

employers added 115,000 jobs in april. that is less than the 165,000 that was expected. the unemployment rate though fell from 8.2 to 8.1. analysts say that's not due to the job growth, instead they say it's a result of more people deciding they are going to give up looking for a job. that disappointing jobs report prompted a major stocks sell out capping the worse week in wall street. the dow dropped 168 points, the nasdaq was off almost 68 points. things are starting to heat up. chief meteorologist bill martin is in the weather center where we're going to get a warmer weekend. >> warmed up today but tomorrow a 10-degree jump and bigger yet as we head to sunday. we have a live report, winds gusting to 26-miles-an-hour at redwood falls. the winds are going to start to change around. and come out of the north-

northeast as we head into the weekend that's sort of an offshore flow. fog is not an issue this week. both days are going to be nice. saturday starts off warming, sunday the warmest day of the weekend with the warmest city, fremont, san jose. these are the highs from today, here go the highs tomorrow. temperatures coming up 10 degrees in santa rosa. a little more than 10 degrees in san francisco and san jose. definitely warmer tomorrow. you will notice it right away. when you start off tomorrow morning overnight lows around the cool side. low 40s and down to 40. this will get you frost in some of the inland north bay valleys. it's a little late for frost but you will see it tomorrow. the weekend sunny and warmer you knew that. as we go through the week week -- weekend the high pressure intensifies. yesterday they were the coolest and today they're coming up. warmer still. as we go into next week, monday

our first pictures now of the breaking news we told you about at the top of the newscast. this is going on on pinol. it all started with police following a stolen car. the police pulled into the parking lot. that is the car in question in the center. according to the chp the person got out and opened fire. the chp returned fire hitting the suspect. we're still working to get information on the extent of the injuries. as we get more information we will bring it to you on bay area news at 7:00 on tv 36. also coming up on the 10:00 news. >> mark is here now. coach harbaugh, when he speaks
