good morning, everyone welcome to mornings on 2 it's sunday may 6th i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. let's check in with rosemary orozco for a look at your forecast. >> our numbers this morning up several degrees from yesterday and the warming trend continues for your afternoon. we are expecting anywhere from 3-6 degrees warmer than what we felt on saturday. i'll have a detailed look and talk about the breezy conditions that continue in the hills. oakland police officer has been shot and now at the hospital recovering. it happened around midnight in the area of birch street an 92nd avenue. kara. >> reporter: first off we are being told the officers injuries are not life threatening. . the officer was taken here to

the hospital earlier this morning. he arye here shortly after one. he did not comment on the shooting. what we have learned he was chasing the suspect. the officer returned fire hitting the suspect. both were rushed to the hospital. police say the officers condition is stable. we believe the suspects records were recovered at the scene. we'll let you know when we get more information.

>> this year -- just a few arrests were made last night and there were no major incidents. this year they stepped up patrol. one restaurant owner said he appreciated all of the extra security. >> we had a lot of people. a lot of security. >> police say their main goal was to stop any problems before they started. in addition to san jose police probation officers members of the antigang university were out to make sure things stay peaceful. police were also out in several cities to making sure cinco de mayo drivers were peaceful. officers were looking for anyone driving under the influence or driving without a license. >> i think it's easy to maybe play into a lot of the advertisements and hype of different holidays throughout the year. but if you are acting

threatening injuries after a shooting in san jose. that happened just after 8:00 last night just off cadillac drive. officers found one man suffering from at least one gunshot wind. morgan hill winery has hosted a fun raise to find sierra lamar. proceeds from last nights event will go toward the sierra lamar fund. she disappeared while on her way to school. uc berkeley has run out of patience with protestors occupying a land in oakley. that ten acre property is used for agricultural research but protestors claim the university plans to convert that land to

early morning gunfight on an oakland street. one police officer is shot and the suspects also gets hit. i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. we have been monitoring this situation since it happened.

>> the officer was brought here early this morning. the officer was chasing a suspect because he had witnessed an on view crime in progress near 92nd and birch. during the chase the suspect hit the officer. the officer returned fire hitting the suspect. both were rushed to the hospital. the officers condition is stable we are still working to confirm the suspects condition. we have also been told police believe the suspects weapon was recovered at the scene. police chief howard jordan aryed at highland hospital shortly after wanting to visit with his injured officer. he is not commenting on the shoot examining we are -- on

the shooting. we are still waiting to get more information. officers killed in the line of duty will be held tonight. da poo was shot and killed by a bank robbery suspect back in november. ten california law enforcements were killed last year. the sis went was in front of a home around 2:30 yesterday afternoon when he was shot and killed. earlier reports indicate it was a drive by shooting. police have not identified the victim but say he was in his mid 20s. officers have not released any information about a suspect. east palo alto police have collected 2700 guns. they dropped off their firearms and police paid $100 for each gun turned in.

peru's government has declared a health alert and urging people to stay away from long stretches of beach. that is because at least 1200 birds mostly pelicans have washed up dead in recent weeks. an estimated 800 dolphins died in that same area in recent months. there was a mass die off of pelicans in 1997. brittic woman who was mauled by cheetahs says she is on the mend. she was posing with those captive cheetahs at a game reserve last weekend. look at this photo taken by her husband. taken as the big cats moved toward her she was trying to step in to help a child and suffered bites to her head, scalp, stomach, and leg. she thinks the cats were being playful not vicious. there will be special bridge tours starting tuesday through the end of october.

negotiations stalled and uc officials are asking the group to voluntarily leave. the occupiers have been planting vegetables and hope the land will be preserved for sustainable agricultural. the city of oakland has until tomorrow to submit a plan to investigate alleged police abuses during last years occupy protest. more than 1,000 misconduct complaints have been made against officers. a swat officer allegedly fired a bean bag round that critically injured former marine rom sop. the city agreed to complete internal affairs investigations within six months. oakland plans to hire outside contractor to look into occupy complaints. a morgan hill winery hosted a fundraiser this weekend to help find missing teenager sierra lamar. they organized the fundraiser at the winery. proceeds from last nights events will go to the search fund. the 15-year-old morgan hill girl has not been seen since

we are learning more this morning about the arrest maturing san jose cinco de mayo celebrations. officers said they made 30 arrests. they issued 76 citations and 12 minors were taken into custody for curfew violations. despite the arrest police tell us there were no major incidents overnight. peru's government has declared a health alert and urging people to stay away from
