with new information about the victim. tara. >> reporter: we have just learned the woman was 25 years old and parked here across the street from the trader joe's she had just returned her groceries to her car and getting her shopping cart back to the store when a toyota tundra hit her coming down me son -- masonic here. the accident happened around 5:30. a man driving a toyota tundra came up masonic and didn't see the woman. the woman died from her injuries at sf general later. people who live in this neighborhood say it's a treacherous stretch of roadway. >> i think they should slow things town. maybe have better signs for pedestrians. there are a lot of people that walk across the street and these drivers don't see them over the other side of the hill. >> reporter: now folks around here say as we drive uphill on

masonic the trader joe's is right when the hill goes down. it could be difficult to see. a masonic is a four lane roadway and the grocery store is right between euclid and greery an extremely dangerous intersection. the woman was not in the crosswalk and there are a lot of crosswalks nearby but most people shopping don't use them. we'll tell you why coming up. i'm tara moriarty. we are also following overnight news from oakland. police are looking for two gunman that shot and injured a man outside his own home. that started around midnight. the man was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt. no word on the victims condition. gunfire could be tied to a home invasion robbery. oakland police are also investigating the shooting of a teenager. the victim was found on 75th

avenue and mccarthur boulevard around 2:20 this morning. he was shot somewhere else though and made his way to that intersection. he was alert when police arrived but they say he is not cooperating. there is still plenty of unanswered questions surrounding a fatal police shooting in east oakland. one suspect was killed and a police officer was shot early yesterday morning. the suspect threatened the officer with a gun but it's not clear if the sus% fired on -- suspect fired on the officer or if the officer shot himself. neighbors say late night gunfire is becoming more frequent. >> a lot of times the neighborhood is nice no problem. but it seems like on late night there is a problem. >> the name of the man kill has not been released. the police officer was treated at the hospital and released. this morning one person is

in custody and the search is on for more than one suspect. at 8:30 last night wanted in connection with a weapons charge. the driver sped off but moments later the car was found empty in the area of ash glen and ridge glen ways. an officer later saw the suspect, fired shots. the suspect was not hurt but taken into custody. police officers believe there are other suspects. muni service is now back to normal that is after a man was pinned underneath a train at the civic center station. that situation began at 11:15 last night. police say this was an attempted . this morning a vallejo police officer killed in the line of duty will be among nose honored at the state capitol. officer james capoot was killed by a bank robbery suspect. he was a 19 year veteran and

married father of three daughters. governor brown will be among those attenning that ceremony. meantime several bay area police officers are taking part in a national event honoring james capoot and 160 other fallen police officers. overnight they took a red eye flight from oakland to new york city. the officers will join others from across the country in a marathon bike ride to raise money for the national law enforcement memorial. three vallejo police officers still grieving the loss of officer capoot will be among the riders. >> i sit behind his chair in lineup. i see his name every day. we have not forgotten him. we have not forgotten his family. we think about him all the time. >> the bay area police officers traveled light during their cross country trip. fedex shipped their bikes and all their bike gear ahead of

them free of charge. 4:35. in san francisco dozens of people are in temporary housing after a fire burned their apartments. it started just before 10:00 yesterday morning at duboce and valencia streets. five firefighters are hurt but they are expected to be okay. one person was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. >> the first chief got on scene. the flames were shooting 20 feet above the roof. >> from the time i ran out the flames were coming out of every window. it was like ten minutes. >> the red cross says 37 people are displaced by that fire including seven children. the cause of the fire is still being investigated. elderly woman and her son are safe but that is after being rescued by neighbors from a burning house in alamo. that fire started just before

6:00 last night at a home on viaspero. randy and his son saw the fire and went to rescue their neighbors. jumped over the fence and went through the back door. they say their 96-year-old neighbor was inside the kitchen calling 911 didn't realize how bad the fire was. >> we got her outside and jumped the fence and handed them over to him. >> the woman's son was also rescued from the home. the fire started from fireplace embers that were thrown into a trash bin. fortunately no one was hurt. san jose fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a three alarm fire that left several people homeless there. that fire started at 2:00 yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on shadow dance drive in the alma neighborhood. firefighters say yesterday's heat made it more difficult to

contain that fire. one firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. it is almost wild fire season here in california. coming up in 15 minutes why there is an increased threat this year. right now it's 4:37. protestors that are occupying land owned by uc berkeley say they want to meet with university officials today. on friday the school issued a letter to occupy the farm protestors. it offered to discuss sharing the land but only if the group agrees to leave volunteerly. uc spokesman says researchers need access to the land by mid may. occupy the farm took over the gill track located at marin and san pablo avenues. they want the land to be used for urban farming. today is the deadline for the city of oakland to submit a plan for completing police internal affairs investigations stemming from last years occupy protest. a judge issued the order last

welcome wac to the county -- welcome back to the ktvu challenge 2 morning news. an awe top is scheduled today for a man rafting in the river. they have identified the man as 59-year-old stan decker. he was on a guided rafting trip on saturday in plaster county where he and several others were thrown from their boat.

decker helped three people get back in the boat and he fell backwards and the current overcame him. a pilot who had never landed on water before had a lot of help when he landed on san francisco bay yesterday. the plane touched down south of the dumbarton bridge just before 2:00 p.m. yesterday. the pilot said the plane is equipped with landing gear. he planned to land at the palo alto airport but changed his mind after having a problem with the landing gear. al low al toe and -- palo alto and menlo park crews were on stand by. it is wild fire awareness week. that means homeowners are being reminded to prepare for wild fire season. cal fire says fire season could come early this year because we had a very dry winter. the dry vegetation could become a problem in the summer heat. homeowners should clear 100 feet around their homes and have an evacuation plan. tomorrow fire officials will
