a life sentence for kidnapping the owner of a car during a test-drive. last month, jerry jenkins responded -- responded to a craigslist ad. during the test drive he pulled a fake gun. he forced the man to meet them with the pink slip. she sensed something was wrong and sent the police instead. jenkins is to appear before a preliminary hearing today. a judge set today as the deadline after a federal monitor released a report that's critical of the police handling of the protests. in an agreement, it requires oakland to complete internal affairs investigations within 180 days. the city leaders have said the

it is 7:29. we're following overnight news from oakland. police are looking for two gunmen who shot and injured a man outside of his own home t happened shortly after midnight on holly street. investigators say the victim was shot during a violent robbery attempt. >> he was shot in the chest and transported to a local hospital. >> no word on the victim's condition. police say the gunfire could be tied to a home-invasion robbery. police are investigating the shooting of a tager. the victim was found on -- teenager. the victim was found around 12:0 this morning. investigators believe he was shot somewhere else. he was alert when he arrived but police say he's not cooperating.

get ready. tomorrow fire officials will talk about fire awareness week in oakland. an elderly woman and her son are safe after being rescued by neighbors. the fire started at 6:00 last night, randy harrell and her son saw the fire and went to rescue their neighbors. he jumped over the fence and went through the back door to get inside the burning home. they saw their 96-year-old neighbor inside the kitchen calling -- calling 911. we got her outside. >> the william's son was also rescued from the home. the fire apparently started from fireplace embers thrown into a trash bin. in one was hurt.
