connection with the case. santa clara county sheriff deputies are looking for a volkswagen jetta, similar to this one, but with a black hood. about 90 minutes ago, investigators told us witnesses and surveillance video has led them to believe this car connected to the case. >> near her mom's house and near some of the -- where some of the locations of the evidence was found. we're not gonna say exactly, specifically where the car was observed, what intersections and what streets but near those general areas. this car was observed an witnesses have corroborated that as well. >> investigators say evidence previously found, sufficient as used condoms and an empty handcuff box have been analyzed and are not associated with the case sierra lamar has been missing since mid-march. at sfo, pilots with united airlines are just wrapping up a leafletting campaign.

they were letting passengers know about safety. new at noon, christien kafton joins us live with what's behind the effort and how passengers reacted. >> reporter: this is the letter that the pilots were passing out to passengers. it read in part that 66% of united domestic flights are currently outsourced to regional carriers. >> we're asking them to go in and say, hey, if i'm gonna fly on united airlines and i want a professional pilot, i want to make sure i'm flying on a united airlines that's flown by united crews maybe i should go in and sign a petition online to saying that i want this to be the case. >> reporter: united has been in negotiations for two years, and that they have made major sacrifices following the 9/11 attack and the airlines have exploited those sacrifices. i talked to a spokesperson for united with a half-hour ago and she said the airline has a long-

pleasant hill triggered the evacuation of a high school in then mog. the high school is -- this morning. the high school is located south of 680. pg&e and the hazardous materials team responded but their instruments did not indicate anything unusual in the air. reports of the natural gas smell came in from a widespread area in alamo and walnut creek. >> the weather is very calm this morning, probably slight inversion that it would hold down the odor, so a small release could travel quite a distance. >> crews were unable to find the source of the smell so students were allowed back into class around 9:00 a.m. walnut creek police are investigating a home-invasion robbery. it happened around 12:20 this morning often countrywood court. police say two women walked up to the home and asked to use the phone. when the victim turned around -- around, the women ran inside the house along with two men who were hiding. police say everyone in the home was ordered at gunpoint to get

on the floor. no one was hurt. the thieves trashed the house. loaded stolen items into a car and took off. police are looking for two gunmen who shot and injured a man outside his own home. it happened shortly after midnight on holly street. investigators say the victim was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt. the man was taken to a hospital. there was no word on his condition. police say the gunfire could be tied to a home-invasion robbery. and oakland police are also investigating the shooting of a teenager, the victim was found on 75th avenue on mack car their boulevard around 12:20. investigators believe the victim made his way it that location after being shot somewhere else. he was alert when police arrived but police say he is not cooperating. a new study finds that crime in oakland is having a real impact on the city by causing thousands of residents to move out of the area. according to the study in the oakland "tribune" 5,000 people

a year leave oakland because of the violence. that's cheating -- creating, rather, a drag on the economy because it becomes harder for businesses to grow, attract businesses and raise the taxes necessary to run the city. some oakland residents we spoke to this morning had mixed opinions about leaving town. >> i just don't feel safe anymore. i feel like the violence and the crime rate goes up increasingly every single year. i don't like the loud noise at night. there's cars racing all of the time. >> i think it's a safe neighborhood to me. i didn't -- i really don't anything about anybody moving for that reason. >> the study estimates over the last several years, as many as 39,000 people have left the city as a direct result of the homicide rate. there are still unanswered questions after a fatal shooting after a fatal police shooting in oakland. a suspect was killed and a police officer was hurt near

92nd avenue and birch street early yesterday morning. investigators say the suspect threatened the officer with a gun but it's still not clear if the suspect fired on the officer or if the officer accidentally shot himself. the wounded police officer was treated for a leg wound and released from the hospital. authorities have not released the name of the man killed. the standoff is heating up over a parcel of uc owned land near the bay front in albany. occupy protesters have turned it into a small farm and are said to be making a decision today about whether they will stay or go. alex sash idge joins us live from albany -- savidge joins us live from albany with more. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. protesters have not yet made any plans to abandon their farm and tent city they have set up on this piece of university- owned property. but university officials are growing frustrated with this eb campment. uc berkeley represented it would not is talk about specific tactics but told me

this morning they may take more forceful action if demonstrators don't leave the site. a group of uc berkeley police officers dropped by the gill track this morning, greeting a warning letter to individual protesters. police told them they are trespassing on this university- owned property in albany. >> i think that they probably see it as maybe a low-level intimidation tactic but we have all a's good we are here to work an -- we are all agreed we are here to work and we stick to our work and it's. the a problem. >> reporter: on friday, university officials told protesters to agree to leave the land by saturday night. that deadline came and went with no response from demonstrators. >> we're very disappointed that we didn't get a responsive effort on saturday night as we hoped and expected. the door remains open. >> reporter: the uc spokesman told me student researchers need to start planting on this land later this month and this illegal encampment has to go.

>> they've occupied property that belongs to somebody else. >> reporter: still the spokesman says the university is open to the idea of sharing this site with protesters. but only if the tents come down first. demonstrators have been growing crops on this land for the past two weeks and despite the daily visits from police, they don't seem ready to pack things up. >> historically, you know, what's been right isn't always what's been the letter of the law. >> reporter: occupy the farm protesters tell me their attorney will be responding to the university at some point later on today. but the university is adamant. they say time is running short. they need this land back, they say, in the next week or so. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. today, the city of oakland must submit a plan for completing police internal affairs investigation stemming

from occupy protests or it will be hit with fines. a judge said today is the deadline after a federal monitor released a report criticizing the department's handling of the protests. an agreement reached after the we misconduct case -- 2003 misconduct case requires internal affairs investigations to be completed within 180 days. city leaders have said police don't have the manpower to do so and they are looking to contract out several investigates -- investigations. two key elections are creating more uncertainty over the european debt crisis. the parliament is split in greece -- as leaders try to form a government. the runner-up of the national election is rejecting a coalition with the rin winning conservative party and is demanding the cancellation of austerity measures. meanwhile, in france, the new present of president, is seen

as another rejection of austerity measures. and how did investors respond? initially there was a lot of selling today. thick have flattened out. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is down 15. the nasdaq is positive, up 6. s&p also up 2. a federal jury in san francisco has ruled in favor of oracle in its copyright lawsuit against google but it has reached an impasse on one declaim. the jury was deating -- key claim. the jury debating that google stole some of the technology belonging to or rae kell. the jury agreed google infringed on the largest of the

claims but it could not agree on whether google's use was legally protected fair use. google has argued it only used parts of oracle technology that have always been freely available. google is moving for a mistrial. there's a lot of cars that fly down here. parking here is really dangerous. after the death of a pedestrian in the last 24 hours, people are raising concerns about the safety of a street. rosemary will be up next to tell you if the warming trend will continue into the week. it costs more to hunt around for it than to just fill up. >> the bay area reacts to gas prices. the bay area is not following the downward trend like the rest of the country.

a rollover accident around 8:30 this morning blocked the intersec of kerney and california streets in san francisco's financial district. police say it might have involved someone running a red light. investigators say no one was seriously injured. a woman crossing a street in san francisco's mission district with two children was struck by a car and injured. the children were not hurt. the woman was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

right now, we don't know the extent of her injuries. the accident happened around 10:00 this morning on fulsom near 23rd street. the woman is a nanny carrying for the children. police believe the elderly man driving the car had a medical problem moments before the accident. he was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated. an suv hit and killed a 25- year-old woman in san francisco last night as she was returning a shopping cart to a grocery store across the street. it happened around 5:30 p.m. near trader joe's on masonic avenue. between euclid avenue and geary boulevard. police say a toyota tundra hit suzanne monoco as she crossed in the middle of the block. people in the neighborhood say it's a dangerous area for pedestrians. >> there are a lot of cars that fly down here and there is a lot of cars that go into trader joe's. ing here is really dangerous. >> the pedestrian died at general hospital. police say the driver stopped

and so far there's no indication he will be charged. an elderly woman and her son are safe after being rescued by neighbors from a burning house in alamo. the fire started just before 6:00 last night on via asparro. randy and his son jumped over a fence and went in the back door to get inside the burning home. their 96-year-old neighbor was still inside the kitchen calling 911. the woman's son was also rescued from the home. no one was hurt. investigators say fireplace embers thrown into a trash bin probably started the fire. voting for next month's california primary gee bins today. county election -- begins today. the june 5th ballots are being sent out. voters are mail them in or drop them off at specific location. the last date of request for a vote by mail ballot is november 9th. nearly half of the voters who cast ballots in the prior

election did so by mail. gas prices have been changing but how they change depends upon where you live. nationwide gasoline prices fell 7 cents in the last two weeks. the lund burg letter reports the national average price is now $3-point 85 for a gallon of regular. but here in the -- did .85 for a gallon of regular. but here in the bay area, prices have gone up because of repairs to the refineries. >> we fail the pain and the customer's, too, they also tell us. we feel the pain. >> it's tough out there. it's tough to do anything out there. i can't even go to -- plan my day and go to walnut creek because it cost me $20, $25. >> aaa reports the highest local prices are in san francisco where the average is $4.30 a gallon. it's 12 cents a gallon cheaper in vallejo and napa, the lowest bay area average. blind chinese activist cheng says he's confident that

74 sausalito, into the east bay we're looking at 78 for oakland, mid-80s danville. upper 80s for livermore. how about san jose, 85 expected for you. 83 santa clara, along the peninsula, a nice day, 80 for san mateo. 83 for redwood city. the extended forecast again by tomorrow and perhaps that sea breeze kicking in and bringing a slight cooldown to the coast, it's going to take a day or two before it finally trickles inward. once it does, wednesday looks to be the cooler day we're warming it up for the weekend. for the inland area and then 60s and os for the coast -- 70s for the coast. it's wildfire awareness. and homeowners are being reminded to prepare for wildfire season. calfire says fire season could come early this year because we had a dry winter. the dry vegetation could become a problem in the hummer -- summer heat.
