>> most would call it dig probley're going to diglk about your team. >> very lucky. >> part of the british services antarctic expedition roped together for an eight-week mission. his team was able to rescue rob, but he was down there for an hour and a half. >> ah! >> rob, the naval adventurer is joining us right this minute to talk to us about this extreme rescue. >> coming back from a mountain which is the highest mountain in the region. as we're traveling, i was leading the team, leading the rope, and we saw no problems at all, except a piece of terrain which we'd traveled across before and all of a sudden i just ended up in there and it was quite a sudden drop. >> what were you thinking as you can falling down? >> usually you stop at your waist. when it didn't stop i realized it could be a problem. >> how did you remain so calm and composed?

>> we've been training for it the last few years. >> what do you do right that made this not turn out to be life-ending for you? >> the guys on top. four of the team did everything right completely. the whole area is quite unstable, turns out, but they explored the area around the hole. made themselves safe and then set up a pulley system as well to lift my weight out. so they did everything right, really. >> i understand this whole thing was an eight-week mission, and this mishap happened on your final trek? is that kind of ironic? >> very. we've been chatting about that on the way back. very lucky up until that moment. very ironic. >> rob, thanks so much, man. we're glad that you're okay and think maybe your video should be shown to people who think they're having a bad day. >> yeah. >> feel free. this video, it's crazy to watch. >> it's the circle of life happening before your eyes.

>> this is in vance which is an alberta, canada, close calgary pup see the cameras moving around and you wonder what they're focusing in on and then you hear it. that is a baby elk. in the water, running away from that wolf that you see on the bank of the river. >> oh. >> is there not at bear down there, too? >> i saw a bear, too. >> oh, you're about to see more of the bear. >> oh, boy. >> oh. >> yeah. >> swimming against the current of the river. you can see the current's kind of dragging the bear down the river. >> tough pass. swimming across the river? >> the bear realizes that this is a tough task, so watch what the bear does. he gets out. he make as run for it, and here comes the bear. >> oh, my goodness. >> no. this is great. like an action movie. ♪ >> you can hear the elk still

screaming under the bridge. watch what happens. >> oh -- oh -- >> this is the most epic [ bleep ] of! >> now they're swimming with the current. the bear is gaining on this elk. but the elk is pulling away. >> yeah, like a michael phelps elk. >> michael "elk." >> we don't know exactly who won this battle, but according to the poster, the elk makes it to land, but the wolf is waiting on the train tracks. >> oh, my gosh. this is a bad day for this little baby elk. wow. >> in my little world, the elk got away safely and is currently with its mama drinking a little bit of milk. >> in my world, the bear and wolf shared that baby elk because there's plenty more elk p right? >> talking all about it, elton john, in the "lion king".

♪ the circle of life >> that's what elton john would want, too. hey! got a rare look inside the workings of a fire. check this out. the two-story house fire and this firefighter approaching a very well-involved fire. he grabs lis tank, throws it on and right through the front door and begins attacking this fire. fire bursting out of the upstairs doorway. you see the firefighter approaching and going upstairs. you hear him thumping around making sure the floor is safe to walk on. goes upstair, where the fire seems to be coming from first. one of his other buddies says, watch out to your left. >> i've always wondered what that looks like, with them when they go into a burning home.

so this shows exactsly what they have to deal with. >> get in there. slow down. >> a couple of his other partners find a hot spot. bust out the wall material. he gets in there with the hose. >> move that. >> right here. >> the whole new perspective. think of this happening at night? now that i'm seeing it from the inside. it almost takes your breath. >> were they able to put out the fire? >> they were able to put this house fire under control and hopefully saving a lot of memories and property in the house. >> people who think their desk job is borg should watch these video. a cushy job, they'd think, after watching that. this story will bring out tears of joy. >> this is the south l.a. area and people found a dog living in the trash. >> ah. >> do you see it? >> ah.

oh. >> poor ginchts oh, man. >> that's fiona. >> soon as they got a look at her first up they realized fiona was blind in both eyes. >> oh, my goodness. no wonder she's living in trash. she has no idea what she's around. >> so they went up to her. they were very gentle. let her sniff them and took her home and cleanered h her up. getting tlc. they had to shave off all her hair. she had the worst flea sensation they'd seen. >> that probably feels awesome after living in trash. >> the itching from the flea, too. not having that probably feels like heaven. >> then a few days later they took her to see a doctor. this amazed me. they were able to look into her eyes and figure out that, hey, we can restore her vision, and in at least one of her eyes. >> serious? >> i told you we had a happy ending. she went through the surgery and there she is eating. >> look how happy she now. jumping around. >> guess what? she was adopted.

see how they react when they see themselves? and they've got some interesting video. some of the cats are like, wait. who are you? what -- what are you doing here? >> this lion is, like, who are you and what are you doing in my area? >> i think it would be funny if, like, the lion all of a sudden started giving himself really weird hair-dos. i can see what he looks like. giving himself a mohawk. >> yeah. ah. yeah. >> isn't it interesting that animals can't recognize themselves in mirrors? if you put a mirror in front of a dog they'd chase after it a little while before they'd get bored. >> cracks me up, some of these cats are absolutely scared, even though they're in a pen with another cat. >> it's like a stranger. like you said, they can't see themselves. who the heck is that? >> the little cats use the smaller iphone cam so we didn't scare them. >> they're kind of like, i look good. all morning looking at myself. i look good. >> of course, some want to play.
