favored akiles and not him. we're not allowed to show 17-year-old max wade in court but during the brief hearing he could be seen grinning and looking back at people in the audience. wade declined to enter a plea and remains in custody in lieu of $200,000 bail. that stolen lamborghini belonged to fierri. jerry walker ran away from his group home last night. police said he had been there for three months. the boy was attending la cheim school but did not attend school today. he could still be in east oakland or may try to make his way to the eastmont area. >> apparently he had gotten into some trouble at the school he attends. and the counselors were looking at disciplining him.

yesterday it happened at about 6:00 p.m. and he got upset at some point between 6:30 and 6:45 he left the group home. >> once again jerry walker is only 11 years old. if you have seen him or know where he is, you are asked to call oakland police. a fire in contra costa county destroyed a three story home in the delta. the fire started about 12:30 this afternoon in the house on taylor place. the two alarm fire gutted the home and the man who lived there reportedly suffered minor burns while trying to get out. flying embers and smoke also damaged the house across the street. at this point firefighters are still trying to figure out what started that fire. authorities in santa clara are also trying to figure out what caused a huge fire there. it went to five alarms and forced dozens of people from their homes. the flames destroyed fire houses that were still in flames. janine de la vega tells us the house and fire also damaged fully inhabited homes near by.

building in the south market area. the dunbarton bridge is set to shut down during memorial day weekend. it's been undergoing a seismic retrofit and now they need to replace a key joint that ones across the span. crews will lift the roadway and slide in seismic bearings. it should take three days. >> the shaking is all done. the bridge will be exactly in the same operation that it is today. >> reporter: engineers say when the work is completed the roadway will be able to sway up to 3 feet in any direction in the event of a major effort quake. this is a great time of year for river rafting in northern california but everyone though river rafting is fun it can also be very dangerous. and ken pritchett tells us what happened this weekend is a case in point. >> reporter: they are called the troublemaker rapids but they offer more fun than

we are learning more tonight about what happened before president obama voiced his support for same-sex marriage. the associated press is reporting that vice president joe biden apologized to the president for forcing his hand last sunday during an appearance at meet the press. biden spoke out in favor of gay marriage, president obama said he had planned to announce his decision before the election any way. mitt romney apologized today for what he called stupid high school pranks. romney and his friends bullied classmates and in particular one boy who was presumed to be gay. >> i had no idea what that individual sexual orientation might be going back to the 1960s that wasn't something that we all discussed or considered. >> reporter: the post said romney and his friends held down the boy and cut off his bleach blond hair. romney said he doesn't recall the incident. he says he favors rights for

california might be the toughest gun laws in the country but that doesn't seem to have hurt the possibility of firearms here in the bay area. ktvu's eric rasmussen took a hidden camera into a recent gun show to see just how well the laws are being followed and he asked what is being done to stop those who are determined to break them. here is tonight's special report. >> reporter: we were among hundreds of people who crowded into the cal palace for the cross roads of the west gun show. there was no shortage of firearms, and we found some sellers were not even standing behind a counter. we watched one young man trying to sell this barreta pistol out of his backpack. he later offered to sell it to

california dairy is being recalled. at least 10 people have gotten sick between january and april. none of them was hospitalized though. state health officials issued a statewide recall of the dairy's raw skim milk, cream and butter. the california assembly today approved a bill that would make it harder for parents to send unvaccinated children to school. the bill passed by a 44-19 vote. it would require parents to talk to the doctor about the benefits and risks when it comes to immunization. california is one of 20 states that allows parents to opt out of vaccines because of personal beliefs. that bill now goes to the state senate. governor brown delivered signatures. a competing pan turned in signatures a few days ago. the governor said his plan

salmon population both got a helping hand today. some 60,000 young salmon called smolts were released into a net in half-moon bay. this is part of a five year project to try to undue some of the damage done to the salmon population in the delta. these youngsters will be taken out into the ocean and released eventually. >> these fish will be wild fish. they will be out there swimming in the ocean and most of them will fall prey to predators. hopefully enough will come back that we'll have a good fishery for years to come. >> reporter: the smolts are just a fraction of those raised at the feather river fishery by fish and game. and we're heading into your friday. the weather looks great. there's no fog along the coast right now. let's check the winds at the golden gate bridge. you will see the winds are coming southwest at about nine. that's what you expect for this time of year blowing some cool
