come down a little bit. sunny and breezy patchy morning fog. a little warmer on the afternoon highs. some of the temperatures you can see in the orange will be in the 80s. but again they are rather confined. a lot of upper 70s to near 80 degrees. 60s coast and bay. here is sal. >> actually it's tara this morning. we will take a look at the bay area roadways. first up we have a look at highway 4 through bay point. there is a little bit of win out there. traffic is flowing nicely. those headlights are southbound as you make your way toward hayward. and finally in san francisco this is a look at 101 where you can see traffic on the right hand side heading toward the airport. 4:30 right now. let's head out to lorraine blanco who is on the scene of a bad accident. >> reporter: tara, we are told it's a fatal accident and at this point we found out there

was also a child involved in this accident. three people were in that car a driver and a child were transported. one person died on scene. that was the passenger of the vehicle. right now we are joined by sergeant mary the chief public information officer. she told us a lot of information about what happened out here. can you tell us first what happened? >> at about 1:13 patrol officers responded to a report of a collision on austin street. officers found a car that had collided with a tree. initially there were three occupants in the car the driver and two passengers. it was very, very challenges for the patrol officers and fire department to try top get these individuals out of the car. the fire department and the officers really did some heroic work in terms of getting all three out of the car.

regrettably one of the passengers did die at the scene and we do have a young perp who was transported with serious injuries as well as the driver that was transported with serious injuries. >> reporter: when you see the damages to the vehicle it looks like quite a serious crash. the injuries are very serious. do we have any idea what could have caused this crash? >> we called out our fatal accident investigation team. it's part of our traffic and parking bureau. and they have a wealth of experience in using surveying tools to piece together an investigation. a solo vehicle collision is very, very challenging because you don't have any witnesses. but based on evidence they will be able to piece together the die amices -- dynamics of speed and other factors. >> reporter: this happened just after 1:00. three people in a vehicle with

a child. do we have any idea where they were heading or going or coming from? >> well, because of the serious injuries, we haven't had an opportunity to interview the folks. their medical treatment is of highest priority right now. hopefully we will have an opportunity to interview at least the adult and find out what they were doing, why they were driving in this particular direction at this time. it's quite possibly might have a witness. if you did see or hear something, call us and let us know. >> reporter: thank you very much for your time. as the sergeant said, three people were involved with that crash. we're not sure if they are related at this point. we do know a child and the driver of the soak were transport -- driver of the vehicle were transported for now we are reporting live lorraine blanco. to our other top story

company headquarters in menlo park. you can also find more at ktvu.com. in overnight news we are following from oakland police are trying to determine if an arsonist is responsible for an early morning carport fire. the fire destroyed one car but firefighters did manage to stop the flames from spreading to an apartment nearby. several people came running out of their homes after hearing a loud bang. >> first the car was burning and then it raised up to the carport then the whole thing got big fast. >> no one was hurt but the flames did cause major damage to that carport. still no word on the cause but arson investigators say that fire may have been intentionally set. pg&e crews are working to restore power out in nevada that is effecting hundreds of customers. strong winds likely brought

down two distribution lines and power poles last night just about 6:00. about 30 minutes ago pg&e spokesman told us 560 customers are still effected. their power is expected to be restored at about 9:30. police are investigating a double shooting. they responded to 65th avenue at 9:00 last night after a woman reported her son had been shot. officers found a female injured about a block away. both were taken to the hospital. their injuries are said to be nonlife threatening. neighbors tell us they heard about 20 shots. police have launched a new crack down on violent street games. ktvu road along with san mateo county gang task force during the first night of the summertime sweep. our cameras were there when the operations got off to a

surprising start. the task was holding a briefing when one officer recognized a known gang member going inside he was wanted for burglar. >> attempted murder here in our county. >> turns out the man had already been arrested and had just been released from jail. the gang task force ended up making two other arrests during the first night of the 16 week operation. new evidence has been released in the trayvon martin shooting case. coming up what autopsy results on the teenager revealed, plus court documents shed new light on the response from the sanford police department. also this morning police in the east bay are expected to release new information about this weeks fatal hit and run accident in dublin. investigators have already revealed the bicyclist that was hit and killed on dougherty road late tuesday night was a

visitor from china. he has been identified as 57- year-old bo sr.. the car was a 2012 mercedes wednesday. it was likely black in color and either a class cls-550 or 63. a bicyclist was killed in a crash in napa county. that happened about 6:30 yesterday evening. the man was riding southbound when the driver of the hatch back that was seen there in the video veered into the bike lane hitting the cyclist. the 20-year-old woman behind the wheel is not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol but the cause is under investigation. homeless camp cleanups will be temporarily restored in san jose. three sites will be targeted including one in communications hill at the end of the month. two others along coyote creek

good morning. happy friday. clear. mostly clear. a little chill in the morning air. temperatures 60s, 70s and a few 80s. >> thank you. after trayvon martin was shot and killed in florida sanford police urged the state attorney to arrest george zimmerman saying the incident was avoidable. along with the surveillance video of trayvon martin taken inside a 7-eleven the night of his death. also released the medical examiners report saying trayvon had traces of heroin in his system. now meantime new photos of george zimmerman's injuries have been released. they show cuts on the bridge of his nose and blood on the back of his head. according to the report from the sanford fire department zimmerman had cuts to his fore

head, a bloody nose and small cut to the back of his head. zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the trayvon shooting and he claims self-defense. jurors will begin deliberating the fate of john edwards' today. he is accused of using $1 million in campaign donations to cover up an affair in the 2008 presidential race. they say edwards' new about the money. the defense argues while edwards' may have been a bad husband he did not violate any federal campaign laws. he faces up to 308 years in prison if convicted. 4:47. callaises two u.s. senators are demanding answers following last weeks scathing report on oakland's veteran affairs office. dianne feinstein and barbara boxer has sent a letter to the veteran's affair secretary.

the oakland va office handles claims for all of northern california returning soldiers. the office took nearly a year to process their disability claims. that is one of the worst in the country. vallejo family wants a police officer to apologize for fatally shooting one of their dogs. the officer came to the home wednesday to take a report of identity theft. lauren and his wife had reported the crime online three days earlier. vallejo police say two of the families dogs including an 11- year-old lab mix bell aggressively came toward the officer while snarling. police say the officer feared for his safety and shot and killed bell. >> she was really nice and we loved her a lot. >> the police officer shot her. so we are very sad that that happened. >> the family says none of their dogs has ever bitten anyone.
