i am ken wayne. >> i meant health -- i am heather holmes. >> gorgeous weather for the 102 annual bay to breakers race. >> 6, 5, 4 -- >> elite runners led the way starting at 7:00 a.m. this morning. but for most, the run continued for hours. attracting crowds and quickly turning into a street party. >> that party can be fun for many but it is a sore parts for some residents. ktvu's cara liu is live in the city. the roads have been open for a few hours but crews are still tearing down here and we are still seeing some of the participates just now rapping up a day long party.

>> reporter: the san francisco experience, the 102 bay to breakers wasn't without its hiccups. costume participates pointed to the bath room situation. >> no hand sanitizer. it is over flowing. >> i don't recommend it. >> reporter: long lines formed outside, missing doors didn't be a deterrent. >> at least they had them. but could have been better. >> reporter: alcohol is now banned from the race but that didn't stop many. these residents put up yellow tape trying to keep partyers off their property. >> they broke the stairs. people were just going in and out like it was their house. >> reporter: they say this year seemed more tame. >> couple years where it has been -- [ talking at the same

time ] >> probably necessary. they moved people on. the minute the crowds stopped, they moved them on. >> i don't know if they banned the alcohol or what, seems to be fun but not so rowdy this year. >> reporter: police cleared it streets around noon. cleaning crews picked up 40,000 pounds of trash, the silty reopened most streets an hour ahead of schedule. cara liu, ktvu channel 2 news. police say one person was arrested during the race for intoxication and resisting arrests. officers issued 8 citations and alcohol and marijuana. >> while the race is known for crazy costms it is a -- costumes it is a real race. ktvu's allie rasmus has more. >> reporter: with the runners

crossing the finish line, bay to breakers was ike any other race, they wanted to win -- was like any other race, they wanted to come in first. manitu daska won the women's division in 39 minutes. most of the people running weren't motivated by money. >> i was a smoker and i quit smoking and decided to get healthy. >> we wanted to do something different. >> reporter: there are two sides to the bay to breakers, the people who run the race and the people who come to party. >> one big party. >> a big parade. >> reporter: hours after the serious runners came through the crowd made its way down the hill show casing their costumes long the way. this mobile golden gate bridge

rough seas off southern california has delayed the plan for the departure of the uss iowa. the ship was scheduled to leave this afternoon and sail under the golden gate bridge with boats accompanying her. but a spokesman says the trip was canceled because of heavy seas down south. when the weather improves the uss iowa will sail to los angeles. tonight ktvu will focus on the history of the moth-ball fleet, including the uss iowa at 11:00 tonight after the 10:00 news. word tonight from the family of robin gibb announcing he died today at the age of 62. and hit them with sticks. police responded as you can see here, with batons. there is no official count on the number arrested or injured. bay area protesters came out today to support the protest in chicago. an occupation of berkeley's university avenue foot bridge. signs said stop militarizing our earth and disband nato. they hope to raise awareness about the use of drones. >> i wanted to get the message out today to think about what nato is doing, led by president obama, who is sending drones all over the world right now, killing people. >> they will make a complaint against an chp officer who tore down some signs. the california highway patrol said they spent an officer to check if they were a traffic

the san francisco homeowner has to make repairs after a car slammed into the house last night. police say the car landed upside down in the house.

one person was injured. pg&e crews had to cap a gas line. a pg&e spokes men says the homeowner will have to do extensive repairs to make it safe enough for a new gas line. right now, rare, it shouldn't be viewed by the naked eye. the annular eclipse is just now beginning. ktvu's jade hernandez is live in the east bay hills. it is a sold out event there? >> reporter: that's right. 400 people paid $5 to come out and see the annular eclipse here. many people are excited because you won't get a chance to see this again till 2023. so everyone here is excited. the one thing to keep in mind. you don't have to look into the sun. it is never -- never, ever,

revealed a large marijuana grow operation. it is located on broadway. the fire sent flames shooting 30 feet into the air. firefighters found 200 marijuana plants. police are asking for your help in a gang shooting that's left a man injured. they found the victim on honeysuckle drive. before 6:40 last night. police haven't released the victim's name but says he is 18 from san jose. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. oakland is working on a proposal to make sure demonstrations stay peaceful. a may day protest resulted in 40 arrests and felony charges that included assault and vand

news. a blockbuster business deal involving google cleared a key hurdle allowing the company to buy motorola mobility. officials in china have now cleared the deal. google's android operating system must remain free for the next 5 years. it allows google access to thousands of pattens. the merger will close in a few days. an zahn may have found -- amazon may have found a way to cash in on california's sales tax. they are setting up facilities in california to handle orders made by californians. the cities get a portion of the sales taxes and now officials may return millions of dollars back to amazon as a thank you

fire crews in san bernardino county continue to fight a massive industrial blaze tonight. drivers along i-10 could see explosions and huge flames where the blaze broke out last night. several acres burned, including a tire facility. three firefighters suffered minor injuries. now to the race for the white house, the deadline to register to vote in the primary is approach. all voter forms must be post marked by tomorrow. you can go to the secretary of state's website and download forms and find them at post offices and libraries. the economic crisis could result in fewer latinos heading

housing. he wanted to build a new film studio but faced opposition from neighbors so he died to -- he decided to turn over land for low income housing. but that too was blocked by neighborhoods but officials are warming up to the low income housing plan. discussing a proposal to provide ferry service to san francisco. it would be an added transit option for residents. there is a proposal in the works to include a dock near a planned train station and bus transfer area. but the shoreline is shallow and muddy. the city counsel is scheduled to hear more details on tuesday. while same-sex couples are heralding president obama support, they are looking for

animal rescue foundation. they find homes for pets. organizers expected 4,000 people to attend this afternoon. >> the vendors have been fabulous with all kind of great stuff. and we had more than 100 walkers today, pet rund raising walk. -- fundraising walk. >> she came in the top 7. >> there is ruby. today's festival included evaluations and a wellness fair and nail clippings and the like. some found all the excitement exhausting. and needed a moment to rest up and recharge. >> that was probably one of those two breeds. >> it wased. -- was a pooped pooched.

we will cool off tomorrow, you will notice the change. sun-cloud mix. and the temperature trend will continue to cool off towards wednesday and into thursday. first thing tomorrow morning, the fog coast side, around the bay. coolest locations in the upper 40s. most of the bay area starting out monday morning in the 50s. high pressure has been in command of the weather today. temperatures peaking but the fog increasing over night. weather system to the north and west, generating high clouds. as the area of low pressure moves in, brings in cooler for monday and tuesday, wednesday and thursday. water quality advisory in place for parts of the coast lines, around mavericks. closer to pillar point because elevated levels of bacteria, the key here, avoid water contact in this region.

but he and his wife had a baby and now we won the amgen tour of california. the running the of bay to breakers through the streets of san francisco. the elite women start the race first before the elite men. with the lead, manitu daska won a $5,000 bonus for being the first running. the first person to cross the line was manitu daska, $25,000 for that. and $7,000 for being the women's women. the fastest time, and finished 15 seconds behind manitu daska and there is always plenty of that once the race is over. the spurs can finish off the clippers tonight with a win at the staples center and in a
