always wins. >> reporter: at 6:00 a live look inside that commission hearing and the jane doe witness the city may call to testify against mirkarimi. a san francisco school principal today pleaded not guilty to dui and hit-and-run charges. sheila salmon moloski seen here in the brown outfit there is the principal after paul revere school. she's accused of driving drunk and trying to flee after hitting two cars near the golden gate bridge earlier this month. officers say she had a blood alcohol level higher than .08. she is said to return to court june 26th. at this hour homicide detectives in san jose are investigateing the case of a body that was found today in a local pond. robert handa is here today to tell us why that incident generated so many questions today, robert. >> reporter: well we are at the pond in south san jose where investigators spent the morning and early afternoon searching for a body that they are trying

to determine is a homicide victim. they are searching this area for a number of different reasons. it is a sight that many people in the bay area are familiar seeing. the sheriff dive team out early this morning searching a local water way. this time a percolation pond in south san jose. when word spread through the neighborhood saying this was a search for a body people came out knowing not what to think. >> my first thought would be sierra lamar and that just really breaks my heart so i don't know what it is yet. but i hope that it's not her. >> reporter: as we reported on our noon newscast, police told us quickly the body in question was a male possibly an adult. the police department acknowledged it very quickly because they got so many calls asking if it was lamar. they came out and detectives the body with sonar equipment

and they recovered the body. officers spent four hours last night searching for a man reported missing in the area. >> every time you have a missing person reported dead. you put those two together, any police department would look very closely at the circumstances, right now we're treating it as a homicide. >> it's not good to see all of this. actually it's very disturbing. especially right here in your backyard. >> reporter: at this point police are not releasing a name since the coroner's office is still trying to determine a cause of death. the sheriff's department says the operation put off a search for sierra lamar today they plan to resume those searches tomorrow. live in san jose, robert handa. police are asking for your help in finding a missing elderly man. 69-year-old meng linggong weighs 111 pounds, he's considered to be at risk because he has dementia. search and rescue crews are searching for him at the wildlife refuge. his cell phone was found there

early this morning. police say they are especially concerned because the wetlands can be difficult to walk through in the dark. a man who allegedly crashed a stolen car into another vehicle in contra costa county is behind bars after a brief chase today. it all started about 10:00 this morning in pleasanthill. that's when sheriff deputies spotted a stolen car near monument boulevard. sheriff officials tell us the driver pulled into the parking lot of the apartments and struck another car. he then jumped out and ran off. officers spotted the suspect and arrested him. a 16-year-old boy has died of injuries that killed his mother. the alameda corner say javier chavez died yesterday. his mother 22-year-old alicia lopez died at the scene. her boyfriend jose lombr era s was behind the wheel when their car slammed into a tree. he was critically injured he's

been charged with vehicle manslaughter. investigators say his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. oakland police have identified a husband and father of two found shot to death over the weekend. 30-year-old ronald kid of hayward was shot sunday morning while driving down market street near seventh street. he was on his way home from work and had just stopped at his mom's home. plus are not saying if he was shot by someone on the street or from another car. a motive for the killing is still not known and no arrests have been made at this point. in about 20 minutes we get a look at a major crime crack down in oakland. you will see the dozens of guns and hear about the arrests that were made by authorities. we are getting new details tonight about a fatal officer involved shooting in vallejo last week. today police released this photo of a man killed in the shootings. investigators now say the man identified as peter mestler was

to withstand -- >> reporter: truly an amazing story. these are the two crowns that will sit on top of the bay bridge. but there's a question now, will this bridge stand as the strongest bridge of its type or will it have an asterisk. 13 pilings 200 feet into the floor of the bay form the very roots of and the solid footing for the massive new tower that holds the span. but now information has surfaced which seems to suggest that two of those concrete and steel pillars may not be as strong as required. certain sounds tests were either not done or records for them don't exist. we've been asking caltrans for a response all day long. the usual spokes people have simply by muzzled. i'm told this request is in the hands of the governor's office. but i've learned from sources those sonic tests are not even required what is required sophisticated x-ray testing has been done and all the pilings apparently have passed those

tests. but whether or not this remains true is a mystery. and when something this serious is treated by caltrans with silence, it is back in the hands of the governor who says he's bringing a new openness into the state of california. we'll bring more of it as we get deeper and deeper into the debate. and a new street closure will take place tomorrow morning. it'll take place from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. once demolition is complete they will start to build a new bridge. the california high speed rail authority has a new ceo and he's a man that's very familiar with the project.

this morning after picking up a group of passengers in the mission district. police say three men got into a taxi on valencia street and 18th. the passengers began arguing then one of them started yelling at the officer then started choking him from the backseat. the driver managed to stop the cab and ran off along with two of the passengers. police say the passenger who tried to choke the driver took the cab and then crashed into another car just about a block away. officers soon arrived on the scene and arrested a 48-year- old man. a graphic display today of some of the fire power that would have ended up on bay area streets if not for a major bust in oakland. john sasaki is here tonight and shows us the weapon and two persons accused of trying to sell them. john. >> reporter: just two and a half hours ago oakland police showed off 16 guns they seized in one bust. it's part of a major effort to reduce crime and violence. it was a table full of guns

the prosecution rested its case in a the trial of roger clemens. the prosecution called its final witness. now the defense begins its case which clemens attorney says will take about two weeks. clemens is accused of lying to congress. this week congress is focusing on the security of the nation's subway and commuter train. the house is set to approve a bill requiring federal officials communicate better with transit agencies and police. it would place homeland security in local emergency

response centers. they would be responsible for communicating rail system threats to local law enforcement. supporters of the bill say the homeland security department has focused too much on aviation and not enough on trains. the senate appropriations committee recommended to start doubling tsa increase. the transportation security administration says the boost is necessary after its regular funding was cut in the federal budget. if approved by correct congress, the fee will increase from $5 to $10 per round trip. the associated press today reported that money raised by the state through the sale of those so called 9/11 silence plates have not been going to scholarships and has partially gone to anti terrorism efforts. and now there's word that governor brown has ordered an audit where those funds have gone. the plates read, we will never

this is what the winds look like. we're seeing fairly significant on shore winds. what's going to happen as we get to the next 36 hours, the temperatures are going to do something like this. see the red, it's going to start pulling that warm air into our direction. temperatures on the increase this whole week as we go through time. so patchy coastal fog. definitely in the forecast tonight. we'll see more of it tomorrow morning. should burn off more rapidly tomorrow. as we head into the afternoon, tomorrow temperatures into the upper 70s in some of the warmest spots. as we go through the fog product tomorrow morning around 7:00 a.m., you see plenty of fog out toward montclaire. then it burns away. as soon as it burns away temperatures will warm. we're looking for temperatures to get back into the fairly the high numbers. especially inland low 80s

in the annual national geographic bee. he beat out more than 50 finalists from all over the country. the national geographic bee gave him a $5,000 scholarship and his school awarded him with a special certificate. it's been almost three months since a motorist struck a father and his daughter. the cloud of suspicion surrounding the 17-year-old driver and why authorities say it's taking so long to decide on possible charges. it's difficult to watch but this cell phone video of a vallejo teenager being beaten in school isn't the only one. the call tonight for action to stop campus bullies.
