this morning, mubarak was sentenced life for his role in the killing of protesters dug the uprising that forced him to resign. those in the crowd say, they wanted mubarak's execution and angry over the acquittal of his two sons and senior advisors. the life sentence sparked anger inside and outside the couple after the verdict was read leading to minor fights. 20 people were hurt. some by rocks. four people were arrested. we are hearing from secretary of state, hilary clinton, about mubarak's sentence. speaking from norway, she said his fate is quote up to the egyptian people, their judicial system and they government. clinton is praising egypt for what she calls recent free and fair elections to replace mubarak and says it's a sign of egypt's progress and democratic transition. delays at san francisco airport and there could be delays today at oakland

and a car crashed on a narrow road in central contra costa county. the accident happened on marsh creek road just outside of clayton shortly after 10:00 p.m. the roads was closed for three hours, but is open again this morning. the cause of that crash is also under investigation. this morning, a man is in the hospital after a hit and run in san francisco. he was hit while in a crosswalk at 3rd and bryant. police say it happened around 10:00 last night. they say he was hit by a dark sedan, possibly a town car. anyone with information about that case is asked to call san francisco police. passengers are being asked to check their flight status because of expected delays at san francisco international airport and oakland airport. at sfo, one of the main arrival runways was closed last night and will stay closed until 8:00 a.m. on monday, while crews modify lighting and signs. united airlines has canceled some flights because of the work and there are also reports of fog delays. now, this weekend's work is part of a long-term project to install more safety buffers at

the end of the runways. >> it's going to happen more frequently as we get to the end of the project. we're trying to do it with minimal impact. there are are some things we just have to do. >> at oakland international airport, one of the main runways will close from 8:00 p.m. tonight to 6:00 p.m. both today and tomorrow. airport officials are not expecting any major delays, but traffic patterns will change overnight, resulting in more noise for the folks living nearby. one year ago today, the san francisco fire department lost two of its own. this morning, we go to san francisco with how firefighters are paying tribute to the fallen. christian? >> reporter: just 90 minutes, firefighters and really the whole city of san francisco will pause to pay tribute to those fallen firefighters. you can see the big hook and ladder truck here at station 26 has been pulled out. as we walk up, you can see the roll-up doors here at the station are also up, preparing that inside there for today's ceremony.

the fire house is still grieving for firefighter vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony very letter row. both died fighting a fire in a home, due to a flashover fire. a ceremony honoring the two men is set to take place at the fire house at 10:30 this morning, including the dead cavings a plaque in monday of the men. there will be a moment of silence observed at 10:58, about the time the two men were found at that home. all the department's off-duty firefighters and the public are welcome to attend. we just spoke with the captain here about 15 minutes ago, and she tells me that following that ceremony, there will be a barbecue here. if you take a look at our live shot at this park, walter haas park, the public, again, invited. she said part of the reason for having the barbecue is because these men really embraced life and they want to celebrate the lives these two men lived. she also said that their passing was also a learning opportunity.

they learned two important safety tips from that terrible tragedy. one is the importance of communication between firefighters and their command. and also, they learned they need to take their time when approaching these fires, if there is not an emergency. in other words, a need to get somebody out immediately. we will continue to follow the details out here and bring you the latest on the memorial for the two fallen heroes. for now, back to you. in our continuing coverage this morning, we want to show you some live pictures of the protest now under way in egypt's tahrir square. you can see that crowd has packed the area and really has grown in the last hour since we've been checking in on the situation there. this all comes after former president hosni mubarak was sentenced earlier this morning. he got life in prison, but the protesters wanted him executed for his role in the killing of protesters during last year's revolution. they are also upset over the acquittal of mubarak's two sons and senior advisors. there are reports this morning

as well that mubarak suffered a heart attack shortly after the verdict was read, but we are still trying to confirm that information. a suspect has been arrested in the san ramon jewelry store robbery that ended in a deadly shooting. police arrested 19-year-old chris neil in hayward yesterday. they say he and 18-year-old keybanc tried to rob the golden treasures store with two other men, shot and killed. investigators are still looking for the other two suspects. oakland police are investigating a fatal shooting. officers say a young man was found dead inside a mini market on 96th avenue and olive street in east oakland. it happened around 8:45 last night. investigators believe the man may have been shot outside and then stumbled his way into the store. he was pronounced dead at the scene from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. at this point, police say they do not have any suspects. starting this weekend, fairfield police will get some extra crime fighting help. a grant is allowing the city to

month. if there's enough support, facebook could start showing people ads on outside websites. the ads chosen would be based on the hobbies and other things facebook users express interest in on their pages. by the end of the weekend, george zimmerman is expected to be back in jail. zimmerman is the man accused of killing 17-year-old trayvon martin. in april, he turned himself in and then was released on $150,000 bail. but yesterday, the judge said zimmerman had misled the court about his financial situation and so the judge revoked that basement prosecutors said he had $135,000 from a website that was set up specifically to raise money and the court says that information wasn't disclosed during the bail hearing. >> the defendant sat there when he was aware of that money transferring from one fund to the other and that there was plenty of money. we've got to make sure this defendant gets a fair trial and the state gets a fair trial. >> zimmerman's defense attorneys

say zimmerman and his wife were not aware they could use that money. the judge has given him 48 hours to turn himself in. boxer floyd mayweather, jr. is in jail. the world champion turned himself in yesterday to begin serving a jail sentence for attacking his ex-girlfriend. mayweather pleaded guilty to domestic battery charges last december and was sentenced to serve three months. because mayweather is a high profile inmate, las vegas police say he will most likely serve most of his time away from other prisoners. a safeway club card helped police arrest a walnut creek woman accused of using a stolen credit card. police tell us 34-year-old tracy wheeler paid for items at safeway with her credit card from a purse that she had stolen, but used her own safeway card to get a discount. police say that personalized safeway card led them straight to wheeler as their main suspect. and these next accused criminals also left the trail for police. that trail was made of junk

food. doritos, oreos, cheetohs, leading all the way from a little league snack bar to a house just a few blocks away. inside that house were a man, two women and a girl who police say broke into the snack bar. the snack bar's cash register was also found inside the home. san jose police arrested a man for felony vandalism. investigators say robert sidike spray painted a character that looks like felix the cat on several highly visible locations, including freeways. they add it cost about $30,000 to clean up that graffiti. this morning, dozens of volunteers are expected to help fix up a community garden hit by vandals last month. actually, the effort started just about 20 minutes ago. more than $18,000 worth of equipment and native plants were destroyed and so volunteers right now are putting in new plants to fix community garden boxes and removing the old and damaged fencing that is around that garden. well, there is a big bash going on in the united kingdom. the golden jubilee for queen

hear him describe what he saw happened. >> looked like he was already unconscious going to the ground. he was going straight back. his arms were limp, kind of out behind him, like gravity had taken him. it was like a tree falling. there was no movement. he didn't make any attempt to -- wasn't able to put his arms out to break the fall. >> the preliminary hearing is being held to determine if there is enough evidence to bring those two men to trial. we now know the name of the bay area man who died after merced county deputies used a stun gun on him. randolph rowward died after being hit with the stun gun. he was fighting with another person in front of a home. when police got there, they used the stun gun to try to subdue him, but he stopped breathing and had to be taken to the hospital. an autopsy is under way. oakland man under arrest, accused of using an unusual disguise to rob a string of

banks. 35-year-old darrent williams is accused of wearing an elaborate mask to disguise himself as an elderly man robbing more than 10 banks, including bank of the west in san leandro back in october. he faces several counts of robbery and weapons charges. four bay area hospitals are being fined for mistakes state officials say put patients in danger. the department of public health says kaiser san francisco medical center, chinese hospital in san francisco, kaiser oakland medical center, and santa clara valley medical center in san jose are among 13 hospitals in california that made policy and administrative mistakes that could have resulted in injury or even death. the west con take kosta unified school district is celebrating a big financial achievement. it finished paying off a state loan four years ahead of schedule. . good morning to you. a live look here at all that blue sunshine -- did i really just say that? blue skies and sunshine over parts of the bay area this morning! we're still socked in pretty good, right along the coastline. pacifica, half moon bay, santa cruz, stretching across the bay into the east bay. oakland, san leandro, hayward still dealing with bright skies. it will peel back. we're looking at mostly sunny skies for the east bay by late morning, then lingering off the coastline with mostly cloudy skies expected for the afternoon. winds, 16 miles per hour, sfo. onshore breeze is strengthening. as it does, it's going to bring in the cooler pacific air all the way inland. we're already seeing it this morning. livermore, 5 degrees cooler than where we sat just 24 hours ago. southwesterly breeze, a light one, but it's there. livermore, 16 miles per hour, blowing in concord. right around the delta, winds are really gusting at times. we really need them fairly

strong in order to bring in that cooler air. that's what we're seeing. so temperatures will be rolling back for the afternoon. won't call it cool necessarily, because we'll still warm into the 80s, but we're saying good-bye to the 90s we felt yesterday. satellite and radar, ridge of high pressure continuing to break down. notice the systems that are arriving over the north of us, even bringing rain to areas along the pacific northwest, into tahoe, west slope there. if you're headed this way for the weekend, there is a red flag warning, because the winds are really expected to kick up as these weak systems continue to push off over the north of us. what it's doing here at home is bringing the cooler air, bringing the stronger onshore breeze, low clouds, marine layer deepening, could be a little deeper for tomorrow. in a nutshell, we've got coastal clouds this morning, off to a mild start. if you have a softball game this morning, 50s and 60s already outside your door. notable drop in the afternoon highs, and then a stronger system dropping out of the gulf of alaska could actually bring us a few scattered showers on monday. for today, 86 expected for santa

rosa, 80 for petaluma, upper 70s san rafael, mid-60s in oakland, 70 for san leandro. mid-80s around danville, pleasantton, 86 for livermore, 83 in walnut creek. nice and warm, mostly sunny sky. 79 san jose, 76 expected santa clara. for the peninsula, widespread low to mid-70s. 75 redwood city. 76 expected mountain view. in the city, it's going to be a mild day, fairly cool with the onshore breeze, 64 san francisco. widespread low 60s for areas right around daily city, down near pacifica, half moon bay. there is your extended forecast. cooling trend will continue, eventually falling below average for this time of year. put on the icon there, a few scattered showers possible for monday. then we dry out fairly fast tuesday and wednesday, still remaining below average for early june. widespread low 70s in the forecast for tuesday for valley locations. mid to upper 70s for the inland

areas. back to the desk. two people had to be rescued from fast-moving flood waters in china. check out that situation. that is a taxi cab that actually tried to drive across a dam. all the water was triggered by heavy rains. when the taxi cab driver got washed away, that's when the rescue happened. the taxi driver and his passenger got out of the car, grabbed on to the pier. the passengers floated downstream. firefighters did manage to rescue her, then used the crain to get to the driver. it took about an hour, but both the driver and his passenger were taken safely to land. well, the baltimore region is cleaning up after severe storms there. an intense storm system produced at least one tornado yesterday and lots of damage. check out those broken tree branches. they are also downed trees on buildings like that one and there were overturned trucks because of all of this. so far, the national weather service has confirmed only one tornado, but is investigating reports of several others. a record-setting fire in new

mexico now covers 339 square miles. the fire in new mexico's gila national forest is the largest fire burning in the country. 1200 firefighters are working on it in what the governor is calling impossible terrain. the fire is only 15% contained and forecasters predict thunderstorms and dry lightning could spark even more fires. a heart stopping rescue of a baby in a runaway stroller, all caught on video in seattle. check this out. the stroller is actually rolling into an intersection, as you can see right there. this is video taken from a garbage truck. the mother had been jogging with her baby, thought she parked and locked the stroller and was talking to a friend when this happened. the man you're looking at in the video is garbage truck driver jeff blackburn who happened to be in the right place at the right time. >> i hit the brake and jumped out of the truck and tried to run over there and grab t luckily, when i was honking the horn, there was a fedex truck coming through the intersection and he stopped because he heard

the horn honking. >> the stroller goes up over the curb. blackburn and another woman were actually able to stop the stroller. inside, the smiling baby boy was just fine. there's the frantic mother running across the street to grab the stroller. and i'm sure breathing several sighs of relief. you're right. it's a quick exit! grabbed the baby and wanted to take off. >> maybe a little stunned. speaking of stunned, it was a first for the new york mets. a no-no in the big apple. . good morning. welcome back. a live look at the oakland area there. gray skies will pull back, mostly sunny, not as warm inland for your afternoon. time now, 9:45. we want to recap our top stories for you this morning. want to show you live pictures. this is egypt's tahrir square in cairo. and the crowd just keeps growing. right now, that square is shut down because of large crowds protesting the life sentence of former president hosni mubarak. protesters say they believe mubarak should have received a death sentence. the verdict was delivered earlier this morning for mubarak's role in the killing of protesters during last year's revolution. during the 18-day riots, more than 850 people were killed. now, there are also reports this morning that mubarak suffered a heart attack during his transfer to the prison hospital. still, no word on his condition. well, this weekend,

passengers at san francisco international airport and oakland airport should expect delays. right now at sfo, one of the main arrival runways is closed and it's going to remain closed until 8:00 a.m. monday morning. united airlines is already reporting some cancellations because of this. oakland airport is also going to close one runway tonight and tomorrow night. both closures are work related. san mateo police have arrested eragon high school's swim coach. a female student says joshua tatro touched her inappropriately. he now faces charges of sexual assault on a minor and lewd acts with a minor. it was one year ago today that san francisco fire department lost two of its own. ktvu's christian captain joining us live from san francisco with how firefighters are paying tribute to the fallen. christian? >> reporter: good morning, mike. just about 45 minutes, san francisco, the city and firefighters here will pause to reflect and remember the firefighters who gave their lives a year ago today.

firefighters inside the doors, now preparing for today's ceremony. the fire house is still grieving for firefighter vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony valero. both men died fighting a fire in a home during a flashover fire. this morning, i talked with the captain here who tells me that one of the legacies of the fallen firefighters are lessons to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other firefighters. >> slow down a little, unless we know of a known rescue, never going to slow down for that. but one of the big problems on all, almost every fire is communication, always a little bit of a problem. >> reporter: a ceremony honoring the two men is set to take place at the fire house at 10:30 this morning, including the dedication of a plaque in honor of the men and memorial garden. there will also be a moment of silence observed at about 10:58, about the time those men were found inside that home. all the department's off-duty firefighters and the public are

welcome to attend. following the ceremony, there will also be a barbecue here at walter haas park. they are inviting the public to attend. they say they understand that while they are still grieving, the city of san francisco is also grieving the loss of these two firefighters. we will be here today and will have complete coverage for you tonight on the 5:00 news. for now, live in san francisco, christian captain, ktvu, channel 2news. a dangerous new drug called bath salts is on the rise in california. the drug causes hallucinations, like lsd and pcp. poison control really hasn't heard much about bath salts before last year, but has since received nearly 300 calls about the drug and almost all involved people going to the hospital because of it. police in miami are awaiting toxicology tests to see if a man who attacked a homeless man was high on those bath salts. officers witnessed rudy eugene eating the homeless man's face.

eugene was naked and growled at police during the attack. an officer wound up shooting and killing him. investigators think u gene was under a drug-induced psychosis after taking those bath salts. defense secretary leon panetta is outlining details of a new u.s. military strategy. this is video of panetta greeting troops in hawaii. this morning, he was speaking from singapore. he said the u.s. will move the majority of its war ships to the asia-pacific region in the next few years. six aircraft carriers are also going to be kept there. he says the shift in focus to asia is designed to contain china's emergence as global power. meanwhile, secretary of state hillary clinton is in norway. this is her second trip to that area, which could become a new international battle ground for resources. clinton says norway's northern area has an unexplored region of oil, gas and mineral deposits and to take advantage of these, the u.s. and other countries near the north pole are trying to work together to fight climate change and prevent oil

spills. the green lantern is coming out of the closet. the comic book character created back in the 1940s will come out as gay next wednesday. the group one million moms opposes the idea, saying on its website, these companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children's superheroes to desensitize and brain wash them into thinking the gay life-style choice is normal and desirable. comic book stores we spoke with disagree. >> huge thing for the gay community to have a well-known character to be a gay man. >> they are trying to be more representative of how people actually are. >> the owner of isotope comic book lounge told us the original green lantern character, alan scott, had a gay son, so it makes sons that dc comics and the writer revamp the character as a gay man. the comic book business is enjoying a comeback, thanks to a slew of new films.

marvel's latest superhero movie" avengers "is dominating the screen, taking in $660 million last year by some estimates. what makes comics unique is how they have thrived when other print formats like newspapers and magazines have diminished in sales. one of the most popular features of oprah winfrey's old show is making a new appearance. on monday, winfrey will launch what she calls book club 2.0. it's all just in time for summer. in a video posted on her own network site, winfrey says this will be an online book club. the first book for the club is called "wild," a story of an 1100-mile hike northward on the pacific coast trail. tonight, the san francisco symphony will mark its 100th anniversary with the annual black & white ball. this is the scene from last night, preparing for tonight's celebration. there will also be three jumbo screens set up outside so people
