teen sierra lamar. . good evening, everyone. hope you enjoyed the game. thank you for joining us for this special edition of ktvu news. >> we'll have sports highlights for you a little later in this newscast, but first the news. word tonight that san francisco giants third baseman pablo sandoval is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault. the santa cruz county sheriff's office says sandoval met the alleged victim in downtown santa cruz thursday night. authorities say the alleged assault occurred early the next morning at a resort. friday, detectives questioned sandoval, but did not arrest or detain him. sandoval's attorney said he had a consensual relationship with the alleged victim. in a statement released today, sandoval's attorney said, quote, pablo fully cooperated with the sheriff's department. out of respect for the process, we have no further comment at this time. we have a news crew at at&t park

in san francisco right now for tonight's game against the cubs. coming up on the 10:00 news, we'll have reaction from the giants and giants fans on the allegations against pablo sandoval. the san francisco fire department today paused this morning to remember those two firefighters who were killed following a house fire one year ago. >> today, the department saluted fallen firefighter vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony valero. the two men were overcome by intense heat fighting a fire on berkeley way in diamond heights. members of their families also took part in today's ceremony. >> i still miss him and i keep praying. >> san francisco fire department officials say they are implementing more than two dozen recommended changes to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again. you can also find raw footage from today's memorial on ktvu.com. just look for the video player on our home page.

a three-alarm grass fire in brisbane has been contained, but hundreds of people in that area remain without power tonight. the fire broke out around 1:30 this afternoon and burned about 7 acres. crews shut down the bayshore boulevard onramp to northbound highway 101, as several agencies tackled the fire. pg&e tells us an equay have spae flames. close to 800 customers in brisbane and south san francisco are still without power. pg&e says power may not be restored until late tonight. highway patrol investigating an accident in contra costa county that left two people dead and another seriously injured. it happened just before 10:15 last night on marsh creek road in clayton. authorities say one person was pronounced dead at the scene. the other died later at the hospital. a third person was hospitalized with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. police in fairfield arrested a man today on suspicion of stabbing an 84-year-old man. investigators say this man,

damon hamilton, attacked the elderly man yesterday inside a motel room. the victim was taken to the hospital. police say his injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. hamilton was booked into the solano county jail on charges of elder abuse, attempted murder and robbery. we have new information tonight about the victim of a drive-by shooting in oakland. the shooting happened just before 9:00 last night at a mini mart on 96th avenue and olive street. the mercury news reports the shooting killed 18-year-old alejandro aguilera of san leandro. he has family in the area and was a frequent visitor to the store, but police do not believe he was the target. he was an 11th grader at life academy in oakland. no arrests have been made. volunteers spanned out in the south bay today for a new search for missing teenager sierra lamar. searchers moved to a new area today. >> reporter: mike, we're here at the morgan hills school that has become headquarters for the

sierra lamar search. just over there, we can see the last of the volunteers getting ready to leave today. they fanned out in a 10-mile stretch from sierra's home. >> just trying to figure out how close we are to the point where we could at least start our route. >> reporter: it's the 24th volunteer search. >> seems like we have to go that way. >> reporter: teams fanned out, looking for sierra lamar. >> i still have a lot of hope she'll be found alive. >> reporter: these hills were lush green when sierra was first reported missing. months later, search volunteers are combing through dry brush, battling heat, steep terrain and the threat of rattle snakes to help bring sierra home. here in this idyllic landscape, they are looking for evidence and conflicted about what they hope they will find. >> pray that we do and pray that we don't. >> anything that gives us a hint that someone -- something that may be related to the case. >> reporter: this man is one of 20 first time volunteers to come

francisco was wrecked recently by vandals. just last month, vandals broke into the candlestick point community garden and destroyed thousands of plants there. today, volunteers from several bay area companies and the state park foundation joined together to repair the damage. they also planted more than 1000 new plants. pg&e says it provided $15,000 for a new, taller, more secure fence to protect the garden in the future. one of san francisco's biggest social events of the year is under way right now in the city. ktvu's matt keller is at the civic center, where thousands of people have turned out in their finest attire for this year's black & white ball. >> reporter: yeah, a lot of people looking nice tonight here on the streets of san francisco. it is a windy night for the black & white ball. the big draw, paul simon playing with the san francisco symphony. there are several other bands playing tonight throughout civic center plaza, including the wall flowers and cindy lauper. organizers expect between 5000 and 6000 people tonight. food and drink is included with the ticket. money raised goes to the

. construction work on one of the run ways at san francisco international airport causing delays this weekend. airport officials say runway 28-l is closed until monday morning. the planned closure is allowing construction crews to repair runway lights and signs. the closure is cutting the arrival rate in half, from 60 aircraft per hour to 30. the closure is mostly affecting arrivals for short haul flights. the california primary is on tuesday, but you don't have to wait until then to vote. the alameda county registrar is open tomorrow. san francisco and santa clara counties have early voting tomorrow and monday. turnout is light so far, with a few dozen voters showing up today in oakland. >> for a low turnout election, we'll see, oh, i don't know, 75% of our turnout will be by mail.

very few people go to the polls anymore. >> we never give up. always encourage. people died for the right to vote. >> the naacp held a rally to get out the vote at a west oakland senior center. although the democratic and republican presidential candidates are decide, there are many other races and a few propositions on this ballot, including prop 29, the tobacco tax initiative. >> as you see from the pictures in oakland, pretty sunny out there, but it was windy as well. let's check in with mark on the forecast. really notice those winds kicking up this afternoon. those winds transporting cooler air. probably already felt that today and the trend will continue into sunday. right now, you can see our live camera showing dense fog expanding over the bay and we'll continue to watch that move back into the region at least over the next four to eight hours, heading into early sunday morning. there is the coverage showing up right now for pacifica, daily city, right around san francisco as well. so overnight lows tomorrow

there's a formula by which the giants are supposed to be able to win games. their pitching is so good, couple of runs expected to be enough more times than not. throwback day at at&t park to 1912, when the new york giants and chicago cubs would have met. homer in the 4th and the cubs made the run stand up until the 6th. giants didn't exactly kill the ball, but they took the lead off matt garza. aubrey huff walks to tie it. arias with a chopper. huff was hustling to second. cabrera came home with the lead run. garza left to wonder how he could be trailing. giants win 2-1. brandon mccarthy off the disabled list for the a's, on
