. good evening. united airlines is departing oakland. the carrier made its final flight out of the airport less than 3 hours ago. ktvu has emotional reaction from passengers. >> reporter: united airlines has had a presence here at oakland international airport for as long as most bay area residents can remember. as of just a couple of hours ago, the airline packed its bags. united airlines final departure out of oakland international. >> i found out about 3 seconds ago i was going to be on the last flight. it's astonishing that they are closing. >> reporter: many checking in were surprised. >> so many of my personal life changes have happened on this airline, when i got my degree, when i started traveling for my business, all this stuff. but i'll miss them. >> reporter: balloons decorated the counter and long-time employees took photos and exchanged hugs. the airline back in 2003 closed

its oakland maintenance facility and perhaps that was a sign of what was to come. now, less than a decade later, citing continued financial losses, the airline has cut its oakland service. flight 726 sunday afternoon to denver marked the end of an era. >> we've been flying here for over 80 years, but it's time for us to expand our san francisco operations and really focus on airports that deliver the most convenience in service to our customers. >> reporter: boeing air transport, predecessor to united airlines, began service in oakland back in 1927. airline officials tell us all employees based here in oakland were offered other jobs. most are going to either san francisco or san jose. live here in oakland, ktvu channel 2news. across the bay, at san francisco international airport, it is experiencing delays today. one of the main run ways, 28 left use for arrivals is shut down for work on lighting and

signs. the work has been going on all weekend. about 40% of flights have been delayed so far today, with the arrivals affected more than the departures by more than an hour. overall, short hop flights are feeling the impact the most. pablo sandoval won't comment about the sexual assault allegations against him. the giants third baseman played in stockton last night for the minor league san jose giants. he's rehabbing from an injury. on friday, sheriffs deputies in santa cruz interviewed him about an alleged sexual encounter at a nearby resort. sandoval's attorney says the sex was consensual. the giants refuse to comment on the allegations. when asked about fan reaction last night, sandoval just shook his head. a house fire in san jose early this morning injured an elderly man and killed his pet. at 3:00 a.m., neighbors reported the fire on the 2000 block of king street. firefighters found the victim and took him to the hospital. he is expected to recover, but his dog was killed. flames and heavy smoke damage made the home unfit to live in.

the cause remains under investigation tonight, but investigators say it appears it started by accident in the kitchen. a berkeley man rescued his 92-year-old grandmother early this morning, after fire broke out in his home. the fire was reported just after midnight at a home near prince and beacon streets in berkeley. it's believed the fire started on the first floor and spread to the second floor, where curtis harrison's grandmother was sleeping. harrison says he ran upstairs, picked her up and carried her out. he believes an electrical outlet may have been overloaded. the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. power has been restored to a brisbane neighborhood, where a downed power line may have sparked a grass fire. the fire started around 1:30 yesterday afternoon on san bruno mountaineer bayshore boulevard. the fire burned about 10 acres and knocked out power to more than 1300 customers. it took about 3 hours to get the fire under control. nobody was hurt. vallejo police tonight are looking for the gunman who opened fire at a park last night, killing one person and

injuring three others. christian captain spoke late this afternoon with an investigator who gave him details about that deadly drive-by shooting. >> reporter: investigators say the shooting started shortly before 8:15 saturday evening. witnesses say a gunman opened fire at a group gathered for a barbecue in decrees ranch park in northern vallejo. >> they were at the park and a black male in a dark vehicle, that's who was described as the shooter, opened fire and shot all four people. >> reporter: in all, four victims made it to area hospitals on their own. the 56-year-old man died from his wounds. a 17-year-old boy is in critical condition. a 67-year-old woman was upgraded from critical to stable condition today and a 35-year-old man was shot in the arm. investigators say they are not who you would expect to be the target of a shooting. >> it's tragic any time anyone is shot. but this one is especially bad when you have a 57-year-old guy that's killed, a 67-year-old woman, a child, you know.

it shows disregard on the part of the shooter. >> reporter: this morning, items from the barbecue were still scattered in the park. neighbors say the party began early yesterday and carried on into the evening. that is when the shooting broke out. witnesses say first, a short series of shots, a pause, then more shots. police and neighbors say that kind of violence is unusual for crest ranch park. >> i'm surprised. i'm surprised, because like i told you, nothing happened. i live here for a year and it's the first time. >> reporter: vallejo police are still looking for witnesses and they are asking anyone with information about this case to come forward. in vallejo, christian captain, ktvu channel 2news. in oakland, two people are in stable condition today after a shooting last night. the man and woman were on broadway near 14th street around 9:30 when an unknown gunman shot at them. the man was hit in the leg and the woman was hit in the chest. both of the victims were hospitalized. police questioned witnesses at

the scene, but no arrests have been made. authorities in contra costa county are investigating a deadly motorcycle accident today. it happened just after 2:00 this afternoon on bear creek road near pierre road near martinez. officers on the scene say it appears the motorcycle driver lost control of the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene. no other vehicles were involved. the identity of the motorcycle drier driver has not been released. the highway patrol says a suspected dui driver crashed into a utility pole in san leandro this morning. the accident happened around 2:40 this morning, around east 14th street and 163rd avenue. the chp says a woman drove into the pool, knocking it back about 10 feet and off its foundation. nobody was hurt. the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. pg&e crews arrived at the scene to start work on replacing that pole. a small earthquake struck the south bay today. the 3.5 hit about 10:31 this morning. according to the u.s. geological

survey, the epicenter was 9 miles north of morgan hill and 15 miles east-southeast of san jose. no damage was reported. seismologists say the calaveras fault, while active, tends to creep at the same rate it slips each year, limiting the seismic impacts. the last sizable quake was 1984, when a 6.2 quake shook the area. pleasant day around the bay area. lots of sunshine out there. mark is in the weather center to tell us, really, rain possibly coming our way? >> yeah, we were questioning it maybe a few days ago. latest forecast models converging toward a solution, including some rain drops. heading into your monday, right now on live storm tracker 2, here's already a good sign with rain not here, but up to our north, up along the north coast, around eureka, crescent city. that will be approaching the bay area, as we head into monday morning. temperatures currently, cooled off, cooled off quite a bit over the past couple of days. currently warmest locations in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. san francisco, 60. san jose, in the lower 70s.

judge revoked his bail. zimmerman surrendered to police afternoon. he faces trial for the murder of black teenager trayvon martin. last week, the judge found george zimmerman lied about how much money he had, so zimmerman could get a lower bail. his attorney says zimmerman was afraid to come out of hiding. >> he's solemn, obviously. he's worried continually about his safety, having to come out of hiding is a concern of his. >> the attorney says he plans to ask for another bail hearing, but at this point, the judge has not set a date. when his bail was set, zimmerman said he had limited funds. then it was learned he had raised $135,000 through a website set up for his defense. his attorney insisted there was no deceit. the former assistant football coach of penn state, jerry sandusky, goes to trial on tuesday. he is charged with sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years. sandusky insists he is not guilty. legal analysts say the case will likely hinge on the credibility

and what we're finding is it's particularly para influence sai. >> vets have seen close to 20 cases in just the last week. a few cases developed into pneumonia. they have closed their boarding facility. >> we're shutting down for two weeks, bleaching the heck out of everything. we've got an isolation ward, where we've got several dogs that are sick. >> reporter: the medical director says several other clinics in the area are finding the same problem. symptoms include a lot of sneezing, nasal discharge and a gagging cough. she says it's highly contagious. the virus can linger for several hours. >> if there isn't enough time for the virus to really die, you'll go walking right after someone, with someone where their sick dog has gone. you're likely to have your dog pick it up there. >> reporter: so when you're walking your dog, avoid any nose-to-nose contact with other dogs. also, be careful where they are sniffing. and as nice as it feels outdoors

right now, the vet suggests staying away from dog parks, grooming facilities, and social events for a few weeks. >> just be more conscientious of where we bring them. >> reporter: that's a good idea, because the doctor says this strain even affects dogs that are up to date on all their vaccines. in richmond, lorain blanco, ktvu channel 2news. heads-up now for santa rosa residents. the downtown transit mall has moved. today, the transit mall on second street between b street and santa rosa avenue was closed for a major renovation project. and the temporary transit mall opened on first street between d street and santa rosa avenue. the mall is the hub for bus service. the new mall is estimated to re-open sometime between august and october. speaking of transit, muni's line is scheduled to be back in service tomorrow after an 11-day closure. construction crews began work on the line on may 25th to improve the rail lines, sidewalks and underground infrastructure. a muni spokesman says all the work is running on schedule.

the line is on track to be back up and running at 5:00 tomorrow morning. starting tomorrow, a new ferry service will be launched on san francisco bay, the first time since 1992. it will run from jack lennon square in oakland and main street in alameda in the east boy to oyster point marina boulevard in south san francisco. the ferries will operate only on weekdays. the goal is to offer an alternative for people who commute between the east bay and the peninsula. and there is an extra incentive. rides will be free for the first week. people in hollywood and all over the world say good-bye to a popular former game show host. also, people in the bay area rally for peace, the spiritual event meant to raise awareness of the sikh culture. syria's president speaks out to his newly elected parliament. the international conspiracy he says his country faces and who he says is responsible for last week's deadly masacre. >> it's a historic thing, something we can do together. >> and the celebration in the streets of london, as the

housing units at page mill road. harold hoe back wants to put them on top of a large commercial building he is planning. the city council rejected that plan last october and wants the project next to the california avenue caltrain station. hoe back refuses to do that and is asking for a yes or no vote. antioch city leaders are stepping up efforts to try to get rid of neighborhood blight. the city wants to bring back code enforcement, after a recent rise in people squatting in vacant homes. but the city couldn't find anyone to take the code enforcement job, so it hired an outside firm to try to address the issue. once a contract is signed, the city hopes to have the properties cleaned up. this weekend marks the 15th anniversary of a deadly accident at an east bay water park. back on june 2nd, 1997, one of the slides at water world in concord failed, leaving one high school student dead and 30 others injured. 18-year-old napa high school

student quinn gilati died after falling 40 feet from the slide. most of the victims were students from napa high school. officials say they overloaded that slide when they all tried to ride it at once. the battleship uss iowa is now docked at its home port in san pedro in southern california, getting a new life as an interactive museum, opening up on july 7th. during its service in world war ii, the iowa was called the big stick, also saw duty during the korean war. after it was decommissioned in 1989, it was part of the moth ball fleet. volunteers restored the ship and last saturday it left the bay area for los angeles. i had to read this story a couple of times, but new research suggests that exercise could actually be bad for you. the new study found that some people react negatively to physical activity, raising their risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high insulin levels. scientists aren't sure of the reasoning behind this and say more research is needed to find the cause of the negative side

effects. but they say despite the findings, people should keep in mind the overall benefits of exercise. male office dwellers are apparently not very tidy. researchers looked at offices in new york, san francisco and tucson and they found desks and cubicles occupied by men teeming with bacteria. the study checked five surfaces, chairs, desktops, phones, computer mice, and keyboards and researchers found there was 10 to 20% more bacteria in men's offices than in women's offices. >> i am shocked. in about two hours, you can bid to have lunch with warren buffett. once again, the oracle of omaha will offer a chat and a fine meal, all to help raise money for san francisco's glide memorial church. last year, the winner paid $2.6 million and change. buffett is, of course, one of the world's most successful investors and now something of a lightning rod for favoring higher taxes on the rich. bidding starts at 7:30 on ebay. it ends on friday.

that's 105 years from now. you can't look at the sun directly, but you can look at it projected on paper, through a telescope, and you can also check it out online when nasa streams it live on the internet. well, before venus' big event, the moon will also put on a show. the moon will go into the earth's shadow at 2:00 a.m. to produce a partial eclipse with a peak at 4:00 a.m. you can watch the eclipse with others on the observatory deck at oakland space and science center. astronomers say it's no accident the solar eclipse was a few weeks ago. a lunar eclipse always precedes or follows a solar eclipse by two weeks. with all of these things happening in the sky and the threat of rain, we're wondering, mark, if we'll be able to go outside and see any of this stuff. >> of course i'm the one to bring the bad news. we do have lots of clear skies out there right now, but high clouds have been on the increase and those high clouds associated with the weather system, fairly strong for this time of year. those clouds will be spilling into the region and that will obscure the skies early tomorrow morning. if you want to wake up early

tomorrow morning, take a step outside and you might get a break in the clouds. unfortunately, big cloud deck approaching the region. here's the timing once again of the partial lunar eclipse monday morning. it begins at 4:03 with the moon 37% covered, partial eclipse ending at 5:06. speaking of the rain showers here, you can pick out the rain up to our north, up along the north coast, right around cape mendocino, around fort bragg and all this action does slide to the south heading into early, very early monday morning. for tonight, we do have increasing clouds. tomorrow, a major, major drop-off in temperatures in rain. it's june and we're still talking rain showers, so basically a one-day deal for tomorrow. then the extended, we'll gradually warm up those numbers. as far as highs from today, we have been cooling off a bit, so we can see no more 90s. basically same as yesterday, 80s toward concord, antioch and livermore.

san jose, upper 70s, around 78 degrees. this satellite i probably showed you in january and february, but this is the current image and this will bring us major cooling and also we bump up the rain chances. here's the eventual track into tomorrow. temperatures for tomorrow easily down a good 10 to 15 degrees in a few spots. that means the warmest locations in the upper 60s and rainfall expectations could range from a few hundredths of an inch to half inch in the north bay coastal hills and winds crank up as well. could be from around 20 to 25 miles an hour. here's our forecast model and of course we're dry right now. we'll take this into tomorrow morning and for the morning commute at 6:00, we bump up those rain chances, especially in the north bay, beginning to approach the golden gate bridge. look at this, by 10:00, light to moderate downpours heading to the south in the early portion of the afternoon. then spotty activity as we do head into the afternoon hours. but with that, we'll have sunshine, clouds, even a slight

gave indications that tiger woods may have his game in shape again. woods began the memorial in ohio 4 shots off the lead, when he made this long birdie putt on the 6th today, had pulled within two strokes. third round leader spencer lavine with the 75, became a two-man battle between woods and sabbatini. sabbatini with his tee shot on the 12th, stops within the battle of the flag. he led woods by a stroke. now on the par 3-16, woods looks to be in trouble in the tall rough. watch how this chip turns out. this will go down as one of woods' signature shots, as it rolls in for birdie and a one-stroke lead. sabbatini bogeyed 16 and fell back. that made woods birdie at 18 a dramatic, but unnecessary finale. woods tied nicolas for all-time wins in this tournament. that is jack, number of 73 all
