to take -- >> one year ago san francisco picked up an inch and a quarter of rain. we will not see that much today. it does look like light rain is inching closer. it's been delayed a little bit. even if you don't get rain it will be cool and cloudy with temperatures in the 60s. here is sal. >> steve, good morning. this is a look at news chopper 2. we will talk about this fire in just a moment. we have some more information about this. but it's on fairway street in hayward. and coming up dave and pam have more information on that. this is a look at westbound bay bridge. boy that weather that steve talked about is getting here now. it could be a problem for the morning commute. let's go back to the desk. all right, sal. back to that morning development. news chopper 2 very busy. it's over the scene of this a garage fire. this is on fairway street right near the hayward golf course. fire started an hour ago. they have put the fire out but look at the damage it caused.

when they first arrived they had to deal with live power lines before pg&e came to take them all and shut them down. firefighters are still in the area at the scene investigating the cause. luckily no one was hurt. ? just about 20 minutes from now a new ferry service begins with the first boat taking passengers from alameda to ocean point. christien kafton is at the terminal. he has new information about this system including a special deal this week. >> reporter: yeah a great deal for passengers. san francisco bay ferry is about to start its new service. you can see folks here lining up for that ride this morning. between the east bay and south san francisco. one of the new ferry terminals right here in alameda. the new ferry service starts today. and includes from east bay to oyster point in san francisco.

the arrive will take about 50 minutes from alameda and 40 minutes from oakland. it's already being built as a far less stressful commute. the ferries will include free wi-fi, food, and a bar and dock at the new $26 million ferry terminal in south san francisco. the standard fare is about $7. as dave told you there is a special offer this week. it will be free for this week for riders as the authority works out any kings in the system and again they are obviously trying to promote this new service right now. so the big benefit of course for folks is getting to avoid the traffic on the bridge. so they are saying this will be a much, much better alternative to your standard commute. we will continue to monitor the situation out here and bring you the first trip out. for now we are live in alameda i'm christien kafton. right now santa clara county sheriffs divers are on

the way to the uvas reservoir to search for sierra lamar's body. the suspect charged with sierra's kidnapping and murder reportedly went fishing at the reservoir at the day after the teenager disappeared. sheriffs officials tell us they will be out there after 5:00 tonight. >> there is a lot of images we took with the sonar. we will go back and take a look at the images and put spots down on the river to dive down. >> we have a crew heading to the reservoir this morning and coming up at 6:45 we will take you there live for the report from the search site. developing news a strong earthquake has rocked indonesia again this morning. tall buildings were swaying. it was a magnitude 6.1 quake. no tsunami warning issued with this quake. so far there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. but indonesia does have earthquakes frequently. it has several fault lines and

volcanos. back here at home sentencing today for a man convicted of killing a san francisco father and two of his sons. edwin ramos was convicted of three counts of murder. he shot and killed anthony and his two sons back in 2008 after mistaking them for gang members. ramos faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. the man accused of killing florida teenager trayvon martin is back in jail after he turned himself in. coming up in 11 minutes why lawyers say his revoked bond may create a challenge for his defense. police in vallejo are silking for the gunman that shot four people in the park killing one of them. meantime the woman that was bounded is getting better. a 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition.

you wouldn't expect them to be targets of a shooting. >> and it's tragic any time anyone is shot. yo you it shows disarray on part of the shooter. >> another man was shot in the arm. 605. almost 50 cars have been broken into. now the police think they have caught the criminals that deit. three men and a juvenile were arrested yes. and they followed as is pushous soak. they found burglary tools inside their car. the four are accused of burglarizing cars at hotels and restaurants. more air tankers and firefighters are being sent to sequoia national forest. the u.s. forest service says the fire has doubled in size

burning more than 1,000 acres. it started friday afternoon with winds spreading flames across control lines. 250 firefighters are battling that fire with more help expected to arrive today. 6:06. best of my recollectionly man credited with -- berkeley man credited with rescuing his grandmother from a building building is being honored today. curtis march risesson said when -- harrison said when he realized the house was on fire he ran to the second floor where his grandmother was asleep. he picked her up and carried her out. and a downed power line may have been the cause of a grass fire in brisbane. this started at 1:30 sat afternoon on san bruno mountain. it burned at least ten acres and knocked out power to more than 1300 customers. amateur as strong hers from around the bay -- astronomers

spent the night in the bay area. they were watching the lunar eclipse from the she boy space center -- chabot space center. if you missed this one, there will be another partial eclipse visible here in november. and tomorrow there is a much more rare astronomical event. take a look at that. starting shortly after 3:00 tomorrow afternoon you should be able to see the beginning of what is called the transit of venus. it will take nearly several hours. the last one happened eight years ago. the -- san francisco busy n-judah muni line is back in service. the work included track repairs, as well as upgrades to the sidewalks and the under ground infrastructure.

nigeria. everyone on board and at least ten people on the ground were killed. the crews and some of the frantic locals on the ground still sifting through the rubble of billings trying to find possible survivors. airline officials say the plane did have engine trouble before it went down. the president of nigeria has declared three days of national mourning for the victims. syria's president is condemning the mass killing in in their country even though human rights groups say he is to blame. alison burns is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with national address and how world leaders are responding. >> reporter: pam, syria's president said monsters couldn't carry out such abominable acts. even though they say prohew sad forces are responsible for the deaths this weekend and massacre of women and children last weekend. assad is blaming an

victims say they want the chinese government to say more about what happened. so far the government has not issued an official account of the events. also the official death toll is still not made known to the public. george zimmerman's attorney will ask the judge for a new bond hearing today one day after he turned himself in. zimmerman who is accused of killing florida teenager trayvon martin had been in hiding. he turned himself in yesterday two days after the judge revoke his bond. the judge said he lied about how much money he had access to when he was freed on bond in april. zimmerman's attorney acknowledged it could hurt his clients credibility. >> it's a credibility question with mr. zimmerman. now that credibility has been attacked or tornishes. >> reporter: shimmery on's attorney hopes his clients voluntary surrender is not a

flight risk. this one involves two hollywood stars. act stress steven baldwin is suing actor kevin costner. this is over an investment in a device that will clean up the 2010 bp gulf oil spill. the lawsuit claims that ken costner duped baldwin out of his shares for an $18 million share. both of the actors are expected to testify. in election news this morning, voters head to the polls tomorrow for california's primary. senator dianne feinstein is seeking reelection. voters will also decide the fate of prop 29. which would include a $1 per pack cigarette tax. also on the ballot an initiative limiting the states legislative term limit.

tuesday's primary is the first test of the top candidates will advance to the november election recordless of property. presidential and county races remain a classic primary with one winner for each party. 6:18. governor jerry brown has declared the month of june as lesbian, gay, bisexual pride month. in the statement he said even though more process is needed it's important to celebrate the games. california's ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional. also president obama's new support for same sex marriage. now this comes just in time for san francisco's pride celebration which begins june 23rd. 6:19 is the time. let's check back in with sal for a look at traffic. what do you keep on eye on? >> all the commutes that start

in contra costa county. looking at highway 4 westbound. traffic is moving along relatively well. here comes bart. bart is doing okay. starting off the morning on time. just a little bit of sun peeking through but not a lot. you may have to deal with a commute that is not to your liking as you get closer to the bay bridge. in fact let's go there now. you will see it's dark and could see drizzle out there. had some scattered reports. your driving may be effected this may be the morning to give yourself the extra ten minutes if you can spare it. also the morning commute looks good. across the bay highway 101 and 280 looking good for for more on the weather let's bring in steve. >> all right. thank you. we do have reports of drizzle. ron says some drizzle started there. so our system is moving in mostly cloudy skies. cloudy almost every observation says cloudy now. our system is inching closer and enhancing a little bit. slowed down. it's also developing a system within the system to keep it

going. even though it slowed down you can see everything is marching in. rain is started here. 50s on the temps or low, low 60s. our system is not a whopper but for this time of year it's okay. it's there. it will give us a well below average day. clouds and rain develop. cooler for all. the wind will pick up here. giants i know game four here against the cubs. and does look like cloudy skies with light rain. at least they will get it in. the game could be delayed a little bit. clearing, breezy on tuesday. thursday increasing clouds. most of that will stay to the north. that does give us a cool down on friday. your weekend is looking better. breezy but temperatures warming up. >> thank you. before you plug in that coffee maker this morning, check the lake. black and decker is recalling nearly 160,000 of its 12 cup under the counter space maker coffee maker. the company says it has had almost 1300 reports of the

some of the commutes. chp marin on twitter reported it was raining in court ma terra so drive accordingly. use the headlights. it's state law to have the headlights on when wipers are on. there are scary moments for people watching an air show near san diego. restored world war ii plane was about to run on the runway but the landing gear was not locked in place. so the plane ended up skidding off the runway and on to the grassy sideline there is. there is a photo. no one was hurt including the pilot. he looked at the damage to the plane and said it could all be fixed. 6:26. united airlines no longer operates out of oakland international airport. it made its final departure yesterday. there was this. the ceremonial water cannon salute for that flight. outed served oak -- united served oakland for the last 85 years but had to cut because of

financial issues. >> so many of my personal lifish changes have happened on this airline when i got my degree. when i traveled for my business. but i will miss them. >> if you booked your tickets in advanced out of oakland, you will be rerouted through san francisco. as for oakland based united employees the airline says most of them are being transferred to san francisco or san jose airports. starting today the department of agricultural is expanding the search for dangerous bacteria in meat. this will include extra testing for six additional strains of e. coli. right now there are more than 700 strains of the bacteria. most are harmless. some can cause serious health problems. if the meat is found to be contaminated it will not be allowed to be sold. pablo sandoval. we are new information on the events leading up to the sexual assault accusations against him. >> dozens of students may not

it's monday, june 4th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm pam cook. half an hour from now bay area high school students will issue a public apology for senior prank that got out of control. paul chambers joins us now from brentwood. some of the students might have to skip graduation it sounds like. >> that is right. the ceremony might be canceled for many of the students because of what they did. i will tell you school officials say they went too far. but students hope a rally plan to hold ear and their willingness to will be done. it ended up snowballing with way too many people here and people doing things that weren't just leaving footprints which was what their intent was. >> now take a look for yourself. these pictures from thursday night show how paint on a students feet ended up on the ground in the schools campus. it was meant to symbolize the

footsteps left behind for the graduating class but they left behind a sheep chained on campus, and obscenity banners. >> it's okay to enjoy the time in high school but it's not okay to do anything that will deface the school campus. >> it wasn't supposed to be bad. it was harmless. that's why we used washable paint. >> reporter: and yesterday many students came back to clean up that washable paint and the mess they left behind. so far about ten students have been suspended for finals week. another 25 questioned. the principal says dozens more could be punished. once again schools start at 8:15 this morning. they are supposed to have a rally before that. we'll be here live covering that. live in brentwood i'm paul chambers. newly renovated parks in san francisco have been vandalized. kellior race -- deloris park is one of those now marked with

graffiti. look at that a beautiful playground that just opened up in march. at dubois park the new children's playground has been hit with graffiti. it has cost the city more than $150,000 so far this year. police in stockton searching for the gunman that kill a jewelry vendor at a flea market. he was shot right in front of his family saturday morning. he was unloading jewelry from his truck. he was very well known at that flea market. investigators believe he was targeted for robbery because of the jewelry he sold. >> out of nowhere we saw four to five guys with masks and with heavy clothing on with long rifles. >> the suspects were definitely very brazen. very violent because this happened in front of the victims family. >> police say the robbers also stole his car. he was found abandoned a half mile from where he was shot. vallejo police say someone left a mysterious bone on their

doorstep. it was found yesterday morning outside the police station. they will send the bone to the coroners office to determine if it's human. if it is they will start an investigation. 6:33. san francisco mayor ed lee has filed a court order. he wants to get suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi's phone calls, e-mails, and text messages. him and his campaign member exchanged text messages the new years after he bruised his wife's arm. he is accused of having his campaign owner trying to prevent his wife and neighbor from going to the police. both deny the allegations. mirkarimi's ethics hearing will begin on june 19th. we are hearing from a witness that saw pablo sandoval just before a woman accused him of rape. santa cruz bar manager told the mercury news that he was friendly, socialized with fans and didn't leave with any

women. three hours later she told police that he raped her. sandoval's attorney says the sex was consensual. 6:34. still no word on what caused a grass fire near the pittsburgh- antioch border. the fire burned in a pasture right off buchanon road. started at 7:30 last night. they put it out within an hour. firefighters say about 25 acres burned. it came pretty close to some homes but no buildings were damaged. also an effort to help control a big forest fire in utah took a deadly turn. coming up in ten minutes from now the tragic accident that has both the fire and aviation communities in mourning today. a proposed budget will be submitted to the alameda county board of supervisors tomorrow. alameda county is facing an $88 million budget short fall and today a group will -- a work

group that is will meet in oakland to discuss options for closing the deficit. supervisors have until june 22nd to approve a final budget for the 2012, 2013 fiscal year. right now we are waiting for the first ferry to oyster point to leave alameda. ktvu is christien kafton is out there talking to passengers about the brand new service that will link the east bay to south san francisco. i'm trying to find you. how is it going out there? >> reporter: it's going really well, actually. a little bit of a drizzle here but didn't stop the damp in the enthusiasm of some of the commuters. this is the ferry dock. you can see a big cargo ship. that is the same channel that the ferry was in. they were docked up a couple minutes ago. the last two or three minutes they took off. departed from alameda. the new ferry service starts today and includes new service between the east bay and peninsula from here in alameda

from work. christien kafton ktvu channel 2 news. >> that will be cool. i want to see inside that new ferry. nice. unfortunately sal has a crash on the peninsula. >> that is right. it's northbound 101 near pacific. i want to take you to the maps and show you northbound 101. it's getting a little slower up toward pacifica. a lot of people use highway 1 to get into the main part of the san francisco daily city. and this crash is going to make it a little slower. across the bay in the east bay 580 westbound near spring town there is a crash there. so if you are coming in from the altamont pass or tracy to livermore this morning will be extra slow. we have report of a crash in the northeast bay as you move the maps all the way up. east 80 we do have a crash reported right near travis boulevard. so watch for slow traffic in this area. also a lot of slow traffic westbound at this time. 6:38 let's go out to the bay

-- altamont pass. let's go to some live pictures westbound 237 already some stop and go traffic. so so much for it being lighter than usual in summer. well it's not technically summer so we'll see what happens after it's technically summer. right now it's not looking great. and this morning on interstate 880 that traffic looks okay. it's kind of like a winter morning here. if you use your windshield wipers state law says you have to have the headlights on. cloudy, fog system is moving in. it will give us light rain starting in the north. it will move in in the next couple of hours. cloudy cool day with light rain and clear it out late today and tomorrow. slow down a little bit but it's definitely moving in. temperatures yesterday in advance of this system they warmed up. a lot of 80s. today temperatures will come down a little bit. they will be in the 60s almost for everybody.
