heritage high school. here's paul chambers with more. paul? >> reporter: the windows behind here, there's a lot of graffiti written on here "2010" but to give us more information about this, we have the principal. talk to us about this. you say this has been gone too far, possibly crime. >> absolutely. it crossed the line from a prank to vandalism. when you have so much paint, when you have an animal tied down in large chains in distress. it took animal control to release it. and when you have 500-pound concrete bench moved around campus, when you have school property damaged and remove and stolen, vandalism flags that we were able to recover.

some are still missing. so you combine -- and then have you a speaker blasting around school saying i don't give a "blank-blank." i'm a senior "and you see the entear campus has been vandalized. a lot of paint and graffiti, all over the windows, everything you mentionedded a minute ago happened overnight. the kids were out here yesterday, cleaning up, i know, you say the possible remorse was going to possibly sway you. but you saw more today. >> coming to work today, i see a lot more. >> reporter: we have had ten students suspended. i know there will be a rally in a few minutes saying, hey, i'm sorry. will that work this. >> well, that's gonna be a tough one. a lot of new information came in, some remorse. some are quite genuine. however, we also see on social

media there are postings by some of the students who show remarks on the social media are saying something differently. in fact, some are harassment and threatening and some about snitching. >> reporter: thank you. i will be talking to you in a few more minutes. more graffiti, i saw tons of graffiti. a lot of kids, he also said, were on social media saying they were gonna harass and get the students who snitched. there were already ten students suspended. he talked about possibly showing remorse and we'll talk to those students who will be holding a rally as well. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, paul. an update from hayward. we're now hearing from a neighbor whose house caught fire. around 5:00 a.m., firefighters were called to a house.

they managed to get the flames under control. the garage was badly damaged. and when firefighters arrived, they found down power lines. neighbors say they think this is what caught the fire. >> it went to the garage. it was popping and sparking. when we came outside, it was still parking. loud pops. >> no one was injured in the fire and there are no reports of power outages. >> more air tankers are being sent to sequoia, northeast of bakersfield, where a large wildfire is burning. the u.s. forest service says the wildfire has doubled in size. it started friday afternoon. 250 firefighters are battling the flames with more help expected today. no word on how the fire started. if you weren't up really

3:00 a.m. tomorrow afternoon. you should be able to see the start of what's called the transit of venus. it will take lom seven hours to see what looks like a small, dark -- -- do the starting across the --dot starting a --dot darting across the sun. right now, the hotel on gateway police near highway 101, workers walked off the job earlier this morning. they say they are angry about what they call long-term wage freezes as well as bad healthcare. they claim the hotel's owner is making millions in profits and should be treated fairly. this comes 11 months after gorations and is -- negotiations and is expected to continue in until friday. right now oyster point is

running. we were there when the first boat left alameda about 30 minutes ago on its way to south san francisco. christien kafton is at the main street terminal with more on the new route and the special deal passengers are getting. >> reporter: yeah, that special deal has certainly encouraged some people to come out and try this. if you ever had to take that commute through the bay area's bridges and roadways, the ferry might sound like a pretty good option. we watched about a half-hour ago as the first ferry departed to south san francisco. the new ferry service starts today and includes new service between the east bay and the peninsula and another stop in oakland. the ferries's ride -- the ferry's ride takes about 30 minutes from oakland.

cloudy skies, it will be a cool, cool day. light rain will give way to mostly cloudy skies later this afternoon. an american pilot believed to be of 163 people killed in a horrible plane crash in nigeria. it went down in lagos, nigeria. everyone on board and at least ten people on the board died. emergency workers fought fires, they sifted through the rubble overnight hoping to find possible survivors. airline officials say the engine had plane trouble before it crashed. the president has declared three days of national mourning for the victims. we have developing news coming in right now. militiamen have taken control of the tripoli airport in libya. it just happened. reportedly, they are diverting flights now.

forthcoming about what happened 23 years ago. so far the government has not issued an official account of the event and the official death toll is still not known to the public. in florida, george zimmerman's lawyer will ask a judge for a new bond hearing for zimmerman one day after he turned himself in. zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer accused of killing florida teenager, trayvon martin, had been in hiding. he turned himself in yesterday, two days after a judge revoked his bond. the judge said zimmerman lied about how much money he had access to when he was freed on bond back in april. zimmerman's lawyer admitted this could hurt his client's credibility. >> it's a credibility question with mr. zimmerman and now that credibility has been attacked or tarnished and now he's gonna have to rehabilitate it. >> zimm's lawyer says he hopes his client's voluntary sur tren

california's primary. senator dianne feinstein is seeking reelection along with nancy pelosi, barbara lee and mike honda. voters will decide the fate of prop 29 which would impose a $1 per pack cigarette tax to fund cancer research. the pools show this is -- polls show this is a close race. and tuesday, tomorrow's primary is the first test of california's new top two system. the top two candidates for congress and for state offices will advance to the november election regardless of party. districts have been redrawn which could produce more moderate candidates. presidential and county races remain a classic primary with one winner for each party. 7:20. president obama is coming back here to the bay area this week for more fund-raising. he will be arriving on

more than 300 mormon church members are being chanked by the -- are being thanked by the gay community. yesterday, members of mormon's building bridges walked in salt lake city city's gay pride parade -- salt lake city's gay pride parade. people there who are gay say it's hard living in utah because of the strict anti-gay mormon beliefs and this was a touching sight. an airshow pilot was able to walk away from his badly damaged plane after an accident near san diego. a restored world war ii plane was about to land on the runway, but the landing gear was not locked in place. so the plane ended up skidding on the runway. no one was hurt, including the pilot, who said the plane can be restored. certainly lucky there. >> yeah. all right, tori. 7:22. expect a change in our weather

starting today, the department of the agriculture is expanding the search for dangerous bacteria in meat. this will include extra testing for six additional strains of e. coli. currently, there are more than 700 strains of the bacteria, most are harmless but some can cause serious health problems. if the meat is found to be contaminated, it will not allowed to be sold and could be subject to a recall.

7:30. search boths are now in the reservoir this morning as authorities look for clues in the sierra lamar case. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from morgan hill with what the sheriff's team will be focusing on today. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. that's -- that's right. they will be launching the boats into the water and actually looking about 9:00. there is a crew of about a dozen people and many -- all of them, in fact, at some point throughout the day will be diving 60 feet down searching the murky waters for sierra lamar. now, we caught one them as they were launching one of those boats down the ramp there. there are four watercraft total. one a raft-like boat, another equipped with sonar and a couple of kye ax. there were a few -- kayaks. there were a few images detected but they didn't get a closer look. this morning they will be down there groping for clues. >> we've been working on this

board right -- a look at the big board right now. the dow is down 36 points. i can also tell you that the nasdaq is down 1. s&p down 4. we're live from the nasdaq this morning with details about congressional hearings later this week that could have an impact on fiscal policy. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tori. the story today, caution, caution, caution. we have worries about global uncertainty surrounding the europe's debt crisis. we don't have a lot on the economic or corporate calendar. everyone is watching this. one strategist says that europe is front and enter. there's actually not a lot of change from the start of trading. it looks like nasdaq, the dow and s&p just down slightly. nasdaq is flat. in terms of what's ahead. in addition to europe, investors will be paying close attention to the government's weekly report on new claims for

gang members. he faces a life in prison sentence without the possibility of parole. one of the surviving victims of a shooting in a park is improving in the hospital. however, the ga gunman is still -- the gunman is still on the loose. one victim was upgreated from -- upgraded from critical to stable. a 17-year-old boy is still in critical condition. one man has died. another was shot in the arm. >> it's tragic any time anyone is shot. but this one is especially bad when you have a 57-year-old guy that's killed, a 67-year-old woman, a child, it shows disregard on the part of the shooter. residents say this kind of violence, very unusual for this park. police in vallejo are looking for witnesses and they are asking you if you have information to come forward in the case. stockton police are searching for the gunman who

killed a 74-year-old jewelry vendor at a flee market. he was shot in front of his family saturday morning as he unloaded -- flea market. he was shot in front of his family saturday morning as he unloaded his mart. investigators believe he was targeted because he sold jewelry. >> after the shooting, the suspects stole his car. >> police say his car was found abandoned about a half-mile from where he was shot. the victims of saturday's shootings in downtown oakland are expected to survive. a man and a woman were shot around 9:30 on saturday night on broadway near 13th. initial reports indicated the woman had been shot in the chest. the man was shot in the leg. police say it appears both are in stable condition. police are have not released any information on a motive. once detectives in santa

stocks slipping marginally lower as.com returns to global markets. companies, though, placed fewer orders to u.s. factories for the second straight month. that economic report just coming in this morning. the dow is currently down 21, 12,097. the nasdaq is actually -- has actually turned around to 3. the s&p is down 3. the price of crude oil hovering around $82 a barrel. that's down more than 1% from friday's close. uncertainty over european debt is the reason for the decline concerns. the national average for gas is $3.57 for a gallon of regular. that's down 20 cents from one month ago. but here on the west coast, we're still feeling the pinch from some refineries being offline. san francisco drivers are

of street lights in san francisco. some people have complained about broken street lights and delays in getting them fixed. city leaders and representatives were pg&e will talk about plans to improve the system of fixing the lights. the hearing will start at 10:00 this morning at city hall. hundreds of b.a.r.t. commuters had to take the stairs last week because of broken escalators at b.a.r.t. stations. "the chronicle "reports many were at stations in downtown san francisco and some have been broken for months. in all, b.a.r.t. has 179 escalators. a b.a.r.t. repair manager says the agency is having a hard time keeping one aging equipment and wear and tear. 8:05. well, this morning, a new ferry service is running from the east way to the south san francisco. christien kafton has been at the alameda main street terminal street since 6:00 this morning. you've been out there and you know what the passengers can expect today. what do you think?

>> reporter: yeah, we have a pretty good idea what the passengers can expect and also a special deal. you can see the ferry back in port after completing its first round-trip from mead to south -- alameda to south san francisco. let's show you some video of what it looks like and what it looked like for the first trip. the new ferry service started today. it includes new service between the east bay and the peninsula from here on alameda and in oakland onistert point to san francisco. the ride takes about 50 points from alameda and about 40 minutes from oak. it's already being billed as a far less stressful option. those areas include free wi-fi, food, beverages, even a bar and they will dock at a new $26 million ferry terminal in south san francisco. punishes told us they hope to make this a regular part their

the search for clues in the sierra lamar case resumed this morning. tara moriarty is joining us live from morgan hill to tell us what the sheriff avenue dive team is doing now. >> reporter: well, you know, divers told us this morning they've scoured more than 40 pounds since the beginning of this investigation. that doesn't even include all of the area reservoirses. right now -- reservoirs. right now, divers are headed into the yubis russer voyeur. ewe -- yubis reservoir. the water is cold, about 55 degrees and marcy with zero -- murky with zero visibility at times. divers have said they've been blind searching for clues but despite the tough conditions,

you know. about 5:00 a.m., firefighters rushed to this house on fairway street. the flames were contained to that detached garage you see there. firefighters quickly got it under control. but when the firefighters arrived, they found downed power lines at the house. pg&e crews had to be called in to turn the power off. some of the neighbors say they think that's what's -- that's what sparked the fire. >> they went to the garage, it was parking and -- sparking and popping. when we came out, it was still popping, cloud pops. a wildfire burning in the sequoia national forest has grown to 1600 acres according to brand-new numbers out this morning from the forest service. it's burning northeast of bakersfield. it started friday afternoon when winds spreading flames right across control lines. more air tankers and firefighters are expected to be out there today to help bring

it will take a small dark dot gliding across the face of the sun. the next one won't be until 2017. >> all right, tori. 8:32. well, the victims of saturday's shooting in downtown oakland are expected to survive. a man and a woman were shot about 9:30 on saturday night on broadway. the first report said the woman had been shot in the chest and the man was shot in the leg. the police are saying it appears both are in stable condition. we have no information on a suspect or a possible motive. today is sentencing day for the man convicted of killing a san francisco father and two of his sons. edwin ramos was convicted of three counts of murder last month. prosecutors say he shot and killed anthony bologna and his two sons in 2008 after mistaking them for gang members. ramos faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the
