police right now searching for a killer after a deadly overnight shooting in east palo alto. a man injured in a police shooting in oakland. what witnesses tell us happened just before an officer opened fire. >> reporter: and are we getting gouged at the gas pump? we'll tell you about one senator's investigation into local refineries. a power outage, a fire, and a gas leak. how all of those problems were sparked by one person. now. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's thursday, june 7th. we're learning more about a fatal shooting overnight in east palo alto. a man was shot and killed on gloria way just before midnight. we've been out there since 4:30 this morning. tara has more about what police are saying. >> reporter: good morning. police have cleared out from this neighborhood. as you can see, a school bus just passed us by. the police were out here all night after a man was shot multiple times and found near this driveway here in east palo alto. the victim has been identified as 31-year-old sedrick tibens. we've seen some of his family members here and understand this was a family home this happened at. around midnight, police were alerted to shots. tibens was hit multiple times

and tied at the hospital. the victim had run-ins with the police before. >> he was actually a pretty good guy. very easy to talk to. friendly, you could say. >> reporter: and police this morning are still searching for both a killer as well as the motive and they very much need to hear from witnesses. so anyone with any information about what happened is asked to call the east palo alto police department. back to you. 7:02. oakland police are investigating a drive-by shooting. it happened on c street near 98th avenue. police say a car drove past a house and started shooting. the bullets went through the house and hit one man in the hand. there were at least ten people inside the house including children. a woman who lives downstairs with her children says her brother-in-law lives upstairs

and he was the person who was shot. >> we just heard, like, somebody drop to the floor and my other sister called to make sure we were okay. >> no one else inside the house was hurt. right now police don't have a motive for the shooting and don't have any suspects. well, des spit that shooting, a joint effort between police and federal law enforcement agents seem -- despite that shooting, a joint effort between police and federal law enforcement agents say the crime is down 17%. lorraine blanco joining us live from millbrae on how much more we're paying for gas and the possible reasons why. >> reporter: well, dave, here

at the chevron in millbrae, it's $4.35 for a gallon of regular. according to the fuel gauge report, that's 79 cents more than the national average. maria cantwell says there's no good rein for the prices and is calling for an investigation. senator cantwell is questioning why other refineries recently shut down for repairs around the same time and she's asking the federal trade commission to investigate those refineries to see if supplies may have been withheld on purpose to inflate prices for all of us. according to the report that analyzes the energy, the sudden price shift shifted in huge prices for refineries and retailers here, about $42 million per day. now, three of the refineries that would potentially be

investigated all cutting production for maintenance and repair. live in millbrae, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. let's check in with sal. starting in contra costa county. >> good morning. we're gonna start on highway 4 because that's the slowest commute. a lot of slow traffic. as you can see, the road sensors are deep in red and part of pittsburg and bay point, slow traffic. it gets better after 242. pleasant hill to walnut creek, the traffic moves well. western contra costa county, pinole to richmond getting some slow traffic and a wait at the san rafael bridge. alameda county southbound from 238 or so, it gets better after highway 92. live pictures show the traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza backed up for about a ten- minute delay. maybe longer than that. the traffic gets better once you make it on the bridge past

the metering lights. this is northbound 280 coming up around highway 17. it's a nice drive. 101 is already getting a little bit of slow traffic as you drive into sunnyvale. let's go to steve. a very good morning and sunrise. some fog has come back. not only that but the breeze has picked up so that makes the allergies worse. the system is hoping to enhance that fog. it's not plealy there but there's some in the -- completely there but there's some in the city. we have a westerly breeze that's decided to pick up in intensity as well. so the high-pressure system looks like it's going to be pushed to the south for a couple of days. coast and bay, fock, sun, 50s, 60s, very low 70s inland. sun nip and breezy. a few locations are windy. a few low 80s. some light rain up to the north. i know. where were these systems back in december or january. well, they show up in june. the ten-day outlook is unbelievably cool as we head

towards summer. this system is still giving us more of an afternoon shore -- onshore breeze or wind. the pollin index have been looking all over. olive, blame olive. it's really high. juniper, cedar, the grasses are high. so when people water and mow the lawn, that just spreads things around. 40s and 50s on the temps. not as cool of a morning. the breeze is helping. i should say helping as far as keeping the temperatures up. west at 20 or west-southwest at 18. it's really doubled compared to yesterday. it will be sunny for most but just temperatures mainly 60s and 70s. patchy fog, coast and bay, sunny, breezy around the bay and inland, cool, to mild to warm but really not that warm. these are very low 80s for some that should be much warmer than that this time of year.

reserve could act if the economy weakens, is what ben bernanke says. here's more. >> reporter: what a roller coaster it's been. the fed is very much in focus again. ben bernanke is testifying for congress today. traders will be closely watching for any hints that the fed is considering more economic stimulus. the feds' latest beige book will suggest that the overall economy expanded at a moderate pace in april and may. and what a difference a few days make. the dow and the s&p 500 had their best gains. is the rally gonna continue today? here's how we're looking so far. the dow is up 93 points. nasdaq is up 1 points and the -- 13 points and the s&p is up 7. pessimism is turning into optimism that global policymakers will take steps to revive growth and some of that

and killed -- shot and killed -- eagleton shot and killed that rhonda in her home -- tarhonda. the suspect hernandez in the etan patz said he choked patz and dumped him in the trash in 1979. the suspect's wife says he's mentally ill and his confession is not reliable. the man who gunned down trayvon martin must spend another three weeks behind bars. zimmerman surrendered to police last sunday. a bond hearing has been set for june 29th. a judge revoked his $150,000 bail after prosecutors claim he lied saying he could not come up with that much money. prosecutors say he raise the

money -- raised the money through donations. zimmerman claims it was self- defense when he shot and killed martin last february. some local lawmakers are offering a second chance for those convicted of a crime. next thursday is clean slate day in concord. people who have been convicted of a crime can try to have it tossed out. those on probation, parole or currently charged with an offense do not qualify. 7:15. well, new this morning, leon panetta arrived in afghanistan today for a surprise visit. as alison burns reports, he was quick to lay out a tough warning for neighboring pakistan. alison? >> reporter: dave, leon panetta is in afghanistan at a very challenging time. this is some video from overnight of his arrival in kabul. he met with u.s. troops, military leaders and afghan officials. he also ratcheted up the pressure on pakistan to do more

to rout the al qaeda-linked network responsible for scores of attacks on americans. >> we're reaching our limits of patience. and for that reason, it's extremely important that pakistan take action to prevent this kind of safe haven from taking place. >> reporter: panetta is also facing questions about an increase in violence in afghanistan and whether it could impact troop drawdowns this fall. this is video from two suicide attacks in kandahar this week that killed least 22 people. panetta is also meeting with afghan's defense minister about reports that 18 civilians were killed yesterday in a nato air strike. panetta said we are at a turning point in the war. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:16. some east contra costa fire

stations will close now that pressure s has failed. the contra costa times reports, the fire district will decide on monday whether to cut 16 jobs and close three stations or slash 19 jobs and close two stations. measure s, a parcel tax, would have saved those services and jobs. a fire service budget has relied on property taxes which have dwindled since the housing market collapse. there are still 8,000 ballots from tuesday's vote. many mailed them in or dropped them off. by law, election officials have until july 6th to report a final count. 7:17. well, critics of the csu system are angry after hearing that more than a million dollars is being spent to renovate the homes of california state university presidents. the csu frills say those improvements reported lie the -- by the l.a. times are necessary in order to

make money. very important fund-raiseers are held at those university homes. well, gays may soon have a role in the boy scouts. the boy scouts are reviewing a proposal to allow individual units to accept gays as adult boy scout leaders. there won't be any changes any time soon. that review process may take a year. the boy scouts are more than a century old. they have a long-standing policy of excluding both gays and atheists. a beloved east bay restaurant suddenly closed its doors for good. shocking customers who have enjoyed their italian food for decades, they've been open in hayward since 1948. the contra costa times reports the owner and his son broke the news to the restaurant's 35 employees on tuesday.

some comcast customers in benicia, you lost your service after two wire thefts in nearby vallejo. the times "herald" reports thieves stole 160 feet of fiberoptic wire from the polls near benicia road and rolling drive. it happened on monday and tuesday. so far, no arrests have been made. well, the mobile app 4 square lets a new dimension. 4 square is best known for allowing smartphone users to tell other people where they are. now the apple is starting to use that same location to recommend restaurants, shops and bars to their users. that new feature expected to start today. 7:0. we have mostly clear skies this morning. however, our small system is coming in that will keep temperatures low. steve paulson will have the forecast next. and raley supermarket voters have voted to go on strike.

rayly's supermarket voters have voted to authorize a strike. but there are no signs for a walkout yet. the contract expired last night. however, talks are continuing and both sides will meet tomorrow with a federal mediator. if the workers go on strike, it would affect stores from napa down to monterey. san francisco's first permanent food truck park is now open for business. the street food park had its grand opening yesterday on 11th street, south of -- south of market. there's space for up to ten trucks that will rotate from week to week to offer a variety. so if you get hungry, that's a good place to go. >> you knowvy to check that

there's another weak front producing light rain near the oregon border. 40s and 50s on the temperatures. we're starting to work off those morning low lows, still some mid-40s. santa rosa made it to 44. big low spend -- spinning at the satellite. that has to move into the pacific northwest tomorrow and that will dive into northern nevada and the east and that will keep us for about two days and we'll warm up for the later part of the weekend. 50s, 60s, 7 oh, upper 70s for many -- 70s, upper 70s for many. a few low 80s. more fog friday. saturday, clear it out, breezy and then it does look warmer, especially away from the coast, sunday and monday. tori and dave? >> all right, steve. kind of a word of calm coming from the national park service this morning. rangers say don't be too concerned if you happen to see headstones on a popular bay area beach. president obama is waking up in los angeles to groups he's targeting and why they are happy to see him there. really?

shooting the suspect. it happened right here in front of this corner store, which is called muse market. it's on the corner of 05th and e streets -- 105th and e streets. a neighbor says he heard four shots fired. he ran out and discovered the knee male officer pointing a gun at a man in his 20s who appeared to be shot in the leg three times. witnesses say two men were fighting. a female officer intervened when she noticed one of the suspects had a conseemed gun. so she fired. some say the officer was nice enough not to wound him. others say that's contributing to the problem. >> i heard about four or five gunshots. >> did it sound like people firing at each other or -- >> i heard just the gunshots. >> i didn't hear anybody firing back at each other. i just heard gunshots. >> reporter: police detained a second person for questioning. that suspect is expected to survive. he's at a nearby hospital. that shoot something still under investigation.

police are not commenting if the officer involved is on paid leave. that would be the protocol. the neighbor says the suspect kept saying why did you shoot me? why did you shoot me? and she replied, well, had you a gun. tara mor -- well, you had a gun. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. there are accusations of racism in another shooting we first sold you -- told you about yesterday morning. friends remember derrick gaines where a south san francisco police officer shot him. the boy's mother -- >> i think it was the fact that derek was black in south san francisco. to be real honest, he was a minority in the south city. >> police say racism is not the issue. but the officer feared for his safety. the san mateo county district attorney's office is

investigating. 7:30. well, the power's back on in parts of millbrae this morning after a car crash knocked down a power pole. pg&e says just after 9:00, a car smashed into a power pole that had a high voltage line on it. that power lane fell down on that chain-link fence and the charge set off a gas line fire underground. the driver was taken to the hospital. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. also new this morning, a subway foods delivery truck caught fire in the east bay. it happened around 4:00 a.m. this is at 8th and oak streets in oakland. the truck was headed from a hayward warehouse to a restaurant in oakland when flames started shooting out of the truck. the driver didn't even notice anything until another driver was honking his horn to get his

attention. >> i couldn't believe -- that's when i got so scared. >> police are blaming that fire on some kind of electrical fire in the truck's refrigeration unit. luckily, nobody was hurt. volunteers searching for signs of missing teenager sierra lamar focused on a new area. they combed the area near lake cunningham in east san jose. the area is a known fishing spot of antolin garcia-torres who has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of sierra lamar. the sheriff's department has made no comment. the next volunteer search is set for saturday. people walking along san francisco's ocean beach are stumbling upon pieces of history. the recent wins have uncovered old tombstones. some of them date back to the '90s. one woman says a pale piece of

>> reporter: now, marvin norwood and louie sanchez are the defendants in the case. the witness said the man matching sanchez's description hit stow. he called 911 after the attack. >> i'm an off off had you die paramedic my partner with me is also -- i'm an off-duty paramedic, my partner with me is also a paramedic off duty. he's been hit. there's blood. we need an ambulance right now. >> now, prosecutors will be calling sanchez's sister and the girlfriend of norwood to the stand next. well, this morning, president obama wakes up in los angeles. he will be attending one more campaign fund-raiser before he flies to nevada. sal is back. he's gonna help you get to where you need to go this morning. >> i want to mention some air delays at san francisco international airport that could be as long as an hour because of some low clouds for some airplanes coming in and out. we'll let you know more. but any say the delays should be cleared up by moon. it's not necessarily at the airport but those low clouds, the planes have to encount he on the way into sfo. let's take a look at 237. we have some slow traffic here getting into the valley. traffic continues to move along slowly getting into that area. also this morning's commute is not all that bad at the bay bridge toll plaza. you will see traffic backed up for the typical delay. it is -- it is longer on 80 northbound. you see the ramp up there. that's very slow. and if you are driving on 80 this is becoming very slow in

san jose. we had an accident northbound 280 at the southwest expressway. they cleared that out but it was there long enough to cause this backup. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. a little bit of nothing came back. it's mainly on the coast. it looks like it's gonna burn off in the city a systemming in right there. a couple of -- city a system right there. a couple of people have asked me what's going on? well, we have a had a series of cold fronts and lows. that really enhances when you get cold weather temperatures. high pressure kind of kicked in yesterday. but it was still breezy to windy. sunny, breezy inland. os or low 80s. fog, sun, by the coast. but breezy to windy as well. santa cruz, capitola. there's one system moving into the north.

the ten-day outlook, both of them were very, very cool, almost to the point where you could say, we should see some rain out of that. we'll see. but the pattern showing every sign of being on the cool side, except for a few days. pollen count enhances because of the wind. that's what's going on with the trees. the main culprit, olive. i dug deep to three to -- to try to find it. grass continues to be really, really high. if you are suffering. at least 15 people have said this is the worst season they've had for allergies. 40s an 50s. should be a lot of 50s. i would imagine santa rosa is in the 50s. but west-southwest 18 or west pat 18 at sfo. but this is what -- but this is double what it was. you can get a good look at the

punching an elderly woman in the wheelchair will face a judge. police say nicholas slugged the 69-year-old woman in the eye as a -- at a bus stop tuesday morning. he reportedly said, i hate feel chair dab, dash i hate white people, when he left. >> nobody should hit men but somebody in a wheelchair? for somebody to twin them black eyes pause they were white -- for somebody to give them black eyes because they were white, that's not right. i'm a native californian.

the fbi is now investigating leaks of classified information about top-secret obama administration programs. renee marsh is in washington, d.c. where there are accusations the white house intentionally leaked the information for political gain. kind of a strange twist there, renee. >> reporter: sure. good morning, tori. yeah. i can tell you here in washington, d.c., we're seeing bipartisan concern about these leaks here, but the fbi investigation will focus a lot on this "new york times" article. within that "new york times article" it talks about the details attacking the nuclear program.

the article says that president obama ordered that attack. the white house says it did not authorize any leaks about this, but senator mccain says the white house is behind the leaks for political gain. >> regardless of how politically useful these leaks may have been to the president, they have to stop. >> reporter: well, jay carney, the white house secretary, responding saying "any suggestion that this administration has authorized intentioleaks of classified gai is grossly irresponsible." tori, back to you. >> all right. thank you. 7:45. stocks are opening higher after china cut its benchmark lending rate in another bid to boost its slowing economy. traders are looking for ben bernanke's testimony for signals the fed may take more steps to help the economy.

a 30-year mortgage, the rates fell to 3.67%. facebook's stock is trading at 26.63. now, two other popular social networking sites are dealing with a hack attack. pam cook is in the newsroom to explain what you should do about it. how should we react, pam? >> well, if you are a member of linked in or e harmony, change your passwords. executives at link in admit hackers managed to steal 6

million passwords and post them online. people are at risk of having their credit card information. now, the sale hacker is likely behind a similar stunt targeting e-harmony. the dates site had 1.4 million passwords stolen. the hacker cited a total of 8 million passwords taken from those two sites. we're still seeing the impact of the japanese quake and tsunami more than a year later. in oregon, look at this, a 7-

foot tall, 60-foot long dock washed ashore on a beach in oregon on tuesday. argone park tested the dock for radiation and say none was found. a vacuum cleaner apparently started that big fire that caused $400 million damage to a nuclear powered submarine. it took 12 hours to put out the flames inside the "uss miami" last month. the sub was docked at a naval shipyard in maine. it was not armed at the time. preliminary finds indicate the vacuum caught fire -- findings indicate the vacuum caught fire damaging the torpedo room. muni wants to reduce rising overtime costs. muni has hired 88 part-time worker to work full time. the change should save muni

2." i'm tori campbell. i'm dave clark. it's thursday, june 7th. police in palo alto are shooting for a gunman who shot and killed a man overnight. that man was found on gloria way just before midnight. we were the first there and has more on the investigation. >> reporter: well, police have now taken down the crime tape and the streets are back open, this after a man was shot multiple times and found near this driveway. police say the victim was 31- year-old sedrick tippen. his brother and other family members have been here throughout the morning. they were very upset and did not want to comment on camera. all of this unfolded shortly before midnight. police shot-spotted alerted to -- were alerted to the fire here. officers say when they got here things were very chaotic. he also had run-ins with the law previously.
