the lives of the officers were in danger and the officer discharged the firearm. >> late this morning, police gave more details about the police shooting of a man in oakland. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. oakland police are investigating this officer- involved shooting. it happened last night and they just revealed more information. we're also hearing more from witnesses. tara moriarty joins us live in

oakland to explain how this incident happened. >> reporter: neighbors say two men were arguing in the car and that's what prompted police to intervene and police had actually stepped up their patrols in that neighborhood because of a recent spike in robberies and shootings. now, if we take a look at the video here, this is the scene of where everything happened. police received a tip also that there was a gun in the car with the two suspects inside. it happened near the corner store off 105th and e street around 7:30. when police approached the scene, the driver of the suspicious car got out and a brief struggle happened. during the struggle, the female officer noticed the driver had somehow armed himself with a gun and she fired and witnesses say she struck the man in the legs and the chest. but some neighbors are disputing the police's account. >> if he watt -- too many -- if he reached for it, i would have from problem. but so many people said he

didn't do that. >> reporter: now, this morning, police say the officer feared for public safety and that's why the officer shot the suspect. this is the fifth officer- involved shooting in oakland this year. des saturday night a major gun and violent offender sweep last year where -- despite a major gun and violent offender sweep last year -- >> in a year and a half, we've netted guns. >> the suspect is an african- american man from san lorenzo. he's expected to survive. police have detained a second person for questioning. police are not really commenting much further. the female officer has been paid on -- placed on paid leave. the neighbor said the suspect kept saying to the officer, why did you shoot me, why did you shoot me? and she replied, you had a gun.

back to you. >> thank you. a joint effort between oakland police and federal law enforcement agents -- agents seem to be working. police say crime has dropped offer the last four weeks. major crimes were down 17% in may compared to april but they are still up 19% compared to last year. as tara mentioned last week, police opiniontion -- mentioned that atf agents -- mentioned, the atf agents netted 92 guns. friends have been gathering to remember derek gaines at the gas station where a police officer shot and killed the boy tuesday night. officers say gaines ran from the officer and then pulled a gun from his waistband before he was shot. the boy's mother feels racism is the reason the african- american boy was killed but police say the officer feared for his safety. b.a.r.t. police have fire hired a

counselor to train people whovy ma a mental illness -- who may have a mental illness. the officer was hired after they shot this man, charles hill, because he was drunk and holding a knife. the counselor will teach officers how to approach tense situations and help diffuse them. police say a -- police say a man was shot and killed at 11:45 last night on gloria way, not far from university avenue. officers responding to a shot- spotter activation -- found sedrick tippen, junior lying in a driveway. other neighbors heard the shooting and rushed to the scene. >> all we heard were people yelling someone's been shot! pretty chaotic. there was a lot of family and friends out here. it took us a while to stabilize the scene. >> so far police don't have a

motive or any suspects for the shooting. the next volunteer search for signs of sierra lamar is set for saturday. the search for the missing teenager was focused on a new area yesterday. lake cunningham in east san jose. ktvu has been told the lake is a known fishing spot for the suspect, antolin garcia-torres. she's been charged with the kidnapping and murder of sierra lamar. the suspects police department has reportedly put a new captain in charge of the police station that overseas golden gate park. the chronicle reports that the veteran captain has been assigned to park station. captain feenny is being reassigned to the evidence division. the chronicle says there's been rampant drug dealing for years on the eastern side of the park near the lake and chief greg sur wants to clean it up.

tourism is a popular industry for san francisco. but tourism is causing a lot of frustration in one neighborhood. lorraine blanco joins us live with how the city is trying to reach a solution and why neighbors say it's not enough. >> reporter: with a breath- taking view of downtown san francisco and the famous painted ladies behind me, this spot is popular for tour buses. too popular for many people who live here according to the transportation municipal agency, 85 buses went by in the last hour. these kind of buses are blocking traffic, double parking and making too much noise. the leadership at the association says they understand the importance of tourism want about -- but want to find ways to compropose mize. they've -- compromise on this.

the power is back on in parts of millbrae after a car accident sparked a fire on millwood drive. pg&e says just after 9:00 a car hit a power pole with a high voltage line on it. the power line fell on down -- fell down on a chain-link fence and the chargic nighted an undergrund fire. the driver was taken to the fire and the caught of the crash is under investigation. a subway food delivery truck caught fire in the east bay this morning. it happened around 4:00 a.m. on 8th street in oakland. the truck was headed to a warehouse in oakland when flames started coming out of the vehicle. the driver didn't even notice any trouble until it was brought toly as i tension by another -- brought to his attention by another driver honking the horn. >> all of a sudden just the fire went -- fire went up, you know. yeah, i couldn't believe it -- that's when i got so scared. >> police blame the fire on an

electrical problem in the truck's refrigeration unit. no one was hurt. defense secretary leon panetta made a surprise visit to afghanistan today where he's stepping up pressure on neighboring pakistan. panetta arrived in kabul this morning to take stock of progress on the war and discuss plans for the troop drawdown. he says the pentagon is frustrated with crossing the border happening. the pakistani was put on notice saying the u.s. was reaching the limits of their patience in regards ha safe havens being offered to terrorists and insurgent -- regarding safe haitians being offered to terrorists and insurgents. lawsuits were filed against the nfl accusing them of hiding information regarding brain injuries. they hope to hold the nfl

county fire stations will close now that measure s has failed in tuesday's election. the contra costa times reports, the fire district will decide on monday whether to cut 16 jobs and close three stations in bechtel island, nicen and brentwood or slash 19 jobs and close two stations. measure s, the parcel tax, would have saved those services.

members of linked in and e harmony are advised to change their password because those passwords have been hacked. they say 6 million user passwords have been packed -- hacked. people who pay to use an upgraded site are also at risk of having their credit card stolen information. the same hacker is likely behind a similar site targeting e har knowmy. the -- e-harmony. the hacker posted two lists on the internet containing a total of 8 million passwords from the two companies. a vacaville family says their dog was killed while

getting a haircut. they left their toy-sized dog at costle canine castle on thursday. they got a disturbing call from the groomers on thursday who said they left the dog unattended on the table and found the dog hanging off the table. she was stringled by her leash. the groomer offered to -- truck -- she was strung up by her leash. the groomer offered to buy the family another dog but they declined. starting this saturday, dogs must be on leashes at rancho laguna park. signs have already been posted at the park. the contra costa times reports that a group of residents who are against the ordinance have are submitted a petition to have the law repealed. >> we got 1800 signatures. it's now either going to the ballot or the town council. so we're free to go until at

right around 71 degrees. forecast headlines for today, more sunshine, temperatures will warm up over yesterday's readings. tomorrow a little bit of a halt in the warming trend. we'll cool things off. then we warm back up saturday and sunday. here's the set up for today as high pressure is in command of our weather. there is a weak weather system and a few high clouds could sneak up mendocino county and right around humboldt county. temperatures will be warmer than yesterday. this weather system is sliding in from the northwest -- north. this will increase the breeze a little bit. as a result, temperatures cool off slightly for friday. 60s and 70s. here is our forecast model showing you some patchy fog regrouping your parts of the forecast. this evening and then some morning fog -- this evening and then in the morning some
