yesterday we were dealing with fog. it will be sunny and temperatures anywhere from mild to warm but all signs point to warmer weather arriving for the weekend. here's sal. >> highway 4 looks good here, bay point, antioch a little bit slow in antioch but here in bay point it looks good. 680 southbound you can see traffic in san fransisco i messed that up. i will say since i mentioned 068 that's also in good shape. >> thank you, sal we begin with our developing news out of san jose. police still at the scene of a deadly shooting at a karaoke bar on center old rode and burke street. officers received a 9-1-1 call at about 2:30 this morning. when they arrived they found a 24-year-old man had been shot. he was pronounced dead a short time later. investigator e.g.investigators do not have a motive at this time. coming up at 6:30 we're going to have a report.

police in gilroy investigating a possible link between the suspect in the sierra lamar case and several unsolved cases. ktvunoelle walker is in gilroy to tell you what the police are investigating. noele? >> gilroy police have identified a suspect in a string of child annoyances last summer and that suspect bears a strong resemblance to the suspect in the sierra lamar case. according to the gilroy police they identified a suspect in a string of child annoyances last summer for allegedly trying to lure children into a car. you are looking at a sketch of that suspect, and then here it is next to the booking photo of garcia torrez. he is the man charged with kidnap and murder of sierra lamar. now the sketch and photo bear a strong resemblance.

the so-called child annoyances involved three girls and one boy. mere while sierra lamar's family continues to hold out hope that shell be found alive. volunteers searched for clues on wednesday and another search is scheduled for saturday. they've been holding those searches twice a week. garcia torrez's next court appearance is postponed because his attorney has stepped down from the case due to an unspecified conflict of interest. reporting live in gilroy. and overnight news incredible video of a high speed chase in contra costa county. a shower of sparks flew from the wheels of the stolen pickup truck late last night. it had gone over a police spike strip. now the hour long chase began in pittsburg. it ended along interstate 680 near alamo. speeds reached 100 miles an hour. the suspect eventually got out of the truck and surrendered, and you can see the damage that

those spike strips did to that pickup truck. around 9:00 last night antioch police and firefighters were at this home on york shire drive. police taped after an area of the house while firefighters worked in the garage chopping down part of the what will. a police officer told our photographer that there was a large mango operation happening at that home. 6:03 police in concord have recommended vehicular manslaughter charges against a 17-year-old driver who was involved in a crash that killed a father and daughter. the teenager avoided our cameras yesterday outside his home. two months ago he lost control of his car on tree boulevard in concord crashing into a family that was riding their bikes. solai marks an nuri and his 9- year-old daughter were killed. their lawyer wants that young driver charged as an adult. >> i certainly hope they treat him as an adult because of what he did. there's two lives that have been taken, a father and a

daughter. >> well, the decision now rests with the district attorney's office. the details of what was found in that two-month investigation hasn't been released but police say in order to recommend a vehicular manslaughter charge they have to find some degree of recklessness. this morning family and friends are mourning the loss of a 92-year-old grandmother. wednesday afternoon jean smith was on her daily walk in a marked crosswalk at arlington boulevard and brewster drive. police say at the same time 57- year-old douglas herring was riding downhill on arlington. they say he didn't see smith until he was about 100 feet away. by then it was too late to stop. smith was pronounced dead at the hospital. herring suffered minor injuries, and police say he did not act negligently. today un special enjoy to syria meets with secretary of state hillary clinton about the

crisis in syria. this follows reports about another mass killing in syria that includes women and children. coming up the growing pressure for the united states to step in and intervene. back here at home supporters of proposition 29, that's the cigarette tax here in california, they believe they can still win. the latest ballot count shows the measure is losing by less than 53,000 votes. the difference was 63,000 on election night. now the initiative if it passes would impose on extra dollar per pack of cigarettes to fund cancer research. an estimated 1 million ballots still have not been counted. a new nike shoe goes on the market tomorrow and people already lining up. already rain plan koa is in san fransisco with a look at this hot ticket item and how much people are willing to pay for it. already rain i cannot believe

clouds around. we're looking pretty good on this friday morning, a little breezy in some of the higher elevationings, you get up about 1500, 2,000 feet you can find blustery kg conditions. some of that cool air was in place from the system we had a couple days ago o so the allows were down. we had a couple 30s and 40s, but everything points to sunshine and warmer weather inland saturday into sunday but looks like a roller coaster ride. pollen count nothing has changed. i mean it continues to be the trees and also the grass. it continues to be the main culprit on the trees and the wind doesn't help. people tell me that. temperatures will be warming up, might knock down a little bit on the grass this year. system that went through yesterday along the oregon border, that's preventing the high from building but the other one in the pacific says if you're going to do that,

breezy. very leg fog saturday. it does look warmer then a cool down starlets tuesday. well scientists are warning that the world is headed towards the tipping point. a group of 22 international researchers including some from stanford and cool say population growth, environmental destruction and climate change could change the face of the earth forever. according to the study in a worst case scenario, current trends could have the same impact as if an asteroid were to hit the earth. >> wow, okay. time 6:11. a former president at 87 years old, how former president george hw bush's active lifestyle has really slowed down. >> new cameras are keeping a close eye on riders, how they work and when you can expect to see them. policewoman

welcome back, officials at save mart supermarket say they've given employees the company's last, best, and final offer. there are three bay area save mart store, medical pietas, hayward and antioch. union recommends the employees reject the offer and the two sides go back to the bargaining table. no votes have been scheduled but if the workers turn down the company offer this could lead to a strike. union workers have already authorized a strike. well the wife of former baseball star roger clemens is

coming to his defense. debbie clemens will take the witness stand today. she's expected to testify that she received an injection of human growth hormone from her husband's then strength coach. debbie clemens will add that her husband was never there and knew nothing about it. but earlier that coach testified it was roger clemens who asked for that injection. new this morning, united states is under growing pressure to do something to stop the violence and killing in syria. scott mcfar land reports unit united nation secret service en route to washington for talks today. >> just two days after a killing that killing 80 people, women and children included there is new violence in syria this morning. government troops again battling remember rebels. international peace negotiator meeting with hillary clinton in the next 30 minutes here in

washington. he is saying that other nations with influence need to use that influence to stop this conflict. top u.s. military officials say they too are concerned about the lack of progress. >> it is moving at a pace that is slower than we -- anyone would want, i mean the continued massacres are just deplorable. >> a lot of movement in the next hour, cope amonoat the state department and the president of the united states speaking in about an hour. we'll see if he mentions syria. live in washington, scott mc mcfar land. a new pentagon report is showing an alarming increase in suicides among american soldiers. the report says this year suicides for active duty troops average almost one a day. the reasons are not clear. army information is suggesting soldiers with several combat tours are at greater risk of committing suicide. however the report says a

significant number of army suicides are committed by soldiers who have never been deployed to a war zone. former president george bush relies on a walker to move around. jeb bush says it's been tough for his 87-year-old father to slow down. the older bush use today sky dive every five years on his birthday. his most recent jump was in 2009. jeb says even though his father needs the assistant of a walker he remains mentally sharp. california senator diane feinstein is speaking out against a rising number of looks of top secret government information to the media. >> this has to stop. when people say they don't want to work with the united states because they can't trust us to keep a secret, that's serious. >> now these concerns are related to recent news reports that expose u.s. saber attacks against iranian nuclear sites

and president obama's involvement in ordering drone attacks on suspected terrorists in pakistan. the army privates is due back in court this morning. the a military judge is scheduled to rule on a request by defense attorneys for bradley manning to dismiss ten of the 22 charges against him. he's charged with aiding the enemy by downloading class fied documents to wick key leeks while he was staked in iraq. a new surveillance system is coming to puny. by this time 400 cameras will be installed in stations and tunnels. software is designed to automatically spot suspicious behavior. now the texas company behind the software says its product works every second of the day and while people lose focus looking at surveillance screens for more than 20 minutes they can actually miss something important i guess. sal is focused on highway

temperatures very similar the last coupling days, 60s, 70s, but the system tom north is responsible for us kind of maintaining the temperatures and it left mind some very cool air and all signs screaming warm weather kicking in saturday and sunday certainly away from the coast. that little system keeps the wind going and you see the low right by the banner. but out yonder, out there high pressure is building in, and that's going to kick in and fire up and be the over the west coast saturday late into sunday and monday. upper 40s, low to mid-50s, temperatures much warmer than they have been in the past couple days. some of that fog is getting chewed up. there's no heat or temperatures, even some of the higher elevations aren't warm enough to support it. it forms fast. patchy allow clouds but mainly 60s, 70s, and low 80s. everything says we'll warm it up. with your weekend in view it

does look good and a cool down starts tuesday and that will carry us into probably most of next week. facebook making it easier to find apps. it's starting to roll out its app center. right now it features 600 apps mostly games reviewed by the company. it will recommend apps to users based on their interests the types of apps their friends like and the ones they have liked in the past. the app center is available on facebook's web site as well as apple and android devices. there's been another web site hacking, last fm recommends its users change pass words as soon as possible. it also warnings not to respond to e-mails asking them to change their password. it cannot tell how many pass words were leaked or who did it. but it is investigating. the advice is go to the web site itself and change your password rather than a link from your e-mail.

good morning, traffic is moving along pretty well if you are driving on 24 between walnut creek and oakland. we'll see traffic moving well all the way up through the tunnel. well, eight people involved in a rare kidney transplant in san fransisco have finally met. the kidney recipients needed donations to survive. all had spouses or friends willing to donate but the halves of each couple were not good matches so the donors offered their kidneys in exchange for a better match. that let to what california pacific medical center calls a four way in one day made possible because of special software designed by another kidney recipient. >> doctors have offenses and there are possibilities for a lot more people now.

>> david jacob cease software has helped 44 kidney patients at california pacific so far. he says it's vital to get a match because the risk of dying on dialysis is as high as 20%. the west coast is now getting the fallout from last year's japanese quake and tsunami. a 66-foot long dock, this one here from japan floated and washed ashore on the coast of oregon. while there's no radiation, the dock does carry millions of little marine organisms including a tiny expertise of crab, algae and star fish native to japan. scientists are worried these expertise will spread and threaten the u.s. coastline. >> we would have thought they that they would have died without any food sources. usually these are near shore organisms and for them to be out in the ocean and make the trip across that's surprising. >> wildlife officers cleaned

that dock yesterday. they removed some of the organisms it's a 155-ton dock made of concrete and steel. they're decide what they're going to do with it in the next day or so. take a look at this animation from the university of hawaii. you can see the size of the tsunami debris field. they're forecasting it to drift to hawaii and then along the pacific coast. they believe coastal currents will deflect some of the debris back towards hawaii. however california has issued guidelines for volunteers to help out to pick up the debris. a new shoe is hitting stores but people are already lining up, take a look, to get their hands on that pair. >> yellow crime tape surrounding a san jose strip maul right now. we'll tell you what happened. >> we're going to tell you what happened overnight and this morning on the new york stock

it's june the 8th. i'm pam cook. we have breaking news. we continue to follow developing news from san jose. a man has been shot and killed. happened at a karaoke bar near center road. ktv's cara lieu has been out since 4:30. what do you know now cara. >> reporter: i want to show you what is going on right now here in the scene just in about the last hour or so. police officers have moved the victim's body, but there are quite a few homicide investigators out here swells crime scene technicians and we're here at a strip mall on center street and the investigation seems to be focused towards the back of this strip mall. this is the 18th homicide of the years year. they got a 9-1-1 call around 2:30 this morning alerting them to a shooting. the victim is a 24-year-old man. he was pronounced dead here at the scene. investigators so far have not released his name. earlier this morning our

cameras were rolling as police had a man in handcuffs and put him in the back of a parole car. police aren't saying what his connection may be to all this. they also say they don't have a motive for the shooting. we are waiting for updates from san jose police department. as soon as we get those we will bring those to you. time is now 6:31 investigators focusing new attention on several child annoyance cases in gilroy. police in gilroy reportedly investigating whether the suspect in the sierra lamar case may be connected to those cases. we'll get a live report from gilroy with details of the investigation. today should be the final day of testimony in the pretrial hearing with the two men charged with beat beating brian stow. on the stand yesterday was dorene sanchez, the sister of the defendant louie sanchez and the fiancee of the other defendant marvin norwood.

roadway knee after he pleaded guilty to false imprisonments of his wife. an ethics hearing starts on june 19. today both sides will hand in a list of witnesses that they want the ethics commission to subpoena along with any objections they may have to witness statements. the family members and friends of a teenager shot and killed in south san fransisco are holding vigils at the gas station where he was shot. the family of 15-year-old derrick gaines has also hired attorney john burris to investigate whether the shooting was racially motivated. police say the officer did it in self-defense and claims the teenager pulled out a gun first. more seniors at heritage high school in brent wood could be banned from tomorrow's graduation ceremony. yet was the last day of classes and graduation practice is scheduled today. however, school administrators met last night to talk about

suspending even more students. the students are accused of vandalizing the school and also chaining up a 6-month-old lam. 50 students have already been suspended and they will not be allowed to walk. >> i just don't think the crime fits their punishment, that they can't walk. this is for the rest of their lives they'll remember this. >> however the district superintendent says students participating in senior pranks that are harmful or destructive they're liable for damages and they will not participate in commence want exercises. >> drivers in fran south market neighborhood will now have to drive slower. the speed limit on parts of howard, full some harris and bryant streets have been lowered down from 30 to 25. officials say that will improve safety in the neighborhood. happening now people in san fransisco are already lining up for gnaw pair of nike shoes. we want to take you out there live. this is outside the sheik store on market street. people there have been lining

that kind of money. >> we don't have to run over to you. you're already there. >> we're here. as a matter of fact, if you are looking at the commute now, traffic is moving along pretty nicely. if you are going to be driving in some areas. it's friday light in some areas, not so for others. the bay bridge is backed up for sure, but you will see only a slight backup. it's backed up to about the middle of what used to be that parking lot there, and then off you go into san fransisco with little or no delay. also the morning commute looks pretty good if you are driving on 880 north and southbound right here in the sunny east bay. no major problems. the as are out of town this weekend so you won't have to worry about any traffic. let's move along and take a look at antioch and pittsburg and bay point. we see some more slow traffic here but only at antioch, the rest of the commute looks good and then 80 between valet owe and richmond off to a nice start. >> a few little patches of fog

around, sunny breezy again. temperatures though not as cool this morning, in fact, i mean, the days are getting much much longer. we're two weeks away from the official start of summer here. 48 to 58 on the lows. it will be sunny, breezy, 58, 76 by noon and this afternoon sunny and breezy again. some higher elevations are more in the windy category. fast moving systems. i mean you see these zipping on by. that's a fast jet stream for this time of year. we had that system drop in a couple deistic, the lows are running warmer and the afternoon highs especially on saturday and into sunday they'll be heading out. we do have low pressure moving in. after that goes by, high pressure is hot on its heels, it'll start to warm us up on the weekend. kind of the transition today as that system begins to move, everything's falling into place here, changing here. sunny and warm kind of been

ktvu's already rain just arrived on the scene to tell us about crews that will be very hard at work for some time. >> reporter: , this water main break is very bad news for several bibusinesses in the area including hotelings and a sub way and a 711 over here. an employee with the san fransisco puc says the businesses won't have water for at least six or seven hours more. they thinks the break is due to old age. the water main he said was built in the early 1900. right now we're waiting for a crew from pg and e to get here to make sure when they go in there there and fix the water mains that it won't get in the way of other utilities and cause any problems with utilities. as you can see it's dry right now. there's a little wetness on the pavement but the water main break is under control. it happened at about 4:30 and it only took them about an hour to get that break under control. of course under ground it's a

different story. when they get here pg and e will look at the utilities, mark them and make sure they know where those are so they can go in and dig into the ground and fix that water main break but right now they're telling us it will be at least another six or seven hours before businesses here on mason street between beach and jefferson will have water, and also there's a block on jefferson that's al water this mortgage. reporting live in san fransisco. >> here a quick look at some of the other top stories we're following for you right now at 6:44. in san jose police still at the scene of a deadly overnight shooting that happened at a karaoke bar. the victim a 24-year-old man. just about an hour ago the victim's body was removed from the crime scene. very few details right now, but had is san jose's 18th 18th homicide of the year. and late last might, look at this sparks are really flying from that spellen pickup truck.

the suspect kept driving even after going over a police spike strip. the chase started in pittsburg. it ended in alamo. that's where the suspect got out of the truck and then suspended. several unsolved cases involving children in gilroy are now raising the question of a possible link to the suspect in the sierra lamar case. ktvu's noelle walker joins us now. >> reporter: gilroy police have identified a suspect in what they're calling a string of child annoyances and that suspect there has a strike resemblance to the suspect in the sierra lamar case. this is one of the neighborhoods where last summer someone tried to lure children into his care. i talked to a neighbor a few minutes ago and he said unfortunately this is kind of a prime area for that kind of crime because there's a school just down the street. now, according to the gilroy

patch, gilroy police identified that suspect in that string of child annoyances from last summer. you're looking at a sketch of that suspect, and then here that sketch is next to the booking photo of garcia torrez. he is the man charged with the kidnap and murder of sierra lamar. the sketch and photo bear a striking resemblance. the so-called child annoyances involved three girls and one boy allegedly trying to be lured into a man's car. now, meanwhile sierra's family continues to hold out hope that shell be found alive. volunteers search for clues on wednesday and another search on saturday. garcia torrez is scheduled for his next court appearance at the end of next month. that court appearance was postponed from the beginning of next month because his attorney stepped down for unspecified conflict of interest. reporting live in gilroy noelle walker. it's now 6:46.

the future of california's economy may depend on how many people graduate from college. yesterday they said that california needs 2.3 million more college grads than it's likely to produce by the year 2025. those leaders say the shortfall in college educated people may force companies to move to other states. they're suggesting an independent agency to guide the state's decisions about higher education. sheriff's deputies are searching for the body of a 6 6th victim now after a deadly plane crash in florida. it was a small plane that crashed yesterday in the swampy area. you can only reach it by helicopters and all terrain vehicles. on board was a well-known businessman from kansas. his wife and their four young children, no one on board survived. the cause of that crash is still not known. most of the protesters who were arrested at an occupy the farm demonstration last month will not be charged. the alameda county district attorney decided not to file

morning news taking a live look at the big board, dow jones not bad, down 33 points little reaction to market slipping ground overnight in asia and europe. new this morning from afghanistan, more than a dozen prisoners including criminals and members of the taliban, they escaped from a jail in northern afghanistan. authorities say a bomb was set off outside one of the prison walls last night. dozens of prisoners escaped through the rubble. three of them were shot and killed by guards and many others were captured but right now authorities are still searching for 14 prisoners. the pentagon says it has ended its $2.6 billion program the one that gives surplus military gear to law enforcement. the program won't resume until state coordinators can account for all of the guns, aircraft, and humvees that police departments have already received. authorities say the audit wasn't prompted by anything specific, but last year the
