several cases involving children. and why some people have camped out in california and what they are so eager to buy. well, good morning to you. welcome to "mornings on 2". >> i'm tori campbell. it's friday, june 8th. we're following breaking news out of san francisco. right now, there is a water main break in the fisherman's wharf area and several hotels are affected. lorraine blanco is there talking to water officials who say the water could be off for at least six hours, lorraine? >> reporter: yeah, he says the block along mason will not have water. the water main break happened

san francisco p.u.c. have a long day ahead of them. they are awaiting for pg&e to come out here. again, several businesses on may -- on mason and jefferson have no power. it started 459:30 this morning and it could last until 4:30 -- at 4:30 this morning and could last until the afternoon. back to you. investigators are still at the scene of a deadly shooting at a karaoke bar near center streets. kara is there now. what's happening now. >> reporter: right now we're seeing quite a few officers up and down the crime scene. they've been here where the victim's body was. san jose police investigating after a shooting left one man

dead at a karaoke bar. earlier this morning, before sunrise, our camera was rolling as police had a man in handcuffs and then put him in the back of a patrol car. so far police are not answering the questions as to what the connection might be to this crime. what they are saying is that this is san jose's 18th homicide of the year. the 911 call came in at 2:30 this morning, again, at a shooting at a karaoke bar, the police tell the -- say the victim was 24 years opened. they are also telling us they don't have a motive for this murder. we've been waiting quite sometime for an update from san jose police. we've not gotten that yet but as soon as we do, we will bring that to you. back to you. >> thank you. 7:04. in january, police investigated another shooting at another

karaoke bar on west alma avenue. the injuries were not life- threatening. all three victims were driven by friends to the hospital. 7:04. well, supporters of proposition 29, the proposed cigarette tax believe they can still win. in the latest ballot count, the measure is losing by less than 53,000 vote -- there is an estimated 1 million ballots that still have not been counted. tattoo artists have until july 1st to enact the safe body art act. body art practitioners have to complete training on blood- borne pathogen exposures.

costa. you are seeing sparks flying from the wheels of a stolen pickup truck. the hour-long chase began on pittsburg and ended on 680 into -- 6 0 near alamo -- 680 near alamo. police say the suspect was driving the wrong way and going about 90 miles an hour. eventually, the suspect got out. no word on what prompted the chase to re-- to begin with. last night there were reports of a garage fire on yorkshire drive. that's when they found 500 marijuana plants and the growing equipment. police are trying to figure out who is responsible. and in antioch, two groups were arguing on sycamore drive about 8:00 when shots rang out.

walker. >> reporter: good morning. take a look at this sketch. this sketch was done a year ago. now look at that sketch next to a booking photo of the man charged with the kidnapping and murder of morgan hill teen, sierra lamar. the sketch bears a resemblance to antolin garcia-torres' mugshot. the area where the child annoyance is near a school. over the course of a week, three girls an one boy were approached by the suspect. neighbors are concerned now and they were then about the possible connection. >> that is scary, to know that he's been lurking around for -- for good knows how long, i mean, a year. that's only something that they can verify. but how long before that?

>> reporter: now, we need to point out that gilroy police have not named antolin garcia- torres as a suspect in those child annoyances from last year. they've only said that they have identified a suspect. we've put in a call to police and hope to hear back from them this morning. in the meantime, garcia-torres' next court date is july 1st. he will have another attorney representing him. his first attorney stepped down due to a condition flick of of -- conflict of interest. two months ago, a teenager lost control of his cadillac escalade on treat boulevard in concord, crashing into a family riding their bikes. a man and his 9-year-old daughter were killed. the family attorney wants the driver charged as an adult.

>> you get behind a 2,000-pound vehicle and you do something like this that can cause loss of life as it did in this situation, you are responsible for that. >> the decision now rests with the district attorney's office about whether to file charges. details of what was found in the two-month investigation are not being revealed. but police say in order to recommend a vehicular manslaughter charge they had to find some degree of recklessness. wednesday afternoon jean smith was on her daily walk 0 in a marked crosswalk on arlington and brewster drive. police say jean smith was hit.

the driver could not stop in time. neighbors say it's a dangerous intersection. >> i don't really try to cross that because i use a stroller. the cars come by quickly i think because they are not expecting anybody. >> smith had taken walks in this neighborhood for the past 62 years. today in oakland, a $21 million program starts to buy foreclosed homes in low income neighborhoods and convert them into affordable rental houses. the first 20 foreclosed homes will be purchased this summer. 80 more homes will be purchased next summer. it's the result of a partnership between way point real estate group and enterprise community partners. the current homeowner facing foreclosure, they will have a chance to stay in their houses and went them out with the possibility of repurchasing them later. and two bay area men are

we've heard a lot about. mitt romney got $76 million, almost $17 more than obama. and if this goes on until june, that could be -- goes on in june, that could be a game changer. we'll see what happens. >> you mentioned the super- pacs. that's after the supreme court's rather controversial ruling. so this could be the most expensive campaign in history. >> reporter: there will be a lot of people who will say that there's too much money in this case. but you know what? that's what the ground rules are right now, tori. >> there won't be a lot of spending here in california, as the state is not up for grabs.

if there's less demand for our products in places like paris or madrid, it could -- could mean less business for manufacturers in pittsburg or -- in pug or milwaukee. these decisions are in the hands of the fundamental leaders. i've been in frequent contact with them over the past several weeks. we know there are specific steps they can take right now to prevent the situation there from getting worse. in the short term. they have to stabilize their financial system. part of -- part of that is tacking action to inject capital into the weak binks. le getting there is gonna -- getting there is gotta -- the weakness. getting there is gonna take

some time. with respect to greece, which has elections next weekend, we've said that it's in everybody's interest for greece to remain in the eurozone. we recognize the sacrifices that the great people have made and european leaders understand the need to provide support if the greek people choose to remain in the eurozone. but the greek people also need to recognize that their hard ships will likely be worse if they use to exit from the eurozone. over the locker term, even as -- they also have to promote economic growth. as some countries have discovered, it's a lot harder to rein in things if your economy is not growing. and leaders like angela merkel

and others are working to put in place a growth agenda alongside responsible, fiscal plans. the bottom line the solution is hard. the dee sigses are tough but europe has the capacity to make them. and -- the decisions are tough but europe has the capacity to make them and their success is good for us. the sooner they act, the more concrete the actions and then the consumers will gain confidence in the markets. in the meantime, given the -- i goen the signs of weakness in the world economy not own -- not only in europe. it's critical we take the actions we can to strengthen the economy right now. last september, i sent congress a detailed jobs plan.

it had broad support. if congress passed on track, we would be on track to have a million more working this year. the unemployment would be lower. our economy -- tash our economy would be stronger. they did act on the tax bill which is putting more money in americans' paychecks. i appreciate that. but they left move of it safety jetting there. and with the head winds, i urge them to recore because there's steps we can take right now to put people back to work. they are not just my ideas. they are not just democratic ideas. they are idea believed would make a real difference in our economy. >> keep in mind that the private sector has been hiring

>> well, first of all, the situation in europe is not simply a debt crisis. you've got some stunts like greece that genuinely have spent more than they are bringing in and they have problems. there are other countries that are running a surplus and had fairly responsibility nis cal policies. but add weeknesss with westbound to what's happened here and that's weakened their financial system. there are a lunch of other items going on in europe. it's not truly a -- the markets are getting nervous have stated making it more expensive for it to borrow. wife's been in contact with european leaders over the past

without water since early this morning. you can see the break is under control. they are cleaning up a sediment that came out of the ground when that water main exploded. one little girl told us it looks like a beach out here. the san francisco p.u.c. thinks the break could be due to age -- and it may be 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. before the water is flowing again. >> we have to dig down to the pretty serious break. the maintenance worker indicated it's probably a split which means it could affect several feet of the pipeline. so it will be, it will be well excavated. it's an old pipe. the water line break is including a dozen businesses.
