alcatraz triathlon. there are already dozens of spectators lining up, ready to growth the athletes as they come out of bay. the swim is only a mile and a half long but the conditions are challenging. water temperature is 55 degrees. and the entire time they are fighting a four knot current that is dragging them towards the golden gate bridge. they can get to this spot and they will run on the red carpet. this is a triathlon. so the work doesn't stop there. they run over to the parking lot. inside the bags they have their towels and shoes and put those on and continue the rest of the race. we will show you a map of the full course. after the mile and a half swim, there is a 18 mile bike ride that takes them to ocean beach and back. it is followed by a 8 mile run from the marina to baker beach. it is start add half hour from now and the swimmers are on a boat on the way to alcatraz. they will jump in the water

temperatures cranking up today. we will look at the numbers coming up in a few minutes. they are conducting a probation check and they shot and killed a pit bull yesterday evening. police tell the contra costa times a pit bull came at them and they fired bean bags and when that didn't stop the dog, they fired the handgun. they didn't make any arrests and they refused to discuss why they searched the house in the first place. a couplele is under arrest at a hotel. her 21-year-old daughter is being held hostage at the villa inn on lincoln avenue. s.w.a.t. team surrounded the place and there was a standoff. and 2:15. they heard a gunshot from inside the motel. they fired flash banks and no one was hurt. they took into custody a 23-year-old man and the 21-year-old girlfriend. former indian army officer

relative humidity are combining for a dangerous situation in the south bay. firefighters had to put out two grass irfires burning at the same time yesterday. one near highway 87 and the other at a landfill in milpitas and a nearby resident took this video as the first engine arrived on scene. 25 miles an hour wind gusts and reached 20 feet into the air. it jumped a walking trail and threatened homes. >> it took them two hours to knock down the 9-acre fire. >> the wind whipped it up. it is fast. and it is kind of reminded me of the oakland fire. >> they were warned to shelter in place. no one was injured in either of the fires. the causes of the fires are being investigated. >> firefighters in petaluma put out fires overnight. it caught fire around two.
