alcatraz triathlon. there are already dozens of spectators lining up, ready to growth the athletes as they come out of bay. the swim is only a mile and a half long but the conditions are challenging. water temperature is 55 degrees. and the entire time they are fighting a four knot current that is dragging them towards the golden gate bridge. they can get to this spot and they will run on the red carpet. this is a triathlon. so the work doesn't stop there. they run over to the parking lot. inside the bags they have their towels and shoes and put those on and continue the rest of the race. we will show you a map of the full course. after the mile and a half swim, there is a 18 mile bike ride that takes them to ocean beach and back. it is followed by a 8 mile run from the marina to baker beach. it is start add half hour from now and the swimmers are on a boat on the way to alcatraz. they will jump in the water

right at 7:30. the first swimmers, the fastest one going for the first prize, they will be coming back to the area at 8:00 in the morning. live in san francisco, ktvu, channel 2 news. the coast guard suspended its search for a man in body degree go bay. he fell -- bodega bay. he was whale watching with a friend. he he landed on rocks and washed away by the waves. helicopters and rescue boats were launched. he was never found. the search was called off at 10:15 last night. this man has died. his friends posted a tribute page. they say 30-year-old steven martin was taken off life support. martin got into a fight in golden gate park after the foot race. another person jumped in and punched him. he became unconscious after hitting his head on the frowned. so far no arrests are made in

relative humidity are combining for a dangerous situation in the south bay. firefighters had to put out two grass irfires burning at the same time yesterday. one near highway 87 and the other at a landfill in milpitas and a nearby resident took this video as the first engine arrived on scene. 25 miles an hour wind gusts and reached 20 feet into the air. it jumped a walking trail and threatened homes. >> it took them two hours to knock down the 9-acre fire. >> the wind whipped it up. it is fast. and it is kind of reminded me of the oakland fire. >> they were warned to shelter in place. no one was injured in either of the fires. the causes of the fires are being investigated. >> firefighters in petaluma put out fires overnight. it caught fire around two.

it also spread to nearby veg take. >> they helped to put out the fire. and fortunately no one was hurt. contra costa county fire district is making cuts. the fire district is set to decide tomorrow whether to cut 16 jobs and close three stations on the island and brentwood or close two stations. they would have raised a hundred million dollars over the next 10 years. we have a video of a crash that closed the highway. it happened around 5:40 near the fremont exit. the drive was going more than a hundred miles an hour. he was thrown out of the truck and taken to the hospital in critical condition. they also say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

complex near the complex of auburn university and right now police are not saying much about it. witnesses said somebody started shooting when a fight broke out at a pool party and there are reports that two auburn football players were killed and one current was injured. they are expected to release more information later today. firefighters are working to control a growing fire. the high park fire has destroyed or damaged 10 buildings. it started in the mountainous park area san quickly spread. the high wind is helping it grow and dozens of people have been forced to leave their homes. >> i can't imagine my house is there. for how close the fire was and now i am not going to have a home and i have no place to go. >> no injuries have been reported and the cause of that

fire is still being investigated. >> they are dealing with a wind fueled fire and it has now burned 10,000 acres and has destroyed 10 buildings. some people have been asked to evacuate but nobody was hurt. it happened just before 7:00 at the point. firefighters say heavy brush and a large section fueled the fire and they also say the closest fire hydrant forced them to shut it. the cause of the fire was being called suspicious. they are going door to door and looking into how to educate people on their homes about defensible space. they are being asked to
