we're also following overnight apartment fire in the east bay. it started around 1:00 this morning, causing major damage to a complex in bay point. lorraine blanco joins us live with more. >> reporter: good morning. the fire forced a lot of families out of their homes and firefighters believe a barbecue grill could be to blame. you can see how high the flames shot in the air from this video we obtained from a neighbor. this was at 1:00. contra costa county says it quickly became a three-alarm blaze. a teenaged neighbor jumped into action. >> i woke up to smell of fire. i went around the corner and i saw the patio there, a huge fire, and i came in and broke the window. i told everybody to go outside.

got everybody out of the house. started knocking on people's doors yelling fire! >> reporter: two families are displaced. two units are a testal lost, least. the american red cross is helping them with shelter an food. the good news, no one was injured. back to you. a shooting in oakland last night left one man dead. it happened shortly before 11:00 between 22nd and 23rd. the victim was a 26-year-old alameda man but his identity is being held until family members are notified. the victim reportedly got into an altercation where he had been visiting. so far no arrests have been made, we don't know a motive. the man convicted of a father and killing his two sons in san francisco in 2008 is scheduled to be sentenced later this morning.

edwin ramos was convicted of three counts of murder last month. prosecutors say ramos shot the three mistaking them for rival gang members. ramos faces live in prison without the possibility of parole. just minutes ago, the doors opened to the apples developers conference in san francisco. alley ras mose has been there -- ailry ailry -- ktvu's ail -- ktvu's allie rasmas is there live. >> reporter: registration starts at 7:00. we should start to see movement here. but that's just the

coloradomexico. in colorado, strong winds are pushing the flames across the -- flames across the area. a dam -- adam housley is in denver with both fires and the destruction she are causing. >> reporter: we have new information in for you that have been given about the high park fire. we're now told 37,000 acres have burned since saturday morning. the belief is that this fire started from a lightning strike. they still -- they still haven't made that official. more than 400 people at this hour are battling the fire. the good news this morning, if there is some as this fire continues to burn very hot and fast is that temperatures are down significantly. they are down to 78. that will be the high. humidity is still low, about 20%. the winds have died down. today, the winds are expected to be around 9 miles an hire.

this fire is the fifth major fire that's burned in colorado. it's a very drought-stricken area here that this fire is being fueled by. in nearby new mexico, the rio dosa area, a fire began has burned 40 square miles. firefighters on the ground have no aerial support. we're told they will be back up today. 36 structures have been damaged there. like the fire here in colorado, hundreds of people have been evacuated. the smoke here is so heavy from these two fires that it had be -- that it can been. nebraska, texas. right now, tori, still difficult conditions here. i can tell you that -- i know -- i know firefighters that we've spoken to, they watch

we're following developing news from vallejo. crews are putting out hot spots from an early-morning apartment fire. the fire started about one hour ago near the intersection of tennessee and ave vee yub -- avian. there's no word of injuries but the fire caused major damage to the building. investigators are still trying to determine the cause. and this morning a red flag fire warning remains in effect in the north bay mountains an east bay hills. informs from across the bay area are going door to door warning homeowners of the extreme fire danger. they are also giving people important safetities ahead of what could be a very, very difficult fire season.
