near the aquatic center to let us know what police are saying about this tragic discovery. paul? >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. police are considering this a suspicious death. they were out here and they centerrerred their investigation just a few feet from the edge of the pier. that's where they found a body this morning. oakland police say just before 6:30 this morning, they received a call of shoes floating at the watt. once on the scene, officers saw feet. they say the body was about four or five feet away from thepy. right now this case isee being investigated as a suspicious investigate -- is being investigated as a suspicious suspicious death. witnesses say they saw weight attached to the body. police wouldn't say exactly where the weights were in relation to the body but this red car is also being associated with the case. witnesses say they have seen it in the area for at least three days now, one man who says he

frequents the area says his friend saw a man who they believe owns this car. >> you see a man on the dock fishing and drinking vodka. >> reporter: police are asking people to see if they heard or saw anything. officers say it appears the body has been in the water for several days now so it's badly decomposed. right now they are waiting for the coroner to give more information about the booeddy -- body. >> police are hoping if anyone has seen or heard anyone that they come forward. we also found out that there was a person found clinging to rocks last year and that person died after being taken to the hospital. >> reporter: we'll have more on

this at 5:00. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, paul. we have an update now on a story we first told you about on our 5:00 news yesterday. a worker at the alameda county landfill in san leandro has died after she was run over by a large bulldozer. the victim is being identified as angelina messisa. the garbage company, waste management, says the woman was working traffic control when the accident happened. grief coupers are on site todd and cal/osha is investigating. san francisco police are looking for witnesses to a homicide. 28-year-old steven eric eskelone was found dead in his home in the 5000 block of diamond heights boulevard on june 12th. police say he may have been killed by a burglar. they want to see -- they want to speak with witnesses who saw electronics in the area being

carried away. the search continues for sierra lamar. allie rasmus has more to explain the special equipment being used today. >> reporter: well, the santa clara county dive team has searched this reservoir before but for the first time they are using new equipment. if this rock were located 50 feet from here, the sonar would capture the -- the rock and the shadow. this is what the equipment does, it sends back an image. >> the image looks long. the shadow is relatively nare -- is narrow. >> reporter: picking out rocks and tree trunks is exactly what the santa clara county sheriff's dive team has set out to do at this reservoir. the sonar radar looks like a mini torpedo. it costs $40,000. the sheriff's office says it paid for the new equipment with

private donations. 15-year-old sierra lamar disappeared from morgan hill almost three months ago. she still has not been found which is why detectives told the dive team to come back here with the new equipment. >> not that they didn't have faith in the other equipment but they just want to be sure so they can rule this body of water out. >> reporter: they are taking a break for lunch right now. the sheriff's office not this equipment about a month ago and are using it to search lakes. sergeants say once they finish up with the reservoir, they will likely finish up in the coming weeks. back to you. >> thank you. a san jose man is scheduled to be formally charged for molesting children with special needs. 33-year-old joaquin bailey is accused of sexually abusing children from two facilities where he worked. one f.m.

is a 9-year-old girl who says bailey began me lefting her when she was -- one victim is a 9-year-old girl who says bailey began molesting her when she was 6. bailey is being held on $500,000. if convicted, he could be in prison for 5 years to life. opening statements in the trial of william lynch are set to begin tomorrow. 43-year-old lynch was arrested for allegedly beating the reverend gerald lindner in october of 2010. police say lindner was beaten to within an half of his life at his retirement home. lynch says the reverend molested hill and his younger brother in 1975. and lynch says he's always dreamed about confronting the priest. it is a busy day for san francisco's sheriff. later this afternoon, there will be a three-day hearing into whether he can get his job back. new at noon, rob roth is live in san francisco to let us know what happened in court this

santa clara county firefighters were busy putting out flames inside a storage unit at a campbell industrial park. newschopper2on east mclindsey lane. the fire was contained to the storage unit. but smoke got into five other buildings. no one was inside when the fire started. the cause is under investigation. cab drivers at the oakland airport are now on the second day of a two-day strike, instead of picking up fares, they are outside of their cabs and protesting at a park near the nearby. they claim airport management

university student convicted of using his webcam to record his college roommate with another man has been released from jail. he received ten days of automatic credit. his roommate committed suicide days after he appeared in a live video that the roommate briefly streamed online. asian-americans are now the country's fastest-growing racial group. a new study says the number of asians moving to the u.s. has surpassed that of latinos. 430,000 asians arrived in 2010. they make up 36% of all new immigrants. the study says the shift is the result of a slowdown of illegal immigration due to increased enforcement and because employers are demanding more high-skilled workers. the university is facing
