the woman was in an electric -- this is the tenth train fatality. last year there were 16. we now know the identity of a woman who was struck and killed by an amtrak train tuesday night in union city. investigators say 45-year-old trudy james suza was walking on tracks between eighth street and dacota road when she was hit by a train. a slew of gloomy economic reports sent a chill through wall street today. stock prices nose dived. that's the second biggest drop of the year. nasdaq dropped 71 points or 2- 1/2%. new at 10:00, jana katsuyama is live in san francisco with a look at what caused the drop and what it means for investors and consumers, jana. >> reporter: well julie we're in the heart of the financial district. if you take a look behind me on that ticker board you see why

overseas a manufacturing slow down in europe and china and an audit showing spanish banks need a bail out. >> a lot of the extent, the market hates uncertainty. >> reporter: the mood could remain uncertain. moodies downgraded the rankings of 16 banks. including city bank and chase. some experts say that could affect consumers, as banks try to increase profits by hiking credit card rates and fees or by cutting internal cuts. >> that's a more important issue for the economy, because 2/3 of those cuts are labor. and that means restraints on hiring. one interesting note, wells fargo was not among those 15 banks that were downgraded today. reporting live in san francisco, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. one bright spot, oil dipped below $80 a barrel today.

at 10:45 what that means at the price pump. google shareholders agreed to an unconventional stock split at the company's annual stockholders meeting. the two for one split creates a new class of share that does not come with voting power. the decision solidifies the power of larry page and sergey brin so other shareholders can't overrule them. page missed today's meeting due to a throat problem. the stock split will cut the price in half, google first traded publicly eight years ago at $85 a share. we have new information tonight about a deadly motorcycle accident in eastern contra costa county. the crash happened in brentwood this evening on chestnut street near the byron highway. we first brought you these

pictures shortly after the accident happened. investigators now say a fed ex truck was turning left into a private driveway when the tráubg driver crossed into the path -- when the truck driver crossed into the path of the riding motorcyclists. the fed ex truck driver was not hurt. the lights are now back on at the hall of justice in san francisco tonight after a power outage forced several courtrooms to shut down. the power was out for about two hours this afternoon. the county jail, the d.a.'s office and courtroom, some inmate activities were restricted during the outage. pg & e says the hall of justice was the only building affected. the power outage is still under investigation tonight. we have new information about a fatal house fire in berkeley. the coroner has identified the victim. firefighters found the body of 26-year-old meredith anne joy.

what it looks like and where investigators believe that fire started. damage to san francisco's historic pier 29 is now estimated at more than $2.3 million. but even as engineers began removing scorched timbers and concrete. port officials vowed to restore it. >> we're working with the city's preservation architects to ensure that we restore the historical part as much as possible. >> reporter: wednesday's fire burned through the front part of the building tearing holes in the roof and collapsing part of the facade. >> you can see it was blowing in here. that is all hardwood. >> reporter: investigators believe the fire began in this corner. >> that is under investigation. there were some workers working in the building yesterday at some point earlier in the day. so they'll take a look at that. >> reporter: flames raced from the floor to the roof charring the 97-year-old timbers. pools of water lined the floor. the fire took out an electrical

of california street and escuela. the victim was known throughout the community. >> reporter: just before 9:30 this morning, mountain view police got a call about a crash involving a car and pedestrian. when they arrived they found the gruesome scene of a car on the curb and a dead pedestrian. guerra says there was no way that the pedestrian would have survived. >> reporter: the victim was identified as william ware of mountain view. police say the driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taeugen -- taken to the hospital. these pictures show the amount of destruction from the bus stop to where the car ended up. the area is usually congested at that point. >> there were multiple witnesses of the accident. >> reporter: the crash drew people from the neighborhood many who say they knew the victim. >> he was a gentleman that

auction block. how supporters raised more than $60,000 for at risk teens in just a few hours. a lawmaker in hawaii said today that billionaire ellison is not planning any radical changes for the hawaii island of linai. ellison is buying 96% of that island. and they said that ellison seized linai as much more than an asset. about 300,000 people live on linai. it has one school and no traffic lights but it also has two resort hotels and two golf courses. and quite a cooldown from yesterday. these were the numbers yesterday, it was hot. numbers dropped a solid 15 to 20, 25 even 30 degrees over what we saw yesterday. we're not going to see a temperature drop tomorrow but we are going to see an increase in clouds. as we get into the early

oakland tonight, police tell ktvu news that a small fire resulted in the discovery of an indoor marijuana growing operation. the fire happened inside a building in the 7000 block of lacy avenue in east oakland. once inside authorities found 300 marijuana plants. police also tell us that electricity was illegally routed from a near by power pool. we're told no arrests so far and that the fire caused only minimal damages. one of sandusky's adopted sons says he too was a victim of child abuse. the 33-year-old said he had been ready to testify against his father. the news comes as jurors began deliberating the sexual abuse charges against jerry sandusky. if convicted he could spend the rest of his life behind bars. here in the bay area it was

day two of an emotionally charged trial that reinvolves around allegations of molestation and revenge. a man named will lynch is on trial for beating up a priest who he says molested him as a child. as robert handa explains, there was a destruction outside of the courtroom that resulted in the jury being sent home. >> reporter: it was deb lucas who got attention today. >> deb said look me in the eye and she was able to at last look father l -- linder in the eye as an adult. >> reporter: the priest has been accused in several cases. lindsay's mother was greatful for today's outburst. >> she needed to say it. you have to get it out.
