york. red sox and the braves, dodgers try to wrap up a victory against the angels in anaheim leading 3-1 in the 9th inning there. great action all across the big leagues going on as we speak and madison bumgarner, he and the giants have a chance to make it 2-0 against the a's. josh reddick who is two for three with a home run in this game takes off, 1-1. bumgarner now over 100 pitches so giants will get the bullpen going. in what has been a tough evening for bumgarner, the first two innings a struggle, that is for sure. first lefthanded hitter to homer against bumgarner all year. count 2-0. now 3 balls and a strike. sergio romo, the righthander getting loose. we could see romo in the game pretty quickly.

about. giants are a contending team in the west and certainly in the wild card race in the national league. the athletics had a good year for oakland but the young players liked josh reddick, first full year as an everyday major leaguer. cespedes with superstar potential and then the young pitching you were talking about earlier in the telecast. >> eric: parker. >> dave: i think oakland could be pretty good but they have had injury problems, consistency problems from the young kids and haven't put the pieces together. but i think the right pieces are there for them to put a great team forward. >> eric: it will take a little while but they have the right manager in place in bob

day-to-day operation. he is as good with numbers as any coach i have been around and has a passion for the game and it works very well because they feed off each other. here is chip, the energizer bunny and then bob who generally is reserved, but then i think that plays very well with a young team because you are not going to see the panic at the top. you see curt young there as well, we talked about him earlier. everybody in the a's organization happy to see him back as well. >> dave: norris would not swing, 1 and 1. a's trying to rally here, down four. last time up, he got his first big league hit off madison bumgarner. one to remember for the young catcher and they did save the baseball. strike 2 to norris. there it is with the authentic

stamp on there. that is the ball. >> eric: well there it is but what we did not show you is they pulled a switcheroo, throwing another ball in the stands hoping norris would see that at second base and panic a little bit. >> dave: he looked pretty calm to me but he could be in a panic now as this is not a good place to be. reddick breaks for third and makes it safely. daring base running. if you are down by five runs, two outs, already in scoring position. he better make it. that would have been an unbelievable mistake. romo just a little bit late. i guess there is some value to that but not exactly sure what josh was thinking about there.

that deal. >> eric: well, the a's are constantly wheeling and dealing and they will have some trades that benefit them, benefit both teams and a few that will benefit the other team, andre ethier one of those. >> dave: dodgers and ethier finished off the angels, that game now finished 3-1. still 2-2 to norris and romo strikes him out, swinging. romo gets three strikeouts out of the bullpen and the a's do not score. not score. 3-1 in the coliseum, 9-4 giants it was soccer, and ballet, and cheerleading, and baseball. those years were crazy.

wowed mota, affeldt a critical part of that giants pen. >> lopez as well in the matchup with the lefty on lefty. >> dave: ground ball to inge, throws out theriot. melky procedure ra comes up with the bases empty and one out. it is a tight race and some real talented outfielders for the national league. giants have helped melky cabrera and he is in position as of now to start the all-star game, kemp, beltran, braun in pursuit but cabrera in the third spot. >> eric: boy, that is tight. >> dave: cabrera in the national league. he spent 2010 with the braves in the nl but most of his career, has been an american leaguer. and of course came over from the

yankees. >> eric: what surprises me is that he was actually able to overtake braun. >> dave: passionate brewers fans, braun having a good year himself. >> eric: and molina, both of those guys having big-time years. >> dave: big-time trade for the giants. a lot of folks thought the royals won that trade as sanchez had struggled mightily and cabrera has backed up his very good year, last year so far and even better this season. there is a strike. full count 3-2 to melke. >> eric: well, it was a steal it, really was. and a lot of people questioned whether cabrera was able to repeat what he did last year in kansas city. kansas city is not a great hitter's club. he had over 200 hits last year. now, if you look at his year in atlanta which wasn't very good, he struggled at times with the

yankees but he wasn't the player he is now. he showed up in san francisco this year on a mission to prove last year was not an aberration. >> dave: pops this one up and inge with all that territory at the coliseum circles under it and makes the catch. next saturday, these a's will be in arlington to take on the west-leading rangers after indicate ter league play. astros will meet the rockies. and several other games. a full night of baseball in america, next saturday, 7:00 p.m. eastern, 4:00 p.m. pacific, only on fox. big ovation for the giants fans here for buster posey, having a big day. a couple of walks, been on base three times, ninth home run of the year. >> eric: you mention the

giants fans and i credit them for giving the votes to buster posey and cabrera, enough of them to overtime, two guys having great years. >> dave: the comebacker and he can't make a play so he scorches another one for his second hit of the game. >> eric: what has been incredible for me is how much reputation the giants have when they go into opposing ball parks, particularly san diego. you saw it in anaheim. obviously looking for some sort of mixture herbut it seems like since 2010, this giants fan base has taken on a life of its own. >> dave: old-time francse, been around 130 years and a passionate fan base through most of that time, but 2010 did change things. giants on the road now are one

of the top draws in baseball. angel bagan, part of this refurbished giant offense with a hit and a walk in this game. he scored a couple of runs. >> eric: have to call them the three amigos. >> dave: all starters, all performers, all brand-new. that is hard to do. >> eric: a little different from the water buffalos in 2010. >> dave: quite well. buffalo had burrell. dodgers had torres who played a major role in that 2010 season, traded for pagan. least now the giants won and won handily. torres has struggled. angel pagan has been excellent. >> eric: and really consistent. three different hit streaks of 11 games. i mentioned that earlier. at one point, i believe he reached base in 46 of 48 games -- or hit in 46 of 48 games. >> dave: a's and giants in the offseason made some really productive moves. pagan takes ball 4. so norberto having problems with his command, walks pagan. posey to second. two on, two out, sandoval coming up and bob melvin will make another pitching change. fifth pitcher of the game coming
