away so market street is open to traffic right now. it will not be the case for much longer. there are thousands, tens of thousands, large crowds expected today and they are here for crowd control. last year, close to 1 million people showed up for sf pride weekend celebration. including the tens of thousands of people who show up to watch the parade. they are expecting attendance to be even higher. >> there are 200 groups and many of them have floats. we have a preview of some of the floats this weekend. they were built up over pier 54. some people are criticizing the parade for becoming too corporate and too organized. >> they plan to protest this parade. parade organizers say sponsorships let them put on a well organized professional event that raises a lot of money for lbg .

all three victim resist expected to survive. it is not clear what led up to the gunfire. police told us it may be tied to a dispute over a drug deal. in other overnight news, a man is in critical condition following a chase at san lee around doe. it -- san leandro, they were chasing two suspects and it crashed into a freeway retaining wall. they arrested one man at the scene the and second man jumped over trying to get away. >> he fell 30 feet and taken to the hospital. highway patrol is looking for a driver who may have been involved in a fatal crash in mountain view. >> it p happened near evelyn avenue 6:30 last night. chp said a woman in her 20s. crashed into a tree and she died at the scene. they are now looking for a second vehicle that left the

scene. it as white toyota camry with five j nm316. it is unclear how the car may be involved. >> they rescued a man who crash need an embankment. it ended up 30 feet down the hill and in the creek. they had to use a ladder to bring him up to safety. it is not clear what caused him to lose control of his car. we should know within 48 hours, the cause of the fire that closed down the bart system. they began the investigation and it is next to the oakland bart station. they are expected to announce today or tomorrow whether the fire was arson or an accident. the flames forced bart to halt train service across the bay for 12 hours creating a chaotic commute. a woman is arrested for allegedly setting a villejo

parents and teachers are vowing to continue the protest against five oakland elementary schools. about 200 people marched from the plaza to lake view elementary yesterday. they want the school superintendent to resign and the district to reopen the schools. some teachers and parents have been holding a sit in and teaching summer school at lake view for the past minute month and a half. >> you don't ve to close the schools. they did not, contrary to what they have been saying, work with the community. the community was blindsided. >> demonstrators propose cutting staff instead of closing schools and the the district said it would cover costs in state funding. a teacher from antioch is back home safe after a whale sung his boat. they are sure glad he is home and alive.

in san francisco. this parade about to get underway in under two hours. how is it looking down there. >> it is busier. and we are at market and beale street and you can see the floats and groups taking part in the parade. staging in the area of market and beale and we are told that that intersection, will be completely filled with floats. market street is roped off and organizers have been here since early this morning diverting traffic and making sure market street stays clear and even though we are two hours away from the parade. there are people who have set up their chairs and staked out a good spot to watch the parade. we got an update from the parade director. he said the crowd estimates for today. anywhere from 550,000 to 750,000 people expected to watch the san francisco pride parade and that is based on the

wanted to make sure they got a good vantage point. beall and market street is the start of the parade route. off in the distance you can see -- we counted four floats staging in that area right now. we are expect ming more to set up there in the next half an hour to 45 minutes. the parade starts at 10:30. this is where it will leave from. and over to the right you can see on the corner a lot of people are getting ready to watch the parade. they have their costumes on, and lots of people walking around getting ready for everything to begin here. thousand, we got an estimate from the parade director who says the crowd estimate for today is anywhere from 500 to 750,000 spectators. that's based on the crowd estimates from last year's parade. that makings it the biggest pride parade in the country. second biggest in the world. second only to sau paolo in brazil. and also one of the oldest. the first pride parade happened back in san francisco back in 1970. back then there were just a couple hundred people.

>> i think it's clear our community is changing, transforming. everyone refers to the gay '90s. now that we've moved into two decades since then, we've really seen our community sort of grow in scope. in terms of our recognition, in terms of rights. >> reporter: now there are about 200 floats and groups taking part in the parade. some of them from the organization's corporate sponsors. some people have criticized the pride parade and celebration for becoming what they say is too commercialized, too corporatized. a group called occupride plans to stage a protest although they have promised organizers that they would not disrupt the event. but in response to parade organizers point out that those corporate sponsorships allow them to keep this event free and accessible for everyone. if organizers said they respect the occupride's group, their right to free speech and make their feelings known but they hope there isn't a major disruption and are certainly not expecting that this morning. you're looking at the staging area for some floats.

involved in a fatal crash in mountain view. it happened on highway 85 near evalynn avenue at 6:30 last night. c.h.p. says a woman in her 20s crashed into a tree on the side of the freeway. she died at the scene. investigators are now looking for a second vehicle that left that scene. it's a white toyota camry with the license plate number 5jnm316. at this point, it's still unclear whether the two cars collided or if the car contributed to the crash in some way. firefighters in sonoma county rescued a man who crashed into an embankment last night. he drove his car right off east katadi avenue and ended up 30 feet down a hill into a creek. using a ladder system firefighters were able to bring him up to safety. firefighters say he suffered moderate injuries and it's not clear what caused the man to lose control of his car. we should know within 48 hours the cause of that huge fire that shut down bart service across the bay. an elite team of federal arson

working five days a week after reaching a deal with governor jerry brown. the service employees international union reps about half of the state's 182,000 workers. the leaders of that union announced the agreement late yesterday. and under that deal, salaries will be cut 4.6% for one year, starting july 1. in exchange, union employees will be able to take eight more hours off per month, and the big news, there will be no four-day work week as the governor originally proposed. that could mean many state agencies will remain open on fridays. stockton may soon become the biggest american city to file for bankruptcy. tomorrow is the deadline for talks between the city and its creditors. the next day the city council may adopt a special budget to cover its projected $26 million deficit in case it files for bankruptcy. if negotiations fail, stockton's lawyers could file for chapter 9 bankruptcy on wednesday. the supreme court is expected to hand down its ruling on president obama's healthcare act in the next 23u days.

analysts expect justices to strike down at least part, if not the entire law. supporters of the affordable care act say it benefits everyone from seniors to children. more than 3 million young adults under the age of 26 are now covered under their parents' healthcare plans because of the law. a bad cold and an asmatic can lead to an emergency room visit and an increased need for medications and increased costs. >> i would have to have insurance. i mean i don't think goikd without. >> contribution of the healthcare act oppose the provision whereby everyone must buy health insurance, or face a fine starting in 2014. a poll out today shows most americans oppose the president's healthcare reform, although they support most of its provisions. the new poll indicates 55% of respondents are against the act, while 44% favor it. it's a much different picture when you break down individual provisions. 82% support banning insurance companies have denying coverage to people with preexisting

conditions. 61% like the provision allowing children to stay on their parents' insurance until the age of 26. we have new information this morning about a fast- moving grass fire in solano county. flames were first spotted at pleasant valley and vac okay valley roads around 6:30 last night. fire investigators say they believe a birdlanded on an electrical we are ignites sparks which burned a utility pole and started the fire. flames came within a few yards of homes but no structures were damaged. the fire burned about five acres. a nearby vegetation fire became a road hazard on 101 in san francisco. the first call came at 4:40 yesterday afternoon. near the 101/280 split. smoke passed over the roadway forcing highway patrols to briefly shut down two southbound lanes of 101 near silver avenue. a tropical storm warning has been issued as tropical storm debby hits the gulf coast with wind and rain. this is new video into our newsroom. debby could reach hurricane strength within the next few days.

the storm is already interfering with oil and gas production in the gulf region. that's raising the possibility of higher gas prices across the country. one tornado linked to the big storm has touched down in southwest florida. the twister damaged homes, businesses and cars in east napless. many people say they watched the tornado rip apart their community. >> and i actually saw if water come out of the canal, and it was swinking around and the ducks were being thrown in the air. >> felt like it was spin in a circle. then boom, boom, boom. >> the trees were like breaking. >> one person was hurt when he was hit by a falling tree limb, but there are no reports of any serious injuries. a san leandro businessman's goal to encircle the city with a fiberoptic loop is back on the fast track. executive patrick kennedy is bank rolling the $3 million project called lit san leandro and he's not confident it's all

mostly clear over the oakland estuary. a westerly breeze for the afternoon and a mild pattern holding for sunday. the top story this morning, it's one of the biggest gay pride celebrations in the world, and it all culminates in san francisco today with a huge parade. k.t.v.u.'s allie rasmus is live from san francisco this morning, where the parade is about to get under way, ali, in less than an hour. are you seeing unusual floats out there? >> reporter: definitely a lot of colorful floats and decorations out here. right now we're on beall street between market and howard. this is a staging area for the floats involved in this parade. there's about 200 groups taking part in the san francisco pride parade. some have their own floats like this one here. this is the san francisco l.g.b.t. community center float. they're celebrating their 10th anniversary which is why they have the birthday cake decoration out here. again, close to 200 contingents. some have their own floats there. you see the city of berkeley has its own float. up there on the top. bart has its own float, san

francisco's zoo, also. and we pan to the left, you can see some of the other floats staging here behind us. let's turn the camera around this direction so you can see some of the corporate sponsors of this event also have their own floats. there's a whole foods float with a giant glitter, looks like a beach on top of it, and then stoli vodka has a float. the parade starts at 10:30 this morning. the main route is on market street. on market street the crowd continues to grow this morning. some people started setting up chairs along the barricades as early as 8 a.m. to get a good spot. organizers expect as many as 500 to 750,000 people to turn out. that makes san francisco's pride parade the largest in the country. it's also one of the largest in the world. the only one larger is in sao paolo, brazil. where they get about 4 million spectators. this is also one of the oldest in the country, it's 42 years

old. >> i wanted to come here because this is where pride originally started, from harvey milk. >> seeing all the different people. just having a good time, everybody hanging loose, and everybody's in good spirits. >> we just enjoy being out here with all these people. it's so much fun, and it's just -- it's just a great day to be here. >> reporter: we showed you some of the floats organized by some of the corporate sponsors of this event. some people have criticized the celebration and parade for becoming what they say is too commercialized, too corporatized. a group called occupride plans to stage a protest although the group has promised organizers they would not disrupt the parade. in response, however, parade organizers point out that corporate sponsorships allow them to keep this event free. other pride celebration and festivals charge a gate or an entrance fee. this particular event this weekend, most of the events are free and accessible to everyone. it's one of the things that

and affordable housing. the tensions are mounting after syria shot down a turkish fighter jet in training on friday. nato this morning announced its governing body will meet tuesday to discuss this issue. syria claims the plane flew into syrian air space, which turkey denies. this incident also shows syria relying on russian-made air defenses, which is a major concern among some western powers. a few hours ago, a chinese space craft carrying three astronauts successfully docked with an orbiting module. this is a first for china as it try tries to match the u.s. and russia in space exploration. the dock was broadcast live on national television and one of the chinese astronauts is a 33- year-old woman. four people died in a small plane crash in oregon. the plane crashed right after takeoff yesterday afternoon, in a rural area west of eugene. witnesses say it lost altitude and hit a tree which tore a wing off the plane. the pilot and the three passengers on that plane died. their outs haven't been

released. the national transportation safety board is investigating. a chicago family very lucky this morning after surviving an accident that had their car bursting into flames on the freeway. there you see this video of that fire under way. this happened yesterday morning. police say that car was actually in the left lane when it got a flat tire. as the driver try toed make his way across the freeway his car was hit by another car. two young children were in the back seat. >> the impact on that vehicle thrust the entire front into the back seat where the children were sitting. the gas tank erupted shortly after that, after the family got out. >> one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. cleanup in the northeast minnesota area is just beginning after flooding earlier this week. families in duluth are salvaging what's left of their water logged homes. wednesday's flag floods wiped out streets and triggered mudslides. people were told to evacuate
