it broke out at 2:30 this afternoon. here you can see news chopper 2 on the way to the scene. a teen on a bicycle opened fire of a driver, the shots hit the fire who was walking with his mother and other children. the 10-year-old is in critical condition but expected to survive. fires burning in santa clara county today in an effort to prevent wildfires this summer. ktvu's robert handa is live with the operation and why it is so risky. robert? >> reporter: with all this dry vegetation you can see why today cal fire set off the first in a series of burns in the south bay, soon hundreds of acres will bioteched to head off -- be touched to head off -- torched to head off fires. >> reporter: they swept in

wind shifts. the fire can bump the control line so we have to be ahead of it. >> reporter: today's burn went well. as you heard, they plan a 300- acre burn soon but first they will burn 100 acres on monday. live, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. there is word of an arrest after shots were fired during a marijuana raid. it happened this afternoon. officials say wardens and the sheriff's deputies were fired on during a marijuana farm raid. authorities returned fire hitting a suspect who then escaped. later officials say a wounded man called 911 and transported to a hospital. that man is now under arrest on growing marijuana. investigators announced today the fire in oakland that

upheld the affordable care act. we have live team coverage on this ruling. ktvu's ken pritchett is live in oakland with what it means for uninsured californians. ken? >> reporter: to be sure this ruling will have an impact on all of us, the biggest change is for those who do not qualify for assistance. millions will be insured who currently are not. >> reporter: how will the affordable care act effect people? >> same for me. >> reporter: his job doesn't provide insurance will be covered. >> i am not trying to -- couldn't afford to go to the doctor. >> uninsured californians will almost all have some option for coverage. >> reporter: she says the affordable care act will impact people differently.

she was not hurt. ricardo sandoval faces robbery, carjacking and kidnapping and false imprisonment charges. a driver killed last night in san jose was traveling as fast as 120 miles per hour before he lost control. happened 11:20 last night. the chp says the driver was a 24-year-old man but is not releasing his name at this point. the man charged in the fatal decision last month, he plead not guilty to two counts of vehiclal manslaughter. this is new video today of the memorial at the accident site. two were killed in the collision. a sales tax hike is set to take effect in santa clara county in a few days.
