fireworks come the holiday this station will have one lessening in, that one available to respond on what is an explosive night. today the engine here sat idle one of two stations impacted by closures. >> we need all the resources we can get. >> reporter: despite the concerns oakland is put approximating in brown outs, something the union agreed to in 20112 in the face of a budget crisis. that means from now until the end of next june two fire companies will be out of service for three straight days which one station completely closed. >> they shouldn't close them. . >> reporter: nancy lives a few blocks from station 17 which was close today. she said having eight fewer on the street this week is to great a risk. especially when illegal fireworks are such a big problem here. to her it doesn't make sense. >> no it surely doesn't.

blood stains on his clothing. he was able to drive himself to a hospital where he was treated and released. a tracking team with dogs was dispatched to the area to try to locate him. officials with the department of fish and game say once they find the animal they plan to kill it because they worry it could attack again. more details, officials say attacks are very rare. the record shows only 17 people including yesterday's victim have been attacked in california since 1890. of those six died. it's estimate there's are between 4 and 6 mountain lion in the state. we have posted more video of the sleeping bag and clothing from that attack. you will find it in the video player right on the front page. >> school students in american canyon are in shock tonight after a 17-year-old driver was struck and killed in a traffic accident. the crash happened on rural lakeville highway in san sonoma

fire said incidents like this are getting more common. he estimates one a day somewhere around the bay area. home else people are moving in to abandoned homes and not just here. in oakland a house fire killed one man just last week. the people in the home were there illegally after the first one died. >> we are starting to see more fires as a result of people in home that have been foreclosed and people occupy the homes. >> reporter: the danger most often comes when the utilities have been disconnected and the new residents have to do other things. >> they cook or wanting warmth in a home with open flame and that will be a problem. >> reporter: you can see there is still food on the stove here. fire officials don't want to encourage anybody to squat but say they need to use battery powered lights and no open flames for heating. they say that's to dangerous.

3500 nurses plan to walk off the job tomorrow. they are planning a one day strike. nurses say they are protesting a long list of issues involving health coverage, sick leave and staffing. the affected hospitals include the three summit campuses in berkeley and oakland, eden in castro valley, san leandro and mill's peninsula in san mateo. >> the girlfriend of the late thomas kinkaide won a round in court in what promises to be a long dispute over his estate. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> reporter: today a judge decided the case would be heard in open court, not in private arbitration as the widow wanted. his girlfriend is filed two barely legible wills, seen here in a moment saying that he left her his south bay estate and ten million dollars to set up a museum of his work.
