>> thank you. we do have some fog from san francisco south. now yes it got chew up by a north wind. today it looks like it might hang in there for awhile but we should be okay tonight. 80s to near 90 degrees. good morning, northbound 280 traffic looks good if you are driving through san jose looking at the chp list we don't have anything unusual. such a light day. we always watch for crashes. we've had earlier crash northbound 101 near candle stick but that's on the shoulder not causing any major delays. let's go back to mike and claudine. happening right now police are looking for four children that are missing from their north oakland home. ktvu alex savidge is joining us live from oakland chinos hospital where another child living at that home is being treated for critical injuries. >> reporter: the search for those four missing kids was launched after one of their siblings a three-year-old boy was rushed here to children's hospital where he is being treated this morning. reportedly he was the victim of

a near drowning. the boy was said to be unresponsive at a bathtub in his home. but according to reports he was dry and had clothes on when paramedics arrived at the house. the boys babysitter that had been watching him was arrested along with the boy's mother and stepfather on suspicion of child abuse. but right now they can't find the four other children. they believe other relatives are hiding those kids. they are not cooperating with investigators. we want to show you the descriptions of the names of those missing children. >> reporter: no descriptions or photos have been released by police so far this morning. all of those children are african american. based on the condition of the boy at the hospital police say he suffered signs or showing signs of child abuse both

current child abuse and past child abuse injuries is what police are reporting this morning. obviously they are very concerned about the well being of those four other children the siblings of the boy here at the hospital if you know where they are or know how to find them obviously put in a call to oakland police. live in oakland alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. sheriffs deputies say a cupertino woman hid in her house as two burglars ransacked it for jewelry. it happened yesterday morning on cordova road. the woman was able to call 911 but the suspects got away. this however is a sketch of one of the suspects. anyone with information on the burglar is asked to contact the santa clara county sheriffs office. back east many fire works shows planned for tonight have been canceled due to the ongoing power outages and cleanups from friday's violent storm. coming up we'll have a live report from washington, d.c. with the status of the fire works show on the national mall. police found dozens of home

made fire works in his home. police went to the house on 22nd street after receiving a tip inside they found 63 explosive twices and handgun. they arrested 44-year-old jerry lopez a convicted felon. he was charged with possession of explosives, fire works, and firearm. police sent us a photo of some of the home made fire works. overall those fire works were the equivalent of 2.5 sticks of dynamite. >> these are some of the types bay area law enforcement want to keep off the streets. noelle walker is in gilroy with the fire works threat this fourth of july. >> gilroy is one of the places that you can legally set off fire works but it doesn't mean any kind of fire works. we will talk here to jim crawford who is a battalion chief with cal fire to explain what is legal and what is illegal. the packaging i have to say looks very similar. >> sure. as we were looking through some

of these you see it's the same company that would be selling fire works that are illegal in california where they might be legal somewhere else. >> reporter: i'm looking at these for instance. are those legal? >> these are legal. you can see on there there is a safe and sane state fire marshals stamp that has been put on to the fire work. >> but that looks similar to this. >> reporter: sure. expect it's in the design on how these work. if you read into it. this is something that flies up in the air. doesn't have a state fire marshals stamp but the items once inside are it will goes up into the sky. >> we have i have owe to show you -- we have video to show you. in oakland those illegal fire works are set off. when you are looking at setting them off, the biggest difference to know between safe and sane and illegal is what? >> basically anything that flies into the air anything

that explodes, anything that has some kind of unpredictable movement that might occur with it will be illegal in california. >> reporter: and every year you must see injuries and fires associated with these. >> we have in california 8500 injuries that occur every year from fire works. many are treated at the emergency room which means the rest of your 4th of july is ruined because you are penning time in the emergency room to get fixed up. yeah we have seen people that have that but most of them go through the emergency room to get treated. >> reporter: we will be here all morning talking with jim giving you tips about fire works safety and also later on we'll tell you cities that you are able to burn fire works the safe and sane kind. reporting live in gilroy noelle walker. 4th of july festivities are planned all around the bay area today. lorraine blanco is live this morning in danville where a parade will kick off in just about three hours. lorraine. >> reporter: good morning, mike. this years theme for the

danville fourth of july spread is small-town values, big heart. you can see they already dressed the businesses here in re, white, and blue. and thousands of people have lined up their lawn chairs marking off a spot to view the annual parade. here's a look at last years parade. every year local veterans and other military are a big part of the festivities. the route runs from the corner of hearts and railroad avenues and ends at san ramon valley bailiff and sic mother valley road. proceeds from today's festivities go to local charities. it's free to watch and wave. the parade kicks off at 9:00 a.m.. if you are looking for something fun they will host a red, white, and blue picnic. there will be live music there and a salute to the armed forces. back out here live you can see again thousands of chairs lined up and ready to go.

it's getting biggier and bigger we hear every year for this parade. we are expecting people in these chairs in the next few hours. reporting live in dan vail lorraine blanco. ktvu.com has a special tab dedicated to the 4th of july holiday. it includes an interactive map where you can find many of the fire works displays. let's head over to sal. sal, the roads may be empty now but a lot of people will be going to barbecues and fire works. >> that's right. you should be careful when you drive around because chp is doing more enforcement today on the holiday. let's take a look at what we have driving wise. it is still light of course out there. this is a look at the toll plaza and you will not see any delays really coming up to get into san francisco. also the morning commute on interstate 880 looks very good in front of the oakland coliseum. not much of a commute. some people are going but most are not. if you are driving in contra costa county even highway 4 is

through the speed limit. 680 looks good. 608 let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. a very good morning. kind of quiet. we do have some fog making its way up the coastline into the city. but then it puts on the air breaks. pretty good thunderstorm complex entering southern california. but keep an eye on things if you are up in that direction or down in that direction for us fog will get wiped out yesterday. everybody was in on the sunshine and temperatures warmed up. today fog starting to come back again. hawaii pressure will still give inland temps 80 to near 90 degrees. i don't think there will be any more north wind tea. by the coast around the bay 60s and 70s after that morning fog. low 50s for some. santa rosa. oakland airport 52. san jose 56. west, southwest 17 been up to 20. we'll see if it starts to decrease or increase.

there is a little component of an on shore breeze. system coming in tomorrow will work its way toward. that will lift the fog. we will start to deal with a lot more fog and cooler pattern. it will be mild to warm to hot depending on your proximity to the coast. 88 fairfield after yes' 90. 90 antioch. oakland 72. danville 87. 88 for gilroy. cupertino 82. san jose all around 80. a little warmer out toward reid airport. low 70s for some and then palo alto redwood city close to 80. saturday looks to be about that transition time and sunday inland looks warmer. the plane ticket controversy in the ross mirkarimi case. the city's response.

it took hours three hours and 250 firefighters to knock down a fast moving brush fire in los angeles county. that fire started about 9:00

last night in a rural area and spread pretty quickly because they had winds up to 30 miles an hour fanning those flames. the fire burned more than 200 acres. there are several ranches in that area but fortunately they were not threatened and the cause of that fire is under investigation. the largest wild fire in colorado history is 80% contained. as c-130 air tankers once again held off efforts to contain that fire. after being grounded following that fatal crash in south dakota over the weekend. storms that hit the eastern part of the country last friday have led to the cancellation of some 4th of july celebrations. stacy cohan is in washington, d.c. where the show at the national mall is scheduled to go on. stacy. >> reporter: it is scheduled to go on. we have big name talent in town

as we do for this great 4th of july celebration. we is phillip phillips from the american idol show and a dancing with the stars fan we have tom the host. we will be hosting our 4th of july celebration. this despite some tremendous and damaging storms that came through our region on friday. workers have been busy trying to clean up and to set up for the fire works show that is scheduled to begin tonight. and i can tell you that the show will go on. nearby communities have of course delayed or canceled their displays due to that storm damage and soring temperatures. but in the nation's capital the show must go on. >> what makes me feel patriotic is all the memorials. people that are being respectful about our country. >> it turn out our travel time was during the 4th of july. what a great place to be on the 4th of july.

obrador. we are hearing about offshore holings by mitt romney. for nearly 15 years romney's financial portfolio has include an offshore company based in bermuda that was not listed on any of his state or federal financial reports. associated press says the company is among several of romney's holdings that have not been fully disclosed. including one that posted earnings of $1.9 million. the omissions are permitted by state and federal rules on ethics filings. mayor ed lee says the city will not use taxpayer money to fly ross mirkarimi's wife back to san francisco from her native venezuela. eliana lopez can provide video taped tom later this -- taped testimony later this month. mayor lee has suspended her husband as san francisco sheriff and charged him with

official misconduct. series of small earthquakes shook the area near pacifica last night. the most recent one a 2.8 magnitude hit at 10:15pm. the san andre yeah fault runs through that part of the peninsula. for the first time the fishing is not only expected to be good for the economy and tourism but good because it improved the lakes clarity. the fishing will only be allowed in nebraska for now but there is talk of expanding it to the california side. time now is 6:18 let's head back out to sal to see if things are pretty light out there. >> they are pretty light out there. unfortunately weapon it's really -- when it's really light they have people driving too fast. this is a look at highway 24. it is looking pretty good with no major problems coming out

overcast down through san jose. i don't think it will make it up to tahoe. for us some of that fog looks like it will lose out. i still think the fog gets chew up. lake tahoe forecast looks pretty good. afternoon highs upper 70s and low 80s for some. little cooler as you head toward friday but sunny. 50s on the temps. 51 santa rosa. 52 oakland airport. 56 san jose. 58 out toward travis. but they do have a west, southwest 17-20 miles an hour. little low pressure system will work its way in tomorrow. tomorrow morning we'll have an increase in the fog. after today fog, sun, warm. cool morning, breezy. inland not a problem. it will be clear. the coast should be okay. some of that fog might be working its way back. more likely tonight late

tonight into tomorrow morning. fog will be on an increase. looks warmer on sunday. general motors may be reconsidering the decision to stop advertising on facebook. gm and social network are discussing a plan for the car maker to pay for ads again. they have been courting gm since they pulled all of its advertising two months ago. facebook isn't pushing for an immediate gm return but offering to show information on the effectiveness of the sites paid ads. general motors is the third largest advertiserring in the u.s.. high speed internet connections and high powered mobile devices for changing the viewing habits. they have been trying to get people to down load video rather than rent dvds. it is a major disappointment for fans of competitive eating. why joey won't go jaw to jaw today with his arch nemesis.

some low clouds and fog otherwise it's mainly clear. temperatures 60s and 70s coast and bay. still warm to hot inland. a minor league coach for the oakland a's organization has been banned from the dugout for a year. california league suspended him for telling his pitchers to intentionally balk players to end an extra inning game last month. he ran out of pitchers in a game that medesto ended up winning. that game lasted more than five hours. at least nine people are injured including two children after a fire works explosion in new hampshire. police say a batch of fire works blew up on the back deck. neighbors say it sounded like gunshots going off. it caused a fire and did fill that home with smoke.

there were 30 people inside at the time. neighbors say the owner of the home puts on a large fire works display every year. ultimately what we want to do is make sure that you know nobody gets hurt or anything catches on fire. >> oakland police will have extra patrols across the city to target illegal fire works and people that fergons into the air. officers estimate they receive about 250 such calls every 4th of july. >> thousands of people turned out in richmond for an early 4th of july celebration. fire works it will up the skies over the cities marie that district. earlier in the eve thing there were performances. the celebration was hosted by the city of richmond and private businesses. richmond residence say they hope there will be more events like this that promote richmond

man was scratched by the big cat. search dogs picked up the scent near the site. there is no way to tell if it is the same animal. the jury in an emotionally charged trial in santa clara county has gone home without reaching a verdict. the parents of the defendant marched with supporters outside the san jose courthouse yesterday. the march came after the first full day of jury deliberations. lynch is accused of beating a priest he says molested him when he was a little boy. deliberations are scheduled to resume tomorrow. they have identified the two suspects accused of setting off the fire in the bay view neighborhood. no one was hurt but the suspicious fire damaged four homes. today's chronicle identity identified the two suspects. both are believed to be squatters.

city college of san francisco could be on the brink of shutting down. today's chronicle reports they have eight months to prove they should stay in business or risk the loss of its accreditation. the decision comes after an education panel cited the college for failing to fix long- standing problems in leadership and financial planning. city college of san francisco is california's largest college with 90,000 students. the 49ers have scored a legal victory in their fight to get back $30 million in stadium funds. yesterday a judge barred the school districts in santa clara county from spending the money. and signaled he may soon give it back to the team. last month the county voted to pull $30 million out of the stadium project saying it would rather use the money to improve schools. the 49ers strongly objected saying voters had earmarked that money for the stadium. >> more than a million people are still without power after last weekends deadly storms in the midwest and mid atlantic.

coming up how those people are trying to stay cool in the sweltering heat this 4th of july. tonight's fire works show is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people and all are hoping for clear skies. pyrotechnic specialist gave ktvu a sneak peek of their setup. more than 600 individual fire works shells will be blasted from a barge in the bay. every year spectators line the waterfront from golden gate to treasure island and everyone hoping the fog doesn't spoil their view. >> if you can't stay up late for the fire work there is is plenty of 4th of july fun happening this morning. lorraine blanco joining us live right now along a parade route in danville and a lot of chairs behind you already. >> reporter: yes, there are, mike. and people have also marked off their spots here on chalk on the sidewalk. it has been out here since 6:00 p.m. last night. thousands more have lined up their lawn chairs as you said. and here's a look at last years

4th of july parade. every year local veterans and active military are big part of the danville celebration. more than 40,000 people are expected towhead downtown today to take -- head downtown today to take in the festivities. it ends at san ramon valley boulevard. people that have lived here for decades tell us it's amazing how big the parade is now. >> the first couple years we were here i don't know 2,000 people. 3,000 would you say? it has just escalated from there. it's just grown and grown. >> reporter: back out here live this years parade theme is danville. small town values, big hearts. the parade kicks off at 9:00 a.m. this morning. reporting live lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. >> many bay area communities are hosting parades.

san jose rose, white, and blue parade. praise also kick off in alameda, napa, enneagon card at 10 -- and concord at 10:00 a.m.. and ross at 11:00 a.m.. 4th of july is one of the deadliest days on the road. last night the california highway patrol and local police agencies started increasing dui patrols. we row along with a santa clara police deputy. they have a plan how to monitor drivers. >> speeding up, slowing down. unable to maintain the lane they are driving in. drifting from lane to lane. >> chp is also reminding people to buckle up. they say more than 80% of people killed in traffic related traffics during last years 4th of july holiday may have survived if they had been wearing their seat belts. expect to see a lot of chp on the road tea. >> everywhere. >> everywhere as they do

maximum enforcement. sal watching the roads as well. >> that is right. we do have traffic out there this morning. some of it any way. we've had a couple minor accidents out there. this is a look at 237. it's not a bad commute at all. as a matter of fact, we are looking pretty good if you are driving on 237 and on nearby 880. and as you might imagine, it's the 4th of july. we don't have a lot of people that do have to go to work. we have some. if that is you, at least you will get a very nice drive through 880. there are no major problem there is. the morning commute on 580 on the onramp there is a crash there. oakland fire and police handling that. the freeway not effected. and the morning drive is looking good on 80 westbound as you drive from pinole and richmond and of course we always watch the san mateo and dumbarton bridge also light for this 4th. let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you. a little bit of fog southern marin county just a tinny bit

good morning. a little bit of fog. it should not matter tonight. temperatures today 60s, 70s and 80s. it will be cooler though starting tomorrow. >> 6:43 on the clock. here's a quick look at the top stories we are following right now. police are concerned about the safety of four children that are missing from their north oakland home. that is following the near drowning of a three-year-old boy that was living at that same house. police arrested the mother, stepfather, and babysitter of the three-year-old on child endangerment and child abuse charges. investigators say family members won't reveal the whereabouts of the other children. deputies have released a sketch of one of the suspects in a burglary in cupertino. two men broke into a home yesterday and ransacked it for jewelry all while a woman was hiding inside the house. and these are some of the illegal fire works seized from a home in san francisco's mission district yesterday.

officers confiscated 63 explosionives and a handgun after receiving a tip. 44-year-old convicted felon was arrested in the case. fire works just a few of them outlined in california. but it is illegal or legal to light up safe and sane fire works in some parts of the state at least. noelle walker is live in gilroy. one of the few places in the bay area that fire works are still legal. noelle. >> reporter: yeah you are looking for a stand like this one that we are at to know the fire works you are buying are legal. they look like this. they have the seal of approval here from the state fire marshal. that is what you need to look for. a lot of people are not satisfied with these that pretty much stick to the ground. you will see this across the bay area where people set off illegal fire works that the big difference is anything that shoots up into the air or explodes may look pretty and you know leave you go ooa and

awe but it could blow somebody's finger off. we are joined now by jim crawford from cal fire thank you so much for getting up early with us. >> good morning. >> reporter: you will explain the difference between safe and sane. we have a table of confiscated fire works and some like this are legal but they look very similar to me. >> sure shapes and sizes have part of it to do with it. if you look at some of these they look similar to each other. the big difference really is how it is that they display whatever fire works that you are looking at. many of these will display shoots of sparks and things like that. if they are approved by the state fire marshal they do not move. they do not fly up in the air they do not explode. those are things that would be unsafe. >> reporter: for some people that is no few. >> if that is the case, there are many displays throughout california where you can go to
