>> we could hear multiple shots. all week long, up till the forth of july. >> reporter: 100 yards from the parking lot is this apartment building where police received a 911 domestic violence call. before they arrived a second 911 call put the suspect and his car in the safeway parking lot. >> as the officers approached the vehicle, the subject exited the vehicle. one of the officers could see immediately he had a hand gun. >> reporter: police say they tasered him when he failed to raise his hands. >> the taser was in effective. they continued to get him to raise his hands and the subject made a movement and went for the gun. >> reporter: police say two officers opened fire in what is the sixth officer involved shooting this year. she can't understand why the suspect had to die.

burglars last night. this is a sketch of one of the burg lers. she called -- burglars. she called 911 to report two men were in the process of breaking into her room. she hid that they took property. they were gone before the deputies arrived. anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office. a grass fire in morgan hill. the fire broke out before noon. firefighters say it took 20 minutes to get the fire under control. the wind helped keep the fire from advancing. >> the wind was in our favor. so it wasn't a running fire. just slowly creeping down the hill. >> it burned one acre. the cause is under investigation. police and fire crews are on the look out for illegal fireworks. ktvu's cara liu went along with

firefighters this afternoon and she is live in oakland. i was hearing fireworks last night already. >> reporter: we were too and we have been hearing them all day long out here. these are used bottle rockets i picked up off the streets. if you look in this neighborhood we were seeing and hearing fireworks. there was another one a moment ago. all this afternoon. >> reporter: they are patrolling neighborhoods here in east oakland. >> driving around looking for anyone who might be setting off fireworks. >> reporter: they have the best forth of july fireworks around the bay, even though they are illegal in oakland. they hope their visibility will be a deterrent for anyone thinking about setting off illegal fireworks. >> it could land on a roof and

the kitten is now in a shelter. a driver was killed when he crashed before 2:00 this afternoon on highway 87. a white truck hit the median and rolled over. the driver died at the scene. no one else was heard. a drop in the number of people driving drunk. ktvu was along for the ride yesterday when the highway patrol began their dui crack down. the chp made 220dui arrests statewide. that is down from last year. in the bay area there were 40 arrests and that is down from 74 last year. 25 immigrants became united states citizens today in a ceremony at the white house. >> i will support and defend

towards the coast, you saw the clouds and right now i can show you this, the coverage, most of the bay area under clear skies. this is what i am watching, fog around pacifica, half moon bay, and there is the clouds through the golden gate bridge. a few patches sneaking into the bay. as far as current numbers, updated, microclimate is making a come back. san francisco 61 degrees. it is also windy out there around the bay, lots of white caps, 20-25 miles per hour. inland, sunshine, lower 80s for concord and livermore. showing you right now, 5:00, clouds, 8:00 tonight, that cloud bank does not go away. not the best news for firefighters. we will be watching because we could have clearing spots.

. in florida you might may find this -- you may find this hard to believe, a lifeguard has been fired for saving a drowning man. he was working on a beach when he went to help a man struggling in the water. after he was pulled off, they helped the man till paramedics arrived, after that he was fired. he fired him because he left the beach that his company is paid to patrol and in doing so left beachgoers in jeopardy. facebook settled a dispute to the tune of $365,000. there was concern about an increase in traffic when facebook expands. the two sides agreed that facebook would make a one time payment to address any prevent concerns. -- any traffic concerns.

twitter helped reunite a dog and the owner. they noticed the dog on a train and sent out a loss dog tweet. after 500 retweets, in 32 minutes the photo found the way to the owner who said that is my dog. soon after they were reunited. joey chestnut won his 6th straight hot dog eating contest on coney island. joey chestnut downed 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes and that ties his previous best which was a world's record. he won $10,000 and won the champion's belt and he wasn't the only winner today. shares are up 40% this year.
