off this morning. the parade featured everything from cars to dancers. >> the stars and stripes were on display in danville's forth of july parade. the floats and marching bands went by. it has a long time tradition of honoring home town military veterans and in san francisco, tonight's fireworks show over the bay, 2500-3,000 fireworks from a peer and a barge to produce the show. and authorities around the bay and in oakland are on the look out for illegal fireworks. ktvu's cara liu went with firefighters today. >> reporter: we have been hearing fireworks all day long out here and i am not talking about these bottle rockets, we are talking about commercial

grade stuff coming up from lot of these neighborhoods. >> reporter: even though fireworks are illegal here in oakland, they are known to have the best fireworks around the bay. and with our dry summer conditions, firefighters are trying to prevent fires and injuries. >> could land on a roof or brush area and cause a fire. >> reporter: they were out patrolling neighborhoods here looking for illegal firefighters. other engines will be doing the same tonight, crews hope their visibility will be a deterrent for anyone thinking about setting off illegal fireworks. you could hear fireworks all day long and you could even see smoke. that went off this afternoon. the officers rushed over but could not track down the folks

responsible. they called in two extra crews that are roving across the city and hills till midnight. >> they will take a type three engine, it could pump and roll so if they see a fire along the road or something they are able to put it out while they are driving. >> reporter: if you are out and about in oakland tonight you will see fireworks as soon as the sun sets and you will see more fire crews than you're used to as well as extra police. cara liu, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the highway patrol shut down a freeway today because of a brush fire that started this afternoon in martinez. smoke forced the closure for an hour. there is no word on what

started the fire. between home cooking, parties and travel, independence dace usually gives the economy a shot in the harm. ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar explains why that may not be the case this year. >> reporter: thousands turned out for the independence day parade, a tradition without an admission fee. >> friends and family and participating in the community. not about spending money. >> reporter: forth of july spending that was $212 last year will be $191 this year. 1-4 americans not participating at all. >> money is tight. nobody has it to spend. hard to stretch the dollar. >> people are holding their money tighter. using it more for necessity.

second officer involved shooting. an officer killed a man who was going for a gun. ktvu's ken pritchett has been following this story and joins us with how it unfolded. ken? >> reporter: this was the crime scene this morning, this safeway parking lot. a 911 call of a man attacking a woman led them here, face to face with an armed man. >> reporter: police say marshall tobin refused to surrender and shot this morning around 3:00 a.m. >> i hurt shots. we have been hearing all week long. >> reporter: police say it started at this apartment building next to the safeway. a 911 call of a domestic violence and then another 911 call that marshall tobin drove to the parking lot.

>> he failed to comply. >> reporter: officers tried to tase him but it was in effective and he went for a gun. >> fearing for their safety, discharged their fire arms. >> reporter: two officers fired and now on administrative leave. that makes four officers on leave, perhaps six, related to shooting, which is taxing for a understaffed apartment. >> shifts are working at minimum. >> reporter: over an hour ago i talked to a family member of the man who was shot, they said this was an argument rather than a fight between family man. this is the sixth officer involved shooting. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. >> four of the officer involved shootings turned deadly. we have more information on the other three.

last saturday officers killed a 17-year-old suspect following a chase. investigators say police shot him when the teen raised a gun at officers. in may two other mechwere shot by police. police -- men were shot by police. he pointed a gun at officers and he was shot and killed following a pursuit and he pulled out what officers thought was a weapon. a body found floating this morning along the umsl is a man who -- along the embarcadero was a man that went missing. it was victor murillo. he was missing since june 25 following a giants-dodgers game. his cause of death hasn't been determined. victor murillo's family plan to take his remains to southern california as soon as they are

permitted. police are searching for a missing girl following child abuse. a boy who lived in the same house is at the hospital after nearly drowning on monday. police arrested arrested the mother, father and babysitter. today three other children were found safe with a relative. it is not clear how the children are related. officers are looking for the 16- year-old girl. a man who police said led them on a chase is in critical condition after his car crashed into a fire hydrant. officers were following a stolen car when the driver hit a bump at high speed this morning. the car went out of control and hit the fire hydrant. the driver was critically

injured. crews are on the hunt for a mountain lion who attacked a man. he malled the man saturday night as he was sleeping. the man managed to escape. they analyzed saliva and they have determined the cat is a female. single vehicle accident killed the driver of a small truck. it happened before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon on highway 87. the driver of the truck was weaving in and out of traffic and hit the center divider. the driver was the only person in the truck. >> reporter: the myway patrol says -- the highway patrol says drunk driving has declined. statewide they arrested 220

people. last year 443 drivers were taken into custody. 40dui arrests in the bay area, compared to 74 last year. one fatal collision and two deaths reported statewide. a bay area family gets the news, their loved one a world war ii airman will finally be laid to arrest. >> a reason to celebrate, the big announcement today that may prove a scientific theory. no, umm, over-easy.

this afternoon when a neighbor spotted smoke. the renters were not hope but crews saved the family pet. the fire is under investigation and the red cross the family. the remains of a marine who has been missing for 70 years have been discovered and are coming home. new at 6:00, we talked to the marine's family about finally getting closure. >> my uncle. >> reporter: he became a marine soon after this picture and he was in the south pacific on a night training mission when his plane crashed, no wreckage found. >> a owner found log books. >> reporter: a relative encouraged by the military

clear inland, coastal fog tomorrow. weekend, a warming trend into sunday. over night lows will be in the 50s for santa rosa and napa. fog coast side and around the bay. partly cloudy skies inland. a weak weather system to the north, this will cool us off thursday but friday high pressure rebuilds, restrengthens and everybody warms back up, especially inland and by sunday and monday, the warmest locations inland on track to reach the low to mid-90s. you will see the numbers go up in the five-day forecast. and the short term, this increases patchy fog at 9:00 tonight. over cast after midnight, factor tonight and tomorrow morning and for tomorrow morning, 7:00 a.m., there is the expected cloud cover out there clearing back to the shoreline and temperatures
