pam and dave have the day off, let's get right to steve and the weather. a little cool down and fog has increased in a big way and that west wind has kicked up. 50s and 60s and 70s and a few lower 80s, here is sal. on the lower deck of the bay bridge, traffic is at a standstill because of a police investigation and we have alex on the scene and he will tell us exactly what happened but if you are looking for an alternative route, chp is seen leaving the bay area for hayward and that's a great alternative. just go and use 192 instead. it is breaking news as we have been telling you from when we went on the air, traffic remains at a standstill from san francisco and oakland, there is police action that led to all of this, good morning

alex. >> reporter: it is extremely slow on the lower deck of the bay bridge and this police investigation is just east of our location and these are the eastbound lanes of bay bridge. investigators out here are piecing together a chp pursuit that ended here on the bay bridge. that pursuit led to a shooting and this was all early this morning and a source we spoke to with knowledge of this investigation said the driver being pursued this morning fired at officers after the culmination of this pursuit. nobody hit by gunfire according to the chp but according to one of our sources, the driver of that car that was being chased, tossed his gun over the bridge and into the bay. the chp is not telling us or confirming who fired the weapons this morning after this pursuit but everything began when officers saw this car speeding and they began to

chase it. thatchiest -- they chased it and we do under -- they chased it and we do understand the driver of the car was injured from the crash not from any sort of shooting. now what the story is, is the traffic mess that you see here and we are at a virtual standstill and only one of the five lanes is getting by right now. investigators are piecing together this shooting and pursuit involving the chp this morning. we will stay out here and stay on top of this throughout the morning. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 morning news. a tree has come crashing down just south side the city's fruit veiled district. this is 20th and 13th avenue, tara moriarty, what is happening? >> reporter: well neighbors were not awake when this tree

fell but they are now because they are trimming and trying to take care of it and the tree lapped on this white car here. we are where city calls have been here for an hour trying to clear this mess. they say it must have been a very large tree here and the roots if you take a look at the ground you can see how they caused the sidewalk to buckle and there is a rope holding the limb so we don't know if the owner holding the tree needs it. but the branches snapped landing on top of the car and we have a shot for you here. the tree is on private property and crews knocked on the door and right now there is no answer. they are going in the wood chipper and they should be here

it happened on 81st and international. police say the driver dragged the bicyclist more than 50 yards. they have not released his name and officers are looking for a silver sedan possibly with a broken windshield. a fire in oakly which burned dangerously close to home. live in oakly with how recent cuts to the fire department almost spelled disaster for that neighborhood. >> reporter: if you take a look behind me, you can see where the smoke is still harboring above here and causing quite a bit of a breathing problem and if we turn around over here, you can see why. the fire started in that field and the blaze started 5:30,

the fire torched almost three acres. they say a lack of local firefighters because of budget cuts increased the danger. >> because of our station closures and only having three engine companies we have to rely on neighboring jurisdictions in order to put a fire out like this. a large grass fire tends to be labor intensive. >> we are told versers stay out late to work it. there were no other reported injuries or damage to homes. coming up in the next half hour, we will talk to some neighbors and show you what they think about what handed out here. reporting live in oakly, lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 morning news. well a young man is in the hospital after falling from the

roof of a petaluma school. it happened shortly after 12:30 this morning. a 19-year-old man tumbled off that roof. he was rushed to the hospital but at this time we do not know the extent of those injuries. but apparently he was with a yup of friends and they called for help. defending will will lynch, and reverand jerold linder is accused of raping will lynch and his brother. he said the beating was triggered by memories of a alleged abuse. coming up at 615, the

operation the president may face in at least one of his campaign stops. let's get back to sal with more breaking news on the lower deck of the bay bridge, sal? it is very busy this morning on the lower deck, police and chp are doing an investigation because of an overnight incident involving a gun. as you heard all remembering savage said -- alex savage says they are looking for shell casings and traffic is not doing well because of it. leaving san francisco, this is a lower deck. if you go to san francisco city streets we are also at the corner of first and this is 1st street coming up near harrison on the bay bridge on

ramp and there is really nothing going on and we have seen cars getting onto it on to the bay bridge, not expecting anything and then these cars are just driving into a world of hurt here. i wouldn't recommend it. i would recommend making a right on harrison and using the san mateo bridge instead, so not very good. let's look at the alternate, burlingame 92 eastbound, that is not a bad drive at all and i would recommend it. at 6:10 let's go to steve. >> they were listening to you, sal. tropical moisture, this time of year comes up and got really close-up to sierra nevada. and by the way, chicago is looking for a high of 105 in

chicago, that is really high and would tie a record. and there is a howling sea breeze, that fog bank was shallow yesterday on the bay deck and it is lifted today even out to the san mateo valley. mother nature has put in octane. i have been doing this for a few months. so cooler today into tomorrow. so we will start to warm up. that is not the case today. there is a lot of low clouds and fog and we will be windy at times and there is a strong gust from the golden gate bridge out to the delta.

crews arrived even before the first firefighters and those flames reached about 20 feet in the air. once firefighters got there they quickly put out those flames and we have not been told as to whether it was an accident or if it has been deliberately set. and a parade in wisconsin quickly turned into who'll say who are roar -- holiday horror, we have a warning the video may be disturbing. >> we are watching home video watch the man with the flag as the car just hits him. the 87-year-old driver suffered a heat stroke and lost consciousness behind the wheel. police say the situation could have been even worse because the car nearly ploughed into the crowd. president barack obama plans a 2 day bus tour in pennsylvania this morning.

spraying antipolice graffiti. the arrests were made during an occupied march downtown. well the skies were clear for the city's annual 4th of july fireworks show. this was the scene at aquatic park, hundreds of thousands of people from the bay area turned out for the spectacular show, it lasted a little more than 20 minutes. the shoreline welcomed back it was the first time they were in the city of antioch. now the city couldn't pick up the tab so the residents and community stepped in raising $80,000. they are already raising money for next year. right now we are going to go over to sal, no we are going

to sal in traffic, day after 4th of july, any lanes opening on the lower deck yet? >> you know i just got bad news, the lower deck may not be completely open until 10:30 this morning and that's horrible news and we are looking at the lower deck right now. chp just confirmed that and the lower deck made those lanes and it is closed for that investigation until 10:30 and that's just terrible news. we want to look at the lower deck right now and these pictures showed the investigation that is being handled by a police chase. it was a shooting that occurred and police are out there looking for evidence. this was a chp incident and they are handling it here resumebly because -- resumebly because two lanes are getting through. those three lanes may be

. a florida lifeguard has been fired for coming to the rescue of a drowning man. he left the zone on hallandale beach to help a man who was struggling in the water but he went to an area which he was not paid to patrol and he was fired on the spot. >> i am not going to worry about jurisdiction or any other nonsense like that if somebody needs help i am going to help him. >> a second lifeguard was fired

when he said he would do the same thing and four others gave notice and a third person quit. they are asked to call 911 when somebody is drowning outside of patrolled zones. and they are the hardest hit areas, they include the states in new jersey and the storms knocked out power to more than 4 million homes in ten states in north carolina to new jersey and they are dealing with the sweltering heat and thieves are breaking into homes without working alarm systems and the death toll is now at 26. and they are now faces charges in four killings, anthony is already waiting a retrial in the city of lancaster in 2008.

you can see a number of lanes are shut down and there is only one lane, possibly 2 on the left side where traffic is getting by this morning. this was all the culmination of a chp pursuit and a shooting and a crime scene here on the bay bridge. the driver being pursued this morning was fired at officers, nobody was hit according to chp, he fired shots and tossed his gun into the bay afterwards. officers saw that car speeding, they chased it, it crashed and shots were fired. the driver was eventually taken. we have calls to figure out their role in all of this but if you come here live you can see a traffic mess, traffic is crawling and they are not expected to get any better and

they will not reopen until 10:30 this morning according to chp. channel 2 news, now over to sal with traffic. >> one thing is looking at alternate routes. we heard an he mate of 10:30 so san mateo is the best alternate to get to the east bay. there are no problems on wait to the san mateo and i would do that instead, there are lengthy delays and it would take you less time to drive all the way to san mateo and oakland then you would be waiting in traffic. i realize it is out of the way but at this point it is the best option. let's go back to the desk. and in overnight news, illegal fireworks made for a long night for fire crews

across the area. bottle rockets set off a fire and only burned three quarters of an acre and it briefly trapped a young father and his three young children on a hillside. it caused a fire near open. hive in oakly add another name to danger. >> they are hovering over the smoke and i just spoke with a man who has to stay home from work because he has asthma. >> reporter: the blaze started 10:30 last night in a field behind a dozen homes. a neighbor said he saw the firework land in the brush and torched almost 3 acres.

. good morning, lots of low clouds, a big fog bank means strong breezes and mainly 60s and 70s. here is a quick look at some of the top stories we are following, the deck will not fully open and several lanes remained shut down at this hour and it was around 1:30 when chp was chasing after a suspect and a source tells us an individual shot at officers and tossed the gun into the bay. the suspect was arrested after crashing the car he or she was driving. fires works started to burn nearly three acres in oakly. homes were threatened but did not burn. they say recent budget cuts

have left them short staffed and unable to quickly respond to large fires like these. and a man is in the hospital after falling from the roof of an elementary school in petaluma. we are following breaking news there has been a shooting in oakland and tara moriarty has just arrived on the scene, tara, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, not too much at this point but we know somebody was shot inside of this home around 5:45 this morning and we know that the victim is a man in his 20s, a black male. he did sea his attackers and police right now are going on leads you can see the home they are entering and crime investigations are here right now and they are looking for shell casings and other evidence inside to figure out who did this. now the family was home at the time this happened, this man's

would go to 280 and get down to the peninsular that way. one last thing, this is a good route getting over to the hayward side and it looks good. let's go to steve. we have a much bigger fog bank, cooling down and downright wind, in fact gusts over 30 for some. it is a system right up here to the north and the tropical cloud just missed and peeled off got pushed off towards the east. maybe next week some of that might come back that time of year filters into the sierra nevada and that system is lifted and it was struggling very low, very sal low and today it is up around 500 feet. areas of low clouds and fog, temperatures dropping 60s and 70s with areas fog prone and also inland temperatures, they are coming down 10 degrees

7/5/12 there you have it. the dow is already down 71 points. this comes after the market had a holiday yesterday for the 4th of july. the governor jerry brown wants more than $700 million to be used to the rail line. would be included as part of the high speed rail project tomorrow. that funding would give them cheaper and more frequent service over the next 10 years and lay the groundwork through the bay area. >> relatives and friends of a dodger's fan who's body was found say they are planning his funeral service. he went missing after a giants/dodger's game last week. he was from southern california. the family plans to take his body back to southern california after an autopsy is performed. >> rain and cooler temperatures could provide much needed relief
