complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. good morning and welcome to mornings on 2 i'm mike mibach. i'm terry campbell. developing news in alameda. we have new information ability the sixteen agers seriously hurt after their car crashed into a tree. ktvu's claudine wong is live at the scene. you've just learned the drive caught him? >> just 15 years old. the other passengers in the car 15 years old and one 13-year- old. six people in this vehicle behind me when it crashed into a tree here on island drive. if you take a look at the top of the vehicle, you can see the roof is pulled back. that happened when they were trying to get the driver out, and it was not easy to get him out. we want to show you video of the extrication process. this is shortly after the accident happened at 1:30 this

morning. there were six people in the car, five 15-year-olds. one 13-year-old. the driver the most seriously hurt. that driver was taken to high land hospital with life- threatening injuries. the other five people in the car threatened nonlife- threatening injuries. when this happened it's still unclear if anyone saw it happen but people heard it happen, and police telling us they got several 9-1-1 calls telling them about the collision. they are out here right now. they have been out here for a couple of hours. they expect to be out here for a couple more as they try to figure out what happened. obviously if speed led to this, if alcohol played a role. what we do know is police believe that dakar you're looking at belongs to the parents of one of the passengers. parents who did not know this car had been taken. at this point still a lot of questions, but the 15-year-old driver that was behind the

wheel fighting for their life in the hospital. the other five passengers doing okay, but all very young. no one old enough to drive. six people, not enough seat belts to go around, still a lot of questions. they expect this area to be shut down until nine or ten this morning. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. thank you. 7:02 this morning the bay area's close nit horse racing community is mourning the death of a successful jockey. jorge herrara was thrown from his horse at the alameda county fair. he later died from head injuries. this is video from a horse racing web site. you can see herrara riding a gray horse no. 8. he started off strong but then fell back. he got too close to another horse and was thrown from the track. we'll have more in a live report at 7:30. in overnight news the fbi is now leading investigation into two dangerous laser

incidents involving jets heading into sfo. the trouble began shortly after 10:30 last night. someone in the pa low alto area pointed a laser into the cockpit of a united states airlines jet. the same thing happened on a virgin airlines flight shortly after. we are following a tragedy in santa clara county. the 3-year-old son of a san jose police officer was shot and killed in gilroy. it happened yesterday on kent wood court. al exsavage tells. >> reporter: this is the gilroy dispatch newspaper that was just dropped here on the driveway at the officer's home a short timing a here in begin gilroy after a 3-year-old boy was shot to death in a tragic accident. it happened 5:00 last night. a family friend did come out this morning and told me the parents are simply devastated.

gilroy police investigating whether this 3-year-old boy shot himself or he was shot by someone else. one report says police are looking at the possibility a friend fired that handgun. they found the boy with at least one gunshot wound. the gilroy dispatch newspaper is identifying the boy's father as san jose police officer brandon orlando. the child death protocol, a joint investigative team has been activated. they will insure a thorough investigation, and much of that investigation will focus on how firearms were being stored inside this home. we have calls into gilroy police this morning hoping to get more details. for now we're live in gilroy. a san jose church is asking for donations after being burglarized not once but three times. two of the break-ins at our lady of guadalupe happened just this week. the first one was on june 29th

june 29th. they took instruments and musical equipment. they say the value is $25,000. people living in oakland hills continue to buy surveillance cameras in an effort to combat crime. we showed you this video of a burglary captured by a homeowner's surveillance camera. city officials have invited security retailers to community meetings. one salesman estimates he's sold hundreds of cameras in the recent months. one man who lives near redwood regional mark has cameras that snap pictures of every license plate that enters his street. the june jobs report was released at 5:30 this morning. in t showed u.s. employers added only 80,000 jobs in june. the unemployment rate remained at 8.2%. let's take a look at how the stock market is reacting, the numbers down significantly. the dow currently down 132, the nasdaq is also down over 1%

down 33. s&p down 13 about 1%. the republican presidential candidate mitt romney quickly is scheduled an appearance this morning to respond to the june jobs report. he's speaking from wolfboro new hampshire where he's been staying at his family's lakefront vacation home this week. let's listen in. >> i'll take a couple of questions. >> he's taking a couple of questions from some of the reporters. let's see if we can hear one of the responses. >> i don't say much to critics. i put up 59 steps for how i'd get the economy going, and i don't think i've seen any from the president that show what he's planning on doing. i've laid out my 59 steps. take a look at them. you'll find them very specific, going through them one by one, taking advantage of our energy resources, opening up federal federal lands for drilling. doubling the number of permits and licensing to take advantage of oil, natural gas, coal.

yesterday. it will be warmer inland over the weekend but one forecast model is kind of going crazy. the other one is like we'll ease into this. 55 fairfield, concord. 51 redwood city. san jose cloudy and 57 degrees. there you go, west southwest travis 17 when it's a 20 or higher as it was yesterday it starts to get under 20 that's a sure sign we'll start to warm up. there's still a good breezy around and temperatures in the higher elevationings haven't warmed up yet. high pressure in the middle of the country which has brought unbelievable heat showing signs of coming back to the west. that will allow inland temps to warm up a little. today's the transition day, as we go into the weekend temperatures inland will tart to warm up, maybe some 90s as we head towards sunday. could be some of those tropical clouds coming up from arizona on sunday but i think you're

all right until early next week. temperatures 70s to low 80s: a little warmer today. but fairfield which was 79 yesterday we'll go 84 today. santa rosa at 83 degrees, nevada 79, kentfield 76. berkeley low 70s, mid-80s about antioch and up to brentwood and oakley. san jose after yesterday's 75, men low park and mountain view -- upper 60s, low 70s and then 60s on the coast. cassie jean said it's fog by here today so not very warm. the fog will be hanging out by the coast but inland temps will warm up on the weekend and certainly early next week. new video of a wildfire in redding that's prompted evacuations.

it's burned 1200 acres since it started yesterday afternoon. five homes were damaged and two outbuildings were destroyed. firefighters say they made progress overnight and the fire is now 30% contained. even so some 80 homes are still in the way of those flames. the cause of that fire is under investigation. terrorists arrested, what was found in the car of seven suspects just weeks before the olympics begin. >> and three brush fires in just the past 24 hours. where local residents are concerned not just because of the fires but also because of recent budget cuts.

out the fog. two people died during violent storms in tennessee's great smoky mountains national park. hundreds of trees came crashing down and at least a dozen other people were injured in the storm. many people were visiting the park for the 4th of july holiday. emergency crews are still trying to assess all the injuries and damage but they have having a tough time accessing roads because of the downed trees. excessive heat warnings are in effect in chicago, milwaukee and st. louis. they're among several cities that have seen record high temperatures. the heat is now moving eastward, relief may not come until the end of next week when a cold front is expected to move across the great lakes. it is 7:16 british police say they have arrested seven men on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism after finding weapons hidden in their car. back on june 30th police say they impound add car for not having insurance. it was later they found weapons

hidden in the car. that prompted police to arrest the driver and passenger and other suspects. there's no indication they were planning any terrorist attacks at the olympics. new this morning we're getting word that a top general in syria has defected and is possibly now on his way to paris. that's where the u.s. and other countries are meeting today to call for global sanctions against the regime of syrian president baa similar asad. diplomats around the world including hillary clinton are seeking to step up the pressure on syria. the u.s. is urging countries around the world to pressure russia and china into forcing president asad to leave power. and wick key key leaks says it's in the process of publishing material from syria

e-mails. he says he decided to release the e-mails because they show that certain european companies were still doing business with the syrian government as recently as this year. the new jobs report for june just released this morning shows the u.s. economy still struggling with employers adding only 80,000 new jobs last month and as ktvu scott macfarlane reports, mitt romney wasted little time in weighing in on those disappointing numbers. >> the nation's unemployment rate stuck at 8.2% for another month. there were some gains, about 14,000 jobs in the health care field and about 10,000 in automobile and manufacturing but four months before election day those numbers are dripping in politics. president obama beginning the second day of his campaign bus trip through ohio. he'll speak in youngstown in a

few minutes. >> the president's policies have clearly not been successful in reigniting this economy, in putting people back to work and opening up manufacturing plants across the country. >> in the hour since those jobs numbers were released we're getting dozens and dozens of statements including from nancy pa low see telling republicans in the house they can't waste anymore time. live in washington scott macfarlane ktvu channel 2 news. 7:19, firefighters in eastern contra costa county were put to the test days after three of the districts six firehouses closed. this fire in brentwood was one of three in the 24 hour period. flames came close to home yesterday afternoon. some yards were damaged but no one was hurt. no official word on the cause of the fire but one neighbor says it may have been sparked by someone cutting wood. and a fire in oakley may

have been started by fireworks, some antique canoes burned. no one was hurt in this fire either. 3 acres were burned in another grass fire in oakley late wednesday night. response times took about 10 minutes and the fire chief says that is the new reality, voters rejected measure f which would have saved those three firehouses from closure. it's foggy and a bit of a chilly summer morning. meteorologist steve paulson willllell us whether things are going to heat up. also a reward in a deadly hit and run crash. it comes as we learn disturbing new information. >> good morning highway 4 off to a decent start. we don't have a lot going on here as you drive on highway 4 toward concord. we'll tell you more about the morning commute.

a $10,000 reward in the hit and killed a bicyclist. it's a story we first reported during the 10:00 news. investigators say the driver may have intentionally hit the bicyclist near international boulevard and 81st avenue. police have a vague description of the car. it's a dark colored older model american sedan with possible windshield damage. it is not only friday but it's the friday after the 4th 4th of july. want to check in with sal and see if that's making a difference on the roadways. >> we've had some pretty good conditions out there as we go to the toll plaza it's not like it would normally be, even on a friday it's not this light so enjoy it if you do have to go to the city. you're going to have plenty of room to do that. also 880 a little slow here northbound as you come up toward the high street exit. some of it could be because of on earlier problem. traffic is getting a little bit slow coming up to high street.

northbound 880 at parks -- northbound 880 just after 23rd there's an accident in the left lane. that was there at 7:15. they were moving it to the side. apparently they haven't done that just yet. and moving along to mountain view, northbound 101, some slow traffic after an earlier motorcycle stalled out. southbound 101 does look good. let's go back to steve. >> thank you, sir. a few breaks in the fog but there's a lot of fog out there although a a little north wind. we'll eventually take care of it, but we start off with a mostly gray morning, temperatures 40ss and 50s, a little chill up towards sonoma county airport. plenty of fog and low clouds decided to come roaring back this morning, but they're showing signs of burning off sooner today. there's 46 santa rosa, mid-50s for many, overcast skies.

here's what i want to show you, that's a northerly breeze coming down so that will eventually wipe out the fog. it will probably be last to go on the san mateo coast. high pressure showing signs of coming back from the middle of the country so that will allow temperatures to start warming up but there's no north or northeast wind. it's just high pressure building back in. we will see warmer temps over the weekend, especially away from the coast. sunny and breezy today after those morning clouds. inland 60s and 70s, coast and bay. it does look warmer through the interior into the weekend and early next week. it is 7:25. developing news from the east bay, a serious crash with several young victims, the disturbing new information ability about the driver. >> we're live at the fairgrounds where officials will make an announcement with their plans to honor a jockey. and what firefighters say may have prevented a tragedy. ♪

a press conference on this crash in a few minutes. it does start -- you can see these are pictures of the car. these are live pictures of the car still there at the scene where firefighters had to use the jaws of life to strip off that roof and get people out of that car. again, the authorities will be having a press conference with more details of the crash. let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. we have also been following developing news out of mill gran, an early morning fire gutted the garage of a home on al tahoe ma street. the flames erupted about 3:00 this morning. a family of four was sleeping inside but they were woken up by smoke alarms and made it out safely. >> got out of the house and tried to fight it from outside. the neighbors came with their hoses and tried to keep it to a minimum but by then the whole garage was engulfed. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. the homeowners says he'll remodel but will like for a

temporary place for his family to live. tributes are pouring in for a jockey killed at a horse race at the alameda county fair. racing fans and jockeys mourn the death of jorge herrara. >> reporter: you know a horses hoof can strike the ground with as much as 3,000 pounds of force. if a jockey falls off and on to the track it can be deadly, and that is exactly what happened yesterday here at the alameda county fairgrounds, the last race of the day just before 5:00. the crowd gasping when jorge herrara fell off his horse, the gray one, no. 8. a witness tells us that he started strong but fell back and then got too close to another horse. >> it seemed like he might have overcorrected, and he came across the nine horses heels. clicked heels with the 9 horse and stumbled badly and the jockey flew over the horses head to the racetrack.

>> officials say it appears he was trampled. he was rushed to a hospital but died several hours later with injuries resulting from massive head trauma. his horse crossed the finish line alone. he finished 1st, 55 times in his year. he raced in california, oregon, and washington starting in more than 1,000 races. no word yes, sir on how the community here plans to honor him this weekend. we should be finding out at a press conference coming up and while tracks have made safety improvements this is still a very dangerous sport. we'll talk about how risky it is coming up in our next hour. we have new video this morning of a police pursuit in san leandro last night. the suspect's car rammed into the side of a home on farrago avenue. the incident started when officers checked the license plate of the vehicle and it came back that the plate was lost or stolen. police then tried to pull the

car over. that pursuit ended when the suspect hit a dip on the road and lost control. >> went into the house right around the tree and the police were there immediately, and they had guns drawn and then told her to put her hands up. >> police have not released the suspect's name but they have identified her as a 33-year-old hayward resident. she suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. she faces charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and evading police. no one was inside the house at the time of the crash. they dropped off their cars and went on an evening stroll in antioch but ended up waiting around for hours after the city locked up the park. coming up in just about 14 minutes, one stranded driver furious she was not warned. 7:32 scott peter son has filed the automatic appeal of his death sentence to the california supreme court. peterson was convicted in 2004 of killing his wife lacy and their unborn son.

he has always maintained his innocence. peterson's attorney claimed publicity and others things deprived him of a fair trial. wesley sherman tine. the bill is designed to have him help search for the remains of dozens of victims from a killing spree in the 19 80s and 90s. they were known as the speed freak killers. giving investigators maps of lead them to victims remains. and later this morning a marine county judge will rule on an evidence request made by joseph naso. he wants permission to examine dna evidence collected from panty hose that belonged to one of his alleged victims. he is charged with killing four

northern california women between 1977 and 1994. july selection is expected to begin november 7. ross mcramie's wife now does plan to fly back to snap from venn residence way will to testify in person at her husband's misconduct hearing. earlier she had asked the city to pay for her round trip ticket, but the mayor rejected that request. now a spanish language radio station has raised the $1500 needed to pay for lopez's plane ticket. in the meantime a second person has come forward to suggest snap's mayor may have committed perjury. these allegationed stepped from testimony before the ethics commission last week. >> i don't recall recall offering him any job. >> however former board of supervisors president aaron possess kin is telling a

different story. he says he was asked to tell him he could have a new job if he resigned as sheriff. and last week building inspection commissioner testified he per injured himself in second testimony. doubts are being raised about pg&e's account of testing on the san bernardino pipeline that exploded in 2010. a retired employee remembers high pressured water tests being done on the pipeline more than 50 years ago. the utility suggested the procedure may have weakened the pipeline and could have contributed to the deadly blast. they also admit that the pipeline had a defective well. experts say the detective line would not be able to withstand the hydro tests the worker described. they sit at the bottom rung of the silicon valley ladder. a number of so-called hacker hostiles are popping up.

misdemeanor assault charge. they have a week to decide if they will retry him on that court. and there's also charges -- a. a former private security guard has been found guilty of the attempted murder and second degree robbery of a man near lake merit in 2010. prosecutors say daniel alum shot the victim eight times during a struggle. it started when he grabbed the victim's cell phone while he was walking and texting. alun will be sentenced next month. he faces the possibility of life in prison. we're learning more about the man being blamed for yesterday morning's commute nightmare. 29 antonio robber son of oakland is on parole for a human trafficking condition that involved a minor. he now faces felony drunk driving and gun charges after a crash and shoot out on the bay bridge. no one was hurt but it created

a backup for commuters heading from san fransisco to the east bay. it is 7:37 and let's check in with sal to get an update on a slow down in oakland. >> that's right. northbound 880 north of high street, that crash, they're moving it or they're trying to move it and they are successful. the traffic is recovering. it was blocking the left lane. they got there, chp did, moved it to the shoulder and things are getting better. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza not a lot of slow traffic. westbound traffic the looks good getting into the city. and of course if you are driving on 101 northbound that has improved a little bit. we had a guy with a stalled motorcycle earlier, that's been removed but a little slow from sunnyvale to mountain view. let's go to steve. >> thank you, and a very happy friday morning. lots of low clouds out there, some breaks in the clouds but most locations stay cloudy to

mostly cloudy. yesterday it was just howling. today will be still breezy but not as strong of a breezy, and there's a northerly breeze coming down the coast, which will start to take care of this fog but right now it's front and center. morning fog sunny today, breezy and a little bit warmer, more so on the weekend. clearing, that fog seems to want to burn off last on the san mateo coast. san jose 57, santa rosa 46 up near kenwood, 45 degrees. that's cool for this time of year, a lot of 50s, low to mid as temperatures kind of stuck through the fog. yesterday it was up to 28 so it's coming down. that's a sure sign it will be warmer. but there's that north breeze coming right off the coast. it's there this morning for most. high pressure in the middle of the country which as you know by now has been getting unbelievable heat is showing signs of packing its bags kind

of heading back towards the west. the question is how far back will it go, probably into utah. one forecast model shows warm temps by tuesday or wednesday. the trend is your friend and the trend is we warm up but it doesn't last very long but we'll take that into the weekend. temperatures 80s near 90 degrees. temperatures warming up, a little cool this morning. tahoe upper 70s to near 80. could be a few tropical clouds wrapping in as that high gets closer back towards utah and nevada. sunny and breezy after the morning clouds and fog. 70s for some, upper 70s. napa 79, san alina 89, clear lake will be in the 90th. pet low ma 78-degrees.

following developing news about a car crash with six seen i thinkers inside i think -- teenagers in the car. let's listen in. >> emergency services personnel from both the fire department and police department were dispatched to the location. offers arrived and located a single vehicle which had collided into the tree. there were a total of six occupants in the vehicle, five were 15 years old, and one was 13 years old. after being extricated from the car, the 15-year-old driver was transported to highland hospital with life-threatening injuries. the other five occupants sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. one was transported to highland hospital, one was transported to oakland kaiser and the remaining three were transferred to eden hospital. they will be looking into whether or not alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision. preliminary information given to officers at the scene indicates that the vehicle involved in the collision

belongs to one of the passenger's parents and was used without permission. as more information becomes available we will update the press release and speak to you guys more about it. >> do we know if they lived in alameda? >> i don't have all the addresses of the occupants of the car, but i know some of them were from alameda. >> have the kids been able to talk to police officers yet? >> some of the occupants in the car were able to give statements at the scene, and we have investigators that are traveling to the hospitals that i mentioned right now to talk with them more. >> can you tell us what they've been able to tell you? >> i don't have any of that information yet. >> did the 15-year-old have a driving permit? >> not that i'm aware of. so the tragic part of this is nobody in the vehicle was old enough to have a license to be able to drive. and our hearts and prayers go out to the families. >> do you know where they were going to or coming from? i don't have any of that information and i'm sure that will come out with the investigation continues. >> the preliminary statements that i got from the officers

the realignment program. originally they said only two more criminals were likely to shift to the local jail. now they say that number is close to 250 more inmates each year. realignment took effect in october to ease overcrowding. there is a group of people just furious at the city of antioch. they went to the city's community park for an evening stroll. but their cars were locked inside the gates when the park closed last night. fliers left on the cars instructed them to call police who would let them out. however, officers told them they had other priorities. stranded visitors waited for hours before an officer arrived. >> we're not angry. we're furious. i can understand maybe half an hour. i can understand an hour, but it's been over two hours, and nobody seems to care. >> still waiting for a comment from police. there is a park sign that reads the park closes at dusk, but it

cleanup continues from the storms that rolled across the atlantic seaboard. tree trimmers have been working nonstop to try to clear the mess. the heat index topped 110. forecasters predict a break for monday when the mercury will drop into the 80s. look at this video. it was taken by a hotel security camera. it shows dramatic pictures of a severe storm ripping through a girl's 18th birthday party. it hurled the party's tent and knocked the guests over. no one was seriously hurt, and everyone ran into the hotel basement for safety. river more police will be getting a raise but for the first time they will also be paying into a pension fund. officers will immediately stare paying 2 and a half percent

complete bay area news coverage continues. this is ktvu mornings on 2. welcome back to morning on 2. i'm tori campbell i'm mike mibach. it is friday july 6th. developing news in alameda, we are learning new information about six teenagers hurt after their car crashed into a tree overnight. the driver just 15 years old suffered life-threatening injuries in that collision on island drive. ktvu claudine wong is live at the scene where alameda police are revealing what was found inside the car's trunk. >> reporter: let me give you a look at the scene right now. there's the car sitting where it stopped after this crash about 1:30 this morning. as you can see accident investigators still out here and they will be out here for another couple of hours. let me tell you what we've learned about the people inside that car. first they did find some alcohol in the trunk of that car. second we now know that two of the occupants were sisters. the driver was a 15-year-old boy who suffered life- threatening injuries, and it

took a lot to get him out of the car. i want to show you video when firefighters were trying to extricate that 15-year-old driver from the car. it did take a bit to get him out. he suffered the most serious injuries. the other vehicle's passengers included three other 15-year- olds and a 13-year-old. they think that his car was taken from one of the passenger's parents and we talked to the lieutenant at the alameda police department just a short time ago about what they found in the trunk. >> i believe that there was alcohol found in the car. >> in the car, in the trunk? >> in the trunk. >> so not open containers. i don't know enough to speculate if alcohol was actually involved. but that's why we want to make sure we call out the different investigators so they can track that down. >> you're taking a look at the video of highland hospital. police tell us they were able to talk to some of the

occupants of the car. they believe at this point that they were all wearing seat belts in some way or another. obviously six people in that car, only five seat belts. we don't know if they were sharing a seat belt or how that was working. no one was thrown from the car, and actually we know that at least maybe one victim, maybe more, has already been released so the five other passengers minor injuries, but the -- or nonlife-threatening injuries we should say. the driver life-threatening injuries. we take a look back at at scene just within the last minute a tow truck did arrive on scene. you can see it right parked down the street. again, they do expect to be out here for a couple more hours. you see the investigators out here. they say they do see some skid marks along this road southbound on island drive, but it will be out here for a while. they have contacted the alcohol and beverage commission because there was alcohol found in the trunk. because of the ages of the kids, because of the seriousness of this crash, they say they are going to take their time with this investigation. live near alameda claudine wong

homes. it has burned 1200 acres since it started yesterday afternoon. five homes were damaged and two outbuildings were destroyed. firefighters say they made progress overnight and the fire is now 30% contained. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. a 29-year-old lake county man was arrested on suspicion of abandoning six sick puppies near a dumpster. the puppies were found by a garbage company employee last friday. investigators say they were covered in feces, vomit and urine. one of the puppies died. the others were taken to lake county animal care and control. investigators say he admitted to dumping the puppyies because they were sick. we are following a tragedy in santa clara county. the 3-year-old son of a police officer was shot and killed in gilroy. it happened yesterday on

kentwood court. alex savage tells us about the questions surrounding this accident. the son of a san jose police officer was shot and critically wounded inside his house. it happened around 5:00 last night. parking lights came here and found the boy with at least one gunshot wound and he died on the way to the hospital. gilroy police are investigating whether he shot himself or if he may have been shot by someone else. one report says police are looking at the possibility that one of the boy's friends accidentally fired that handgun. the gilroy dispatch newspaper this morning identifying the boy's father as san jose police officer brandon orlando. police say family members were home at the time of the shooting, although it's unclear who that gun may belong to, if it may be the officer's service weapon. that's yet to be determined here in this investigation. the santa clara county child death protocol has been activated here. it's a joint investigative team to insure a thorough investigation into what happened here, and we're told

this investigation among other things will focus on where and how guns were being stored inside this home. i did have a chance to speak briefly with a family friend who came out of the house early this morning, she didn't want to go into too much details about what took place, only telling me that the parents of this young boy are simply devastated. live this morning in gilroy alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. the fbi is now leading the investigation into two dangerous laser incidents involving jets heading into san fransisco international. the trouble began shortly after 10:30 last night. investigators say someone in the pa low alto area pointed a laser into the cockpit of a united airlines jet. the same thing happened on a virgin airlines flight a short time later. both landed safely. at sfo this morning more flight delays. the faa is reporting some arriving flights are delayed at least an hour and a half. this means outgoing flights

people living in the oakland hills continue to buy surveillance cameras in an effort to combat crime. a few weeks ago we showed you this video of a burglary captured by a homeowners surveillance camera. officials have invited security retailers to meetings and one salesman estimates he has sold hundreds of cameras to people in the oakland hills in recent months. one man has cameras that snap pictures of every license plate that enters his street. san jose believes there are more mentally disabled adults that may have been abused at an unlicensed facility. the house is guarded with mounted cameras and bashed wires. police investigating complaints covered a dozen mentally disabled adults and two dozen dogs living in fill. investigators say the victims were malnourished, beaten, bathed once a month and forbidden to use toilet paper.

jobs report. live in washington, scott macfarlane ktvu channel 2 news. well, a new ktvu field poll shows president obama has a clear advantage right here in california over his republican challenger mitt romney. the poll shows 55% of voters support the president compared to 37% for romney. more independent voters also favor president obama over his republican challenger. new fund-raising figures show mitt romney and the republican national committee combined to raise more than $100 million in the month of june. the obama campaign has not yet released its june fund-raising totals, but the president has expressed concern about being outraised by his opponent. official election results in mexico confirm the victory of enrique pena knee yay to. with nearly 100% of the ballot boxes counted and about half of them double checked he has more than 38% of the vote

horse racing is one of the biggest draws at the alameda county fair, but this morning fans are trying to deal with the loss of a popular jockey. jockeys actually the guilt receive 2500 injury notifications each year and jockeys are sidelined by injuries, yesterday's tragedy highlighting that. let's take a a looked ad video from yesterday's race. it was the last race of the day. witnesses say the no. 8 jockey, jorge herrara fell off his gray horse when he got too close to another horse and clipped it. he fell over his horse's head and on to the track. >> i saw the start of the race, and all of a sudden i see the no. 8 horse, and there's no jockey, and i looked far across where i was, and i didn't even see

officers checked the license plate of the vehicle and it came back the plate was lost or stolen. police then tried to pull the car over. the pursuit ended when the suspect hit a dip on the road and lost control. the car went into the side of a house on fargo avenue and fleming street. went into the house right around the tree and the police were right there immediately and they had guns drawn, and then told her to put her hand up. >> police believe the car was originally stolen in richmond. they have not released the suspect's name but she's identified as a 33-year-old hayward resident. she faces charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and evading police. no one was inside the house at the time of the crash. scott peterson has filed an automatic appeal of his death sentence to the california supreme court. peterson was convicted in 2004 of killing his wife lacy and unborn son. he has always maintained his innocence. peter son's attorney claims

lot of low clouds and fog but they're already burning back to the coast, and they'll get wiped out but again a pretty big fog bank. parts of the north bay had some mid-40s, high pressure over here middle of the country. it's deciding to kind of come back to the west, how far it comes back will be a key in our weekend forecast. we will warm up inland. by the coast, though, water temps are cold again. they dropped, they went up and then they came back down. 50s for temps or very low 60s, mountain view with san jose. that on shore breeze continues. there's a north wind coming down right off mend see that sonoma and marin coast but still some of the fog continues to work its way north ward. eventually that north wind will take care of it and high pressure will burn it off. you can see a lot of the tropical clouds coming along the western edge of the high. some of that could drift back

food, even furniture. when the party was over they left it all behind. officials with the golden gate national recreation area say it took 55 employees to clean up the mess. and it was a similar situation at san fransisco's dolores park the the chronicle says piles of trash were left behind. gardners hauled away 60 bags of garbage from that park. a massachusetts family says they are relieved they were away from home when a neighbor's homemade cannon malfunctioned. the mishap sent pieces of shrapnel flying into one side of their home. investigators say this happened after a neighbor's cannon exploded in his backyard. no charges have been filed yet. an extreme sports writer fell to his death in owe semitee national park this past week weekend. 45 mike lee para was climbing alone when he fell about 200 feet. his family reported him missing

safely. the toddler's son of a san jose police officer was shot and killed in gilroy in what investigators believe was a tragic accident. it happened at family's home. ktvu alex savidge joining us live from gilroy with the latest information. >> reporter: investigators are trying to determine whether that #-year-old boy shot himself or if he was accidentally shot by someone else, probably a friend who was over at the house playing last night. it happened around 5:00 last night here at the home of that san jose police officer who is the boy's father. crime scene cleanup crews were here into the early morning hours paramedicked rushed here and found one gunshot wound. the gilroy dispatch newspaper this morning is identifying the boy's father as san jose police officer brandon orlando. police tell us family members were home at the time of the shooting. it's unclear at this time who that gun belongs to, if it may have been the officer's service

weapon, that's yet to be determine. the child death protocol has been activated. it's a team that will investigate what happened, it will focus in part on how guns were being stored inside this home. that's what we understand from gilroy police. we have seen a couple of people as we come back live come and go from the house this morning. i did have a chance to speak with one family friend on camera a short time ago. she didn't offer me any details about the shooting but told me the parents are obviously grieving this morning. it is 8:46, a central california cyclist is recovering from serious injuries after he was mauled by a pack of dogs. the 49-year-old was riding his bike in more sed county when he was attacked. six dogs were captured nearby and are being held by animal control. larry burns family owns four of the dogs being care ran teened and he says he was on vacation when the attack happened but is

developing news in alameda, six teenagers are in the hospital after their car crashed into a tree overnight, the driver just 15 years old. claudine wong joining us live from the scene with the new information revealed within the last hour. >> reporter: i want to give you a look at the scene right now because we are seeing some activity as this tow truck finally pulling this vehicle out, trying to pull it off the tree that this car hit. it actually hit a couple of trees. we have learned some new information within the last hour about the kids that were inside that car. you had six teenagers, five 15- year-olds, one 13-year-old,

four girls two boys. two of the girls were sisters. the driver of that car, 15 years old suffered the most serious injuries and it did take a little bit to get him out of that car. i want to show you some video from right after this happened at 1:30 this morning on island drive here in alameda. the firefighters had to use extrication equipment to get the driver out. they got him out. he was taken to highland hospital suffering life- threatening injuries. the other kids inside the car were taken to other area hospitals. their injuries are considered nonlife-threatening, and some of them have been able to talk to investigators about what happened. now a couple of things we've learned, they're trying to figure out what led up to this crash. obviously the driver wasn't old enough to drive nor were any of the other kids in the car. the car was taken from the parents of the two sisters that were in the vehicle. the parents did not know the vehicle had been taken.

also we learned that the father of two of the girls the one who owned the car said the beer in the trunk of the car was his, and so maybe the kids didn't even know it was back there. again, back out live as they're trying to get this car out of here. it is kind of propped up on a couple different trees out there. even after they take this car away they say they will with out here for another couple of hours as they try to figure out what led up to this crash, everyone concerned about the conditions of all of the kids, but again five nonlife- threatening, the driver life- threatening injuries. live here in alameda claudine wong. thank you. today is likely a make or break day for california's high speed rail program. the state senate is scheduled to vote on funding for the first phase of the project. the plan is to have trains running at speeds of 220 miles an hour. right now even strong backers believe there may not be enough
