lawsuits are likely to come. reporting live. ktvu channel 2news. >> dozens of people rallied outside oakland police head quarters in memory of the 20- year-old man killed in the officer involved shooting. he was shot to death in january of last year by an oakland school district police officer. brown tried to stab the officer with a screw driver. the district's police force is under a federal grand jury investigation believed to be connected to brown's death. a family in gilroy tonight is mourning the tragic shooting death of a 3-year-old boy by a gun found in the family home. robert honda is in gilroy and said the boy's father is a san jose police officer. robert. >> here at the police department there is sadness and determination. officers here have sympathy but have launched an investigation

into circumstances of this tragic shooting death. today family and friends are showing up at kenwood where the shooting took place. they say the 3-year-old preston or land ott son of the police officer was somehow shot and killed by a hand gun. the father and homeowner is brandon orlando. >> my daughter visited them this morning, their -- brandon's parents and they said they want people -- with them they want support, they want people around them. >> when one of us hurts we all hurt right now, particularly evidenced by how many people showed up last flight to support them. >> reporter: the gun isn't a san jose police issued weapon. >> at this time it does appear to be accidental but there are -- thing that we will focus on during the course of the investigation. one of those things will be how firearms were scored inside of the residence. >> reporter: it means in a place where no minor children

can get to the gun. >> reporter: for now friends are just trying to comfort the family. >> it's just a real tragedy and everybody feels for them. feeling horrible. >> reporter: the da's office is monitoring the process, police say its investigation will continue into the weekend. live in gilroy are. ktvu channel 2news. >> the authorities say a 15- year-old is fighting for his life after a joyride ended in a horrible accident. police say the boy was behind the wheel when the car hit the tree on island drive just after 1:30 this morning. four others and a 1-year-old were taken to the hospital but they are expected to be okay. two of the girls in the car are sisters and police say the car belonged to their father. septemberors say he told them that beer found in the trunk of the car was his. it's not known if the teens had been drinking. >> an oil leak forced the

evacuation of 80 workers today. we were over the reare finery shortly after the leak happened around nine this morning. a fire spokesman said a broken pipe leak the oil inside the plant and some of it vaporized. one was treated for breathing problems. >> horse racing restarted today at the fire after a moment of silence to honor a jockey killed yesterday. he died in the final race. he was riding the number eight horse when it clipped the heel of another horse and he was thrown to the ground. the horse was not hurt. he was from mix mention do. other riders say he was quiet, hard working polite. the california horse racing board has launched an investigation into the accident. >> the june jobs report was released today and shows hiring remaining weak in the united states three years after the end of the recession.

the department said employers added only 80,000 jobs last month. the rate remained unchanged at 8.2%. analysts say the struggling job market is pushing down spending which drives about 70% of the economy. those disappointing jobs numbers also had an effect on wall street. the dow fell more than 124 points, nasdaq dropped almost 39. >> today some oakland airports workers made their voices heard about their efforts to unionize. food service workers marched in front of terminal 2 this morning. they work at eight restaurants and shops at the airport including subway and jamba juice. they don't get overtime or health benefits. >> we have no rights, no benefits and we are here today to take a stand for nonunion but we want the fair process to determine if we want a union. >> the contractor hms post

saying that if employees are unionized it'll encourage them to work together to resolve their disagreements. a car wash has agreed to pay workers $500,000 in back wages under a settlement announced today. the deal puts to rest a series of reports of wage violations against employees, of power car wash most of whom are latinos. among other accusations the company was accused of subjecting workers to unpaid waiting time while managers decided whether to let them clock in for their shifts. >> the governor and senate president say they will resist any attempt to change voter approved pension reform in san jose and san diego. they are trying to come one a plan for a public pension reform. the governor has offered a 12 point plan but negotiations have fallen short of creating a

bill to change the current system. they will try again after the summer recess. the da today released what he said is new evidence in last month's killing of an alleged pimp. he said video shows three of the four defendants together a short time together at the killing after. snead was a reported pimp that was trying to lure the 17-year- old daughter back into a life of prostitution. . >> lawyers for scott peterson have filed the automatic appeal of his murder conviction and death sentence with the california supreme court. he was convicted eight years ago of killing his wife and unborn son. he has always maintained his innocence. the torn claims incorrect rulings and other mistakes deprived him of a fair trial. such appeal dear sir take years

. a coach is pleaded not guilty to charges -- sexual assault charges role involving a student. the 25-year-old worked as a water polo coach in san mateo. police say a student told police that the coach had inappropriately sexual contact with her over a period of about eight months. he was arrested june 1st and

released on bail. >> new information tonight in the ethics investigation of the suspended sheriff. his attorney said he wants the former san francisco supervisorrer to testify before the ethics commission aboutments he made to ktvu and others. he said he was asked to tell -- him he could have a new job if he resigned as mayor or sheriff. the mayor told the commission last week that he didn't ask anyone to make the offer. today the da said he wants the commission to complete its investigation. >> at this point we have -- newspaper reports, we have hearsay information, that has not been subjected to cross. certain it's not testimony that is sworn. >> the mayor's office has strongly denied the perjury allegations. the fbi is leading the investigation into two laser incidents last night involving jet that were heading into san

to and we warmed up for today. stick around this weekend so with that -- in the lower 09's. the beaches, dense morning fog and temperatures in the mid60's. a very big range of temperatures spread this weekend. here is the forecast model, showing you dense fog first thing tomorrow morning hugging the coastline, impact visibility here with just a few mile away. lots of clear skies and warming back up. this links up with the 90s and quite a few showing up on the forecast maps for saturday afternoon. these numbers about the same as today or a little warmer. lower 09's toward antioch and brentwood. san jose 89, morgan hill around 90 degrees and san francisco, clouds in the morning, forecast high of 69. here is the look ahead. the five-day forecast with the weekend always in view. temperatures pretty much holding steady into sunday. warm it back up a little bit for monday and tuesday. that means the warmest location around 95 to 96 degrees.
