a memorial was held for a jockey killed during a race. how that jockey was remembered. >> reporter: eight horses sprang from the starting line to run around this one mile track. after the memorial race a crowd of friends and colleagues of the 33-year-old posed with his picture. >> he was a good guy. >> reporter: this is the sport he dedicated his life too. born in mexico he had raised more than a thousand times. he hadda 55 wins. during a race here thursday night he fell off his horse and later died from head injuries. >> he straightened the turn for just one step and that was enough to bump his horse on the shoulder and sent him out and down he went. >> the horses are moving at 40 miles an hour and it's a dangerous situation. >> we who are left behind mourn. >> reporter: the race communitied hands and hung community joined hands.

>> i will remember him as a good human being. >> reporter: this afternoon it was back to the races. the jockeys say there is no time to reflect on the perils of the job they love. >> we are said, we are mourning and we think about it, talk about it. we are on the track it's do your job, race right and you know enjoy what we do. >> reporter: that was allie reporting. >> a firefighter was in the hospital today fighting a two alarm fire in downtown oakland this morning. it was reported just before 9:20 inside a three story brick building on webster street. officials say the firefighter who was injured had minor burns. neighbors we talked to said this isn't the first time they have smelled smoke coming from that building. >> it's kind of alarming because you see the fire burning because i don't want it to hit our building. it's disturbing because it'll be a safety issue. >> reporter: a fire battalion

chief said firefighters did not see any evidence of squatters inside the building. the cause sunday investigation. >> i highway patrol said a broken down pickup truck is likely to blame for a deadly chain reaction crash overnight. the five vehicle accident happened on southbound highway 101. near east poplar just before one. one person died and another is in the hospital with life threatening injuries. the accident prompted the highway patrol to close all but one lane of southbound 101. the freeway was reopened at about four. the cause of the crash is still under investigation but neither alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor. >> police are investigating a shooting last night at a liquor store. a man leaving the store near 10th street was shot in the foot. he said he was heading to his car when he was shot and managed to drive himself to the hospital. police say no arrests have been made. >> the general hospital is

asking for the public's help to identity a critically ill patient. the young man was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon after falling from an overpass on interstate 280. the hospital said he appears to be latino in his late teens or early 20s, 5'4'' and 145 pounds. he has severe head trauma and other injuries. six nato soldiers were killed in afghanistan and tonight the french press is reporting they were all american. details are sketchy but the security assistance force said they died in eastern afghanistan. another soldier died in a similar attack earlier in the day including today's deaths, 234nato service members have died in afghanistan so far in year. >> the fbi is investigating the disappearance of millions of dollars from elderly trust accounts in the south bay.

the mercury news reports more than $17 million disappeared from 35 trust accounts. they were being manages by a services of campbell. the owner blames her former boyfriend and business partner. she claims he secretly wired the money out of the accounts. there is no word of arrests. in just hours tens of thousands of computer users won't be able to get on the internet. that's because at nine the fbi is set to take down temporary servers meant to stop an online scam. who is behind the scam and how  you can protect your computer. >> now to a story of strange pelican behavior. there are reports of those big birds acting strangely. ken pritchett talks to experts about the problem and is live now at international bird rescue center in fairfield. >> reporter: i want you to take a look inside at this.

there are more than it 30 brown pelicans here, 90% of them arrived here at the center hungry but the why is not clear. it could just be nature at work. at ocean beach pelicans high overhead are a common sight. this bird did something strange. it landed next to beach goers and then blocked this woman's way. >> right in front of my car. just stopped. i put on my flashers and tried to -- get it away. >> reporter: that failed so she picked it up and eventually was taken to a less center. it's happening more and more. >> 56 brown pelicans, we are going through 400 pounds of fish a day which costs us $700 a day. >> reporter: isabel with international bird rescue san francisco bay center said some of them are lifed injured but most are just hungry young birds inspectioned at hunting. >> they are just looking for

food and if people are offering them some kind of food or somehow getting them in closer to them then they will do whatever they can to get fed. >> reporter: there could be a lack of food or a die off of a growing population. they were listed as endangered just a few years ago. she said if someone sees a hungy pelican they should leave it alone at first. >> we want to see if they can eventually start foraging on their own. >> reporter: the bird center said this time last year they saw hungry pelicans but the numbers are greater this year which may add to the thought that this could be the result of a growing population. in fairfield. ken pritchett. >> a quake in the fort bragg area may have rattled people awake a little earlier than they would like. a 4.3 quake shook the area just after 5:00 this morning. there are no reports of

heat. you can seat fog, very dense fog hugging the coastline from pacifica, half moon bay. san francisco, there is the golden gate bridge and that has the stronger on shore breeze. cooled us off five to ten degrees from yesterday. here is a look at the overall pattern. yesterday we had a shallow marine layer. today that marine layer deepened to about 500 feet and couple that with the on shore breeze. we cooled off sot warmest around the 90-degree mark that. will change starting tomorrow. as far as current numbers, pretty pleasant and cool for san francisco. 59 degrees but 80s toward fairfield. concord and livermore. here is the forecast model showing you the fog, first thing monday morning hugging the coast, still a few patches in to the bay. once again this could be dense and start out the monday morning, most areas, see in the 50s.

. fire crews have now fully contained a fire near redding. the dale fire destroyed two structures, damages five homes and burned more than 1200

acres. about 100 people were also forced to evacuate but they have since been allowed back home. the cause of that fire is under investigation. the san carlos city council is set to meet tomorrow to discuss possible station closures. the mercury news reports staffing shortages have prompted the department to close the alameda fire station, roughly 30% of the time over the next officials say it shouldn't hurt response time because neighboring fire departments would respond if needed. >> in election 2012 news tonight it's back to campaigning after the holiday. the president returned to the white house this afternoon from camp david. he goes to the heart land on tuesday for a speech in cedar rapids with events closer to home later this week. the current, focus of his campaign is jobs and the economy. a poll gave him a two point edge in swing states.

. the violence in syria got worse, 35 were killed across the country today including 17 civilians. a special envoy hopes to save peace from the bloody conflict. now aided by russian arms flowing to the syrian government. >> reporter: he is in syria trying to save the six point peace plan he put forth four months ago and said so far his plan that was to start with a crease fire in april has failed. he told a newspaper that significant efforts have been made to try to resolve this situation. obviously we have not succeeded and perhaps there is no guarantee that we will. 50 people were killed on saturday and more than 14,000 have been killed since trouble started in march 2011. here in washington the former un ambassador said a main

missile. this is government supplied video. the defense minister said that the missile's specific guidance system makes it resistant against any sort of electronic warfare. and china is struggling with two mine disasters. today crews continued to pull out workers from the flooded mine. eight men are underground. nearby a gas explosion killed seven. the police have arrested the owner of the first mine. it flooded on wednesday but the accident wasn't reported for hours delaying the rescue. >> nucleus about a mystery illness that's claimed dozens of children in cambodia. over the last four moss 62 cases of the illness have turned up. 60 of those children died. the mosquito born illnesses explode during this time of year there because of the many pools of stagnant water where they breed. it's not clear if they are carrying the illness.

. recapping the top stories, friends and colleagues today remembered a jockey killed last week during a race at alameda county fair. the 33-year-old had a fatal head injury after he fell off his horse during a race thursday night. officials say vendors and employees donated $4,000 to help his family return his body to mexico burial.

a firefighter suffered minor burns today. it the fire was reported this morning. neighbors say they smelled smoke coming that building before. investigators say they didn't see any evidence squatters were inside that building. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a broken down pickup truck is believed to be the cause of a chain reaction crash in san mateo overnight that left a person dead and another injured. the five vehicle accident happened just before one this morning on southbound highway 01. part of the freeway was shut down but reopened around 4:00 this morning. >> the fbi warned about malware knocking out internet service to hundreds of thousands across the world. we are now just hours from that happening. >> reporter: thousands may soon find they can't get on the internet. >> there will be people who can't get on because it's not very many, they are estimating

nationwide it's between 60,000. >> reporter: that's because some computers affected with malware that redistricts the web browsing to fake sites. >> if you went to am.com it may send to you a fake apple and maybe ads or things you that didn't want. >> reporter: the fbi said that more than four million in about 100 countries were infected with the malware. here more than a half million computer was affected, even nass was hit. the crooks made millions by redirecting internet traffic before they were busted in what the fbi called operation ghost click. they replaced the fake servers with temporary clean ones but as of 9:00 p.m. sunday those will be taken down. >> that's part of computers, nowadays. >> reporter: amanda working on her laptop wasn't worried. >> it seems like that's part of life. have you to protect your

the land is where the occupy the farm movement started. one said she is in favor of the project. >> i think it's going to be a very productive project. i supported it. > officials at city hall expect dozens of people including members of the occupy movement to pack the meeting tomorrow night. because of the increased interest in the plan city leaders have moved their regular city council meeting location for tomorrow night. it'll be moved from the albany city hall to the community center. that's on marin avenue. the meeting will start at 7:30. residents living near the airport may notice more noise than usual over the next few weeks but not from airplanes. tomorrow they will continue work on its 200 million-dollar terminal 1 renovation project. crews will drive concrete into the ground. it's scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

monday through friday. it'll last until july 20th. the ground breaking for a new control tower at the airport is set for tomorrow. transportation secretary and the head of the faa are expected to join the mayor and the sfo airport director. officials say the 221-foot tall tower will create local jobs and increase passenger safety. >> organizers say the avon walk for breast cancer that wrapped up today raised $4.8 million. thousands of people started the 39-mile walk yesterday at fort mason. the route took them through san francisco, across the golden gate bridge and ended last night. today though early this morning the walkers reversed course and took part in clothes ceremonies at fort mason this afternoon. bay area breast cancer groups will benefit from all of that money raised. inmates at prison held a second day of their own breast cancer walk. it's the 4th year for the

temperatures inland around 100 degrees. this was the pattern for today. a pretty weak system another to the north and the west. the main producer of that stronger on shore breeze. today we cooled off. just a one day deal. we head into monday but especially for tuesday and wednesday, high pressure returns, this is the same system that warmed up a good part of the nation with the record setting temperatures and this will boost our temperatures tomorrow but especially by tuesday. warmest on tuesday will be in the upper 90's. by wednesday we could have a few locations around 100. the real heat, mainly for the inland spots, still warm around the bay. we will have a little bit of a on shore breeze and the beaches not warm up as much. mainly in the 60s to the lower 70's. here is the forecast model showing you this once again. watch out for the dense fog. the coast and around the bay. this is at eight monday

diamondbacks. a long but fruitful afternoon and evening for the a's today. it was a pacific coast league throw back game featuring the uniforms of the oakland oaks and raniers. runs hard to come by and the a's took a 1-0 lead. a ground ball between third and short. the throw can only go to third where weeks is safe. crisp comes home from third on the infield hit. a short time later his day was done. he takes off and steals second but apparently jams his thumb on the base. he left the game, got a tape job. the angels got their only run in the 6th. saunders with the hit. dustin comes home. it's 1-1. they'd that way through 13 and 11 pitcher. finally with perez on, a single, reddick, the gap in left center. he can run and the oaks -- a's, had a 2-1 win.

simpson had a two shot lead coming in but faded, potter, 17 with the eagle, rolls in and fuses a blayoff with kelly. they had to play three extra holes and at 18 it was potter getting this close to a hole in one. he then made the birdie after a final round 64, it became another play tore win for the first time this year. south koreanchoc came in to the final round of the women's with a six stroke lead. she needed some of that surviving a triple bogie on the back nine. nothing wrong with this approach. she sets herself up for birdie and could manage just a one over parr73 after shooting a 65 yesterday. she parred out. to win her first major for the 24-year-old came in ranked number five in the world. another hilly stage in the tour de france.
