gunshots rang out soon after closing time at this north bay bar but residents tell us this bar is a hot spot for violence. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we're getting more information on arrests made after an early- morning shooting in the north bay. it happened outside the el punte restaurant in santa rosa. ktvu ate alex savidge joins us

from the scene where another shooting happened seventh months ago. >> reporter: there have been several attacks within the past year here. it's unclear what led up to the gunfire here in the parking lot early this morning that left one man wounded. we know the shooting happened right after the place closed. 0-year-old jose chavez was shot in the chest and knee right outside the restaurant. a police officer actually saw him trying to drive off in his own truck. was eventually treated at the hospital and then released. two men have been arrested for that shooting. this morning's violence comes after a deadly shooting outside this same bar that happened inner -- november. this morning we talked with a friend of one of the victims in that previous shooting who didn't want to show us his face but told me there are a lot of problems at this restaurant and bar. >> for me and the community, i think they should shut it down.

really bad for the -- not just for the -- for the old people for the young kids. i mean, we have to save the place here in santa rosa. >> reporter: santa rosa police released new information about an incident last week. they tell me there was a here just last friday in which a woman was arrested after she smashed a bottle over the head of another woman. a waiter here that we talked to this morning just showing up for work tells me he's worried that the restaurant may have to shut down because of all of the violence. >> this is the only job i have and i don't want the place to be closed. >> reporter: and we did try to talk with the owner of the restaurant early this morning. he was out here at the crime scene. he did speak with investigators. i tried to speak with him on camera. he declined. i asked him if he was concerned

about the violence at the restaurant. he had no response. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. oakland police say two people are recovering from gunshot wounds near an attempted robbery near the oakland zoo. police say a suspect tried to rob the two victims at the intersection of 107th and macarthur boulevard around 9:00 p.m. last night. the victims resisted and the suspects opened fire and then fled. both people were hit but we're told their injuries were not life-threatening. it took more than five hours for a contra costa county firefighters to put out a fire fueled by a gas line. christien kafton has more. >> reporter: firefighters began to roll in around 3:30 and by the time they arrived, the building was engulfed in flame. it only took about 40 minutes to contain. but there was another problem.

>> woe have a hose line on it -- we have a hose line on it. it's just burning itself up as it comes up to the ground. we're just monitoring it and making sure the flames don't create any more issues. >> reporter: by 8:0, pg&e drews -- by 8:30 pg&e crews had pinched it off to cut off the flow of gas. this is the second fire to weapon through this home this year. the fire this morning finished the job from january. sharon ross said workers were told to demolish the house but could not until pg&e removed the gas meter. she said -- she said that happened -- >> we apologize for the technical problems that made the audio very hard to hear from that report. meanwhile a saratoga home suffers a lot of -- a lot of damage from a fire. no one was inside. the home was vacant, possibly due to a remodeling project.

the flames had fully engulfed the house by the time firefighters arrived. >> if there's not a lot of furniture in the house, there's not a lot of -- big load. if we get a call for a home that's vacant that has the fire that that's -- that usually means it's been burning for a while, with that type of situation. >> the caught of the fire is under investigation. the chp officer trying to rescue an injured hiker ended up getting critically injured. in a tang twist, it was the hiker who came to the rescue. this happened last thursday. officer tonally stanley was starting to climb an embankment. the hiker had been a trauma surgeon in afghanistan so that he was carried down the incline by other hikers to help the

reporting sexual abuse. this man was arrested. police say the complaint made to her by him was not reported to police as required by law. >> unfortunately, the results are tragic. another child was molested after the child made the report. we believe forensic evidence may have been lost. witnesses are unavailable to us. there was also our -- our -- it's far-fetching. >> reporter: a parent of another student came toward in january and that led to chandler's arrest. his trial is expected to take place next month. now, prosecutors say the charge against the principal is a misdemeanor. if convicted, she faces up to six months in jail. prosecutors say they expect her to turn herself in to police. matt keller, ktvu channel 2 news.

a controversial decision on a plot of uc berkeley land drew dozens of people there this morning. ab abe city leaders approved development plans -- albany city leaders approved development plans overnight. occupy the farm members have been using the land for urban farming. opponents of berkeley's proposed sit-lie law are expected to pack a city city council meeting this afternoon. the city council could decide tonight whether the measure would go on the ballot. it would ban sitting on sidewalks during certain hours. some say this would divert police officers from more significant crimes. the progressive think tank

said many people feel that school work is too easy. more than half of the seniors in high school said their civic work is a breeze. some said they don't understand their teacher's questions in class and others, they are not learning in class. the datas should be used for teachers and students. ktvu.com has a link to the state by state report as well as the survey's findings. doping allegations against lance armstrong have resulted in lifetime bans. the us antibanned workers who worked with armstrong during his seven tour de france rides. armstrong continues to say he did not take steroids.

an unattended stove may have sparked a fire at a restaurant overnight in albany. firefighters arrived at the restaurant on san pablo avenue shortly after 3:00 a.m. an albany police officer who happened to drive by reported the fire. no one was hurt. as the fire season heats unin contra costa county, people in one city are still down a fire station weeks before it closed. station 16 shut down after crews found high levels of mold and last infestation. the fire chief says he's waiting for lab results on the air quality and the fire

invasion of privacy suit. they will pay $22 million for bypassing the default settings of apple's safari browser. google also inadvertently attached the software to some iphone users. a san francisco superior court judge ruled yesterday that klineer perkins cannot force a junior partner to take her complaint to binding arbitration. this woman said she was pressured into sex by another junior partner and after she complained, she was given poor performance evaluations. the ruling indicates the case may be settled out of court for millions of dollars.

the so-called mill fire is burning in colusa county. it started on saturday and has grown to 13,000 acres. the u.s. forest service says the fire is 20% contained. the cause is under investigation. the sights complex fire in colusa is now 50% contained. it's now burned more than 3900 acres. calfire says firefighters are dealing with high winds and high temperatures. no structures have burned. there's no word on what sparked the fires. it was a spare-the-air-day. this is a live look around mt. diablo where air quality officials say pollution could reach unhealthy levels today. people are being asked to reduce their driving, avoid burning wood or using gas-power tools. and we're looking at a hot, dry trend across the hills

there were some early gains on wall street thanks to a european plan to rescue spanish banks. but lower profits from technology companies and a steep drop in oil prices made the numbers like this -- more employers, though, are hiring these days and the labor department says that's a hopeful sign for the nation's struggling job market.

new figures show job openings increased to 6.3 million postings in may. that's up from 3.4 in april. but the labor department also warns that layoffs had increased. there are 12.7 million americans without work. egypt's parly minute convened today in defiance of a court order that disbranded the claim berand -- disbanded the chamber and brought down muhammed morsi. the session only lasted five minutes but it intense fined the struggle between morsi and military leaders. today, hillary clinton talked about egypt adifficult transition. >> i'm well aware that change is difficult. it's not gonna happen quickly. wife aseen over the last few day -- we've seen over the last few days that there is a lot of work over egypt to keep this transition on course. >> supporters for president morsi also gathered outside a

cairo court, ahead of cases niled against the president to ren -- filed against the president to reinstate egypt. a 5-month-old baby was detected inside a carry-on bag in the united emirates. they found the boy during a checkpoint x-ray. you can see him in the machine. they parents didn't have a visa for the boy and tried to sneak him in. plans are taking shape for president obama's next visit to the bay area. we're told the president will arrive on july 23rd and this trip will focus on oakland. he's set to take part in a round table discussion possible which at the -- possibly -- possibly at the oakland tech center and attend a private dinner in the east bay.
