police received a 9-1-1 call at 3:00 this morning. the caller said that the woman inside was unresponsive. one man said he tried but failed to resuscitate her. so far police have not made an arrest in this case. but homicide investigators are still out there looking for answers at the scene. it was also a scene for s.w.a.t. teams overnight in oakland. police tossed in the flash bang grenade. they surrounded the house for four hours and they moved in. they had a large armored v ehicle. police are looking for a s hooting suspect but we're told that he was not there when the police moved in. a substitute teacher at a north bay high school has been arrested and charged with child

molestation. the details making parents crunch this this morning. he began a relationship with a 15-year-old girl in 2010 and that inappropriate relationship lasted almost a year. he approached a 16-year-old and began an inappropriate relationship that lasted from march to june of this year. according to the register, daniels texted the girls. he's a former vintage high school player and has been a substitute teach er and

assistant coach since 2010. he will no longer work at any schools in the district. he offers his services as a strength coach in the area. he is now in jail charged with a number of allegations, using the computer to set up the alleged rendezvous and they're urging anyone with information to contact them. christian, time now 6:03. we are tracking the progress of a dolphin. it was found swimming in the creek near san francisco international airport. people say they saw the dolphin in the creek yesterday. ktvu is out there now. you're talking to marine biologists who are trying to help the dolphin. >> reporter: we're hoping to see the dolphin or waiting to see if the dolphin is still in the water. the water level is pretty low.

there's a volunteer from the marine mammal center taking a look and he doesn't think that the dolphin is still here. he's been walking the mile and a half trail that goes around this area and says that the dolphin should be easy to see. they had experts watching it yesterday. want to show you some video. it was coming up for air every 30-60 seconds. so people walking the trail and people who came out to see the dolphin says it was easy to s pot. he hasn't seen it and thinks it may have gone back into the bay. >> i got up at 5:30 this morning to check on the dolphin. we're not sure why he was here. he seemed pretty happy y esterday. but we wanted to make sure nothing weird happened o vernight. the animal appears to have left. i don't see him. we'll keep monitoring the

situation all day. if anyone does see him and call it in, we'll come back out. >> reporter: back here live this morning. why would the dolphin have left? they're not sure why the dolphin came in the first place. it hit low tide about 3:00 this morning and maybe that was enough to convince the dolphin to head back to the deeper w aters in the bay. he's convinced at this point the dolphin is not there, we'll keen an eye on things. if it reappears they'll come back out. just about an hour and a half from now, joe biden will be speaking at the naacp convention in houston. the republican candidate mitt romney was there and he was b ooed during his speech at the convention when he said he

would repeal president obama's health care reform law if he's elected. coming up, the other statement by romney that vice president biden expected to jump on. we're learning that the candidate mitt romney will come here to the bay area for some fund raising on july 22nd, the day before president obama is scheduled to make another stop here. romney will attend a $50,000 per person luncheon at the home of a billionaire. he will appear at an event at the fairmont hotel in san francisco. his last stop, a private $50,000 per person dinner in pacific heights. we're learning more about president obama's swing through the bay area the following day, july 23rd. he will attend a $35,000 per person dinner at a democratic supporter. he's scheduled to appear at the fox theater in oakland.

flames. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that number of evacuees is now over 100 people. take a look at the effort here being brought in from around the straight. more that 250 firefighters from around the state have been brought here including strike teams from the bay area just among the emergency vehicles. look at the haze in the d istance. we have the fairgrounds that is the staging area about 10-miles away and the smoke and the smell of the fire very thick here. about 200-acres burned in steep rugged area. the terrain coupled with the triple-digit temperatures is creating tough conditions for firefighters. the temperatures fell overnight and the humidity went up. gave a bit of a break for the firefighters. we're starting to feel the wind pick up that could add to the challenges in fighting the fire. the fire stands at 20% c ontained. more than 100 people have been evacuated to near by shelters

and they're bracing themselves for another day of tough fire fighting as we are expecting another triple-digit day. a larger fire burned 16,000- acres, flames are getting close to some homes and ranches. firefighters say they hope to have it contained by next f riday. sal is back. how are we doing in traffic? >> we're doing okay. we have had a couple minor things but the general commute looks good it's getting crowded. is this a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. we have some slowing in some of the cash lanes, for the most part, we are doing pretty well if you're driving into the city on the bridge. it has been a decent drive for you. the morning commute looks good

if you're driving on the f reeway, southbound, heyward into the south bay looking at the map system for the south b ay, you can see that northbound 281 and 85 off to a good start. not a lot going on. the yellow on the left, there's a tree down on highway 9 at 35 near say toga, watch for s lowing. it's going to be cooler today. 105 yesterday. it will take another day for parts of lake county and even santa clara. the fog is lifting. the little guy there, that's all it takes. a spin in the atmosphere. the fog which was here is coming up. it will increase. around the bay, 10-15 degrees cooler. tomorrow we'll continue the

. we had the job reports c oming in. we'll have all of the business news coming up. go ahead and smile and say good morning to you. thank you for joining us on k tvu, it's a thursday, j uly 12th. i'm dave clark. investigators have been c alled to a motel in oakland. the starlight motel on macarthur boulevard where a woman's body was found. >> just within the past half hour, we watched as the coroner removed the body from the s econd-floor room here at the motel across the street from us. it was a 19-year-old who was shot once in the head according to a police sergeant on the scene. it happened inside the room where you can see investigators are collecting evidence at this point. homicide detectives are here t rying to figure out who killed

this woman. it happened at the s tarlightmotel in oakland. investigators have been taking photos at the scene, collecting evidence inside room 11 where everything took place. the 9-1-1 calls came in about 3:00 this morning. paramedics showed up quickly and found the woman unresponsive and she was declared dead. police describe how the woman that was here at the motel tried to save her life before first responders arrived. >> there was one individual t rying to render aide to her. they say they talked to a friend who tried to piece it together and they are questioning guests. so far, no arrests have been

announced. it's been a very busy week for oakland homicide investigators, they have investigated 7 homicides in the city since friday and the homicide, the shooting death of a young woman, the 63rd of the year here in oakland. live here, ktvu. overnight fires at a concord high school may have been arson. two trash can fires were r eported about 11:00. no major damage reported. but firefighters had to knock down a gate to get to the f lames. so far, there's no word of any arrest. oakland's largest medical marijuana dispensary is rallying against officials that t hreatened to shut it down. they will hold a news conference with the state officials and city leaders set for 9:00 a.m.. federal prosecutors threatened to seize that property earlier

this week. medical marijuana is legal under california law but not under federal law. convicted wife killer a ttacks the character of his dead wife during opening statements of his civil rights case in the wrongful death of his wife. he attacked her character. his children are suing him for $15 million for emotional d amages. oakland police are looking into whether gunshots fired are related to a fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy. the news crew heard 25 shots as they left a vigil for that boy. it appears no one was hurt but the back window of a green chrysler was blown out. bullet holes in the car.

they say people jumped out and ran. the family pleading for anyone with information about the s hooting to come forward. administrators hired one to head up the investigation. it evaluated how joe paterno, the former head coach and how top administrators handled the allegations against jerry sandusky. it accuses penn state including joe paterno of total disregard for the safety and welfare of

across the way watching as well. the volunteer for the marine mammal center was here this morning. he left about 30 minutes ago after concluding that the dolphin was likely gone. he spent a little bit of time walking about a mile and a half up and down the slew looking for signs of the dolphin and didn't see him. that was different from yesterday people people saw it pretty easily. the man said that they saw the dolphin every 30-60 seconds p opping up for air, swimming in circles, very visible. he was not visible at all this morning. he thinks that the dolphin left on its own. >> it got two feet lower at low tide than yesterday. hopefully they encouraged him to go back out to the bay. back live here, we talk about the low water. you can see how low it is.

high tide isn't until about 8:30 this morning according to the information we looked up and we don't know how deep the water i s, maybe shallow enough to convince the dolphin it was time to go. they're concerned if it got into this, any rescue is a delicate procedure. the hope was he could make it to the bay on his own and he may have done that. we understand that there's some fog, the natural air- conditioning rolls? >> i bet people in livemore, bringing it in. look agent the picture on the golden gate bridge. some thick fog and driving more importantly is going to be tough there. it's hard to see coming into san francisco. looking at the san francisco

looks likely with the fog starting to increase. vallejo, berkeley, oakland, heyward and down to mountainview starting to cool down. higher clouds staying to the south. a few could drift over. that's the key. that low there. won't bring us rain but lifts the fog up. the difference is still extreme from upper 50s, 60s by the coast, 70s to 90s pushing towards the east. low clouds ramping up. and they're up around about a thousand feet. maybe higher for some. the cooler pattern will show itself and also the weekend. fog, sun cool to hot. cooler by the coast. the fog is showing signs of l ifting. lake county will take another day to cool off.

morning, homicide detectives are still out at the scene at the starlight motel. the wildfire burning in the sierra foothills. 2 dozen people have had to evacuate. it started about 3:30 yesterday afternoon in placer county. it's only about 20% contained. a santa clara oversight board is playing hardball. they shifted $30 million in redevelopment money away from the stadium project and gave it to local schools. the mercury news reports that the board has hired an attorney from fresno. a teacher has been arrested accused of having sex with two teenage girls. christian is in napa with more on the evidence they say they

. they are listening to the acting executive director of the loan programs office in the department of energy and they are talking about a bay area company, the act would ban the department of energy from giving out any more loan guaranties. probably remember that the proposal is in response to the $535 million government loan to fremont base company right before it went bankrupt. they're releasing the findings and discussing that ban. a sad story this morning. an olympic gold medalist from here in the bay area has died. ann died on june 26th. she won two gold medals in f ree-style events in 1948 and ran the ann kurtis school of
