the bay. >> a teacher in napa accused of having sex with two students. how he reportedly contacted them. mornings on 2 begins now. >> good morning to you. i'm dave. >> a young woman's body was found on the second floor of the starlight motel on mcarthur bull tar. alex joins us with new information. >> we just smoke with one of the investigating officers of this case, saying this is the place police have known for some time where prostitution tends to happen. officers arrived here early this morning and they found the body of that young

woman up inside a second floor room here. this is a 19-year-old who had been shot once in the head. homicide detectives came here and tried to figure out who killed this woman obviously. this is the starlight hotel, 10000 mcarthur boulevard. the 911 calls came in 3:00 this morning. paramedics showed up here and they found the woman unresponsive and eventually she was declared dead here at the scene. the motive for the killing was still unclear but a short time ago an officer on the case gave us background on this motel. >> we've had issues here in the past. when i used to work the streets out here. but as far as problems, it is known for prostitution in the hotel rooms but that's about it. >> investigators also tell us

there was a friend of this woman who was here at the motel this morning, administered cpr to her, trying to save the young woman's life but was unsuccessful in those attempts. that man is being interviewed right now and we're told he's being cooperative. no arrests so far in this case and it's been a very busy week for oakland homicide investigators. they've investigated seven homicides since friday. alex savage, ktvu eyewitness news. >> police set off flash bang grenades between birch and cherry streets. the house was surrounded for more than four hours. police parked a large armored vehicle in front of the home. when officers moved in, the shooting suspect they were looking for was not there. penn state university is reacting to the findings of an investigation in to the jerry

sandusky sex abuse scandal. the report blasted the administration and the late head coach joe paterno for disregarding the safety and welfare of victims. let's go live to the news conference. >> our team conducted over 430 interviews of various individuals. i did my first one myself before thanksgiving and the last one this friday. the evidence found by investigators found critical contemporaneous correspondents from the time of these events. our investigative team made independent discovery of the critical 1998 and 2001 e-mails, the most important evidence in the case. we also confirmed through our separate forensic review that the correct year of the sandusky sexual assault witness by michael mcqueary was 2001, and not 2002,

county started 3:30 yesterday afternoon. triple-digit temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions fueled those flames. it's already burned 220 acres. it's about 20% contained. we're going to bring you much more on the efforts to put out the flames and a live report coming up at 7:35. a much bigger fire is burning in the mand ecino national forest. it's 35% contained. the firefighters hope to have it fully contained by next friday. >> 7:06. a woman and three teenagers were rescued after running in to trouble on russian river near heelsburg. they didn't have a cell phone but family members reported them missing when they failed to return home. the chp helicopter plucked the woman, her daughter,

their nephew, and the daughter's friend to safety about 10 hours after they had set off. everyone is said to be okay. this morning marine biologists are tracking the progress of a wayward dolphin in south san francisco. claudine wong is live to explain why a volunteer for the center believes the dolphin may have made its way back in to the bay. >> the dolphin was surfacing quite frequently yesterday around this plant here. they said every 30 to 60 seconds they'd see him come up for air, a 10-foot bottle nose dolphin, but they haven't seen him this morning. this morning, about 5:30, a volunteer came out here looking for any sign of the dolphin. he did not see him. they did see the dolphin quite a bit yesterday though. i want to show you video of that dolphin

as it was coming up out of the water. lots of people noticing the fin. what they were hoping for was that he was out exploring the canal and creek and that he would go back on his own and it looks like he did just that. >> if he had still been here and there were reasons for distress, then maybe we'd have to devise a plan to get him out of here. dolphins are hard to relocate. they're very fragile. >> a noe -- no-sighting is good news because they won't have to worry about any kind of rescue effort even though the dolphin was considered healthy. they think what convinced the dolphin to head back to deeper water was low tide that happened overnight. i talked to a gentleman who walked his dogs here and said he sees dolphins at high tide come through here. maybe the dolphin was exploring

and has now gone back to the deeper waters of the bay. claudine wong, ktvu news. >> you were dealing with fog in some areas and other problems. how are we doing out there? >> it's foggy, dave. as a matter of fact we have had fog out there this morning if you're driving in san francisco and marin county. this is the bay bridge. i think you'll like it. it's light r than -- lighter than it normally is. in the east bay, had a report of a crashed car in to a wall on 580 westbound. that one appears to be not blocking any lanes. it's on the off ramp. this is a look at the golden gate bridge. we did find the fog and steve has been telling us pretty thick in southern marin and san francisco.

heading south from heyward, also heading north in to oakland. southbound traffic not looking all that bad driving from hayward to fremont but it's a little congested. >> if you're inland it's going to be warm to hot but as sal was showing you on the pictures, there's a lot of fog out there. it's been held in check because high pressure said you're not going anywhere. that's not the case now as it starts to back off a little bit. it will allow the sea breeze to kick in. the fog is lifting a little bit moving over the bay. the biggest drop will be around the bay. it will still be hot inland for a couple locations. still 90s to 100s. by tomorrow everyone starts to cool down. 65 livermore, that's warm. 60 mountain view. santa rosa holding at 52. that's the key, that little low coming in. there will be a stronger one reinforcing it as we go in to the weekend and next week. this is the leading edge of the

cooler pattern. again, the difference in the temperatures is like big. 50s, 60s, to 90s and 100s. some of the 100s will get replaced by 90s tomorrow. there will be a 40-degree spread on some of the temperatures. on the weekend, there will be a bigger fog bank. cooler for the bank. it will still be hot inland but a few locations go down 2 to 4 degrees. livermore was 104 yesterday, still in the 100s antioch to clear lake. clear lake, 102. this is always the toughest call when usually it's 3 and out, the heat, and then when does the sea breeze kick in? it will kick in for some today but it will take tomorrow for everyone to get on. it's 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and inland still some 100s. cooler pattern.

>> 7:29. a substitute teacher at a north bay high school has been arrested of child molestation. details are really making parents cringe this morning. >> the napa police sergeant who is in charge of the investigation came on duty about a half hour ago. we put in a couple calls to him and trying to get more details about the investigation. brock daniels is in custody at napa county jail. napa police arrested the assistant football coach on tuesday. daniels worked at

vintage high school in napa. we were there earlier this morning and got video of the school. according to police, daniels contacted the girls through a social networking site and began a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl in 2010 and that inappropriate relationship lasted almost a year. investigators say he approached a 16-year-old and began an inappropriate relationship with that girl which lasted from march till june of this year. according to the napa valley register, daniels also texted the girl to set up liaisons at his home. daniels is a former vintage high school football player himself and has been an assistant coach since 2010. police say daniels was not the girls' coach. the district says he'll no longer work at any schools in the district. we also found a web page for daniels where he offers his services as a strength and conditioning coach. he's now in jail charged with a number of sexual allegations including using a computer to set up the

alleged rendezvous. police are urging anyone with information to contact with them. we've been in contact with napa police trying to get more detail about this investigation and find out the status of that investigation, find out if they're looking for more victims in this case. for now, we're live in napa. >> oak lbd police are looking -- oakland police are looking in to whether gunshots fired last night are related to tuesday's shooting of a boy. 25 shots as they left the vigil for hadari askari. the back window of a green chrysler convertible was blown out and bullets left holes in the car. our crew says people inside the car jumped out and ran. meanwhile, the family of askari is pleading for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. there's a crime stopper reward to up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest. witnesses

heard multiple gunshots and saw two to four people in black hoodies running from the scene on leona creek drive on tuesday. the motive for the shooting is unknown. >> california's largest marijuana dispensary is being threatened with federal action. u.s. attorneys posted a notice at harbor side health center this week, threatening to close the shop and its sister location in san jose. prosecutors say the dispensaries violate federal drug laws. harbor side will be holding a news conference at 9:00 this morning. alameda county is considering forcing drug makers to pay the cost of the disposing of unwanted drugs. the goal is to prevent unused drugs from ending up in bay area waters or in the hands of drug addicts. the measure is the first of its kind here in the u.s. failure to comply could lead to penalties

of up to $1,000 a day. >> hans reiser attacked the character of his dead wife during opening statements. reiser told the jury that his wife nina was jealous of their two children and lied about them being sick. a friend of nina reiser disputed the claims and said she was a loving mother. reiser is serving a 15-year prison sentence for killing his wife at his oakland hills home in 2006. his children are suing him for $15 million for emotional damages. a town is backing down from a controversial dog park ban. it would ban dogs from being off their leash at the park. dog lovers collected enough signatures for a referendum against the band and they rescinded the ordiance all together. >> overnight, fires at a conquered high school could have

been arson. firefighters saw two trash can fires at about 11:00. firefighters had to break a gate just to get to the flames. no word of any arrests. happening right now, a wild fire burning in the sierra foothills has forced more than two dozen evacuations. this fire started about 3:30 yesterday afternoon in placer county, about 40 miles northeast of auburn. triple-digit temperatures, low humidity, dry conditions caused those fires to spread very quickly. it's burned 220 acres. it's about 20% contained so far. a much bigger fire burning in the mandecino national forest. the flames are getting close to homes and ranches. it's 35% contained. firefighters say they hope to have it fully contained by next friday.

a northern california man accidentally set his house on fire while trying to get rid of spiders. he used a blow torch to clear spiders from his backyard. the man caught some dry plants on fire while he was trying to burn up the spider webs. the fire spread to the attic. things got out of control. luckily no one was hurt but the fire caused $25,000 damage. >> 7:36. we're learning about a major cyber attack targeting yahoo users. hackers stole hundreds of thousands of yahoo accounts and passwords from a yahoo server. the particular accounts affected by the attack coming up. . yahoo's board of directors will give the permanent ceo to the man doing the job since may.

chevron forecasting bigger profs in the 2nd quarter. the company says lower oil prices were offset by better than expected numbers from the refineries. chevron says its daily production average jumped 14,000 barrels a day in the first two months of the quarter. with the temperatures going up, businesses are cooling down. all that air conditioning has pg and e asking companies to reduce power use. today is what's called a peek day pricing event. corporate customers will see a surcharge added to their electric rates between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. if they don't try to save power. if they do save, they'll save energy and money. >> another hack attack, this one involving one of the biggest players on the internet. pam cook is in the studio to let us know what's going on. >> this is big. 450,000 yahoo accounts are affected but security experts say that could be just the beginning.

the user names and passwords were reportedly stolen from yahoo voice, voice over internet protocol. the passwords were not encrypted and the information was posted online. that means other hackers can take that information and use it to infiltrate other sites. one security analyst says the passwords are linked to a wide variety of e-mail addresses as well such as yahoo mail and gmail. industry website cnet reports it breach was intended as a wake-up call and not as a threat, and that yahoo security is lax. the advice? change all your pass words now. >> time 7:46. the congressman who push ed for contempt of congress charges against attorney general eric holder is facing his own ethics complaints.

complaints were filed against issa. they say he violated federal law by concluding material from a sealed wiretap in a congressional record. jesse jackson, jr.'s office says he's getting intense medical treatment for a mood disorder. the statement says he's at a residential treatment facility and responding well to treatment. still not sure what kind of mood disorder the congressman has. >> the house of representatives voted mostly along party lines to repeal the president's health reform law. the repeal stands no chance of passing in the senate where democrats have the majority. if it ever got to the president's desk, he would veto it. as more people take up running there's concern about how much is too much.

the party as far as the heat goes. but there's a much stronger sea breeze from raquel. good information. she said cloudy and cold, steve. there's a lot of fog. if the mission has fog, that tells you most of the city is dealing with some of that. a lot of tropical clouds screaming up from the south but they've put on the air brakes and that will deflect it off toward the east. 65, livermore. most of the fog has filled in on marin. west southwest at 15. if that gets up to 20, that's a sure sign we'll cool down. see that little spin in the atmosphere? that's all it takes. that's going to continue to increase that fog bank over the next 24 to 36 hours. 100s well inland. it takes another day to break down the temperatures. fog needs to get

th. we're beginning with developing news from oakland. a woman's body was found at the starlight motel on mcarthur boulevard during the night. alex savage is live at the eastmont police station right now. investigators are still trying to find out what happened to her. >> still a lot of unanswered questions for investigators. it's been a violent week here in oakland. the 7th homicide just since friday. the latest one happened inside a hotel room, the starlight motel. officers removed the body of this young woman. she was shot in the head. investigators collected evidence and took photos inside the room. it began with 911 calls that came in around 3:00 this morning. that's when paramedics showed up and found the woman unresponsive in the room. she was eventually declared dead. police won't say

if there's anything they're looking at in connection with the crime. it was a nerve-wracking morning for other hotel guests nearby. one woman we talked to told us she heard gunfire and lots of screaming. >> that was too close for comfort. if i would have walked -- you know, out here, and i was thinking of going back out and getting something to drink and something told me stay in the room. that's when it happened. >> police say there was a rescue attempt inside room 11. they say a friend of the woman who was killed actually gave her cpr before first responders were able to get there. that friend is being cooperative with investigators and is being

interviewed. other than that, police say they don't have a whole lot to go on in the way of leads for the investigation and the motive for the killing still remains@dolphin spotted in the water yesterday may have made its way back out to sea. the bottle nose dolphin was spotted in colma creek near highway 101.

marine biologists say the dolphin did not appear to be in distress and they've seen no sign of it this morning. >> it got two feet lower this morning at tide. hopefully that encouraged him to go back out in to the water. >> the dolphin may have been hiding from a predator or simply exploring the waterways. the san francisco couple accused of killing their teenage daughter's alleged pimp will return to court in an hour. they've pleaded not guilty in murdering calvin sneed in bayview. prosecutors say they have surveillance video from an unrelated fbi investigation. they say it shows wilson and williams conspiring to murder sneed minutes before the shooting. >> a lawyer who once represented a triple convicted murderer may lose her license to

practice law. she's accused of smuggling a hit list of jail for bay. brown says she thought it was a love letter. now she's facing possible disisbarment ata hearing that is scheduled for monday. a hearing scheduled this morning for former san jose elementary school teacher facing child pornography charges. after a nine-month investigation, police investigated 50-year-old johnny urias. he'll reportedly enter a plea today. the remains of a world war ii era u.s. marine are being return today the bay area this morning. technical sergeant james sisne grew up in livermore and redwood city. his family helped the military recover his remains and bring them here. the patriot guard

riders will be escorting his remains to a funeral home in just about an hour from now, then on to golden gate national cemetery tomorrow. >> it's 8:03. today is the third spare the air day in a row, but is anyone actually sparing the air? the san francisco chronicle reports bart ridership dropped by more than 5800 passengers on tuesday compared to two weeks earlier when there was not a spare the air day. on the bay bridge, traffic actually increased, more than 3800 tolls were paid compared to two weeks earlier. we asked riders if they pay attention when air quality alerts are issued. >> it's hard to change your commute schedule because someone says it's spare the air day. >> i didn't even know there was a spare the air day until you said something but i can see how people are ignoring it because we're a little individualistic, we don't really see a lot of the big picture. >> the spare the air campaign

the bay bridge toll plaza. that's light. you'll like this getting in to san francisco. if you're driving northbound 101, 280, or 17, south bay traffic is not all that bad. 8:05. let's go to steve . >> good morning, good morning. bigger fog bank out there today and some people have been waving the white flag. some love the heat and some are like where is the fog? it's starting. the fog has been there by the coast which has not gotten in on a big warmup at all. the city hit 71 yesterday and that's just nice, not like 101 or 102. there's been a ton of fog out there and it's been very shallow. it's now lifting, helped along by a system to the north. that's all it takes. it looks like it kill carry us in to the weekend and also in to early next week as well. a couple reports coming in from the mission. very foggy, cool, 52 degrees.

hot cars. one of the latest incidents was tuesday when 3 puppies and two adult dogged were pulled out of a locked car near 15th street and julian. >> dogs looked like they were panting heavily. it was clearly over 100 degrees. it appeared to him that the puppies were lethargic. >> the dogs were rescued and returned to their owner who was cited. a study by san francisco state shows if it's 80 degrees outside, the temperature in the car will reach 100 degrees in 10 minutes. >> customers arrived at the clothes been cleaners to drop off items. weeks ago, the store suddenly closed. police checked on welfare of the owner monday night to make sure she was okay. she told the police she has been very ill. >> the police were here a couple evenings ago because i

they're still smoldering this morning. the investigation may last close to two weeks. several officers have been killed now in a deadly attack on police in pakistan. this happened in lahore, the eastern part of pakistan. officials say gunmen stormed the building and started shooting, killing at least nine police officers. most of the officers are from a different region. they were in lahore for training. a top syrian diplomat has defected. the ambassador to iraq criticized the asad regime of syria for its bloody crackdown. he asked the question: where is the honor in killing your countrymen? that's the second prominent syrian official to break away from the government in the past week and sources say he may be headed to turkey. >> vice president joe biden is right now speaking at the naacp convention in houston. that's the same group that booed mitt

romney yesterday. allison burns joins us this morning. biden got a pretty warm welcome. >> there were quite a lot of cheers when joe biden took the stage 10 minutes ago. let's get to a live look inside the convention hall. biden is coming out swinging this morning, trying to counter mitt romney's argument that he's the best candidate for black voters. at first biden seemed to relish the greeting he got from the naacp crowd. >> you know what they say, flatter is all right as long as you don't inhale. $35,000-per-person fundraiser at the piedmont home of long time democratic supporters quinn delaney and jordan. >> time now, 8:16. new this morn, the -- morning, the u.s. navy sending underwater drones to the golf. the u.s. brought in the sea drones from germany a couple of month ago when iran threatened to close the straight of formus by using mines. an accident in the french alps killed six european climbers. nine climbers were hurt. some are unaccounted for. climbers were believed to be in the expedition from several countries caught in the avalanche. >> a san jose house fire left a family of four looking for a new

place to live. firefighters were called to the mulberry lane home shortly after 5:00 yesterday evening. they had the fire under control about an hour later. damage was mostly contained to the attic. no one was hurt. in santa clara county, an oversight board is playing hard ball. they shifted $30 million of redevelopment money away from the stadium project so the money could be spent on local schools. the news reports they've hired a attorney and legal costs could exceed $50,000. no matter what happens with the case, the 49ers still expect to open the new stadium in 2014. >> the time now, 8:18. with a number of homes facing foreclosure, it went up last month. california saw an 18% spike in the number of homes that entered the foreclosure process in june, compared to the same time last year.

this is the second month in a row the number of households getting the first foreclosure paperwork has jumped. it's taken more than a year for the homes to go from the first filing to the bank taking over those properties. the california state fair kicks off today in sacramento. it will be a full day of activities for children and parents. lots of food, rides, and outdoor learning adventures just to name a few. the fair will run through sunday, july 29th, at the cal expo fairgrounds. >> a new study finds most people choose the first option they're presented with when they need to make a snap decision. researchers at uc berkeley found most participants chose the gum they were first presented with when asked to choose between two similar sticks of gum.

the police department. >> the justice department announces plans to shut down the biggest medical marijuana dispensary in california.

>> welcome back. time is 8:31. the justice department is threatening to close down california's largest medical marijuana dispensary. ktvu's claudine wong is here to tell us why the federal government is taking action against whether they're calling marijuana superstores. >> certainly they believe they're targeting the

superstores, the focus harbor side health center here in oakland. this morning, in about a half an hour we expect a press conference to get underway to address the issue, this press conference being held by the mare, city council men and harbor side folks talking about the latest crackdown by the federal government. the largest shop targeted for closure, suggesting this crackdown. this tends to be an issue between the state law and federal law, what local communities are doing and what the federal government is doing. medical marijuana legal in california, but the u.s. attorney's office saying that they're citing federal law which makes it unlawful to rent, lease, profit or make available for use any place that contributes to the sale of marijuana. so the question this morning is what will they do about harbor side? is it going to be the next on its list of places to crackdown? we'll

continue to watch this situation, but again, the focus is on can oakland give these permits to the medical marijuana dispensaries to operate? can the super stores operate under state law and does it conflict with federal law and what will the feds do about it? claudine wong, ktvu tv news. >> turns -- mayor lee is firing back against accusations saying: enough is enough. the time has come for ross mirkarimi to begin dealing with the facts, reckless and outrageous allegations of perjury have been made about my testimony before the ethics commission. but my testimony before the commission was entirely truthful. mirkarimi's attorney claims mayor lee

perjured himself twice. when he testified he had never discussed the matter with the city supervisor. >> 8:33. a teacher in napa has been arrested for allegedly having sex with two teenage girls. reportedly he worked as a substitute teacher at vintage high school in napa. christian captain joining us live in napa now with more details about the evidence in this case. >> we've moved around a lot this morning. we were at vintage high at about 4:30 this morning, made our way over to the county jail. we're here at napa police department where we're waiting for the detective in charge of the investigation to come on out and give us the latest details on the case. earlier we were over at the jail. the latest custody reports listed brock daniels as still being in custody there. napa police arrested the teacher and coach on tuesday. so far we've learned he's not been able to raise the $1 million set as bail in his case. he worked at vintage high school in napa.

according other the police, daniels contacted the girls through a social networking site and began a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl in 2010 and that relationship lasted almost a year according to police. investigators say he approach he ed a 16 yeer-- 16-year-old. he texted the girls to set up liaisons at his home. he's a former vintage high school football player himself and has been a coach since 2010. police say daniels was not the girls' coach. the district says he'll no longer be working at any schools in the district. we found a web page for daniels where he offers his services as a strength and conditioning coach here in napa. police are looking for additional information and are urging

anyone with information to contact them. that's one of the reasons we're live here at the napa police department to find out what kind of information they're looking for. we hope to get the briefing shortly. if we do we'll try to get it to you as soon as possible. >> 8:35. new this morning, the results of an investigation in to the penn state sexual abuse scandal and the report pulled no punches. it blasts everyone from joe paterno to the school president. reporter david lee miller joins us live with exactly what the investigation uncovered. >> this is the report. 276 pages was release d this morning at 9:00 eastern time. the school's board of trustees had no idea of the contents. they found out when the public did. it's a damming indictment of the school. it report singles out joe paterno, the former president of the school, graham

spanier, as well as the former head of the athletic program, and the former vice president for business and finance at the school. the report says all should have known that jerry sandusky as far back as 1998 was a child predator. the report says authorities covered up the abuse because they feared bad publicity and the consequences the bad publicity would bring penn state. here now is what louis free, the former fbi chief who was in charge of the report said to reporters a short time ago. listen. >> the most powerful leaders at penn state university, mr. spanier, schultz, paterno, and curly, repeatedly concealed facts relating to sandusky's child abuse from the authorities, the board of trustees, the penn state community, and the public at large. >> the closest that this report has to a smoking gun is

identified as an exhibit 2i. it's a handwritten note from gary schultz, the school's at the time senior vice president for business and finance. he took notes as far back as '98. he wrote: is this opening of pandora's box? other children. >> joe paterno apparently did not think the sexual abuse case would taint the image of the school. before his death in january he wrote a letter meant as a newspaper editorial. he believed the case was neither a football or academic scandal and that it would not tarnish the school's reputation. it was not published but was likely leaked by a player who received an advanced copy. >> we've had some slow traffic

in some areas today, especially in the south bay, and also in marin county. let's go to marin county first because we had a crash, southbound 101. it's taken a while for them to get this out of their unfortunately even though it wasn't that serious of an injury crash, it did close one lane at least and the traffic is very slow. if you're driving on highway 94, the slow traffic is still there in antioch. the morning commute is slow in san jose and the south bay. you can see especially 101 all the way up to sunnyville. >> a stronger bigger fog bank today. many locations will cool down after we topped out yesterday. there will still be hot numbers, a few 100s, but it looks like the pattern is starting to turn around here. it takes a couple days for those

well inland to get the effects of the sea breeze but it's starting. one more day locked in this high pattern and we would have maybe had to include the chance of thunder showers and humidity. but the fog moves out, it pushes it out of the area. inland temperatures are near 70 degrees already. some by the coast, the city, 50s, lows to mid. around the bay, the fog has been there the whole time, showing signs of lifting a little bit and that's really going to help some. but not everywhere. you still don't have the rip-roaring sea breeze yet. this is the first one. the second one will drop in and reinforce the cooler pattern as we go in to the weekend and next week. very close. a lot of the tropical clouds did make it in to southern california and parts of central california. they'll start to get pushed off toward nevada and utah. a much bigger fog bank, stronger sea breeze

last night on leona creek drive may be connected to tuesday's fatal shooting, a 15-year-old hadari askari. no one was hurt. wildlife official s say a dolphin spotted in the waters near san francisco international airport yesterday may have already swam back out to sea. it was a bottle nose dolphin spotted in colma creek near highway 101. marine biologists say it didn't appear to be in distress and they've seen no sign of it this morning. a 19-year-old woman found shot to death at a motel. alex savidge is in oakland now. >> investigators right now are interviewing a friend of that victim who actually gave the

woman cpr after she had been shot. oakland police tell me the man is being cooperative at this point. it happened at starlight hotel. she's 19-year-old, from oakland, and had been shot in the head. investigators were there at the motel all morning collecting evidence and taking photos inside the room. the 911 calls came in around 3:00 this morning. paramedics showed up but they found this woman unresponsive and eventually she was declared dead. no arrests have been made so far. police won't say if they're looking at anyone in particular in connection with this shooting. certainly this was a nerve-wracking morning for other hotel guests. >> oh, my god. i heard the gun gunshots. pop, pop. i'm like oh, and i looked out the window and was like oh, heard people screaming and yelling. i thought well, i'm not going to

come out anymore. >> the motel manager i did talk with briefly this morning wouldn't tell me anything about who had been staying in room 11 last night but a police sergeant does say historically the starlight motel is known for prostitution. the motive in this morning's killing remains unclear. police say they don't have a lot to go on as far as leads. they try to piece together the seventh homicide. >> it's 8:49. richmond police are look ing for the men who knocked out a councilman. he went to see a tenant at a property he owns in richmond. a man suddenly burst out of the door, screamed for him to get out and punched morris in the chest. morris passed out and later woke up in his mercedes in golden gate fields five miles

away. his cell phone was right next to him and it's unclear if anything was taken. a southern california republican congressman who pushed for contempt of congress charges against attorney general eric holder is facing his own ethics complain. citizens for responsibility and ethics in washington filed complaint against daryl issa yesterday. the complaints involve allegations at issa violated federal law by including a sealed wiretap in a congressional record. jesse jackson, jr.'s office says he's receiving medical treatment for a mood disorder. the statement says he's at a residential treatment facility and is responding positively to the treatment. >> time is now 8:50. alameda county is considering forcing drug makers to pay the cost of

disposing of unwanted drugs. the goal is to prevent unused drugs from ending up in bay area waters or in the hands of drug addicts. the measure would be the first of its kind in the united states. the failure to comply under this measure could lead to penalties of up to $1,000 a day. two organizations in the south bay are among the winners of a contest sponsored by first lady michelle obama. their dancing is part of the first lady's "let's move" campaign to fight childhood obesity. community groups were invited to make videos to show how they promote healthy eating and exercise. this shows an after school program offered by the south valley family ymca. it won an honorable mention. this video shows a partnership between san jose state

university and the most holy church in santa clara. it also won an honorable mention. now we can tell you all the contest winners will be invited to the white house to meet with the first lady. >> happening now, a wild fire happening in the sierra foothills forced more than two dozen evacuations. it started around 3:30 yesterday afternoon in placer county 40 miles northeastern of auburn. this is new video of the fire in to the news room. triple-digit temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions caused the fire to spread quickly. the fire has burned 2200 acres and is about 20% contained. a much larger fire is burning in amendecino national forest. the fire is 35% contained. firefighters hope to have the fire fully

>> time now, 8:55. just about 10 minutes ago testimony resumed in the civil trial against convicted wife killer hans reiser. yesterday during the opening statements, reiser attacked his wife's character. he told the jury that his wife, nina, was jealous of their two children and lied about them being sick. however, a friend of nina reiser disputed that claim and told the jurors she was a loving mother. hans reiser is serving a 15-year prison sentence for killing his wife in september of 2006. his children are now suing him for $15 million for emotional damages. >> overnight fires at a concord high school may be arson. the firefighters responded to two
