good afternoon. i'm tory campbell. we start with developing news this noon time in north richmond. several people have been shot. this is the scene from news chopper 2. live pictures right now. the sheriff department tells us three people have been shot. this happened around 9:30 this morning at first and grove in north richmond. you can see from these live pictures there is still at

least one police car on the scene. looks like they're going to be leaving the area soon. once again, there are reports of several people shot in north richmond. as we get any more information, we'll get it to you. oakland police are searching for a killer after a woman was found shot to death inside an oakland motel room. alex savage is live. this is the latest in a string of homicides this week. good afternoon. >> good afternoon to you, tori. police >> reporter: police have seen a string of homicides. one council member calls this a crisis. this morning, the coroner removed the body of a 19-year- old woman from the star light motel. investigators tell me she had been shot in the head inside this room on the second floor. other guests heard gunfire around 3:00 a.m. and lots of screaming. >> that was too close for

comfort, you know. i mean, if i were to walk, you know -- >> reporter: a friend of the woman tried to give her cpr before paramedics arrived but she died at the scene. investigators say they have few leads to go on as they search for her killer. this deadly shooting cap as violent week in oakland with eight homicides since friday. a disturbing scene outside of a movie theater in jack london square when several people were wounded by gunfire. council member i goes ignacio dela fuente is we are quid. we have a real crisis. and i don't think that the mayor's office are the police recognize. this >> reporter: he believes that curfew could help. >> people will find an excuse why or we need more comes or because it's the summer.

all the excuse in the world. i think all of us should be really, really ashamed of the fact that we have not been able to control homicide in oakland. >> reporter: and just within the last half hour, i did get a phone call from a spokesman for mayor jean kwan. he told me that the mayor is in meetings throughout the day with the cleave of police. later on today, she is planning to release a statement of some sort regarding this recent string of killings here in oakland. this morning's homicide by the way, the 64th here in this city so far this year. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. and there was a lot of s.w.a.t. action last night. police tossed a flash bang grenade in a home between birch and cherry street. they surrounded the house for about four hours before moving in. police were reportedly looking for a shooting suspect but he was not there during the raid.

>> san francisco police say in recent weeks, they have received more reports of a theft scam. this one targets elderly asian women. the suspects, also asian females convinced the victim they were possessed by civil spirits and they claimed that praying over the victim's money and jewelry would get rid of the spirit. the victims' jewelry and money were placed in a bag during the ceremony but the bag was switched. police arrested three people. and police in napa has seen its first homicide of the year. yellow tape still cordon off the area. this is where investigators say that robin jeevous killed his boy friend by stabbing him

several times. >> he was treated at the scene as quickly as possible. paramedics were called n he was transferred to the medical valley center where he was pronounced dead due to those wounds. >> authorities are withholding the name of the victims until they can notify his family. a wildfire in placer county forced about 200 people to evacuate their homes. the robbers fire started around 3:30 in shirt tail canyon between kolfax. so far, it's burned 220 acres and is 5% contained. there have not been any reports of buildings burned or people injured. 500 firefighters are battling the fire. a much larger fire is burning in the mendicino national forest the mill fire has burned more than 16,000- acres and flames are getting close to homes and ranches. the fire is 35% contained. firefighters hope to vit fully

contained by next fry day the cause is under investigation it is considered the world's largest marijuana dispensary and the feds want to shut it down. the u.s. attorney general posted a sign in oakland. claudine wrong joins with us what the founder is saying and who is now pledging to support his fight to keep it open. good afternoon, claudine. >> reporter: the feds don't like harbor side. they call this a super store that abuses california's medical marijuana laws. now feds think they have a way to shut it down, by going after the property owner who leased this space to harborside. this battle is just beginning, but the owner says he is not going anywhere >> reporter: harborside is promising to fight to keep the doors open. >> we have no intention of closing. we will resist this action with every legal means at our disposal >> reporter: the legal battle

comes in the form of civil forfeiture, the feds putting the landlord on notice kick them out or we'll seize your property. >> they served it with the forfeiture action. >> reporter: an army of supporters stood behind the harborside people. >> i'm very educated about this. i'm trying to save my son's life. they have no idea what they are talking about. when i go here, we work together. >> reporter: oakland city councilman rebecca kaplan says that the federal government is threatening one of the city's largest businesses. >> we cannot afford the loss of money. we cannot afford the loss of time. we cannot afford the loss of jobs that this en at the same times.

>> this is a crazy policy. whoever thought of it must be spoking something a lot stronger. >> reporter: there are 100 plus employees here and harborside last year brought in $22 million, 1.1 million of that went to oakland, 2.2 went to the state of california. live in oakland, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, claudine. we have new developments in the sexual assault case involving giants third base player pablo sandoval. this morning, the santa cruz county sheriff's office announced that sandoval will not be charged with any crime. last month, a 21-year-old woman accused sandoval of sexually assaulting her at the sea scape resort. sandoval denied the charges is saying trai encounter was consentual. today, the d.a. said that there was not enough evidence to charge sandoval. about 30 south bay

firefighters from several agencies responded to a leak at a house on camden avenue around 9:30 a.m. workers put in a fence, breaking a pipeline, sending fumes into neighborhoods. homeowners near the leak were ordered to stay indoors. >> the fact that it's very windy at all create add problem. it was concentrated at the hole and the perimeter around the house. we were getting about 10% of the lower explosive limit. >> reporter: a hazmat team, the santa clara fire department were able to dig through the leak and reopen the pipe. pg&e is now investigating the incident. wildlife officials say a wayward dolphin spotted in shallow water in south san francisco may have gone back toward the bay. the bottlenose dolphin was first seen yesterday in culmar creek. a volunteer with the marine mammal center walked up and down this morning but did not

see the dolphin come up for air. marine biologists say they were not sure why the dolphin went up the creek but it did not appear to be in distress and that's a good thing that it left. >> it's startling. we are not used to seeing that on the west coast very much. we get very excited when we see unusual behavior. the volunteer also said that the tide dropped two feet overnight which may have prompted the dolphin to return to deeper water. a substitute teach another napa under arrest accused of having sex with two students. how he reportedly contacted them. hot summertime temperatures continue to settle into part of the bay area. we'll have more on what the heat will last. vice president joe biden addressed the naacp convention today. demi

breaking news out of vallejo this noon hour. evacuations in and around a post office in vallejo. at this point, we have little information. we do know that the post office at 1050 amador has been evacuated along with the block it sits on. you can see the scene here. witnesses are telling us there is some type of substance that

may be making people sick. this firetruck is one of several blocking off the street in the area around this post office. can you see some crew members there also standing in the street, keeping people away. we are told a hazmat crew is heading that way and we have a crew on the way also. we are working the phones to bring you the latest information and get evacuations around a post office in vallejo, possibly because of a substance making people sick. we'll have an update for you coming up in about 12:25. >> ktvu has learned that a san jose principal turned herself in after being charged with failing to report that a teacher was molesting a student. we told you about the charge against o. b. whalen elementary school. the principal turned herself in

and posted a $5000, accused of failing to report a parent's complaint about the teacher. her attorney said that the complaint was against the conduct of the teacher, not any sexual assault charges. 26-year-old brock james daniels of napa was a opportunity teacher and coach at vintage high school. he is being held on a million dollars bail for allegedly having two months long sexual relationships with two girls ages 15 and 16. investigators say he did not approach them as a teacher but, instead, contacted them through a social networking website. investigators say that there may be more victims. >> in the social network sites, there is the possibility of their being more than one person who is being contacted by mr. daniels. as a result of that, we are looking for any future leads or

continued leads. >> daniels also faces charges of using a computer to sipt the alleged meetings with the girls former fbi director louis free this morning released a scathing report on the scandal at penn state university. this comes after jerry sandusky was convicted of abusing boys over a 15-year period. investigators interviewed 420 witnesses and reviewing e- mails. the report is particularly critical of the inaction by the unfortunate's president and other top officials. >> the most sad inning fact is the total safety and welfare of sandusky's child victims by the most senior people at penn state. the most power men men at penn state failed to take any stems for 14 years to protect the

children whom sandusky victimized. >> reporter: the report also blames the culture at penn state saying that the football program was so powerful that employees were afraid to report sandusky's behavior when they considered it questionable. according to his own word, it appears that joe paterno did not realize the magnitude of the scandal. he wrote a paper editorial a month before his death. he did not consider this neither a football nor academic scandal. the editorial was never printed in the paper, but was likely received by a student who received an advanced copy. vice president joe biden is addressing the naacp convention. he received a much warmer welcome than mitt romney. >> reporter: vice president biden came out swinging

22nd. that's the day before president obama is set to make another fundraising stop here. romney will attend a $50,000 per person luncheon at the woodside home of billionaire tom sebold founder of sebold system. after, that he will appear at an event at the parent hotel in san francisco. last stop, a $50,000 din in pacific heights. president obama will be in the east bay the following day, monday the 23rd. the president will attend a $35,000 per person fundraiser at the piedmont home of long time democratic supporter quinn dulaney and wayne jordan. he is said to appear at a fundraiser at the fox theater in oakland where tickets start at $100 today is the third spare the air day in a row here in the bay area. the air quality management district says that pollution levels are unhealthy today. they are asking people to drive less, not use gas powered mowers are blowers and not to exercise in the afternoon. and people who are sensitive to

unhealthy air should try to stay indoors today. well, i know some you enjoy the hot temperatures but a majority of you, when you sweet me or e-mail me say, steve, steve, give me that breeze. give me that cool sea breeze. anybody around the bay is going to cool off. the fog has always been there the last couple of days. it just has nowhere to go because of the high pressure system on torch it. very, very close, but it will start to move off towards the east here, threatening sierra nevada, maybe. truckee is 86 degrees. that's pretty warm for them we have temperature all over the place again. 60, 70s and 90s. very shallow fog bank. technically, a marine layer, but we call it fog bank. livermore is at 90. san francisco, 63. san jose, 29. that's down a little bit.

santa rosa, 81. i think the' about 5 less in town. that's none ya airport. fair field, 87. not enough of a really rip roaring sea breeze yet but it's raring to go. you can see all that fog there. it's pulling off a little bit and also down the usual. it's ready to go because that system, right there, the first of what will be two which will dig along the west coast. we'll go from one extreme to the other the significant warmup to a big time warming trend. it will be into tomorrow and it will be right into the weekend. temperatures inland will go from the 100s to maybe the low 80s. you may see a few high clouds, even some smoke from the fire, starting to drift back into the bay. that's been in lake county. sea breeze, fog bank.

it's still hot for some inland. lake county, yes, other area, starting to slide back into the upper 80s and lower 90s. 99 pittsburg. 70 oakland. south bay, temperature starting to drop a little bit. a lot of low and mid-80s now instead of th 90s. 67, low to mid-80s but this should do it, tori. that sea breeze cranks up and we'll get into a much cooler weekend and next week looks really cool for us rchls really? >> wow. >> we are doing this really fast. >> a roll are coaster. >> yes. all right, steve. >> any time the latest job numbers are much better than expected. the labor department reported that jobless claims fell to 360,000 down 26,000 from the week before and the lowest level in three years. fewer auto sector layoffs could

be the reason. despite those good numbers, the number of homes facing foreclosure increased last month. cording to re estate tracking firm realtime track, california saw an 18% spike in the number of homes that entered the foreosure s proces in june compared to the same time last year. it's the second month in a row that the number ofhouseholds receiving the first foreclosure paperwork jumped. but it's taking more than a year for homes to go from first filing to the bank taking over properties. just ahead, a check on stocks and how yahoo was apparently hacked. who is claiming responsibilities and a half million account that may be compromised.

stocks actually in positive territory in this last hour of trading after major central banks are preparing coordinated action if the result of the greek election this is weekend lead to turmoil in financial markets. that's providing some relief to investors. taking a live look, the dow turning around, down quite a bit this morning but now it is up 14. the nasdaq is down 17. s&p down 3 another hack attack is being reported. this one is involving one of the biggest players on the internet. 450,000 yahoo accounts are affected but security experts say that could be just the
