looking for patterns in the data that predict where accidents are likely to occur in the future. >> reporter: it is bees used to predict property crime. but it has never been tested on traffic accidents. this shows officers where the next crime will happen. the same applies to traffic accidents. >> they will be given high risk areas to position officers corresponding to different days of the week and months of the year. >> reporter: a team of traffic officers will use this new policing model in september. after six months he will look to see if police were successful. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. authorities are investigating two shootings that injured several people in richmond today. the first shots were fired

around 9:30 a.m. this morning. at least three people were hurt. they say a fourth person was injured in a second shooting 30 minutes later. they believe both shootings were connected and gang related. the san jose principal charged with failing to report sexual abuse is out on jail tonight. we broke the story this week. the principal face as misdemeanor charge for failing to report parent complaints about a teacher. her attorney says the parents did not complain about any sexual in nature, only about his behavior in class. the attorney says he did report that to the district. >> reporter: things are changing on the fire line and the news is not good. we received an update an hour ago. the fire doubled in size and

burning in two directions, prompting evacuation orders for hundreds. the fire is fueled by high temperatures and strong winds and moving fast through the wooded area northeast of auburn. 1,000 firefighters are battling the fire. containment has been cut to 10%. there is better news tonight in maxwell, the fire is almost fully contained. firefighters hope to have it under control by the weekend. fire officials are trying to figure out what made three people sick at a post office this morning. fire crews evacuated the post office a after people began coughing and complained of smelling a gassy order. hazmat investigated. they say there was no evidence of a chemical release or spill

and the streets were reopened. one of san jose's busiest streets was shut down while crewed tried to fix a rubtured pipeline. -- ruptured pipeline. it sent fumes into the neighborhood and residents were told to stay indoors while a hazmat team repaired the pipe. san francisco based wells fargo, the largest home lender today settled a lawsuit for close to $200 million. ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar is live from a wells fargo branch with the impact on customers. >> reporter: not only did wells fargo take a hit in the pocket book, it took a bigger hit in his good guy image. >> reporter: the u.s. justice department accused wells fargo of funding people of color hine

yahoo. yahoo is advising users to change their passwords. and yahoo's next ceo isn't the boss yet. yahoo board of directors would name him today but all things digital, the board is still deciding. yahoo had four i don't see in the past 5 years -- four ceos in the past 5 years. an investigation into a salmonella poisoning of two newborns. she has a report on the hospital's response and whether they think other are at risk. >> reporter: two newborn girls tested positive for salmonella while here at doctors medical center. they contracted the virus within three weeks of each other. >> the state health department is conducting a very thorough

oakland police say they are trying to determine whether a shooting at the scene of a vigil is linked to the teen's killing. our crews were on hand when gunfire broke out last night in the same neighborhood where he was gunned down. by the time officers arrived there were no suspected. a suv went off the highway

this morning sending the driver to the hospital. the vehicle lost control and drove off highway 242 near grant street. the suv hit a tree and went down a hill. emergency crews had to extricate the driver from the vehicle. the chp says he was taken to the hospital. for the first time san francisco public safety officials met to assess the impact of realignment for prisons and jails. under a new program, a san francisco board of supervisors committee heard from agencies today about how each department is handing the inmates. two investigators were sentenced today on charges of using fault identities to gain access to information about

hewlett-packard's board members. they both pleaded guilty to conspiracy. prosecutors say in 2005 hewlett- packard hired their firm to track down who was leaking information to journalists. today they were sentenced to three years of probation and six months of electronic home monitors. two massage parlors closed today. his investigation involves looking at online reviews that mention specific sex acts. a new poll shows a mow jorty of california voters support a move towards legalizing sports betting. 58% are in favor.

but voters are divided when it comes to legalizing online poker. 49% favor it. close to 45% oppose it. the surgery may be the same but a study finds the cost varies in california. look at this map. they compiled data about the most common surgeries performed. bay area patients pay more than elsewhere, 140% more. the orange areas patients pay 120% more. and the green areas pay less. new at 6:00, ktvu's john fowler is live with the discrepancy of surgery costs. >> reporter: we dug into this report. first, the high cost of having a child.

we saw numbers drop today as much as 5-10 degrees. camera outside shows mount diablo, you see it is brown. higher fire danger with the higher temperatures. numbers today into the triple digits. there is the image, the -- the fog at the coast. there is the highs from today. 102 in antioch. 97 fairfield. highs tomorrow are going a be cooler by quite a bit. we will drop another 10 degrees. right now, 54 napa. 54 vallejo. 58 degrees in livermore. 58 in morgan hill. fog fills in along the coast and that pushes inland tonight. not as hot tomorrow. headingheading for a cool down. we cooled down today. we will cool down tomorrow. this is the mechanism. a low-pressure system that lifted the inversion so the fog can get up over the hills.

moisture coming in from the gulf of california and that is triggering thunderstorms and showers. we will be watching that for you. most of that activity should stay south of the bay area. tomorrow, you will have a good push tomorrow morning. pushing into oakland. richmond. that is more than we have seen in a while. temperatures, they will come down. we haven't seen it last few nights and morning, we had fog not making it inland. cool air pushing into the bay. the heat will be there, you just got to get east of livermore. not the 103s like we have been seeing. the reason for that is the fog stretching out. simple formula. the inversion gets fatter. the ozone levels change.
