vallejo firefighters say they will be on the scene of a house fire in vallejo for several more hours. look at this video we got into our newsroom. the fire broke out at 4:00 this morning. we are told the home is a total loss. firefighters are still trying to figure out whether anyone was inside the home when the fire broke out. the flames threatened nearby homes and some neighbors had to be evacuated. time now 6:01. protest in san francisco this morning is threatening to disrupt muni service. ktvu lorraine blanco is joining us live from san francisco. story we first told you about at 4:30 and we know that which particular area is being targeted for this? >> dave, muni's spokesperson say they will do everything they can to make sure service runs as smoothly as possible today. right now we are at market and 14th street. you can see across the street there are several police officers gathering in that parking lot. so far we don't see any protestors out here. people are also being asked to

gather at the muni stop at third anopia lee. today is the one-year anniversary of kenneth hardings death. it started when officers negligented to pay his $2 muni fair. the medical examiner found the bullet that killed harding came n. family and witnesses dispute that. at the time of his death harding was a person of interest in a deadly seat shooting. the activist group humanist workers organized today's muni protest. they are asking for protestors to shut down move knee service from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today. now back here live you can see they there are still no protestors out here yet. just a big police presence. reporting live from san francisco lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. the fbi is now leading the investigation into an unusual case of vandalism. it involved a building on twin peaks in san francisco. and tara moriarty says it had

the potential to cripple much of san francisco's emergency communications system. tara. >> reporter: this radio hub is in a very public place. anyone can walk, bike, and drive up here. it illustrates the point it has vulnerable. why would someone want to break into the perimeter. it happened yesterday morning around 9:00 when city workers discovered that vandals had cut a hole into a chain link fence and slipped inside. they didn't make it into the building but they were able to cut exposed cables possibly connecting air conditioning. >> nothing was stolen. none of the wiring was pulled out and stolen. right now it's being treated as a vandalism. >> reporter: san francisco police and fire as well as emergency services rely on radio transmissions from twin peaks. none were interrupted but the fbi was notified because this communications facility is so crucial. right now officials are using surveillance footage to see if

it provides clues to who did this. new this morning the coast guard suspended the search for signs of a sinking boat in san francisco bay. the coast guard says two distressed calls came in at 11:00 last night about a boat sinking. they searched near the bay bridge and hunters point but found no signs of a sinking boat. the coast guard says it can't even confirm if the calls were real. homicide detectives in sacramento county are questioning a suspect in the death of a woman in her 80s. investigators found her body inside her house in fair oaks last night. witnesses spotted the suspect running from the house naked and covered in blood. officers chased him down and took him into custody. there is still no word of any possible motive.

a court hearing set for five people they are accused of abusing a dozen mentally ill adults in san jose. they removed the adults from an unlicensed care home back on may 31st. investigators say they were living in squabble lid conditions and malnourished and beaten. the five suspects are facing charges of adult abuse and animal negligent. a substitute teacher accused of having sex can teenage girls is due in court in a few hours. he was arrested last week on suspicion of having sex with two girls age 15 and 16. he allegedly met them through a social networking site. daniels with as substitute teacher and assistant football

coach at vintage high school in napa. >> that is one of five schools shut down because of declining enrollmented. >> the board is losing power every day and we are gaining power. >> how? >> through the community sport. the people are sick and tired of what is going on in this district and this nation around public education. >> earlier this month police cleared out the parents that had occupied lake view elementary for 18 days. protesting its closure. >> san carlos school board meets later this morning and will consider whether to place a school bond measure for voters in november. it would raise an estimated $72 million according to the daily journal. the money could help fund renovations ease overcrowding.

homeowners would be discharged $30 for each $100,000 of property assessed. >> time now is 6:07. the department of homeland security says a plan to screen all shipping containers for radio active material before they reach american ports is just not feasible. instead the containers are checked once they arrive in the u.s.. coming up at 5:15 why that method has some members of congress asking questions. let's ask a question to sal now as to how the traffic is. sal. >> it's not bad. we are getting a little bit more crowded though and you will be beginning to see it in some of the pictures. more people stacking up in some of the usual spots. highway 4 not one of them. you will see that traffic is moving well in bay point. it's a little slow in antioch. no major problems getting up to the willow pass grade. also looking at the commute at the toll plaza. you do see more slow traffic here at the toll plaza.

welcome back. time now 6:13. the air force is claiming two recent problems with the oxygen system of the raptor fighter jet not relited to other -- related to other more serious pilot breather problems. they have been investigating why several pilots became dizzy and confused during the flight. but the two recent incidents are being considered regular mechanical issues. the cause of the other breathing problems that is still a mystery. the obama administration has failed to meet a legal deadline to prevent the smuggling of nuclear devices into any u.s. port. alison burns is in our washington, d.c. office newsroom with reaction from congress. alison. >> reporter: under a law passed by congress after the september 11th attacks every container shipped to the united states is supposed to be checked for radio active material before it leaves an overseas port. now the department of homeland

security was given until this month to do it but that is not going to happen. homeland security secretary jan net napolitano is telling lawmakers the effort has become too costly and cumbersome. instead they are relying on negligent supports. according to the washington post that means just half of 1% of the roughly 10 million containers that come bo the u.s. are scanned before they believe overseas ports. we should say most of the containers are checked when they arrive here in the u.s. at ports like the port of oakland. but some members of congress say that could be too late if a terrorist has planted a nuclear device in one of the containers. we are reaching out to local members of congress this morning to get their reaction and hope to have that for you soon. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:15. just hours ago secretary of state hillary clinton arrived in israel. she is now meeting with israeli

proposals would create jobs but in other countries. in an interview this morning mitt romney said president obama's attacks on his business record are quote dishonest and misdirected. today romney is heading to louisiana where he will appear with governor going jindal at a fundraiser. he is one of many names being mentioned. time now 6:16. a partial recount related to proposition 29 is due to start today. the tobacco tax proposition lost by 30,000 votes out of the five million votes that were cast. san francisco surgeon asked california secretary of state for that recount in parts of los angeles county. hoping the results will swing the vote. now electronic recoup that starts today. a manual recount that is set for wednesday. rain choice voting may be on its way out in oakland. city councilman is behind an effort to do away with it. he plans to ask the council to

put a measure on the november ballot that would bring runoffs back. the change would benefit dell phenate because he posed a stronger challenge against mayor quan. breaking news coming in light now from sunnyvale. live pictures you see the police busy. live pictures sunnyvale police searching for one suspect. they haven't told ktvu what the crime is that the suspect committed. you can see there is a solid perimeter out there. they believe he's somewhere near city hall. this is the -- we are in the pastoria avenue and evelyn streets. a lot of police officers you see them on foot and in cars in the areas blocked off. now again police searching for a suspect. you see another big yes a big crime fighting truck has just arrived. a lot is happening and this is all coming in right now. we'll keep an eye on what is happening in sunnyvale and a search for a crime suspect as

more information comes into our newsroom. >> you can see all of the police cars out there you might want to stay away from that area. sal is keeping an eye on other traffic hot spots in the area. >> that is right. we do have a crash now on summersville road. this crash that was in the lanes is off to the side but if you drive from antioch to concord you need extra time this morning. even more than you normally do. you say it's already slow there but it is slow. slower than usual. because of this crash. that just cleared from the shoulder or cleared to the shoulder. let's move along and take a look at the bay bridge that traffic is moderate. 880 traffic here looks pretty good as you drive past the coliseum. no major problems here. and if you are driving in the south bay northbound 280 traffic is moving along pretty well. just getting word of flight delays at fop. more than 90 minutes. in fact looks like let's just say an hour and a half. you should check with your carrier. this is because of low clouds

and fog at the airport. 6:19 let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you. a very good morning. low clouds well inrabid. it looks like a much, much cooler week here. at least until wednesday and thursday. temperatures will start to rebound a little bit. we have a strong low right up there dropping right down. as it does it's enhancing the fog and lifting it up a couple thousand feet. 50s on the temps. but just a howling sea breeze anywhere from the golden gate and sfo out to the delta and sacramento. so the end result very cool pattern this week. last week was a very hot pattern for most. 50s and 60s and 70s even locations that were around 101 to 105 last week. not this week. they will break 75-76 tomorrow. the low will drop in very unseasonally strong for this time of year. that would be around tuesday into wednesday. that will keep us much cooler. that is the screaming message today. 60s and 70s drizzle on the

junior family. time now 6:25. this year san francisco aids walk raised $2.7 million for aid services right here in the bay area. about 25,000 people walked for golden gate park. many were walking for loved ones effected by aids. the ceo of the san francisco aids foundation says the annual fundraiser is especially important this year because of federal budget cuts. >> aids walk san francisco is tremendously important to aids foundation and other organizations we support because it brings people together to reduce the stigma with regard to hiv and aids and raises really important funds to do the work we do. >> now the first san francisco aids walk was 26 years ago. since then this event has raised close to $77 million for aids services here in the bay area. former cal basketball star jason kidd is facing drunk driving charges. police in new york state arrested him early yesterday morning.

in the suit brought on by his children. the judge has admonished reiser about his statements in the courtroom. in 2006 he was found guilty of killing his wifeny that reiser and hiding her body in the oakland hills. the children of hans and nina are asking for $25 million in damages. body found inside a hotel room. it was found at the double tree hotel on flores road yesterday. investigators say the body of that of a man in his 40s but we don't yet know his name. police are calling the death suspicious. a man accused of shooting at a benicia police officer following a car chase is now facing several charges. the ktvu was the only station there as police arrested 22- year-old robert flores folster in vallejo. on saturday they say a police officer pulled him over but he drove off in a stolen car. after a short chase folster

allegedly fired several shots at that patrol car. no one was hit. police made the arrest and the investigation into this case will continue. >> when they tried to move in to arrest him he took off running on foot. jumped some fences and ended up in the area of gentleman jim's bar. >> police say folster is facing charges including a attempted murder and car theft as well. two people have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in san francisco sow ma neighborhood. police say 25-year-old man was gunned down around 11:00 friday night at sixth and market streets. police arrested two suspects saturday in union city. still no word on a motive. a wild fire in placer county that has destroyed one home and four outbuilding has grown to 2400 acres this morning.

firefighters say treacherous terrain is making tiddiest to fight the robbers fire that threatens about 170 homes. 12 firefighters have been injured fighting this fire and it is 30% contained. time now 6:35. this week is san francisco ethics commission will decide if a perjury case against mayor ed lee can move forward. lawyers for suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi accused lee of lying under oath. commission is holding hearings into whether mirkarimi should be permanently removed from office following a domestic violence incident with his wife. in the meantime supporters have donated more than $1,800 to buy mirkarimi's wife a plane ticket so she can testify at the hearing. she is back in her native country of venezuela. she will testify in support of her husband on wednesday and

immediately fly back to venezuela. it came from an online fundraiser and spanish radio station. you might smell gas in the air as pg&e tests some of the pipelines in redwood city tomorrow. the utility says it will perform hydro tests along the interstate 280 corridor. the testing will evaluate a pipeline section between wilmington way and san hill road. pg&e has been testing the pipelines following the deadly pipeline explosion in 2010. time now 6:37. later today the napa alternative mothers group will protest the treatment of a breast feeding mother at a social security office by staging a nurse in. they say a security guard told a mother she could not breast feed at a federal facility and asked her to step outside. the advocates are saying state law allows breast-feeding in public. the nurse in protest is due to start at 10:00 a.m. at the social security administration office. apple is not commenting on

jahzeel. the chp says he was driving his red pickup truck near petaluma when a white pickup truck crashed into him. the chp says 41-year-old michael harmon was behind the wheel and left the scene. harmon is facing charges of vehicle manslaughter and felony hit and run. time now 6:55. a santa rosa woman has been arrested for a fatal crash that police say appears to have been a case of domestic violence. witnesses believe 28-year-old heather ann howell was trying to hit a motorcycle rider she was allegedly chasing saturday afternoon on hall road. when the motorcyclist veered out of the way police say howell hit a lexus in front of her and a triumph spit fire. the man in the triumph died at the scene. and the japanese earthquake and tsunami was youtube's biggest story of 2011.
