live from the courthouse to explain why they are on strike. >> reporter: they are loud, they are angry and they are demanding not answers but the right to information that would allow them to negotiate a fair contract. >> shut it down. shut it down. >> reporter: at 8:30 a.m. 200 walked off the job here. it is all in an effort to paralyze the superior court system. these workers want a contract that keeps courtrooms open and workers paid. >> the last five years we have given concessions. we haven't had a cost of living raise. the economy keeps going up, we stay in the same place. for five years we have given up

furloughs. we have done our part. >> the administrative office wasted $660 million over the last years trying to create something called the california courts management system. >> they asked the court to provide information so they can make a counterproposal but they say they have been shut out. they have been at an impasse sense march 7 after they rejected an agreement. the court says this strike has not shut down the courts but has created disruption for hundreds of san franciscans who took the day off to deal with a ticket or something else. at 5:00, what effect this has had at the end of the day.

tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. police arrested two burglary suspects. officers received a call about 4:00 a.m. of a break in at a house. they searched the neighborhood and found two men they suspected of being the burglars. >> they entered the same house together. and accosted the occupy of the house and took the property. nobody got hurt, thankfully. the victim cooperated with the demands. >> one of the men was hiding in a backyard and a police dog found him. he was taken away in an balance. a teacher in napa pleaded not guilty connected to allegations he had sex with two

underaged girls. brock daniels remains in custody, he is also a football coach at vintage high school. police tell us the results of an autopsy may be available today in the death of a man whose body was found at the doubletree hotel. police say there is no obvious sign of how the man died. investigators say he was in his 40s. happening now, a day long protest against muni. we covered it this morning when service was interrupted during the morning commute. ktvu's david stevenson lets us know what is happening. >> reporter: muni traffic along church street this morning is

running smoothly right now. that wasn't the case earlier today. take a look. it began at 7:00 a.m. 100 protesters turned out and blocked the j and n trains here, that forced riders to leave the trains and board buses. the action backed up the lines for an hour. this protest comes on the one year anniversary of the death of kenneth harding, he died after a shoot out with police conducting inspections. this is video of the shooting a year ago. kenneth harding died of a bullet wound from his own gun, protesters describe this a case of police brutality. >> our liberties, our rights are stripped away from us. you have to focus on a positive fight and this is one of them. >> there was protesters who

attempted to go into the tunnel at church and so the j line and the n line were delayed and that has an impact on the rest of the subway. the system was impacted for 50 minutes. >> reporter: there were no arrests or injuries. protesters fallowed orders to disperse at intersections. it sended with a rally. another protest is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. tonight. the intersection where kenneth harding died last year. protesters indicated they may block the six bus lines that go through that intersection. officials will reroute buses to make sure the evening commute flows smoothly. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. officials are trying to determine what sparked a morning fire that destroyed a home. the fire broke out in the three hundred block of sea wind drive

at 4:00 a.m. investigators say the two occupies of the -- occupants of the home escaped thanks to their dog whose woke them up. despite winds firefighters kept the fire from spreading. no one was injured. a wildfire that destroyed one home and four outbuildings grown to 2500 acres. treacherous terrain is making it difficult to fight the robbers fire that threatens 170 homes. 12 firefighters have been injured and the fire is 30% contained. fog caused delays at san francisco international airport but the latest check shows the delays down to 15 minutes or less. there were no reports at delays at oakland or san jose. the fbi joined the

investigation into a vandal attack. yesterday morning vandals cut a hole in a fence and broke in the city's communication facility. police say they did not go inside the building but did cut some exposed cables they were connected to the air conditioning system. services were not interrupted. every container shipped to the united states is supposed to be scanned for radioactive material before it leaves the port. homeland security was given till this month to do that task but it will not happen. homeland security secretary janet napolitano is saying it is too costly. and she is exercise an option to delay it by two years. some say with 11 million containers coming into the u.s. each year it is impossible to

screen them all. >> the technology doesn't exist to do this yet and would slow down cargo shipments. >> the department is relying on reports to check high risk containers. but the post reports that means only 1/2 of 1% of the containers will be scanned before they leave over seas ports. rank choice voting may be on its way out in oakland. he plans to ask the counsel to put a measure on the november ballot that would bring run off back, it would benefit him, he poses a stronger challenge against mayor jean quan. a partial recount related to proper 29 begins today. it lost by 30,000 votes out of

a new version of microsoft office. office 15 will include touch capability. joe paterno's family denouncing the findings of a report into penn state's hand ling of the jerry sandusky scandal. the report concluded joe paterno and other officials failed to protect the children victimized by jerry sandusky and engaged in a cover up. joe paterno's family said he did not intentionally protect a pedophile and vowed to launch their own probe into the scandal. the head of the olympic committee has been abducted. his brother says gunman stopped his car yesterday and grabbed him near the olympic committee

his next book is scheduled for release in october. he died last week in florida from natural causes. he was 87. authorities in australia are searching for a great white shark that killed a surfer over the weekend. it happened on saturday. the 24-year-old surfer was with a friend in the water with a mass -- water when a white shark went on the attack. if they find the shark they plan to kill it to prevent any other attacks. lightning strikes killed and injured people over the weekend. three soccer players were struck by lightning in texas yesterday, two died. in canada lightning struck a tent at a rib fest. 17 people were taken to

stocks are lowing today. taking a live look at the big board. this morning citigroup posted 2nd quarter profits of $2.9 billion. on the heels of a good quarter for chase and wells fargo. it could mean more americans are paying off their debt and slowing their spending. federal regulators approved

the first pill to prevent hiv. it the food and drug administration says taking one dose a day could be used for preventing the risk. it has been on the market since 2004. the aids walk raised $2.7 million for aids services in the bay area. the ceo of the aids foundation says it is a important this year because of federal funding cuts to aids organizations. 20,000 people walked through golden gate park yesterday to raise the money. it raised close to $7 million for aids services in the bay area since its first event 26 years ago. french political party is threatening to sue madonna over
