suspects and the details are intriguing and drawn attention to another robbery. >> reporter: officers swarmed on to the streets catching two home invasion suspects by surprise. officers got a call at 4:00 a.m. >> the fact they went into the house? they could have hurt him. >> reporter: the two men told the homeowner they were armed. the suspects fled when officers arrived. one was found hiding in a backyard. >> did the dog bite him? >> he did apprehend him with a bite to the leg. superficial. >> reporter: this afternoon investigators revealed the victim set up a meeting with a woman through the internet and the woman brought the suspects with her. they are looking into a home invasion at this complex after

midnight this past sunday. >> the location, the relationship the victim had with the suspects, does shows similarities with the sunnyvale case. >> reporter: neighbors gave credit to police and themselves. >> they protect us. but it takes people that need to report suspicious activity and that is what happened here. >> reporter: at this hour investigators are searching for the woman who witnesses say sped away before officers arrived. live, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. protesters stopped muni service today as they marked one year since kenneth harding shot himself during a confrontation with police. ktvu's david stevenson is live in san francisco where a memorial is going on right now at the scene of the shooting. david. >> reporter: 4 dozen people turned out for the rally. a day commemorating the death

of kenneth harding. it is held here, the intersection where he died a year ago today after a shoot out with police. that made muni the target of the shut down this morning. protesters earlier indicated another stoppage might be in the works, muni has seen no problems but have shuttle buses standing by. this is video of the shooting one year ago today. kenneth harding was on parole for trying to prostitute a 14- year-old and a person of interest in a double homicide. police say kenneth harding died of a bullet wound from his own gun. kenneth harding's mother is now suing. >> what it is my son was the worst case of racial profiling

and it had to do with the shut down today as well. >> strong feelings. u.n., the reality was, the shot that killed him came from his weapon. >> reporter: this is video from 20 minutes ago from a woman attempting to block the t line in protest of kenneth harding's death. police escorted her away. this continues to be a peaceful protest. we will bring you an update at 7:00 on tv 36. reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> more details. kenneth harding had a police record. he was a parolee at the time of the muni shooting. he was convicted of raping a 13- year-old girl while under home detention for armed robbery and he tried to force that same girl into prostitution at the age of 14 and a person of

interest in a double murder case. we have learned a second suspect in the killing of a san francisco man and his two sons will not fight extradition from north carolina. he faces murder charges when he returns. he was in the car with a man when the three men were killed. a third son who survived the shooting testified that it was romos who pulled the trigger. police chase ended with two robbery suspects crashing a suv. police spotted the two men around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. officers pursued pursued the pair, and the driver rolled the vehicle. one suspect was hurt and the other was arrested outside a nearby tile store. also in oakland a man

driving a car was shot and wounded. witnesses say the victim waved down a bystander who flagged down a fire truck. the man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. no word on a motive. >> police are asking for the public's help in finding two burglary suspects. they are trying to identify these two men. surveillance video captured these images. investigators say they are associated with several burglaries. anyone with information is asked to call police. after several months, state treasurer bill lockyer filed for divorce from his wife nadia lockyer. it comes three months after nadia lockyer resigned from the boat of supervisors. -- board of supervisors.

he wants to revolve the matter privily. in san jose officials began posting eviction notices at a homeless encampment after suspicious fires. there have been 7 fires in the past two weeks. one neighbor says he is relieved by the eviction notice. >> i think it is a great thing  for the neighborhood. because the people over there, if you try to take a walk, they yell at you. >> the city plans to clear out the camp thursday morning. the fda approved the first medication today shown to reduce the risk of hiv and it was made in the bay area. ktvu's rob roth is live now in san francisco with the home tonight for nose at risk of -- for those at risk of contracting the aids virus.

>> reporter: health clinics treat patients with hiv and aids. doctors and officials call the fda's approval of truvada a milestone in the fight to prevent hiv infection. >> reporter: many of his patients are hiv positive, including this one. he has been prescribing the drug truvada prescribed by gilead sciences -- made by gilead sciences. >> i am preventing hiv by putting them on truvada. >> reporter: the fda approved truvada for use by healthy hiv negative people who engage in risky sexual behavior or who are partners that are hiv infected. >> today a new era in hive prevention. >> reporter: with 50,000 people in the u.s. becoming infected,

they are hoping truvada will help stop the spread of the disease. >> it will take us a number of years to get to the vaccine that protects at high rates. this is just one of them but it is the first pill that can prevent you from becoming hiv infected. >> we wouldn't want anyone to abandon their condom use. >> reporter: officials hope with the fda's tamp of approval, insurance companies will cover the drug and that truvada will become more accessible in low income areas. rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. a researcher is taking a different approach to finding a cure for hiv and aids. he is head of a stanford lab targeting heading reservoirs of

the virus. he found new compounds that have been shown to activate hiv reservoirs and give doctors a way to flush out the virus. a bay area drug maker said it is laying off hundreds of workers. they will close its mountain view and santa clara offices and cut 300 jobs. the company says 100 jobs will be located to other facilities. they are best known for its flew mist inflewentiona vaccine. walmart started hiring for its new store. they will take over a vacant building. the store is set to open this fall. california has the worst cret rating -- credit rating in the country. california is the only state

with a a minus rating. they blamed over spending, late budgets and sky rocketing pensions. a bad credit rating effects the interest states pay on their bond. dismal earnings, news that will add more fuel to the public pension debate. they reported 1% in annual investment returns for the year that ended june 30. that is below the projected 7.5%. it will add pressure to government employees to contribute more to their pension funds. nursing mothers brought their babies to the social security office today to send home a message. they attended the nurse in, it was prompted by a incident last week when a security guard told the woman to leave the building

we got the power. >> 250 san francisco court workers walked off the jobs today crippling court business. the court workers include clerks and other support staff. they are protesting a 5% pay cut. the workers say they will decide tonight whether to continue to strike tomorrow. jurors began deliberating today in the lawsuit against hans reiser. acting as his own attorney he said that he would like to have a chance to teach his children important lessons about life. a judge told him his son and daughter had that but he took it away by killing their mother. the prosecutor is seeking $10 million in damages for each child. you will find coverage of the hans reiser case on our website, www.ktvu.com. including our interview with

the weekend. helicopters spotted the crash site south of salt lake city. his wife had a design company. the couple had three grown children and four grandchildren. it is a google search that gave yahoo a new ceo. they named google executive marissa mayer as the new yahoo boss. marissa mayer needs to be prepared for a tough road as the company struggles. microsofts rolled out its new software in san francisco. it is the company's most ambitious release to date. the ability for the user to buy the software or rent and share it as needed through cloud and lets users communicate through

skype. problem that is becoming more dangerous for drivers. ktvu's cara liu is live in redwood city with the plan to track deer. >> reporter: researchers say there are thousands of crashes involving deer on california roadways every year and this stretch is one of the worse. now they are studying where, when and how deer cross the freeway in hopes of reducing crashes. >> scary. >> reporter: he knows what it is like to crash into a deer on the highway. >> one jumped in front of us. i ducked. did a 180, spun out. luckily we were okay but the deer didn't make it. >> reporter: especially at freeway speeds, crashes can be dangerous. 280 has had more than its share

is now at 30%. the fire grew 100 acres over night to 2500 acres. it burned one home, three outbuildings and forced hundreds of people to evacuate and the cost of fighting the fire, $5 million. it cooled off again today. 5-10 degrees. it is windy out there too. picking out winds near pittsburg. 29 miles per hour. they are sustained west, southwest at 23 miles per hour. it is breezy and windy out there. these are the highs today, below the average. not talking about spare the air days. these temperatures are below the average. we will stay cool the next 48 hours. cool and breezy tomorrow. tomorrow, a lot like today.
