employee. >> reporter: police say the suspect left the store. as the victim fallowed behind. 10 minutes later the suspect ended up at washington and davidson street. >> he said something to the suspect. he kept walking. she said something and he rushed her. the suspect charnelled the officer with a -- charged the officer with a box cutter. >> he immediately fell to the ground. fell down on his side. >> the officer acted within our policy to defend their own life. >> reporter: some wonder if the man understood what the officers were saying. >> there is no question. he doesn't speak english. >> reporter: officers handcuffed the suspect but once they saw he was shot they uncuffed him and treated him

and later he died. the officer is now on administrative leave. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. a new report is found that oakland police are still having trouble with crucial radio communications even after the new $18 million system. they installed the radio last year after years of complaints of service problems. a report finds this system could have poor reception, especially indoors. >> this is a big concern for us when it comes to officer safety. we can't afford to have equipment that is not reliable in the time of need. >> the city is working with a consultant on whether to repair or transition to a regional radio system. there are other victims involved in a case where caretakers abuse disables patients. ktvu's robert handa is live

with what is happening to 40 dogs that were removed from that facility. >> reporter: i am with jamie and she is holding one of the dogs being cared for while the investigation continues into the human victims in the case, work continues here to make sure the other victims survive and thrive. >> reporter: this very cute dog is going to a new home. san jose police say he was one of 46 dogs rescued from a home where 5 care givers were arrested for abusing disabled men and women. >> really disappointing. but looking at the bright side i am happy i can -- my family can show this dog true love and a good home. >> reporter: the humane society and animal services are treating the dogs.

the dogs have not been spade or neutered but in good health. >> they may have been the only gonzales given the seniors love. but nails being trimmed, flee control, those things were probably over looked. >> reporter: they are foster guardians. they are concerned about the emotional damage suffered by the mother of the puppies. >> i am seeing indications she was probably in a crate. >> reporter: they hope people step up. >> this is a really, really meaningful and significant issue that people take whatever steps they can to offer help. >> reporter: some of the dogs will be available here starting tomorrow. san jose police are still investigating the case and they told me they believe there are still more human victims out there. robert handa, ktvu channel 2

news. gilroy police have completed their investigation into an accidental shooting that killed a three-year-old son of a san jose police officer. investigators would focus on how the gun was stored and how it went off. police won't reveal the findings but the report recommends whether charges should be filed. the district attorney will review the report. police arrested a man for a crash that injured a mother and her one-year-old daughter. it happened this morning. investigators say he was speeding around the corner and his car jumped the curb and hit the woman and the child. investigators say he was involved in a road anal incident earlier and -- road age incident -- road rage
