>> so, this has been a long day and i appreciate how long a day it's been for all of you in the media. we are -- seeing the -- this community rise up and do the things that great communities do. we are dealing with this, 70 -- not 71, the double reporting there but the -- the storey that will come out of this, how in a remarkablely short amount of time -- the police responded to this situation. them being efficient. the -- ability of our hospitals, in remarkablely short order to take care of all of the deaths in -- incredible system -- not -- not saying it
6:06 pm
was all perfect. as this story is told it'll be remarkable. we still -- had 30 patients in the hospital as of 3:30. 11 still in critical condition. you know this is -- it's an act that defies description. you can't connect emotions we normally think of, everybody i have talked to today is filled with a -- an anger that can't find focus. i think that -- the challenge for all of us, all of us as a community is to recognize which have to move past that -- a level of responsibility that is individual as -- clearly disturbed. i'm not -- we will or will not know exactly the roots of that, how deep that disturbance is.
6:07 pm
where it came from, we are -- clear that we are going to -- rise back and lift ourselves above this. i visited several of the families in the hospital and we will have -- some -- when you have that it many people that have been injured you will have people with lifetime disabilities. as a community beginning to come together. giving first.org with in three hours we had $125,000. they raised money. this is through one of the hospital networks, all the hospitals will participate. >> listening live to the government of colorado. first of all praising the emergency response after the mass shooting in the movie theater. he said that 30 people are still in the hospital. 11 are in critical. he called it an act that defies description. we will break away from this. we will hear from the police chief. when that happens we will bring

6:10 pm
health issues. >> reporter: but the anti gun tide has shifted. in 1990 more than three out of for wanted stronger gun laws. five-years later that was down to 62%. five-years ago it was an even split and last year down to 44%. so, tough to get new laws passed. reporting like. ktv i can channel 2news. >> with we are still learning about the suspected shooter, james holmes. we know he bought a ticket to the midnight premire of batman and had red hair and said he was the joker. he left the theater at some point and then opened fire when he returned. he was dressed in black with full body armor and a gas mask. >> noelle walker is here with what we found about the ties in northern california. >> anyone we talked to who knew the boy they called jimmy is shocked and stunned to find he is the suspected shooter. >> reporter: the shooting

6:18 pm
picture released and i said no. i won't be releasing his picture for investigative reasons. he will be arraigned, have first court appearance 8:30 a.m. on monday in district court. . >> there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support for our families, four our victims and community and cops, firefighters, ems people, for investigators by this entire community. we have received letters of concern, sympathies, just remarkable. our community restaurants started giving pizza and food into the station houses here, just to show support for the police department and it's absolutely wonderful. >> i have an announcement on behalf of the city. sunday at 6:30 p.m. a prayer vigil right here in front of the m center. the governor and mayor will speak and there will be an
6:19 pm
appropriate moment for reflection for the community. i want to offer a huge thank you to our coroner, michael for all he has done to help us with the crime scene to speed up the recovery and identification of the bodies. in terms of the next press briefing we expect to brief you tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. i will take questions. >> any kind of motive at this point? has he said anything about why he has done this? >> if we had information we wouldn't share it. we would let that play out in the course of the criminal prosecution? >> is he talking to you? >> i won't talk about that. >> . >> we have been listening to the police chief and learned very interesting new information about what happened before we joined him the chief said that the suspects bought
6:20 pm
thousands of rounds of ammunition over the internet. he said that he could have slot more -- more than 100 rounds alive from the rifle he had and he learned they have evacuated five units of the apartment complex where the alleged gunman lived. the chief said he had never seen anything like it, that apartment is booby trapped. the chief said there are jars full of anno and they will hold off before they go in there until tomorrow because they are just exhausted from the long day. >> back at the scene, the police chief described a horrible task underway. they are still working to identity and make a list of the ten people who were killed inside the movie theater. he described the meeting with 70 members, friends and family of those believed to be inskied said police told those concerned family members and loved ones we are still working on getting a list together. that happened two hours ago.
