it was high. it was real bad. >> reporter: so bad the firefighters evacuated several homes near the truck. the truck sits in the driveway of the home. one man inside said because of the proximity of the truck he thought it was going to spread to the house. he said the fire was fast moving and grew within seconds. he grabbed the dog and alerted another roommate and told him they had to get out quickly. wednesday night someone vandalized the truck. >> someone stole the truck tires off the truck and it was on cinderblocks and now it was on fire. i don't know if they were trying to burn the evidence. i have no idea. >> reporter: no one was injured during this fire. it's being looked at as a suspicious fire. live in san leandro i'm paul chambers. firefighters in san francisco responded to the pre

video overnight. someone living near inspiration point reported seeing fire around 2:30 this morning. when firefighters arrived they saw bushes and a few trees on fire. they put it out in 15 minutes and no one was hurt. a firefighter was taken to the hospital for possible exhaustion. the cause is still under investigation. investigators believe the fire may have been started by a homeless opinion. one man is under arrest this morning after a five hour standoff in santa rosa. last night swat officers surrounded a home on bucks road near highway 101. the suspect was reportedly armed and holding hostages. throughout the evening several people walked out of the house. shortly after 11:00 last night deputies stormed the home and took the man in custody. overnight we have new information about a dangerous fugitive suspected of killing two young parents in sajose.

31-year-old pedro may be heading to mexico in a black 2006 nissan maxima. similar to the one shown in the picture. car license plate number 6tiw691. he is accused of fatally shooting maribell and pedro hawaii meanies in their home. families and friends led a vigil for the couple last night. time now is 4:32. newark police are looking for four men accused of a robbery and shooting inside a newark park mall jewelry store. two employees and two customers were inside the jewelry add 12:15 yesterday afternoon when police say the men stormed in with crowbars and semi automatic guns. she says one of the men fired a

shot to open a display case. one shopper we spoke to says the incident has made her more cautious. >> i will probably think twice. i will probably look around. ly be a little built more aware of my surrounding now. especially if i have my grand kids or daughter or somebody with me. >> police say a mall security guard was able to follow the four men for a short time after they jumped into two get away cars. one car is described as a 2008 white mercedes e class. the other a black lexus or accra sedan. major pot bust near patterson has a connection to san jose. paper work found at the scene indicates that the marijuana was being grown for the san jose based marijuana dispensary. an investigation is now under way.

two more top california parks department employees have left their jobs this morning. many people that donated to save our state parks are saying they want a refund. something from a financial scandal involving $54 million is allegedly being hidden in two state parks. as parks were facing closure because of a lack of money. lawmakers are asked being promised if the money will toward our parks. the opening ceremony for the london olympics is hours away. coming up the famous british singer that will perform at the ceremony and the one big secret that has not leaked out. it's 4:35. cal trans conducted the first testover a unique feature on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. take a look. this is how it looked during the evening commute with there it goes it will up the new led light system. the lights shooting through the dark from poles as high as 65

lots of low clouds. they are making a strong push inland. very similar today what we had earlier. >> one person was killed at least five others hurt as powerful thunderstorms rolled through the ohio valley in southern new england. this is a look at some of the situation and damage in danbury connecticut. a 66-year-old woman in pennsylvania was hit and killed by a falling tree. at least one tornado also touched down in ellemay a, new york causes significant damage. new york's governor has declared a state of emergency. >> take a look at that. the storm caused a transformer

through there it might not be a good time to do that because of activity there. let's take a look at 80 westbound. that looks pretty good heading up to the mccarthur maze. not a big delay anywhere near this stretch. that includes the bay bridge toll plaza and beyond. you can see the toll plaza looks good getting into the city. and we're looking at the south bay starting off well this morning. it is starting off looking very good. coming up through downtown and continuing up to highway 17. at 4:44 let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. good morning. the higher clouds from yesterday moved out of the picture but still they were up there. unless you never saw the sun until late in the day because some of that fog has really been thick. it's up there. it's up there 2500 feet and it's already moving well inland. a cooler pattern established itself. cooler by the coast. cool to mild. west, southwest 23 gusting to 29 travis. southwest 12 at vacaville.

vacaville gets a sea breeze. west, northwest almost across the board a south wind. that is a cool direction. 53-61 but again that is at mofette closer to the bay. higher clouds are gone associated with one system. that keeps that energize. fog, sun, breezy. kind of chilly. a little bit of a misty morning. cool, to mild, to warm. petaluma 71. novato 72. napa beautiful 73. 83 pittsburg with west wind walnut creek 76. 79 beautiful degrees in pleasanton. if you are out by reidville airport it's running five degrees warmer. 60s on the coast. 60s in the city. upper 60s and low 70s for some. mid 70s on the peninsula.

looks like a little bit warmer saturday inland and more so on sunday. that fog will burn off with your weekend always in view. pamela. >> thank you. there is a glimmer of hope in the disappearance of 19-year- old uc davis student. el dorado county investigators believe she is still alive. she was last seen leaving a counseling center in sacramento where she was getting treatment following a stress related break down. she is considered at risk because she does need medication. investigators are focusing on the missing woman's facebook account, cell phone records and bank account. a bicyclist accused of hitting a pedestrian is due back in court to set a date for a preliminary hearing. investigators say chris ran a red light and hit 71-year-old sue chee wi in a crosswalk. they have charged him with felony vehicle manslaughter.

police in campbell are urging witnesses to step forward following a fatal accident involving a bicyclist there. the 56-year-old man was riding down campbell avenue yesterday evening when he was hit by a car. the 28-year-old driver stopped and now cooperating with police. alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. two babies were rescued from a stolen car in oakland after the driver led police on a short chase. it started at about 11:30 yesterday morning when officers were pursuing a car reported stolen from berkeley. the stolen car crashed into another car on east 16th street and 55th avenue. two young children were inside the car. >> you saw two little babies and young lady. and then the guy just went running all the way over there and that guy crashed into another car. >> the children and the woman were not hurt. one man in the stolen car was arrested at the scene. another ran away but was later

caught. time now 4:48. bail is set at $50,000 for a santa cruz man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl. he met the teenager at a shopping mall. he offered her a ride home and that is when he had sex with her. one of the victims in the jerry sandusky case plans to file a civil suit against penn state. the man's name has not been released but he claims to be the victim that was sexually assaulted by sandusky in the shower of a locker room ten years ago. the victim claims the university failed to protect him from sexual assault. jurors convicted sandusky last month on 45 sex abuse counts. he's currently awaiting sentencing. two families that lost a total of five loved ones in the san bruno pipeline explosion

can find closure. they finally settled their lawsuits with pg&e. terms of the deal are confidential in both the greeg and bullet family lawsuits. pg&e says they expect to spend more than $200 million to settle the cases. hundreds of protestors took over parts of union scare as they call for a boycott of all hyatt hotels. demonstrators chanted bang drums and marched outside of san francisco's grand hyatt hotel. part of a week long global boycott of the chain. they have been in contract talks for almost three years. the hotel says it respects its employees and right to choose whether they want to join a union or not. facebook is learning a new lesson on wall street.

the social network's first earning report method analyst expectations but it wasn't good enough for investors. facebook stock lost about 10% in after hours trading. analysts are also questioning if facebook's new emphasis on mobile users will help it make money. >> yeah i don't even go on my computer anymore. i just use my phone. >> you can check in places and all that. up load pictures. it's pretty cool. >> during the earnings conference call, facebook announced a number of users is growing. it now has 955 million total with 543 million of them using mobile devices to hook up on facebook. 4:51 is the time right now. questions about the medical response during the colorado theater shooting. the big stall to help the victims. >> also some relief for drivers

response times of ambulances are being called into questioned after last fridays shooting in colorado. 12 people were killed.

5 others injured -- 58 others injured. they were not called to the scene for more than 20 minutes. in some cases they were not called at all. aurora's fire chief say they are disappointed they are second guessing the exceptional work. a police radio break down during president obama's visit to the bay area may be the last straw for oakland. they are consider joining a new communications network slated to begin in september. oakland spent $18 million on the radio system last year officers say it fails 500 times a month. the transmission tower went offline monday preventing officers communicating from each other. san francisco transportation agencies is considering a plan to attach cameras to street sweepers to help catch drivers that are parked illegally. two are already outfitted to

determine whether it's possible to get clear images of license plates. in september officials will decide whether to expand the program to all street sweepers and begin issuing citations. in a few weeks an app will be able that will allow drivers to pay to park at a meter with their smart phones. the city plans to test the program on locust street for the first few months. all downtown meters will likely work with the app in six month. 4:54 is the time. we have a water main break in san francisco and sal has more information about that. >> we do. what happened was a car hit a hydrant overnight on castro street at henry which is near the davis medical center there. just up the hill from castro and market about three blocks from there. the water is gushing down from market street. police have intersections blocked and this happened at 2:00.
