31-year-old pedro medina, the former boyfriend, he may be driving a black nissan maxima, with license plate 6-t-i w-691. new at noon a san francisco judge this morning scheduled september 14th for a hearing in the case of a bicyclist facing felony charges in the death of a pedestrian. christopher vacarey is charged with vehicular manslaughter, prosecutors say he ran down a 71-year-old man in march. the assistant district attorney refused to go along with his request to be absent for his next hearing. >> this is a form of homicide, an innocent man crossing the street is no longer with us, the inconvenience it may serve him iser relevant is irrelevant to me. he should be there. >> he has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail.

pockets to keep them open. but now that the state park surplus has been uncovered what should happen to those. janine de la vega joins us live. >> reporter >>: i just got off the phone with a spokesperson who told me he understands people are shocked and concerned that millions of dollars were found in hidden accounts. today presearvationists tell me they spent money and are prepared to take it back. the state revealed last week that 54 million dollars had been found hidden. state officials have been warning they would have to close parks because of budget concerns but 20 million dollars of the funds are entry and concession fees. today in a news conference the group demanded the state return that money to operating state parks. >> this is obviously money that was provided by the california citizenry for the state parks.

it makes no sense that this money should not go back to the california parks, particularly in these tough times. >> the group donated more than a quarter of a million dollars to keep henry coe park open for the next three years, members say if they do not return the 20 million dollars they will dissolve their agreement and take back their money. the agency overseeing everything says it is concerned and it is an issue they will take up in august. >> we want to work closely with them so we can try and restore their trust in the department. that is going to take a lot of work and we know we will need to be collaborative with them to do that. >> the department of finance and the attorney general are in the process of investigating how and why the money was diverted into those hidden funds. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> contra costa county says they are still looking for ways

take a look at this. at least 50,000 gallons of water gushed 50 feet in the air for three hours after a car crashed into that fire hydrant there. it happened at 2:00 a.m. and they had a tough time turning that valve off. theyed a to park their truck over it so they could shut it all off. police say the driver appeared

to be drunk and was taken into custody. there was another police shooting in anaheim this morning. officers responded to a burglar alarm there and saw appliances on the street and a man leaving the building. one officer chased the burglar while another checked out a car. the vehicle came at him and he opened fire. the driver of the car escaped but the burglary suspect was captured. they are not sure if he hurt and a search of local hospitals turned up nothing. >> they abuse people they claimed to protect. >> there are protests against the waves of police shootings. a few dozen people marched through those areas. solidarity protests are held nationwide for the 5 people killed by anaheim police this year. demonstrations are planned there. authorities in an

unincorporated area are investigating a fire they are calling suspicious. they say someone may have set a truck on fire there. paul chambers has the latest. >> reporter: the interior burned beyond recognition, leaving on the charred shell. investigators say just before midnight they received a call of it being on fire. neighbors say a police officer was the first on scene. >> he pulled up and got a fire extinguisher but he could not get close to the car there was too much smoke. >> i saw flames, called 911 and they told me get out. >> this truck belongs to his roommate. he was in the kitchen when he noticed the fire. once on scene firefighters evacuated homes. the fire destroyed a tree, shrubs and a lamp outside the home. with the fire feet away paul told his roommate to get out and grabbed his dogs and left. >> i grabbed momente monte and we got out of there. >> these blocks are part of the

reason they are ruling it suspicious. because wednesday night vandals struck. >> the night before someone stole the tires, that is why it is the way it is. >> they didn't return our calls but the fire is ruled suspicious but no word on what caused it. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. >> there is a glimmer of hope in the disappearance of a 19- year-old uc davis student. investigators won't say why but at a press conference yerd yesterday they told reporters they believe she is still alive. she was last seen leaving a counseling center where she was getting treatment following a break down. she is considered at risk because she needs medication. investigators are focusing on her facebook account, cell phone and bank accounts. it was made official this morning, a popular japanese retailer opening up shop in san francisco. mayor ed lee announced they are set to open their first store on the west coast right in union square.

they are working with the city's office of economic and work force development to bring on 500 local employees. the store also made a 25,000 dollar donation to the bay area chapter of the red cross. >> they are also today announcing not only an investment in our people for jobs and training and also exhibiting their philanthropic values as a corporation. >> the store will be there. drivers in walnut creek may soon be able to feed the parking meter without getting out of their car. in a few weeks app an app will be available that will allow them to pay for meters with their smart phone, they plan to test it on locust street and all will work within a few months. they are testing a system to light up the span of the bay

really all week. starbuck's also down after reporting disappointing earnings but people still feeling good about what is happen what is happening in europe, that is keeping them positive, all three will log gains for the week. facebook stock hit a new low 1 day after reporting quarterly earnings, it has fallen more than 11% this morning and currently sits at 23.81. when facebook made its initial offering may it was priced at 38 dollars. the social networking company reported slightly better than expected second quarter revenues yesterday but investors apparently not impressed. if is any constellation new data indicates the great recession was for the as terrible as thought. they released a report and shows the economy shrank 4.7% from the state of the recession until it ended in june of 2009. that is 0.4% less than the previous estimate so not much of a change but the downturn
