fire district. >> good morning this saturday, july 28th. we are going to check in with rosemary for a quick look at the saturday forecast. >> warmer weather is headed to the bay area starting today, 3 to 9 degrees above what we felt yesterday. few degrees warmer in the city and we'll see 5 degrees warmer in areas around concard. we'll talk about what's happening in character area this hour, more coming up. an argument on a party bus may have led to a woman's death overnight. it happened around midnight on southbound highway 17 and we have a live report from san

jose valley medical center. >> reporter: one of the passengers on the party bus was brought here to get treatment for moderate injuries she sustained when she somehow fell out of that bus. a second passenger also ended up outside the bus and that passenger was killed. this happened just after midnight only highway 17 north of state route 9. the bus is towed away as evidence in what is now a criminal investigation. 12 to 15 people were on the bus, all adults. several people on board were drinking. some sort of altercation or fight broke out and two females were ejected. how this happened is still being investigated. one died after falling out of the bus and a second person suffered moderate injuries. >> when there's a fatality in this type of situation, it is considered a homicide until we

find out whether it was an accident or contributing factors to the event. >> reporter: investigators have already talked to the bus driver. he was sober and does not appear to be at fault. lawmakers are in the prose of passing more regulations for party buses. some require them to verify all the ages of those on board to be sure minors are not drinking. in this case it appears the 12 to 15 passengers were all adults. shots rang out in oakland around midnight in the area of 90th avenue and olive street near an apartment building and a liquor store. officers found numerous shell casings on the ground and it's believed the two male victims are related.

>> was there a robbery or confrontation? >> we haven't made any headway as far as motive yet. police say some reported hearing several gunshots near east 18th street and 35th avenue. a witness says it hand after a long argument between a group of people. one victim was hit in the stomach and went to a liquor store for help. police say this man will not surround peacefully. 31-year-old pedro medina is accused of shooting to death a couple inside that i shall apartment and also inside the apartment t three children, who were not injured in that shooting. authorities believe he's on the run and likely headed to mexico. officers say he's made statements indicating he'll shoot it out with police before allowing himself to get caught.

meanwhile, investigators have found his nissan maxima at an undisclosed location in santa fe. a new tax proposal could be put before voters, a $75 a year parcel tax. without it, firefighters could be laid off and a third of the stations could be shut down. >> only 3.3% of their calls are for fires. this is no longer a fire agency. it's the most expensive way of delivering emergency health care there is on the planet. >> firefighters say the district's revenue from property taxes is down $32 million. this would generate more than $16 million a yore. it would cost most home and condo owners $75 a year and apartment owners would pay

shell was found before 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning on channel street just off at&t park. a worker found it underground and about a dozen people were evacuated. the bomb squad was called out and determined the device didn't pose a threat. officials say it was probably from the world war ii era but it's unclear how it ended up there. a maryland man is in jail this morning accused of planning a killing rampage like the one in colorado. 28-year-old neil prescott threatened to shoot up his workplace, pitny bowes. he was arrested at his apartment and police say he called himself the joker and wore a t-shirt that said, guns don't kill people, i do. the car alarm went off and aheard somebody say get on the

ground. >> police seized 25 weapons an several thousand rounds of am nation. charges are pending as he is undergoing a mental health evaluation. new this morning the president is blaming the gop for gridlock that could increase the taxings of americans next year. >> instead of doing what's right for middle class families, republicans in congress are holding these tax cuts hostage include we extend tax cuts for the wealthiest americans. >> he accuses republicans of stalling to extend the bush era tax cuts for households making $250,000 or less. the job less rate is expected to average 8% this year. mitt romney attended the opening ceremonies in london last night and is headed to israel today. a new poll shows 25 percent of

renegotiated, next tuesday's reports could reveal up to a half million dollars in debt. campaign finance laws have made it difficult to raise money. congressman jesse jackson, jr. is being treated at the mayy clinic after taking leave last month. his whereabouts haven't been disclosed since last month. the hospital says he suffers from depression and undergoing an extensive evaluation. a rally in santa clara today will highlight inaction at hyatt hotels. workers say they have been working without a contract for nearly three years. a church's plan to build a memorial wall has some homeowners concerned about property values. peace lutheran church wants to put a wall containing urns in a memorial garden in danville.

two men jumped out of a moving suv yesterday in san fernando. one stayed on the ground and the other took off running. the guy who ran was taken down about 30 seconds later. in west hollywood, officers tried to pull the men over for driving recklessly. cleanup begins after a series soft storms in several states. this is in new jersey, trees a power lines knocked out leaving

hour. for the afternoon, mostly sunny skies and warmer, 76 expected, 83 in napa. we have 90 in antioch, down to south bay 80 degrees along the peninsula, 66 expected in the city. extended forecast, notice the subtle changes going on, 70s and 80s around the bay. stations designed to attract oriental fruit flies will be set up today. if the bait stations don't work, the state could quarantine fruit from the south bay, which could ruin local business. growers are understandably worried. >> we also sell wholesale to other places in the bay area. we may not be able to do that. we sell our fruit nationally as well. we have a mail order business.

>> oriental fruit flies attack more than 200 types of produce and it's believed they came to the south bay in undeclared produce from hawaii or southeast asia. a giant leatherback sea turtle was discovered on shore near break waters yesterday and was not alive. it took a crane to get it into a creature and transport it to a marine research facility? santa cruz. these are the largest species of turtles in the world and can live up to 50 years. and a dangerous item a south bay woman found in a bag of candy. plus a bike ride organized by teenagersed to think hope will help the victims of the colorado shooting hey, there's barely a line at space mountain.

street in the past month. the latest incident happened monday when a man opened fire outside a preschool. no one was injured. police believe gangs are blind the surge in gun violence. maria jansen disappeared wednesday afternoon. the 76-year-old was last seen by her husband near their home. this morning police will search parks in the area. she's 5'5 and weighs 105 pounds, last seen wearing yellow crocs shoes. a 15-year-old girl disappeared four months ago. a 21-year-old has been charged with her kidnapping and murder, even though her body has never been found. he's scheduled to enter a plea on tuesday. a mother says she found a knife inside a bag of candy.

there. >> san francisco's ingleside neighborhood has been hard hit by break-ins this year. an oakland man is fighting back after he says and online company tried to scam him. boyd davis says yellow pages public sent him a bill for almost $600 then started making hazarding phone calls. he says he never advertised his company so he contacted the better business bureau. >> it's a tune we have heard many times. >> the bbb says it's received almost 1,000 complaints about the company and gives it and f grade. this afternoon some bay area high schools will pitch in to try and help loved ones from the colorado shooting. they will hold a fund raising bike ride to start at 3:00 p.m. in a downtown park. they hope to raise at least

28. >> good morning. i'm mike mibach. a lot shake, we have festivals, giants, dodger, a marathon and we have rosemary orozco watching the forecast. good morning. >> it's going to be a nice weekend, our afternoon highs are finally bouncing back to the seasonal average. three degrees warmer in san francisco today than yesterday. 9 degrees warmer for areas like napa. i will break this down for you, talk about the warmup expected for your weekend and we'll take a peek at the current conditions outside your door. more on that coming up. an argument on a party bus may have led to a woman's death overnight. the chp says they fell out of the bus midnight on highway 17 in los gatos. allie rasmus reports. >> reporter: investigators are trying to figure out how this happened. we got an update on the victim of this fatal accident. she is a 25-year-old woman from santa cruz. she and another passenger on

the bus, party bus you see on the right-hand side of your screen, they got into a fight while the bus was driving about 45 to 50 miles an hour south on highway 17. this happened just before midnight last night. after that fight, both women ended up falling out of the bus. the 25-year-old woman was run over by the bus and died at the scene. the other female passenger involved in the fight suffered moderate injuries and is being treated at valley medical center. what investigators are still trying to answer is how those two women fell out of the bus. >> the bus driver is completely sober. we're just unsure how this door opened because there are two mechanisms for the door to open either manually with the bus driver pulling a lever or the emergency lever that's near the door. >> reporter: chp investigators say about 12 to 15 people were on board this party bus when this all happened. some of those passengers fled the scene after the bus stopped and the women fell out. many others on board were extremely drunk and chp

investigators say they couldn't get clear statements from them about what happened or what led up to the fight. now, the group was coming from a concert at the shoreline amphitheater heading back to santa cruz when this happened. and the party bus is now in a tow yard and chp investigators say they will be going back to that tow yard and be combing through that party bus again to answer the question of how the doors opened while this bus was moving causing two women to fall out. back to you. shots were fired in oakland overnight putting two people in the hospital around midnight at 90th and olive near an apartment building and liquor store. officers put crime scene tape up around the area and they found numerous shell casings on the ground. it is believed that two male victims are related. the victims are listed in stable condition this morning. a neighbor tells us she heard 7 gunshots at a separate shooting in oakland that happened around 11:00 last night at east 18th street and 35th avenue near foothill boulevard. the witness says the gunfire erupted after a long argument

between a group of people. the victim was shot in the stomach and went over to the nearby liquor store for help. we have new information about a man who is not going to surrender peacefully after shooting a young couple. pedro medina is accused of shooting to death the two young parents monday morning inside the apartment. the couple has three young children who weren't hurt. but they were also there at the time of the shooting . police believe he is going to mexico. officers say he made statements that he will shoot it out with police before allowing himself to get caught. now meanwhile investigators have found his niece on maxima at an undisclosed location in san jose but they add it doesn't mean that he is still in the city. a suspect in the colorado theater shooting will be formally charged monday. lawyers for defendant james holmes filed court documents revealing he was under psychiatric care at the time of

the shooting. authority seized a package sent to the psychiatrists. she said they are privileged and cannot be used in court. there is reportedly a notebook mapping out plans for a massacre. the defense accuses the prosecution of leaking details to the media. police fear it might lead to copycats. a man calling himself a joker is taken into custody. the alleged threat that got him arrested. >> the largers fire district in contra costa county wants to put a new tax proposal before voters. the contra costa fire production district is pushing a $75 a year parcel tax. without it the district says firefighters will be laid off and a third of its fire stations would shut down. but the idea isn't sitting well with the local taxpayers

a live look there at san francisco shrouded in fog at this hour. it is quite the ending to a high-speed chase through los angeles. two men jumped out of an suv while it was still moving yesterday in san fernando. one man stayed on the ground while the other ran off and police arrested that first guy right away. they took down the other guy who ran just about 30 seconds later. and the chase started in north hollywood, when officers tried to pull them over for driving recklessly. police say the suv had been stolen. a maryland man is in jail this morning accused of planning a killing rampage similar to the one this month in colorado. authorities say 28-year-old neil prescott threatened to shoot up his workplace. the mailroom supplier called pitney bows. police say he was about to get fired and had made threats to his boss over the phone. prescott was arrested at his apartment and police say he called himself a joker and wore a t-shirt that read, quote, guns don't kill people, i do. >> i have heard there was a bunch of kids in the parking

an altercation on a party bus turned deadly in los gatos. welcome back to "mornings on 2". i'm mike mibach. >> i'm claudine wong. it started out as a night on the town. but it turned deadly when two women fell out of that bus. chp investigators believe it started with an argument on the bus as it headed southbound on highway 17 in los gatos. the bus was full of a dozen or more drunken passengers. two women were ejected during some sort of scuffle and one of them died. the other was sent to the hospital. ktvu's allie rasmus will have a live report in 15 minutes. legislation cracking down on party buses will be heard by the state senate next month. it would require party buses to check passenger ids, peninsula assemblyman jerry hill introducing the bill following the death of brett studebaker the 19-year-old killed in a crash after drinking on a party bus in san francisco two years ago. the family of the latest homicide victim in oakland says he died on his doorstep as he was coming home from work.

the man was shot on 13th avenue near east 31st street. it happened around 7:30 yesterday evening. and police say an armed suspect was seen running from the house. they are currently checking security cameras in the neighborhood hoping to get a glimpse at the gunman. residents in san francisco's mission district are on edge after four-day time shootings on 24th street in the past month. the latest incident happened monday when a gunman opened fire outside a preschool at 24th and harrison streets. no one was injured. police believe gang disputes are behind the surge in gun violence. >> a sunnyvale mother found a knife inside a bag of candy. amy bought the jolly rancher crunch and chew candies on wednesday. the "san jose mercury news" said she had a couple of pieces and saw a 3" blade inside the packet so she emailed the company about the find. she also emailed police in santa clara where she bought the candy. she said she doesn't want money. she just wants hershey to be more careful in packaging.

in an hour, pacifica police will search for a missing 76- year-old woman. maria jansen disappeared wednesday afternoon. she was last seen by her husband near their park pacifica home. this morning, police will search saint pedro valley park. jansen is 5'5" and weighs 105 pounds and is wearing yellow croc shoes. a search for another woman continues today. this morning volunteers will be handing out flyers at the gilroy garlic festival. she disappeared more than four months ago. a person has been charged with her kidnap and murder even though her body hasn't been found. he is scheduled to enter a plea on tuesday. san francisco police are warning homeowners to be cautious after a string of burglaries during daylight hours. they say the way your house is decorated could be making you a target. police say burglars appear to be looking for any sign that a home is occupied by an asian- american family. so they are asking homeowners

good morning. live look from bay point. a warming trend begins today. let's recap some of our top stories for you this morning. the 2012 london olympics are officially under way. 60,000 people packed the park. today is the first full day of competition. a double shooting in oakland at 90th at midnight outside an apartment building at olive. the two victims are related and are in stable condition. a booze ride down highway 17 turned deadly when two women fell out of a moving party bus one of them died. it happened close to midnight in los gatos. allie rasmus is live outside chp headquarters in san jose. we understand alcohol played a big part. >> reporter: investigators say alcohol is a factor. a party bus from the concert at

the shoreline amphitheater. investigators say just about everyone on the bus was drinking but an up date on the victim of this fatal accident. she is a 25-year-old woman from santa cruz. she and another passenger got into some sort of altercation or fight while this party bus was heading south on highway 17 just before midnight. this is in los gatos. both fell out of the bus while it was going 45 to 50 miles an hour. the 25-year-old woman was run over by the party bus and died at the scene. the other female passenger involved in the fight suffered moderate injuries and is in the hospital this morning. the party was coming from the shoreline amphitheater taking about 12 to 15 people back to santa cruz. >> alcohol was a huge factor on this party bus. there was a lot of alcohol on board. there was about 12 to 15 passengers. the reason why we're unsure how many exactly, because right now some of them fled on foot. at the scene, everyone was extremely intoxicated so there

wasn't a lot of cooperation with law enforcement. >> reporter: investigators are trying to figure out how the bus doors opened while it was in motion. they say there's really only two ways that would happen, if the bus driver pushed a button to open the doors while it's moving or investigators say what's more likely is that the two women accidentally hit the emergency lever next to the door and that's how they fell out. but that party bus is now at a tow yard here in san jose and later on today, chp investigators will be going back to take another look at that bus to answer how the doors opened and who be at fault for this fatal accident. in san jose, allie rasmus, ctvu channel 2news. all is normal at at&t park following discovery of a suspicious divide found yesterday morning on channel street south of the ballpark. authorities say a worker found it underground and a dozen people had to be evacuated from nearby houseboats. others sheltered in place. a bomb squad determined the device didn't pose any threat. officials say the shells are

in an arizona plane crash. pat porter and his son and son's friend died thursday shortly after take-off in sedona. he competed in the 1984 and 1988 olympic games in the 10,000 meter runs. porter was the pilot. jesse jackson, jr. is being treated at the mayo clinic in minnesota. the nine-term democrat took a medical leave from congress last month and his whereabouts hadn't been disclosed. the hospital says he suffers from depression and gastrointestinal issues. he is having extensive in patient evaluation. chik-fil-a spokesman has passed away unexpectedly as the company finds itself at the center of the gay marriage debate. the fast food company says don perry died of a heart attack yesterday. perry helped shape the chik-fil- a response after they spoke out against same-sex marriage. ed lee said the fast food chain would not be welcome in san
