sunday, july 29th i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm mike mibach. i was actually pretty cool when i left the house this morning for a july day. let's get to rosemary. >> you are right. cloudy. slightly cool out there. outside our doors in some places we will continue with our warmup today. but ever so slightly we are talking 2-4 degrees above what we felt on saturday. i'll break it down for you. show you the broader view and what you can expect outside your door. right now 25,000 people are taking on the san francisco marathon. the elite runners started about 90 minutes ago. ktvu allie rasmus joins us live with what is happening now and how you can get around that race. >> reporter: 24,000 people have signed up for this case. you've got to keep in mind most don't come here alone. thousands of their friends and supporters have come to san francisco to watch the start of the san francisco marathon. that is the starting line behind us. there are several different

groups running in waves. so right now we are between groups we are waiting for another group to start here. we got here at 5:30 this morning to watch the elite runners start the race. >> three, two, one, you're off. >> reporter: the 26-mile course takes marathoners from the embarcadero all the way across the golden gate bridge and back again through golden gate back. now before they got started we talked some of the elite runners the people at the front line of the race about why the san francisco marathon is considered one of the most challenging in the nation. >> there will be a few hills. it will probably be pretty hard. >> it looks hilly compared to a lot of them. >> reporter: now we will show you a live picture coming up here of the golden gate bridge. you can see hundreds of marathoners have already made it to the halfway point of the

race. the golden gate bridge is the halfway point. after they get across the bridge they have to go to the marin side and run back. they will make their way through golden gate park. as you can imagine with 24,000 people and tens of thousands more coming here to watch, this will tie up traffic a little bit until 10:00 this morning. you can expect road closures. we have a map of the course to show you. mike and claudine will bring that to you in a few minutes. >> thanks. let's show you that map. that race will take runners thud fisherman's wharf through the marie that and across the bridge. the finish line is just under the bay bridge. you can expect delays. this is a qualifying event for the boston marathon. an investigation into what sparked a house fire in east oakland is under way this

morning. it started around 4:00 a.m. on 63rd avenue. the fire was in a vacant back house that homeless people may have been living in. a woman living in the front of the house said she heard someone yell fire early this morning. >> i looked out my bedroom window, seen the whole trees on fire. the front of the house on fire. ran downstairs and grabbed my kids and ran outside. >> the gas was turned on inside the home. no one was hurt in that fire. >> it will take some time before an oakland convenient store can reopen. an suv crashed into a liquor store. and left a gaping hole in the wall. there were in customers at the time just a store owner and worker. >> all i heard was a loud noise. a lot of dust. >> reporter: were you scared? >> i was shocked. >> the store owners hand was hit by flying debris.

the suv sustained damage on the front end of the soak. police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. they are calling it an accident with the driver losing control of the suv. bart station reopened after a shooting investigation. someone fired shots on the concourse level just before 10:00 last night. no one was injured but police closed the station for two hours searching for the gunman. an eight-year-old girl is one of two people recovering after being shot at bay point. deputies say the girl and 22- year-old man were inside the house on franklin avenue yesterday afternoon when someone started shooting at the home. the girl was shot in the leg and her family says she is doing okay. the man also has injuries that are not life threatening. the family says they don't know why they would be targeted. >> it's so much of shooting going on and they are involving the kids. it's like they have no heart or nothing they don't stop when they see the kids they keep shooting. when is it going to stop?

>> the contra costa county sheriffs office say the gunman drove away in a black honda sedan. a hotel was forced to evacuate after a fire broke out. the fire caused about 13,000 in damage. firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire but say it started near a mattress. with 99 days until the november 6th election president obama and mitt romney are planning their final pushes. the obama campaign says it has thousands of informal events scheduled across the nation including olympic watch parties and get togethers called barbecues for barack. some undecided voters are struggling over which first candidate to vote for. they are unsure about romney and what he can bring to the white house. just before 9:00 pacific time this morning romney will deliver a policy speech in

jerusalem. romney is pledging to back an israeli strike against iran. to prevent iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. romney has insisted on a zero tolerance policy for iran. >> incapable of becoming a nuclear nation. i look forward to chatting with you about further actions we can take. >> romney added that he's honored to visit israel on a jewish holiday. a potential running mate for romney is marco rubio. rubio went to his old elementary school to speak for romney. he says romney is for free enterprise. senator rubio had a bit of a scare flying out of las vegas.

his private plane was heading to des moines, iowa when it had to make an emergency landing in albuquerque. a possible electrical problem. rubio missed the romney campaign event in iowa but called in by phone. olympic organizers are investigating why some seats at olympic venues are empty. jeremy hunt says the empty seats were very disappointing. he believes they belong to sponsors. tickets have been extremely difficult to come by. police in london say they have arrested 16 people sense friday for illegally reselling tickets to events. here's a look at the current medal count. china leads with six. four of which are gold. italy at five medals and u.s. also has five medals including one gold. you can get the latest from the london olympics add ktvu.com -- at ktvu.com. driving to work today i did have the wipers on.

i know rosemary was talking about the drizzle out there in parts of the bay area. it definitely was where i was. >> we even have drizzle over oakland this morning. that's what we have to deal with this morning. a lot like yesterday. afternoon highs today a lot like yesterday. t visibility is down if a half mile. the numbers right now anywhere from 1-2-3 degrees below where we sat just 24 hours ago. 55 in oakland. 56 in napa. 53-degrees with cloudy conditions it's a great start to the morning for the runners in san francisco. 58 san jose. 59-degrees in mountain view. we will see a turn around as we move through the morning hours. with the low clouds hanging over it could take awhile like it did yesterday morning. concord waking up with mostly clear skies. fairfield you have to get far inland to see the blue sky. pacific satellite view not a lot of change.

good morning, to you. it's a great start to the bay for most us in the south bay, east bay, north bay. mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. a homeless man may have been planning a mass shooting. the chronicle reports officers had several run ins with the suspect robert johns. the first time they found a loaded shotgun and 22 caliber rifle in his car. then on july 21st a day after the aurora massacre they found weapons such as sawed off shotgun. johns is in custody on weapons charges. james holmes returns to court tomorrow. new cams will not be allowed at

tomorrow's hearing. he will be formerly charged. the judge is expected to rule in a defense request that prosecutors cannot use a package sent to his psychiatrist by him that includes a man outlining a large scale attack. grudge there is more heartbreak for a man critically injured in that attack. ashley moor is in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds to her neck and abdomen and she has suffered a miscarriage. funerals were held in several states. family and friends gathered in ohio to honor matt quinn who died while shielding his girlfriend from gunfire. private services were held in illinois and arizona. aspiring sports broadcaster jessica was remembered in texas. >> you put your dreams on hold, you stop that right now.

you chase those dreams. you don't know how long you have here. >> 11 of the injured are still in the hospital. out of tragedy comes generosity. a group of high schoolers held a fundraising bike ride. the teens set a goal of $1,000 and they raised $1,050. even they they didn't know the victims they felt compelled to help. >> i feel like it's human nature to help those in need. and so from one community to the other. >> the vacaville police officers association heard about the fundraiser and donated $100. proceeds will go to the aurora relief fund that helps families, memorial services and medical bills. at least eight walmarts in missouri had to be evacuated because of bomb threats. police did not find anything suspicious. this is not the first time the discount chain has received threats to to walmart stores.

today rescue crews will try to recover the bodies of two americans that went missing on a mountain climbing trip in peru. the bodies of 32-year-old ben horn and gill white were found yesterday. rescuers say the two were ascending the peak at the mountain and plunged to their deaths. horn was a student at uc san diego, wise was a business entrepreneur from colorado. the mother of wikileaks founder jillian assange will meet with authorities tomorrow. ray sang has been held up in the embassy in london. he has tried to avoid extradition to sweden where he is wanted for questioning over sexual assault. penn state's president says the school is adequately covered to handle the crush of lawsuits from the jerry sandusky child abuse scandal. they can tap into a general

liability fund. the school president hopes to settle as many lawsuits as possible even though its insurance company is seeking to limit claims. last month jury found sandusky of abusing ten boys in a 15 year period. several of penn state's 12 recruits for the 2013 signing class has reiterated their commitment. they have said they will stay with the lions. player have -- players have been given the option to move. state treasure bill lockyer may be looking to become the next chancellor of the california state university system. former state attorney general has been lobbying the universities board of trustees. lockyer may have an advantage because he has strong ties to legislatures that fund the cash trapped system.

cal state long beach president f. king alexander is said to be in contention for that job. university of california will be trying something new when students return to campus this fall. new online program to help prevent suicides. it will help start-up conversations with students in need. according to the university of california during the 2009-2010 school year there were 4700 attempts by uc students. 11 were successful. they are going to wellness programs like horse back riding for teens and yoga classes for city workers. in 2004 voters approved an initiative to make up for mental health cuts. california ranks sixth in the nation or 60th in the nation comes to mental health spending

cuts. since 2009 they have seen a 21% loss in funding. president barack obama's health care law will extend coverage to 300,000 in the next few years. there is one big problem. medical experts believe there won't be enough doctors. right now the nation is already experiencing a shortage. association of american medical colleges statements by the year 2015 the country will be short 63,000 doctors. that number is expected to double by the year 2025. the red cross is seeking blood donations. the organization says blood supply is at the lowest level in 15 years. officials blame the shortage on the severe heat and storms that have gripped many parts of the country. that combined with the usual summer slow down in donations has caused the blood supply to drop to emergency levels. at some point surgeons may have to cancel elective operations. there is a way you can help out today blood centers of the

pacific is holding a blood drive from noon to 4:00 p.m. today. it's located at the redwood shores library. 63rd annual fair is scheduled to get under way this week. this week they are trying something new. a breast feeding trailer will be set up for new moms. this comes as the board of supervisors passed a resolution recognizing this week as world breast feeding week. the fair kicks off on wednesday and runs through thursday. how officials hope to stop the problem right in its tracks. >> a fire at a recycling plant forces the evacuations of dozens of homes. >> a low blanket of fog. attempting to give you a live look at the city. the fog has swallowed up the city. we'll talk about when we expect to see that sunshine and the numbers expected for today coming up. must be nice, cheering on team usa from the shallow end.

fruits and vegetables could be quarantined. >> let's go over to rosemary. >> yes, good morning, to you. today a lot like yesterday. a tad warmer in some cases. with a bigger warmup coming by midweek. outside our doors this morning a near repeat of where we started yesterday. we have the on shore breeze anywhere from 15-20 miles an hour you can see through fairfield a light breeze over most of the bay area. we've got fairly calm conditions out there. for the afternoon today low 60s remaining along the coast with low clouds lingering along the coast as well. mid to upper 60s for the city. upper 60s and low 70s for the east bay as we get inland it will be warmer once again. low to mid to upper 80s in and around concord, livermore, and touching 90 degrees near antioch as well as brentwood. there is the extended forecast. ridge of high pressure that is slowly working its way our way. we will continue. as it does the inland areas will really begin to feel the heat by tuesday into wednesday

we jump into the mid 90s. we will hold on to that by thursday. meanwhile along the coast we will continue with a bit of an on shore breeze. that will keep us cool to mild. 67 degrees expected on wednesday. thursday 68 expected there. if you are looking for something to do with the kids today, why not go fly a kite? 35,000 people are expected to pack the berkeley kite festival this weekend. attendees can take kite building lessons, compete in competitions, and sit there and marvel at all of the if sites. the fast and furious festival also includes 5k race for runners. this is video of last years event. first up 17 races starts at 8:00 a.m.. pleasanton's main street will be closed to form a course almost about a mile long.

you are taking a live look at the 25,000 runners making their way through the streets of san francisco this morning for northern california largest marathon. good morning. welcome back to mornings on 2 i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm mike mibach. we are waiting right now for the first marathon runner to cross the finish line in san francisco with backdrops such as the gold ingate -- golden gate bridge and fisherman's wharf. allie rasmus is live for us in the city with more on the race and impacton traffic. >> reporter: we have actually moved. we started the morning at the starting line of the marathon. now we are at the finish line that is over here behind me at embarcadero. that is because as you mentioned in the next 20-30 minutes we are expecting the winner of this san francisco marathon to cross that finish line. again that should be right before 8:00 this morning.

the runners got a very early start but right now they are about at the halfway mark. let's show you a lye picture of the golden gate bridge. that is where you can see somehow -- see thousands of people running accrues the bridge. now after the marathoners cross the bridge into marin county, they have to turn around and go back. then they make their way back into the city for golden gate park and eventually back to embarcadero. the elite runners people that qualify to be at the front of the line they got their start at 5:30 this morning. >> three, two, one, you are off to start. >> reporter: the marathon is known to be one of the most challenging in the nation because as we all know there are a number of hills in this city. some of the steep inclines are part of the san francisco marathon course. but a lot of people say they came out here this is considered a destination mare ton. not only do they come out to take part in the race, they

they both fell out. nolan was killed when the vehicle ran over her. investigators believe all the passengers on board were intoxicated. the other woman who fell out remains in the hospital with moderate injuries. an investigation is under way into a deadly chain reaction crash in san bruno. police say the pickup truck slammed into three car it is stopped only knead lane and elle camino rial. two people inside one of the stopped cars died at the scene. several people in several vehicles including a child was hospitalized. the truck driver suffered nonlife threatening injuries. two people are in custody after a triple shooting in east oakland. the shooting was reported just after 3:15 this morning at 87th avenue and g street. it happened after an argument at a nearby clubhouse. the three victims are said to be in stable condition. fire investigators are looking for clues after four fires were set at a san jose park during a

24 hour period. people that live near kelly park believe the fires were set by homeless that were recently evicted from that park. transients are beginning to return and they want the police department to patrol the park regularly to discourage resettlement. >> it's just a matter of time before it jumps the fire road here and gets into us. we've had so many of them we've just been lucky. >> fires have been an ongoing problem at kelley park. several fires scorched dozens acres a few weeks ago. police have not said whether they plan to increase patrols around the park. firefighters are looking into the cause of a caramel fire. beagle i'lls spotted black -- bicyclists spotted black smoke. they were able to knock down the flames before they reached the interior of that church. they believe it started in a shed. a wild fire has grown to 150 acres preponderate the north fire broke out yesterday in an

area east of ukiah. firefighters say they are look into the possibility that fire was intentionally set. no homes are threatened at this time. the fire is 10% contained. a bone marrow drive is being held in oakland to find a donor for critically ill teenager. cynthia rodriguez has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. the more people tested the better her chances. the bone marrow drive begins at 9:00 this morning at st. elizabeth church. it's at 1,534th avenue. the drive ends at 3:00. a fundraiser will be held in san francisco to help the search efforts for sierra lamar. money will fund weekly searches for the 15-year-old. volunteers and sierra's family

has beencombing various areas. >> we haven't found anything substantial since the beginning. but still i think i'm going to stay -- i'm staying positive. >> today's fundraiser is at the lucky strike bowling alley on king street in san francisco. that is near at & t park. it begins at 6:00 tonight. >> 21-year-old torres has been charged in the kidnapping and murder of sierra lamar. he is due in court on tuesday to enter a plea. there is growing concern about a woman missing in pacifica. yesterday more than 100 people searched san pedro valley park for maria janson. maria is 5'5" she weighs 105 pounds and may have been wearing yellow crock style shoes. berkeley police say a juvenile pulled a gun on them.

officersofficers -- the suspect drew his weapon but then dropped it. they later caught him a block away. officers also detained two other juveniles and an adult in connection to the robbery. people demonstrating against the anaheim police department are taking their message to disney land. protestors held signs demanding an end to the violence and calling for the resignation of anaheim police chief. they are angry over recent police shootings. five people have been killed by officers this year. the city is asking the fbi to investigate the circumstances surrounding those shootings. while some say the economy seems to be recovering employees of colorado stays have -- of california cities have taken a heart hit. they have entered their fifth year of budget cuts and layoffs. the 20 largest cities have reduced their full-time work force by 10,000 jobs.

the hardest hit city was chiu la vista and saw a 30% decrease between 2007 and last year. san jose experienced a 17% cut. oakland a 13% decrease. and san francisco saw a 3% cut. many of the cuts effected police and parks departments. sacramento international airport may follow sfo and switch from tsa agents to security guards. they can provide the same level of security but cost much less. in april sacramento airport exercised an opt out clause in the federal law that created the tsa. it can still take a year to review a private security firm. >> that company that is chosen will then be trained by the tsa. they will use the same tsa procedures, policies, and equipment. >> a tsa employee union opposes

the trough off the west coast. we have a ridge of high pressure to the east. it is slowly building our way. that's what caused a bit of the warmup. numbers anywhere from 2-4- degrees what we felt yesterday. some ever us will be very similar temperature wise. slightly warmer for today. in a nutshell we have the fog and clouds out there with us once again this morning. in most cases areas around concord, antioch, and fairfield. the afternoon sea breeze will be us. anywhere from 10-20 miles an hour. our highs 60s at the the coast. 70s around the bay. and just nearing 90 degrees for some of our warmer spots. your forecast here once we ditch the clouds they should burn around by late morning. notice hugging the coast here this will continue for most of the afternoon. partly cloudy perhaps even mostly cloudy expected for your sunday. right along the coastline. temperatures this morning wide spread 50s out there. if you do have the clear skies

the inland east bay you are nearing 60 degrees down into the south bay and southern peninsula. if you are traveling today sfo reporting at least arriving flights delayed by half hour to 45 minutes because of the low clouds. into the afternoon we will see a nice warmup once again but notice that we are only looking at oranges for some of our warmer spots that means most of us only warming into about the 80s around the bay. 70s once again 60s at the coast. if you are maybe going on to cheer the marathon runners for today, here's the forecast for san francisco or maybe you just head into the city to play. 58 degrees at 10:00. 66 at the warmest part of the day. 84 degrees expected for santa rosa today. 69 in berkeley. 66 in the city. upper 60s and low 70s around oakland and san leandro. mid 80s in livermore and concord.

the extended forecast we will continue the warming trend. in fact, it will turn hot for the inlands areas by tuesday into wednesday mid 90s into the forecast. thursday warm to hot as well. along the coastline the cool temps will continue. severe summer drought in the midwest could cause prices to skyrocket at the grocery store. officials say the most extensive drought since 1956 is devastating crops in missouri, illinois, and iowa. growers who's drop crops that survived the dry conditions are facing additional costs. they are being forced to pay to haul their crops out by trucks because river levels have dropped to such low levels. >> all the crops are going to rot in the field buzz they didn't have anywhere to put it. >> the drought is expected to push up food prices around the world. cause of a fire at a plant

closed that station for two hours so they could search for the gunman. eight-year-old girl is one of two people recovering after being shot in bay point. deputies say the girl and 22- year-old man were inside a home on franklin avenue yesterday afternoon. when someone started shooting at the house. the girl was shot in the leg and her family says she is doing okay. the man also has injuries that are not life threatening. the family says they don't know why they would be targeted. >> there is so much shooting going on and they are involving the kids. it's like they have no heart or nothing to where they don't stop when they do see the kids. they keep shooting. when is it going to stop? >> the contra costa county sheriffs office say the gunmen drove away in a black honda sedan. guests were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out at the americas best value inn on santa rosa avenue. the fire caused about $13,000 in dang. they are investigating the cause of the fire but say it started near a mattress.

for about three years. he's a medical student. he crossed e finish line just before 8:00. the finish line is behind us. you can see it's getting a little more crowded here. that is because most of the people most of the marathoners are finishing up the race. they have a lot of their supporters off on the side here watching them complete cross the finish line. right in front of us there are people doing a 5k run. those 25,000 people registered for this event. that includes marathoners, people taking part in the 5k the half marathon and the kids run. as you mentioned just before 8:00 this morning we talked to the winner of the mens marathon. [ cheering and applause ] 26-year-old nathan kraw is a medical student. he finished the marathon in two hours and 26 minutes. for the first time ever the winner gets a prize.

several fires scorched dozen acres a few weeks ago. police have not said whether they plan to increase patrols around the park. firefighters are looking into the cause of a fire at our lady of caramel church. bicyclists spotted black smoke coming from the church just around 4:00 yesterday amp. firefighters were able to knock down the flames before they reached the interior of the church. they believe that fire start the inside a shed. a wild fire burning near cal mountain has grown to 150 acres. the north fire broke out yesterday in an area east of ukiah after people in the area reported hearing some sort of explosion. firefighters say they are looking into the possibility the fire was intentionally set. no homes are threatened at this time and that fire is currently 10% contained. a fundraiser will be held in san francisco tonight to help the search efforts for sierra lamar. money raise willed help fund

the finish line, they came over just before 8:30. the 30-year-old helms is from san francisco. she says this is the third time running the san francisco marathons as she credits the fact that she's able to train here year round with helping her land first place. she finished in two hours and 44 minutes and five seconds. >> i live here so i know these hills. hi a strategy coming -- i had a strategy coming in, knowing how well i have been running on the hills to take it out strongly. >> reporter: now, the men's winner is nathan. he is 26 years old. he's a medical student from salt lake city, training for three years for this. he says that the san francisco marathon, of course, was especially tough. >> i don't know, you know, it is just like a big hill. i mean, throughout the whole thing. i mean i have run a lot of big

it started around 4:00 a.m. now, firefighters say that the fire was in a vacant back house that the homeless people may have been living there. a woman living in the front of the house said she heard someone yelling fire early this morning. >> i looked out my bedroom window, seeing all the trees on fire, the front of the house here on fire. and i ran downstairs, grabbed my keys and ran outside. >> firefighters say that the gas was turned on inside the home. no one was hurt. they reopened after shutting down because of the shooting investigation. officers say that someone fired shots on to the concourse level just before 10:00 last night. no one injured, but they closed down that station for two hours as they searched for the gunman. an 8-year-old girl is one of two people recovering this morning after being shot at bay point. now, they say that the girl and the 22-year-old man were inside the home on franklin avenue yesterday afternoon when someone started to shoot the house. the girl was shot in the leg as she will be doing okay. they also have injuries that

16 square miles of morgan hill are now being treated to keep an oriental fruit fly from devastating crops. they set up a pesticide that contains a chemical to attract the male fruit flies. they will die off because the female flies will have no one to mate with. >> we have to treat in order to save our crops. >> as long as we get an early start on it, we're very likely to get control quickly. >> if officials can cannot contain the fruit fly infestation, then all fruits and vegetables could be quarantined. the 63rd annual festival is -- festival is expected to begin something new. this comes as the county board

several streets in the city, they are still closed right now and some lanes on the golden gate bridge are also closed. we are live at the finish line with more on this year's winners coming up at 9:45 in a live report. we're also following breaking news. a statewide amber alert has been issued for the 16-year-old little girl. i want to show you a picture of the girl. the sheriff's department said that she was taken by a father and son who are both suspects in a double homicide. the suspect were last seen in a blue chevy tahoe with the california license plate number 6w54124. they believe that they could be headed to mexico. an investigation is underway into a deadly chain reaction crash. a pickup truck slammed into three cars and stopped around noon yesterday. two people from one of those stopped cars died at the scene. several other people including a child had to be hospitalized.

the truck driver suffered non- life-threatening injuries. the woman who died after falling out of a party bus late friday night has been identified as 25-year-old natasha noland. and the door opened and they both fell off. and they remained in the hospital with moderate injuries. they are looking for clues after four fires were said at the san jose park during the 24- hour period that people who live here believe that the fires were set up by the homeless people evicted from the park. they said that they are beginning to return and that they would like the police department to control the park regularly and to discourage resettlements. >> it is just a matter of time before they jump the fire road here and gets into us. we have had so many of them as we have been lucky. >> the fires have been in ongoing problems here at kelly park and several fires scorched

a dozen acres just a few weeks ago. police have not said whether or not they plan to increase patrols around that park. a wildfire burning here in the county have grown to about 250 acres. they broke out yesterday in an area east. after people in the area, they reported hearing some sort of explosion. firefighters say they are looking at the possibility of the fire that it was intentionally set. no homes were threatened at this time. and that fire is 10% contained. colorado shooting suspect james holmes came up here at the news camera. and that will be scheduled for 8:30 a.m. pacific time where they will be normally charged. a judge is also expected to rule on the defense request. and the psychiatrist which reportedly includes a plan outlining a large scale attack. funerals were held in several states for some of the 12 people killed in the

colorado shooting theater. they gathered in ohio who died while they were visiting their girlfriend from gunfire. private services were held in illinois and arizona. and her navy petty officer. now, jessica ghawi was a member in texas. >> she put her dreams on hold. stop it right now and you chase those dreams. you don't know how long you have here. >> 11 of the injured are still in the hospital. five are in critical condition. there's more heartbreak for a woman critically injured in a shooting. 25-year-old ashley moser is still in the hospital. and now she has suffered a miscarriage that will be blaming on the trauma. the 6-year-old daughter, veronica was the youngest person to die in that theater massacre. now, a tragedy comes generosity. a group of high schoolers held a fundraising bike ride yesterday for the families of the victims in the colorado shooting. the teenager set up a goal of

$1,000 as they raised about $1,050. even though they did not know that the victims they felt compelled to help. i feel like as humans, they needed to help those in need and to help us. and in one community or the other. >> and the police officer association, they heard about the fundraiser and they also donated $100. proceeds will go to the awe row a release fund, helping them with memorial services and medical bills. >> a fundraiser will be held tonight to help the search efforts. it is at 6:00 tonight at the lucky strike bowling alley across from at&t park. they will help fund weekly services for the missing 15- year-old. a fundraising car wash was held yesterday at morgan hill. volunteers, they have been coming up through various areas. and any sign of them since they disappeared back in march. we have not found anything substantial. and you know, since the beginning.

and still, i think that i'm going to stay positive. >> and despite the fact that the body has not been found, the 21-year-old garcia torres has been charged with the kidnapping and murder. they are due to enter a plea on court on tuesday. growing concerns about a woman missing here. yesterday, more than 100 people searched the valley park for the 76-year-old. her husband reported her missing on wednesday, after last seeing her in the backyard of their home. and maria jansen weighs about 105 pounds, wearing yellow croc- style shoes. a juvenile pulled a gun on them. officers responded to the report of an armed robbery yesterday afternoon near the intersection of hill gas and ashby avenues. the suspects allegedly grew their weapons, then dropped it. police told the tribune that they later caught him about a block away. officers also detained two other juveniles and an adult in connection to the robbery. people demonstrating against the anaheim police department are taking their

message to disney land. protesters held signs, demanding an end to the violence and calling for the resignation of anaheim's police chief. the group is angry over a recent series of police shootings. five people have been killed by officers this year. and the shooting sparked clashes between demonstrators and police this past week and the city is asking that now the fbi to investigate the circumstances surrounding those shootings. yes, at the santa rosa hotel, we're forced to evacuate after a fire broke out. it happened just before 11:30 yesterday at america's best value inn. the fire ended up causing $13,000 in daniels. firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, but it started near a mattress. firefighters are also looking into the cause of a fire at our lady of carmel church in ashby, spotting black smoke just after 4:00 yesterday afternoon. firefighters managed to knock down the flames before reaching the interior of the church. a bone marrow drive is being held in oakland today to try to find a donor for a very

old, his marathon time was two hours, 46 minutes. he's a medical student from the salt lake city area. he's been training for this for three years and says that the san francisco marathon course was tough. >> that's okay. it was like a constant hill. throughout the whole thing, hills. i have ran a lot of big marathons and they throw hills, you know, 16 miles, you get a hill here and it never stops. [ cheering ] >> reporter: now about 20 minutes behind him was 30-year- old devin crosby helm, the first woman to cross the finish line. she is from san francisco. this is her third year running the race, crediting the fact that she was able to train here year round with helping her win. >> i live here, so you know, like i know these hills. i had a strategy coming in, knowing what everyone else's pr's were and how well i have been running on the hill to take it out strongly. >> reporter: now, despite the fact that the course has a lot

they were not saying how they were killed or what the positive motive was. amber was not hurt. protesting arizona's legal immigration law. they upheld their most controversial precision, requiring police to check the immigration status of anyone that they suspect is in the country illegally. >> it happened to me and i don't want that to happen. i'm more involved and i'm here with my committee. >> the opponents of the law say they encourage racial profiling. people living in the small community say they are concerned about the noise from the nearby shooting range. the range is owned by the people who live at the nearby area. they say that this has been more noise recently. sometimes as early as 7:00 in the morning. it will be held at the sportsman club. home prices are starting to

go back up again. but california, they still dominate the foreclosure crisis. california cities made up of 7 of the top 10 areas with the highest rate of new foreclosures for the first six months of the year. stockton had a higher foreclosure rate than any other metro area in the u.s. and about one out of every 38 homes got a foreclosure notice between january and june and they also made up that list. although the city saw increases, san francisco saw a 10% drop in foreclosure filings since january. well, something that the economy seems to be recovering. employees of california's cities have taken a hard hit. they entered their fifth year of the budget cuts and layoffs. since the recession, the state's 20th largest cities have the work force by about 10,000 jobs. the hardest hit city was chula vista. decreasing in their work force between 2007 and last year. and here is a closer look for you at the bay area. san jose experienced the 17% cut due to their work force.

oakland, a 13-percent decrease. they saw a 3% cut. and many of the cuts affected police and parks department. sacramento international airport may follow sfo and switch from tsa agents to private security guards. supporters believe private screeners could provide the same level of security, but cost much less. in april, sacramento airport exercised an opt out clause in the federal law that created tsa. it could still take a year to review and approve that private security firm. >> there that company chosen will then be trained by the tsa. they will use the same tsa procedures. the same policies and equipment. >> tsa employee union opposes privatization, saying that it chips away at the national system put in place after 9/11. sfo, kansas city, and 14 other smaller airports currently use non-governmental employees. dave camp has been diagnosed with cancer.
